Long pressing the power button does nothing. The power menu does not come up, and as soon as I stop pressing it the screen turns off( the long press registers as a quick press so waking the screen on/ turning off is fine).
Any ideas what i can do ? Maybe force stop a certain service that would refresh the whole UI or something. My battery is at 9% now so I can wait till the battery dies and reboot it after. But im afraid it wont turn on if it was a hardware fault ;/
EDIT:
Solved. Had to do a hard reboot for it to work(holding down the power button for 10 second). Now it works fine, and i feel stupid . Lock please.

The title says it all. I did a back up and flashed the rom. It worked well after the first boot but the Google apps was FC so I reboot to flash the gapps file. However, after shut down the kindle it just wont turn on. When I press the power button the green light appears for 3 seconds and it off again. What can I do ?
Edit: Now when I press the power button nothing happen :|
maybe charging it with the wall charger for some hours ...
Try holding down in the power button for like 20 seconds them turn on

I had this issue and thought I toasted it, negative.
Check to see if screen is still lit, if so tap power, screen should turn off. Wait about a minute then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
By that time should still be off, then after you let it go tap the power and should boot right up.
Not sure whats causing this but a minor glitch in the matrix, no biggie. Still very much useable after install of gapps.

Thanks I was able to turn it back one after a few tries
It seems this rom doesn't actually shut down. When I select the shutdown option the back light remains on and I have to force it off with the 20 button press.
So I think there might be something wrong with the power button, when it does work it has a 5 second lag between pressing it and when the lock screen pops up. However, there have been several times where I'm going to bring it out of sleep mode and it doesn't wake up - so I press and hold the power button for a few seconds and nothing. When I press it again it vibrates and boots up normally. So what I think is happening is I'm actually turning it off, thinking that it's having issues with the SOD, and then turning it back on again. But no matter how many times I just simply press the power button it still won't bring up the lock screen out of sleep. So is there some way I can turn it on via the volume rocker?
Thanks in advanced.

That is the sleep of death. No on the volume without special programming.
Well, the only thing that made me think it was otherwise was the battery stats - it shows that the tablet has been awake the whole time it's been in SOD...

That is what I have found, it is still running. That is why you have to monkey with the power button, the first long press shuts it off even tho it looks to be off. After it is shut down, then it will turn back on. Their are some ics roms that this is fixed in. I used to have the sod, but the rom I am using don't have that problem and I have had that problem with all roms, sept ics.
Hi,
after unlocking and rooting my Nexus 4 I flashed the franco-kernel. I did these steps with the ToolKit. But now when I start my phone I can press the power button once and it offers me to shut it down. After that there is no reaction when pressing the power button. I tried to reset the Nexus but I still get the same error. Can anyone help? Thanks!
EDIT: My nexus just turned off the screen and I was able to reactive it by pushing the powerbutton. What works all the time is shutting down the phone by long pressing.
From your initial post it sounds like it might be sticking..

I don't think that it's hardware related. It might be a software issue. Sometimes the screen stays on for ever unless I open an app and close it again. It seems the phone doesn't know what to do when the button is pressed.
EDIT: When connected to PC I can use the button only to power off the phone. I can't wake it...weird
Twice in the last 4 days now I have come to my phone pressed the power button to wake up my phone and nothing happens. Both times I have had to do a hardware restart with power and volume up pressed.
It has happened after it has been fully charged when I go to use it first thing in the morning. Probably not an alarm as it happened on Saturday first and there was no alarm set.
I know the phone was still on because on the second occasion the notification LED was not flashing but got no response.
My alarm never went off. I am fortunate that after the first time I questioned the reliability of the N4 and set my N7 as a second alarm.
Only App I have recently installed is Chrome Beta, uninstalled to be on the safe side.
Has anyone else had this issue, or got any idea what could be causing it!?
Fingers crossed 4.2.2 is real and it has fixes for this stuff!!!
Try doing a factory reset. Are you rooted? What kernel are you using?

Just stock factory. Very few apps installed as I don't use that many (browser for most things).
Could try factory reset...
while your screen is on and in the home screen, long press power button until you get presented with shut-down options, then long press the "power off" button until you're presented with "reboot to safe mode"
use your phone in safe mode for a day or two and see if the problem repeats itself.
if the problem does not repeat itself, that means an app you've installed has changed something.and is the cause of your problem.
Try press the volume button before press the power button to wake it up. I also encounter this problem occasionally and manage to turn the screen on with the volume down then power

How do you do a hard restart on the 6T,tries holding the power button in for 10-15 secs and nothing
Thanks for any help
Should be volume down and power button held in while turning the phone on.
I don't mean recovery ,I mean forcing it to shut down ,on all my other phones it was hold in power button

i thikn u just have to hold it down for much longer. i've noticed that power on takes probably a full second longer of holding the button than any other phone i've ever had.
Can't even get it to switch off ,held it down for about 30 sec and nothing

i read somewhere on here that you may have to press and hold both volume buttons AND power for the phone to do something. i dont know what it was, but it was something. try that. try all the combinations. holding buttons down isn't going to damage your phone.
Ok this definitely does not work on my one +6T
No matter how long I hold the power button in for it does not force the phone to restart .
Could anyone else test this ,or suggest reasons why .I always liked to do a hard reset Evey week or so so close down any apps that have run in the background etc
Thanks

My phone will hard reboot by pressing and holding power and volume up for approximately 10 seconds. Can you not just reboot the normal way through the power menu?
Mine doesn't turn off just by holding the power button. What you're describing though is not a reset of any type. It's a force shutdown, and that's not something you should be doing unless you need to (when the phone is unresponsive, for example). Just do a regular restart, if you feel the need to be refreshing or resetting, as you call it.
power off /restart/screenshot are the 3 options I get when I push the power button..tmo version..

I tested mang0s solution by pressing power and vol up in both recovery and normal mode. It works, recovery will reboot the phone and in normal mode the phone powers off.

Forcing a shutdown has the potential to cause corruption. If you shut down correctly then the OS tells everything to close first, which will avoid that.

I second this. Hold volume up and the power button and the phone turns off after 10 seconds.
