Unlike the i9505,no stable AOSP roms for the i9500 ..touch wiz is just pain..
I've got the I9505 and the Nexus 4. In terms of development the Nexus device will always be a step ahead due to being a stock android phone. Crazy amount of roms and kernels. I find the N4 faster and smoother in day to day operation as it optimises the software perfectly. The Galaxy bare in mind has better camera, expandable storage, bigger screen, 1080p not that big a difference, removable battery.
Down to you I'm happy with both devices. But use my Galaxy as a daily driver due to better camera and such.

Sweet, i hear the i9505 is better than the i9500 in terms of the battery and no heating issues, not to mention how many custom roms and kernels available.I would have bought the i9505 if i had any idea about which version is better so now im left the i9500 , im not gonna buy a new s4 since im not planning on spending that much of money but think im going to buy me a nexus 4 and just use the 2 phones for different purposes, just a quick question, black or white nexus?
Black one for sure. It's a sexy device. It just works so well. The speed on custom roms like Rasbean is great. Plus you get the latest software updates to android. The roms are better than the GE of the roms as Google upload a version for developers to tweak so you get many more custom roms based on their sources or CM etc. If it had a better camera and that it'd be my main device Nexus 5 should be great.

Yea , its what i heard too, but oh well motorola is fine also.
I have both. I9505 and nexus 4. Believe me, the nexus 4 is much more enjoyable to use, tiny little things in nexus 4 like navbar, curved screen edge makes using quickcontrols in aosp browser really much better where as in s4 it's harder to trigger thr quickcontrols since the screen is not level with the bezel.
The feel of holding the nexus 4 is much better than s4 with its plastic back, felt sticky and lots of sweat on s4.
And the most awesome in nexus 4 is the vibration feel when you type, it's softer and deep, i really cant explain it and you have to feel it yourself.
Other than three i mention above, galaxy s4 wins hands down.

hi there,
i know there are a lot of users here for Nexus S, but i'm still considering my options between a Nexus S and a Galaxy S, both under 300 euros.
what would you recommend?
thanks a lot.
Probably Nexus S. It gets all the android updates first, but the galaxy S has 720p recording. Otherwise they're identical pretty much.

"to be honest, it boils down to 2 things.
1. Do you want massive amounts of memory? Nexus has 16gb max,Galaxy has up to 48gb max
2. Do you want faster updates? [then go for Nexus]
The rest is just little things that aren't massively important "

OTA are more stable.. I used to run CM on my EVO/N1 (don't even bother with the NS) but it was never as rock solid as a stable Google release. Experienced this both on the NS4G and N1.
Not too bad on Nexus devices but its flaky on devices that don't have completely compatible kernels.

You do need OTAs. The Manufacturer has to supply the source for the kernel for that new Android OS. Otherwise, you'll be stuck using the stock kernel which will limit development.

I'm not talking about that OTA of stock ROMs. I'm talking about the KERNEL SOURCE of that Android version. If you're using a Samsung phone and a internal leak is made for Samsung Galaxy S for Android 2.5 (making it up). You can make a custom ROM out of it but you CANNOT use the previous kernel source because it will be incompatible. You will be forced to use the stock kernel.
Samsung will not release source for pre-released kernels.
Nexus s for sure. I have both and have to say. The specs are almost identical but nexus s is updated regularly where the galaxy s doesnt recieve any...

I have both
I have a Galaxy S and a Nexus S. My Nexus S is not the AMOLED variety despite being told it was when I was purchasing it... Readon to find out why I kept it anyways.
The AMOLED screen experiences pixel wear or burnout or whatever you want to call it. After owning the Galaxy S for several months, I read about a keypad code that could generate different color screens for testing pixel coloration. That is when I saw my battery symbol and some other screen elements had an image burned in. It was very light and a custom launcher that allowed the main screen to rotate freely solved the issue of burn-in but apparently, the pixels still fade, just not in an obvious pattern now.
The Nexus S does not come with a SD card slot. At first, I thought that would be an issue... But I only really needed five gigs or so of music at any one time anyways.
Meh. Both phones are great. I prefer my Nexus S because I can unlock it if I want to and I really appreciate the slight curve to the glass. I gave my Galaxy S away after being satisfied with my Nexus S. You should not end up regretting either phone.
Nexus has camera flash
Galaxy has FM radio.
will Nexus S support and receive a great OS upgrade like, let's say (hypotheticaly) a 2.5 or 3.0 android ?

yes its a nexus phone.
I have a nexus s and I am very happy with it. Its definetly classier (looks and feels) than the gs. However things I think people have forgotten to mention is that the galaxy s (as I understand) has a video out (through the headphone jack?) Which us something u wish I could do. However saying that I wouldn't swap it for the gs! Also a smaller thing is that the NS has NFC, although I still haven't used it it seems it could come to shops in the very near future
Hope that helps good luck with the choice and infact I honestly think that you will be completely happy with either choice!

