hard restart - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

How do you do a hard restart on the 6T,tries holding the power button in for 10-15 secs and nothing
Thanks for any help

Should be volume down and power button held in while turning the phone on.

I don't mean recovery ,I mean forcing it to shut down ,on all my other phones it was hold in power button

i thikn u just have to hold it down for much longer. i've noticed that power on takes probably a full second longer of holding the button than any other phone i've ever had.

Can't even get it to switch off ,held it down for about 30 sec and nothing

i read somewhere on here that you may have to press and hold both volume buttons AND power for the phone to do something. i dont know what it was, but it was something. try that. try all the combinations. holding buttons down isn't going to damage your phone.

Ok this definitely does not work on my one +6T
No matter how long I hold the power button in for it does not force the phone to restart .
Could anyone else test this ,or suggest reasons why .I always liked to do a hard reset Evey week or so so close down any apps that have run in the background etc
Thanks

My phone will hard reboot by pressing and holding power and volume up for approximately 10 seconds. Can you not just reboot the normal way through the power menu?

Mine doesn't turn off just by holding the power button. What you're describing though is not a reset of any type. It's a force shutdown, and that's not something you should be doing unless you need to (when the phone is unresponsive, for example). Just do a regular restart, if you feel the need to be refreshing or resetting, as you call it.

power off /restart/screenshot are the 3 options I get when I push the power button..tmo version..

I tested mang0s solution by pressing power and vol up in both recovery and normal mode. It works, recovery will reboot the phone and in normal mode the phone powers off.

Forcing a shutdown has the potential to cause corruption. If you shut down correctly then the OS tells everything to close first, which will avoid that.

I second this. Hold volume up and the power button and the phone turns off after 10 seconds.

Question about Hard Resets after ROM flashes

I have always noticed that it is a good habit to do a Hard Reset after Rom Flash, but I am wondering if I am doing this correctly, so can anyone help me out?
I have always flashed ROMs, then as the system reboots, I have allowed the boot... skipped all setup....and then went straight to settings>security and did the 1234 Hard Reset. Is there a better way to do it?
let the setup complete, turn off the phone , press and hold both vol up and vol down, press and release power (keep holding vol up and down)
on grey screen press vol up phone will restart and run setup again.

that's the way i also do it, no problems whatsoever. if you cannot access the security setting for some reason, you can always do it with the volume and start hardware keys. i think there is no difference, just like there's no difference between the red button reset and restart from the menu.

So as soon as it reaches 100%, the phone restarts itself. I am to stop this process? Sorry, I just want to be sure I am doing it correctly. When should I interrupt the normal restart procedure?

Ah, well... maybe I'll just stick with what I know.
It's also worked without issue for me, so...
I let out run all the way through setting up and then hard reset. (sounds off to me too but hey)

OK, can you make sure that you have got the external battery charger connected and switched on just in case you have a battery problem. Then try switching on or doing a reset (if it doesn't boot but there appears to be power). Just a thought.
how this was happening for you?
Try taking the battery out and then popping it back in before switching it on again. This is a known issue that occurs from time to time. There is no need to perform a hard reset as advised above.

Tried this serveral times but no luck..
Could maybe be a battery charger/battery or phone short (amnongst other things). I think it might be a return to supplier or HTC job. A backup battery charger/spare battery might help or it might waste time. Sorry.

[Q] Any way to turn the screen on via the volume rocker?

So I think there might be something wrong with the power button, when it does work it has a 5 second lag between pressing it and when the lock screen pops up. However, there have been several times where I'm going to bring it out of sleep mode and it doesn't wake up - so I press and hold the power button for a few seconds and nothing. When I press it again it vibrates and boots up normally. So what I think is happening is I'm actually turning it off, thinking that it's having issues with the SOD, and then turning it back on again. But no matter how many times I just simply press the power button it still won't bring up the lock screen out of sleep. So is there some way I can turn it on via the volume rocker?
Thanks in advanced.

That is the sleep of death. No on the volume without special programming.
Well, the only thing that made me think it was otherwise was the battery stats - it shows that the tablet has been awake the whole time it's been in SOD...

That is what I have found, it is still running. That is why you have to monkey with the power button, the first long press shuts it off even tho it looks to be off. After it is shut down, then it will turn back on. Their are some ics roms that this is fixed in. I used to have the sod, but the rom I am using don't have that problem and I have had that problem with all roms, sept ics.

Your phone should not turn on by itself after inserting the battery.
So it's definitely something related to the power button.
