I would go for the I9505 personaly. Much more development and the Qualcomm 600 seems to have much less issues than the Exynos octa-core atm. Btw there are allready threads about I9500 vs. I9505

I would go with the i9505 if you LTE and better support by XDA developers (AOSP and AOKP based ROMS).
If you will basically use only Sammy based ROMs (like me) and don't care about LTE than go for the i9500.

If you don't want extremly fast internet (LTE) depending on location or AOSP/CM roms.. then get the I9500.. I think it may be a little cheaper as well last time I checked

?? What issues would those be? I only know about the headphone out defect on the i9505 which would be a deal killer for me. I've the i9500.

I9505 :good:
Batter Battery Life
LTE

Some gs4 all versions can have smearing issue or other defects. Mine come without any of these. 9505 is more than enough for any customer with custom kernels oc/uv tweaks is superior to other flagships

Cheers guys will be going for the i9505 then! Was swaying that way before hand...
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda premium

For me its easy choice: i9505 .
SGS4 Google edition will have Snapdragon 600 CPU, which means it will have same internals as i9505, so i9505 will get fully working stock Android and updates at similar time as Nexus devices.

i9500

No, you are wrong. Its the Snapdragon I9505 with the headphone issue.
And before someone replies with "I dont have the problem", read the threads. It affects lower impedance headphone only but it is a major issue for those with headphones like this.

I9500
- New chip technology
- 10% faster processor
- 3% better camera sensor
- better audio processing due to wolf DAC (difference is not noticable though in direct comparison)
I9505
- LTE Band
- Stable and well documented processor for development
- Rapid charge technology
- 2-3% cheaper (in my area)

This.
Charging time of i9500 from 5-100% is roughly 2 hours by the way.
I would say, they are both good. Its still the same galaxy s4 that everyone else holding a different device is so envious about.

I love these threads I have the sprint s4 and the i9500 both are great but arent faryaab and codeworkx working on a cm project for the i9500 faryaab also said he will bring siper nexus . Dev support hmm I think its even minus cm but im not a fan of constant issues until 7months down the line . Please show a thread to which cm,aokp etc didnt have issues the first several months or weeks . Besides that the 505 is and always will be samsungs second choice so to say being many intenals being newer in the 500 also samsung parts . Both are great its mostly opinion base but to me I wanted both first choice was the i9500 . Back to the dev support have anyone whos said the 505 has more look into who has the i9500 . Yes chainfire has the 505 but hes not gonna be kickin out roms . Also many devs are going the both route . So choose what suites you best .

LTE on the GT-i9500?

I am purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S-IV GT-i9500 and I was hoping that I could somehow get it to work with LTE on AT&T. Is this possible. Like by flashing a new modem or something?
Thanks in advance.

That's a shame, because you won't be getting 8-cores. You'll be getting two sets of 4 - there's a difference.

Actually: CPU Quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300 (I9505) VS. Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 (I9500).
In tests it seems that I9505 was only some very small steps behind the 8 core... so I would think carefully. If you plan to change again the phone in next year or so, then yes, go for the 8 core. Otherwise, bear in mind that LTE will become more and more used... and cheaper

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy LTE speeds. But I almost always on WiFi. Probably 90-95 percent of the time I'm using my phone is on WiFi. So LTE is not a big deal to me. And like you said, if I plan on getting a new phone in a year then get the octacore. I get a new phone at least once a year sometimes more.

Not a chance. There really isn't any reason that Samsung would do that. They have already manufactured and moved millions (tens of?) of the lte version. Why on earth would they create another? Octa is just going to appear in their future tablets

To add to your statement. I just read several articles that discussed how the snapdragon processor is designed for the LTE bands used by USA carriers. The Exynos processor requires a lot of work by Samsung to make it work on lte in the us. The note 3 may be the first samsung phone to have the octacore and LTE in the us. But I don't want a 6 inch screen in my front pocket. That would be almost like putting an ipad mini of your pocket. Almost.

One thing I am seeing a lot of is that the GT-i9500 has an overheating problem. Does the GT-i9505 have the same problem or not? I also see a lot more development on the GT-i9505 but I really only want to root to de-bloat and I don't really need custom Ron for that.

The i9505 will only get hot under intensive use such as gaming or the likes. I had no choice in choosing an i9500 or i9505, but I don't mind. The octacore is all nice when the technology works as Samsung advertised it, but it doesn't, and the i9505 doesn't lag at all for me. Plenty of development and debloated ROM's to keep you happy.

