How can I detach Google Maps from Play Store - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My lamentations of the new Google Maps are well documented. And although upon reinstalling the Kit Kat stock update I did try to give it another go, I just can't deal with it. So using Titanium Backup I uninstalled the new maps and reinstalled version 6.14.4 The issue is its still in the Playstore. Even though I used Titanium Backup to detach it from the market and then cleared cache from the Play Store it still comes back. I thought maybe it had something to do with having new maps installed on my tablet so uninstalled it but still it won't go away. So anyone have any thoughts on how to get Maps to stop showing as needing updated in the Play Store?

This one should be relatively easy. Uninstall it!
Have you tried just freezing it?

?.... Maybe I didn't make my post clear enough. I want to keep Google Maps. Version 6.14.4 I just don't want the dang Playstore always trying to tell me it needs an update. Although I've used TB to detach from market and cleared market cache it still seems to pick up on it and ask me to update it. So I'm wondering is there another more effective way other than TB to detach an app from the Playstore? I can't seem to find one...

Well there is away. You will need xposed installer. After you install, download a module named "Xprivacy". Go to xprivacy, find Google playstore. Make sure to check "system installed app". This way Google play store won't be able to find which apps you have installed.

Thank you! A viable solution. I will try this. I already have Xposed. Thanks again. I will report back for future reference...
Edit: won't this stop Google Play from being able to determine other apps that I actually want to update.?

Yes you are correct. It will stop Google play from being able to determine other apps update. So far this is the only solution I know.

I know that, but when I go to update my application is there no way of the android market knowing that I've downloaded application from another source. They both basically have the same applications
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Why would one update an app bought from the other? If you are buying from both you must have both market apps on your device, right? So together all your apps are being updated.
Don't really see the issue here.

Try to install the app from Amazon and then use Titanium Backup's "Market Doctor", it might work
Nah that won't work for paid apps. It'll show as installed in the Market, but if you try and update via the Market you'll be prompted to pay.

Exactly. I tried this with setcpu apk installed. But was prompted to pay before I could get the update.

did you then have a problem whereby market was always prompting for an update for an app you had bought via amazon? if so, how do you stop market banging on about an app you cant update?
Use Titanium Backup to break the market link.

Android Market - Can't Buy Software - Says I already bought it

I was trying to download Facedroid - Purchase it - and it said I already purchased it and won't install. I went to applications and uninstalled the updates for the market but no go. I did read through some of the posts on similar topics here but didn't seem applicable. Any ideas??

Which ROM are you on? maybe you can clear caches and give it another shot ......
Just a thought... are you using go launcher? They recently fixed a problem where icons were not showing up for installed apps. My thinking here is its already installed but you just can't see it.
If this its the case, install the update for go launcher. goto settings and manage apps and uninstall the program you're wanting. then go back to the market and get it again and it wont hide from you anymore.
I'm probably a mile off base, so onto the next suggestion if I am.
If you can read this it was sent using my GT-P7510.
I'm running stock OS. No changes. I am running ADW though. I went and cleared cache and removed updates for the Market. Odd....it says I purchased it even on the internet linked site so that leads me to believe it's my profile with Google.
Funny enough...I don't mind trying apps, but if I want it, I'll buy it. I wanted this app and was trying to pay for it and Puff the Magic Dragon showed up!! No app for you, come back...one year!
Try closing ADW and see if it shows up in the stock app drawer.
Did you remove your credit/debit card off your google wallet/checkout account? I did that once and had the same problem. Once i added and verified my mastercard, i was able to download again.
same problem here, (even) the (web) market thinks I've already bought the app and I can't buy it anymore
Im havimg the same problem. I cant purchase swiftkey, says on the apps page i purchased it, but when i click install it says i didnt purchase the app.

I'm actually having the same issue, but it's with downloading ADWLauncher EX itself. The market website thinks I've purchased it, but I haven't. I sideloaded ADW first, to see how well it works. Deleted it, tried to purchase it, not working. Cleared cache, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, everything. It has to be an issue with the market itself. So, yeah. Just a small confirmation.

I can't get Google Wallet to set up!

I am having issues getting Google Wallet set up on my Nexus 10. I just received it today, and it sits on the "Setting up Wallet, this may take up to 5 minutes" screen for what seems like forever, then I get a message "Device Not Ready-Wallet is unable to proceed until this device is fully initialized. Make sure the phone has network access and try rebooting it if the problem persists", well the network is 100% A OK, and the device is fully initialized, so I'm not sure what the issue is, and I have rebooted it a few times and even cleared data and cache on the Wallet program, to no avail. Is anybody else having this issue?
If your under a custom rom, that could be the reason why its not working. I have Google wallet on my rooted stock SG3 and it says unsupported device but it still works.