I have neither, but all I can say is that I'll never buy a non-nexus phone from Samsung. If you want good software, wait for the nexus, but if you want good hardware, the S3 would be for you. Personally, I feel that only good hardware isn't what all a person needs..

I have both. Nexus is rooted, S3 not yet. S3 manages it's power a lot better. Nexus must be rooted to achieve decent battery life. Hardware is much better on S3, but I wouldn't have a problem going back to my nexus either.

The S3's bootloader on Verizon is locked. That right there makes me want to keep my Nexus. I'm new to Samsung anyways. Only had my Nexus for a few weeks now. I've played with the S3... its a sweet phone. The screen and camera are amazing! But I'm content with my Nexus for now.

I don't have a Nexus, but I've played with one and it's certainly a great phone.
I'm an AOSP-addict, who has never once been satisfied by a manufacturer's ROM. I would crack-flash a buggy build of CyanogenMod rather than have something like Sense/Motoblur.
However... The TouchWiz on my Galaxy S3 isn't so bad when rooted and debloated. It's good enough that I switched back to it from the buggy CM10 ROM I had on it.
They're both good phones, but it boils down to how badly you want AOSP and updates from Google.

I wouldnt say that my Sprint GS3 is that much better than my GS2 Epic Touch.I think the screen on my Epic Touch might be better.Other than this they are almist the same.In Qudrant GS3 scores aloms the same in FPS tests(i know GS3 has higher res) it beats GS2 by low margins in others, and in some tests GS2 scores higher.
Is GS3 better?Yes,but not by much. Now international quad core Xynos version is probably a lot better, and Korean quad core with 2gb of ram is the king of phones at the moment.

I speak for my self but ever sense i bought Samsung Behold 2(RIP),i loved Samsung phones mainly because of rought build quality and Amoled and dont even consider other phones(I do like Xperia's only thing missing is Amoled).

Going from a S3 to a Nexus 4? Same size phone, IPS screen. Don't know why you would bother unless it's going to be a beater.
From the looks of it the phone looks much more elegant than the s3. I'm tired of having my phone creak all the time. And official Google sounds really nice especially after using my nexus 7. Aokp Roms on s3 are nice but mine all have issues

I'm coming from a T-Mobile S3. I don't think I will notice that much of a difference in screen size. The AOSP/AOKP roms were always a little buggy and had bad battery life on my S3 compared to the touchwiz roms. And since I hate TW and love vanilla Android, the Nexus 4 made a lot of sense.

Exactly. I have bad battery life as well with aokp. Only way to fix it is by flashing kernels but I have to do that every update and its just getting way too crazy to have aokp + more than 2hr screen on time. And with aokp my phone is always so hot. Nexus 4 sounds pretty good.

I am. My reasons why?
-Pure Google
-Quad-Core
-No more buggy ROMS
-Latest and greatest Updates
-More elegant in my taste
-More dev support
-More customization (easier bootloader to unlock, and as I said before, the dev support will be ahead of the game)
-WORLD PHONE. Going to be graduating this year.. If I travel for college or etc, my phone is always reliable.
I'm coming from a Sprint S3. Ideally, I think I'd like to try another S3 of the GSM variant. But I will probably be getting the new Nexus.
I'm seriously debating it myself. I love my nexus 7...my first Nexus device. I love my S3...just not sure what the real benefits would be. I love AOKP but putting that on the nexus, wouldnt that be defeating the purpose?

Reason not to sell the S3 for the Nexus 4
Good point, can a mod please move this to the Nexus 4 forum?
I have both. The nexus feels and looks better. Other than build quality I can't see why I'd keep the GS3. My nexus has a slight rattle. So it will swapped for a replacement.
The GS3 doesn't feel as nice to hold. Even the GS2 beats it for feel. The os is better and I prefer the camera on the nexus. I think it is quicker too. It feels sharper.
It is all down to personal preference. The GS3 is still amazing, maybe its the fact the Nexus is new is the reason I prefer it. The expandable storage is nice and the removable battery, but I find its not as important as I thought it would be so I'm not missing it.
I'm gonna wait till next year's nexus. Between the SGS3 and the nexus 4 there isn't enough difference in hardware to justify a change.
You want to have android 5.0 when it comes out? Me too, and I will get it with the next nexus.
Similar screen, same battery, same camera, also quad core, etc. I'm very happy with the SGS3 right now.
16GB is definitely not enough for me.
The nexus 4 is indeed tempting, but the s3 now has some rather useful features in the latest 4.1.2 update. Multiwindow for example, is great for watching YouTube while browsing. Sure, vanilla android will probably get multiwindow eventually, but that wouldn't happen until Key lime pie, at least.
Believe it or not but I "require" some of these touchwiz features now, and these features are not in the market, they could be but don't nearly come to what the quality Samsung have.
Never thought I would say this but I love Touchwiz haha.

