[Q] Any way to turn the screen on via the volume rocker? - Acer Iconia A500

So I think there might be something wrong with the power button, when it does work it has a 5 second lag between pressing it and when the lock screen pops up. However, there have been several times where I'm going to bring it out of sleep mode and it doesn't wake up - so I press and hold the power button for a few seconds and nothing. When I press it again it vibrates and boots up normally. So what I think is happening is I'm actually turning it off, thinking that it's having issues with the SOD, and then turning it back on again. But no matter how many times I just simply press the power button it still won't bring up the lock screen out of sleep. So is there some way I can turn it on via the volume rocker?
Thanks in advanced.

That is the sleep of death. No on the volume without special programming.

Well, the only thing that made me think it was otherwise was the battery stats - it shows that the tablet has been awake the whole time it's been in SOD...

That is what I have found, it is still running. That is why you have to monkey with the power button, the first long press shuts it off even tho it looks to be off. After it is shut down, then it will turn back on. Their are some ics roms that this is fixed in. I used to have the sod, but the rom I am using don't have that problem and I have had that problem with all roms, sept ics.

How can I hard reset this thing?

So I was using the camera today and accidentally hit the power button. The screen turned off and the camera appeared to stop, but I can not power the device back on. holding the power button did nothing, nor did just pressing it. Normally I'd remove the battery at this point, but as you folks know, this is impossible unless I want to break my device. Anyone know how I can hard reset this thing or will I just have to wait until the battery dies? (Which will take a very very long time.)
I've had some very weird power problems with my Tab to the point where I'm thinking of sending it in for RMA. It sounds similar to your problem.
After leaving it for a period of time "sleeping", I come back and press the power button, and the display does not turn on.
Over a 5-minute period of fiddling with holding different combinations of the 3 buttons at the top, I got it to hard power off. It does take quite a while to hold them, longer than I would have expected!
My went to RMA. I asked for a refund.

I think all you have to do is hold the power button for a very long time, like 10 seconds. My friend and I both had the problem where it wouldn't turn on after a while asleep and this is how we forced it to reboot.
THANK YOU!!!!...looked everywhere for this. So, holding the power button for 10 sec works.

[Q] Kindle Fire wont turn on after flashing Energy ROM 3.15

The title says it all. I did a back up and flashed the rom. It worked well after the first boot but the Google apps was FC so I reboot to flash the gapps file. However, after shut down the kindle it just wont turn on. When I press the power button the green light appears for 3 seconds and it off again. What can I do ?
Edit: Now when I press the power button nothing happen :|
maybe charging it with the wall charger for some hours ...
Try holding down in the power button for like 20 seconds them turn on

I had this issue and thought I toasted it, negative.
Check to see if screen is still lit, if so tap power, screen should turn off. Wait about a minute then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
By that time should still be off, then after you let it go tap the power and should boot right up.
Not sure whats causing this but a minor glitch in the matrix, no biggie. Still very much useable after install of gapps.

Thanks I was able to turn it back one after a few tries
It seems this rom doesn't actually shut down. When I select the shutdown option the back light remains on and I have to force it off with the 20 button press.

Power button

Hello,
I have a strange problem with my Nexus. My power button is acting strange. Long hold brings up power menu, but:
- short press does not turn screen off
- Smart cover also does not turn screen off
- double tap to status bar does not turn screen off
- 15 seconds of timeout also does not turn screen off.
What is happening? Thank you.
So your screen will not turn off at all besides powering off the device?

Thats right.
Well i don't think the power button itself is the problem since it works to power it off and on, and since the screen wont sleep by other methods either.
Did you flash a new ROM, kernel, or other mod before this happened?

N7 Won't turn on or charge

So the other morning I wake up. I grab my tablet off the charger, click the lock button, and notice it was off. I figured it must have crashed overnight. I hold down the power button, and it doesn't turn on. I try again this time holding it down longer. It then turns on, but as soon as the lock screen shows up, the screen freezes and I can not do anything. I hold the power button down for an extended period of time, but it turns off and wont reboot no matter what. It wont charge (I assume), it isn't recognizable by my PC, and it won't turn on. I have no clue what happened. This happened randomly. I doubt it matters, but I'm running a CM11 based ROM (I think? Haven't changed it in a while, can't remember) and I have no clue what Kernel. I also noticed that the power button doesn't click as "nicely" (can't think of another word) as the vol. up and vol. down buttons. Could the power button be stuck? Any help or will I have to return it to my warrantor and start over? Thanks in advance.

Long time to wake up = normal?

Hi
I've just bought an ex-demo display unit off ebay (with limited warranty from a rated biz seller) and after I press the power button whilst it's in sleep/standby mode, it can take around 15-40 sec for the screen to turn on. On my old Tab-S2 (and virtually every other device) pressing the power button wakes up the device immediately.
Am I missing some weird new feature here or is it faulty? How can I test it?
If I do a screen double-tap it's the same. If I hold down the power button then it prompts straight away to turn off. So it just seems to have the delay whilst it's in sleep/display-off mode. If it's powered off then it starts after about 5sec holding down the power key.
It's no good having a faster tablet if it takes ages to wake up - any ideas?

that's not normal for sure, it should wake up instantly after pressing the power button, you can try to factory reset or flash latest firmware, if problem exists you should return it then.
Thanks for the info - I'd already updated the firmware but it made no difference. I also ran the Samsung Members Hardware test https://www.samsung.com/levant/support/mobile-devices/samsung-members-how-to-perform-hardware-test/ but and the hardkeys check out fine.
However I've just discovered that if I disable "double tap to wake" (option enabled by default) then the power key and fingerprint touch now wake it immediately. The behaviour was rather random though so will give it some time.
Well that turned out to be short lived as it sometimes then went to sleep and couldn't be woken up at all, save for the power and vol down key combo. I contacted Samsung support and they advised me to return it!