It's the stock ROM, just rooted, unlocked bootloader and recovery.
It still won't set up as of this morning, it's not a hardware problem because the NFC works just fine, I guess I'll have to talk to Google.
Well, I fixed it! I went into Titanium and uninstalled it, installed the version in the Play Store, and then opened it up and WHAM, it worked! Maybe the one on the device was corrupt, or uninstalling then re installing cleared out some errors, what do you guys think?
Edit-I don't know that I'll use it on my Nexus 10, as I have it installed and working on my SGS3 (AT&T), but it's nice to have the option, and it was bugging me not being able to get it working lol
Glad you figured it out! Sometimes its as simple as uninstalling then reinstalling go figure.

Coolness factor
In any case, my wallet seems to be stuck also on "Setting up Wallet". I've tried CM10.1, some other custom ROM, and stock, and tried a few different wallet apps on CM10.1, to no avail so far.
Edit: My NFC still appears to work; I can wave my credit card near the NFC sensor on the N10, and it'll make a sound.

Tried your suggestion and it let me sign in and setup a PIN. However, it errors out when trying to add cards. It also says that I'm using an unsupported device (Nexus 4).

I'm having the same issue. I've tried everything short of editing the build prop as some have done in the past with other devices (I have a nexus 4), and probably would even do that if some other person with an N4 did it and had success. Tried multiple ROMs and multiple versions of Wallet with no luck. I either get the "Setting up wait 5 minutes, device not initalized" issue or the "request failed" at the add card error. Put in for a replacement yesterday, so hopefully the new one doesn't have the issue. If so, then we know that there are just some lemon N4's out there.
first, I got this wallet apk from the dev paulobrien here at xda. I don't have the link to his site at the moment. now, onto the fun stuff. to begin with, uninstall any previous wallet app. next, using root explorer drop this apk into the /system/app directory and change the permissions to match the other apps. now, reboot and enjoy the odd looks of cashiers when you pay with your awesome tablet!
I found the link for anyone who is wary.

[Q] Google Hangouts / talk

Howdy,
I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get the Hangouts app to work on their N4. I'm running the latest nightly of CM 10.1. I went to install Hangouts from the Play store and it says that I have it installed. However my app is still called Talk and has the Talk interface. Has anyone had luck getting this updated?
Nevermind heh. I just used CM File Manager to move the talk.apk from /system/app to a backup location. Then I went to the Play store and tried again. This time it installed the new version.
I had the same issue. My solution was to go onto the Web store and install it from there to my phone. Seemed to do the trick.

Interesting, I tried that first but it didnt work for me.
I wish I could edit my title so it is more descriptive...
Just uninstall the original Talk app first (using Titanium or anything that's capable of remiving system app).
Seriously i rated this with 1 STAR.
It must say: "Replaces Talk AND REMOVE THE F$$$ING VOICE-CALL FEATURE FROM YOU Talk".
Its best to remove Talk and then install Hangouts.
Does anyone know how to get this working with the N4 if it's not rooted?

Nope - I have two stock, unmodified, new Nexus 4's... one upgraded no problem with the new Google Hangouts that properly replaced Google Talk... and the other, upgrades with Google Hangout but in the app list and everywhere else, still shows Google Talk but no Google Hangout. Under all apps, Google Talk is still shown. If you open it from there, the old Talk launches. If you search Google Play for Google Hangouts, it shows 'Installed' and if you open Google Hangouts from there, it launches the old Google Talk.
Very strange.... gonna try clearing some app data and what not to see if it resolves.

Please let us know if you figure anything out. I'm on stock as well and I'm starting to regret it because of updates like this. I bought this phone for updates but so far, it seems to be behind on that(4.2 OTA took a week). I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling google+ and that didn't work. I thought it might be tied to g+ since Google is trying to make it more involved with Android. I might root this weekend if I don't get it soon.

Google have addressed this as follows:
Google said:
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. I was having the same issue as others. It shows as installed on the phone (v 1.0.0.1) and via Play Store in a browser.
I was able to use a browser and install it to my wife's Nexus S though.
Here is the APK for v 1.0.0.678017 which I was able to side load and works fine on my N4.
Due to APK file size, I had to upload it in a ZIP archive.

I made the same mistake. I removed the update "3.6.1.44747389", but now the market pushes "3.6.0.44338848" instead. Not sure what the difference is, but I side loaded a backup of the newer version.

Play store doesnt check for app updates

Hi, I just switched to Android from Windows Mobile. I'm using a nexus 6p. I'm having some issues with the play store where it doesn't check for app updates. I could see update if I search for the app through play store. No update being shown under my apps and games in playstore. I already update to the latest play store through apk. If you go into Play Store then Settings, look if you have "Do not auto update apps" checked.