No surprises there, after years of using third party launchers and most recently Nova Prime, I'm now using TouchWiz for the first time on the S3 after owning all previous versions.
Well I got the Nexus tonight, and I absolutely love it, still got my S3 but she is being sold tomorrow, I don't think I've ever loved a device so much.

I don't need to read the Nexus 4 specs to know I'll never consider it, because Nexus = No SD slot and that's why I've crossed Nexus devices that haven't even been thought up yet off my list of possibilities.
Touch wiz features are amazing. I'd get a nexus as a second phone as I don't like pure android as much as jelly bean with touch wiz. Probably I'd use a lumia as a second device rather than a nexus though. The only bonus to a nexus is the extra smoothness gained through less bloat of unnecessary fat that I hope Samsung will trim away in the next few updates.

Hello all
Just wondering if anybody has switched their S3 for the Nexus 4? and what are your thoughts?
I am going to selling my S3 and obtaining a Nexus 4 simply because it looks amazing, and vanilla android is a bonus..
Your thoughts?

One man's food is another man's poison. And too many people comment merely based on hearsay. I have both and love them equally. I have been a CM user since CM 6 and N4 scores hands down there. Still, that may not be the clinching factor for you!

I'm personally selling my N4 and intend to get a GS3. I find that I'm consistently worried about how fragile the Nexus 4 is. Not to mention I would really like to get expandable storage back, 16GB just doesn't give me enough.

Should I buy the nexus 4 to replace my one x? or should I spend double and buy the One or S4 nexus experience when they come out?
Do whatever you want. If money is not an issue then go with HTC or Samsung. Most likely users over here will tell you to get the Nexus 4. If you enjoyed the HTC experience then get the One. If you want to try something new, get the S4. Otherwise get the Nexus 4.

You're asking a question that there is no right answer for.
Everyone here has a great point, but you go with the nexus 4 it's still a great phone. ^_^

I came from the one x to the nexus 4 and for me it feels like quite a big step up

Same for me. I switched from one x couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I took out the one x and was struck with the difference of many things! Build quality the most Go for the N4.

If you want stock android why spend the extra money on a HTC One or GS4 with stock android when you can get the Nexus 4 at half the price.

Not completely true, the hardware of the S4 is great and the camera, screen, speaker and screensize are better than the N4 imo. Its the crappy and bloated software by Samsung that cripples the phone atm. I had the S4 for a week and sold it because of the lags and stutters, the camera and screen are very very good.

Not the screen. No matter how high the resolution is, and how ridiculous the pixel density, nothing makes up for the unbearable oversaturation of AMOLED displays If I were to go for a new phone (although I probably won't for at least a year and a half) I'd actually go for the HTC One right now, not the S4. As for which to choose out of the three options, it ultimately comes down IMO to whether you need more than 16GB of storage. If you don't need more, then there aren't really any significant benefits of the next-gen phones over the N4. Otherwise, get the HTC One.

I found the S4 screen much less oversaturated than the S3 or Note2 and the colors in pictures looked very natural to me

Ah really? Fair enough then, I can't stand the S3's display compared to a calibrated N4.

True, the colors on the S3 we`re too `colored`for me as well,
Honestly, i'd wait for the next nexus. The one x is still a pretty good phone and should hold up till then but its your choice.

Well from graduation I got about $1800 and don't know what to spend it on. I've been wanting to buy a different phone so I'm just stuck between them all
I know they're the same size but the one screen just seems tiny compared to nexus plus that black bar for some apps is annoying as hell. Running PA with pie is awesome on nexus it gives a full screen experience

Htc is a junk. N4 is a world better. I also went from one x. Never regret it

Just buy the N4, slap a custom kernel on it for good batterylife and color control and sell the N4 in November/December for the N5. Waiting is pointless, we`re human so who can be 100% sure that he/she will still be alive tomorrow