Again, that's what was said about the S3. That quad core + lte was too hard but then the S3 4g i9305 was released. Remember from release they had a quad core + lte in Korea so why people were saying it was too hard beats me. And now again the Korean model is both Octa and lte.
My money is on an Octa + lte around September.

I am using a I9505. What I can say is that, while it get warm/hot under certain circumstances (mostly games + charging in parallel), it is the 'coldest' phone I had until now. Compared, even the S3 is getting much hotter. So far, I did not find the temperature as a disturbing point (as with several other phones).

[Q] Google's ROM? [UPDATE: June 30th]

Hey guys
So Google will be releasing their own version of the Galaxy S4 ("Clean" Version) pretty soon.
Will we be getting the chance to install this ROM over our current phones? (i9505 + i9500)
Or is it just for people who bought this specific phone?
Thank you,

With regards to aosp roms, the i9500 is doomed, my friend. Doomed. Anyone compiling aosp for i9500 is wasting their time because exynos 5410 is even worse than 44xx.
So the joke's on you for not buying the qcomm version.

I live in Europe as well but luckily they chose to market the LTE variant here. You could have imported an i9505, though.
Look, what they release on arndale has nothing to do with what they have in their phones. If I'm wrong on that, I'd request an insight from @Entropy512 because he knows a lot about this stuff.

Remember, this is a stock Android UI - so far, nothing more (such as AOSP support) has been announced, and I suspect it's unlikely. So it actually will be of zero benefit for AOSP bringups like CM.
As far as porting it just like porting a TW firmware between Qcom devices? Maybe, I don't know how successful people have been in doing such a thing. (e.g. if they've got it as automated as I did with Hellraiser on the I777).
Since I9500 is Exynos, the Google Edition is of zero use for that device.
As I said long ago when the Google Edition was first announced:
If it's not AOSP supported, it basically means nothing
If it's AOSP supported and qcom, it's nice but not a huge benefit since CAF is already quite good
If it's AOSP supported and Exynos, that's a game changer and would be what would cause me to consider Samsung again. But we know for certain it's not Exynos, and it's highly unlikely it'll be AOSP supported - Samsung's underlying base software is too Samsunged (hacked up) in the non-GE GS4s for them to have AOSP support any time soon. The Google Edition is just covering up their crappy underlying software with a less sucky UI as far as I can tell. We'll know for sure when the device is released.

They won't be able to include Samsung drivers into the device. If you use a non stock rom now watch on won't work because it doesn't know where to find the infrared.
I hope that Google does it right and gets the sensors to work but at this point it doesn't seem like they will. Maybe Samsung will release the drivers someday

Unlike the i9505,no stable AOSP roms for the i9500 ..touch wiz is just pain..
I've got the I9505 and the Nexus 4. In terms of development the Nexus device will always be a step ahead due to being a stock android phone. Crazy amount of roms and kernels. I find the N4 faster and smoother in day to day operation as it optimises the software perfectly. The Galaxy bare in mind has better camera, expandable storage, bigger screen, 1080p not that big a difference, removable battery.
Down to you I'm happy with both devices. But use my Galaxy as a daily driver due to better camera and such.

Sweet, i hear the i9505 is better than the i9500 in terms of the battery and no heating issues, not to mention how many custom roms and kernels available.I would have bought the i9505 if i had any idea about which version is better so now im left the i9500 , im not gonna buy a new s4 since im not planning on spending that much of money but think im going to buy me a nexus 4 and just use the 2 phones for different purposes, just a quick question, black or white nexus?
Black one for sure. It's a sexy device. It just works so well. The speed on custom roms like Rasbean is great. Plus you get the latest software updates to android. The roms are better than the GE of the roms as Google upload a version for developers to tweak so you get many more custom roms based on their sources or CM etc. If it had a better camera and that it'd be my main device Nexus 5 should be great.

Yea , its what i heard too, but oh well motorola is fine also.
I have both. I9505 and nexus 4. Believe me, the nexus 4 is much more enjoyable to use, tiny little things in nexus 4 like navbar, curved screen edge makes using quickcontrols in aosp browser really much better where as in s4 it's harder to trigger thr quickcontrols since the screen is not level with the bezel.
The feel of holding the nexus 4 is much better than s4 with its plastic back, felt sticky and lots of sweat on s4.
And the most awesome in nexus 4 is the vibration feel when you type, it's softer and deep, i really cant explain it and you have to feel it yourself.
Other than three i mention above, galaxy s4 wins hands down.
