Hey guys,
My Vibrant is losing cell signal on its own. It happens randomly like once every couple days. I tried switching to Airplane mode but then I can't switch back to normal mode. This happened on stock, Trigger and Biwinning ROMs.
I have tried reseating the sim card but it still happens. I have also tried in GSM only and GSM and WCDMA mode but that doesn't help either.
The only fix that works is take out the battery and put it back in again. Does this mean I have a bad phone or is there something that can be done?
Are u wiping between flashes??
This has been happening to me on the stock Odin 2.2 build. Think it's the newer KB5 build. Samsung is so full of fail.

Oh I get that too, but I don't think the thread is talking about just data dropping. I woke up this morning to a completely disconnected phone. Not receiving calls. Not receiving texts (not that I ever get any). Nothing. No SIM card found. This after the phone was working perfectly the night before. Nothing changed.
It's really strange. Might try flashing another modem...would that help the SIM card not being recognized?
Thanks guys, I just tried Odin format repartition>KB5 stock and still got the error.
Now it's either the bad sim, kb5 sucks or my phone has a problem. I'm getting a new sim tomorrow

Thanks inconceeeivable. I flashed KB1, we'll be able to narrrow it down soon.. I love this community
My phone went from 3G to EDGE to nothing in about an hour and I restarted the thing 2-3 times and nothing happened. When I finally went to work which is 15 miles away I had full signal no problem. Perhaps it's a network thing?

Thanks but I don't think its network, I get the same problem in Chicago as well. Also my wife's vibrant shows full signal. We traded sim cards and I still see the issue so its NOT sim card either. Now its narrowed down to:
1) KB-5 modem
2) Phone itself
I am still checking and will update the post

I'll Answer your choice....its choice 1) KB5 Modem. This modem is terrible i been using it on 3 different roms and while on this modem my data would freeze/stop randomly really noticeable on downloads and browser. I would be on the browser searching a page and all of a sudden it would not load anymore it would stop. I recently switched back to KB1 and my issues are solved no more data stops/drops. KB5 is really good on GPS but the data is horrible with the freezes/stops. Hope i helped you choose better. Stay away from KB5 if you notice browser loading stopping.

Thanks for sharing your feedback
Today I got the signal error on kb1. Sadly this seems to be a hardware issue with my phone. I also checked to see what my baseband version shows and it shows "unknown"
Then I checked my IMEI and I got "your imei is "" "
So yeah that sucks. The only way to get signal back is take out battery and put it back in.

I did, still the same issue...
I thought it was just me. It was horrible about 2 weeks ago. 2 different modems different solve the problem so I was convinced it was a network problem. I waited it out and they seemed to have fixed it. Instead if an x most of the day I have 1 or 2 bars of edge like before lol
Haven't noticed problems on KA6, but I haven't been using it heavily. (Switching between Vibrant and HD7)
Might be worth a try.
Edit: Also, have you tried Bionix? I know that the same phone never had any problems on 1.3.1. Think it has KB1 though, so it may not make a difference for you.

Thanks guys, I did try Bionix nextgen which I believe is KA6 and didn't see the problem but again its just been 12 hours so far. I bought a dead vibrant with broken screen and just replaced the sim assembly. Let's see if that fixes the problem...
You're not alone. I have the same problem and I've flashed every modem I available. Sometimes I lose cell signal but not often. The data signal is what's spotty for me.
Thanks Blown89.
So when I lose signal, I tried checking IMEI *#06# and I get "null/null" and yes my efs is fine. Once I take out the battery and turn on the phone, it starts to work fine. Tried all software resets...
Any ideas?
Anyone else had this problem my data just doesn't seem to work anymore.
Any suggestions?

did you just flash a new firmware or soemthing, make sure you have the correct apn settings
Maybe your provider has a data outage?

I updated my phone with the official update and it has been fine just stopped working repaired it and installed it again but still nothing.
I'm on a unlimited data plan and i don't even use it that much.
It has fell down the back of my bed onto my wooden floor think it could be damaged?
Sorted now cheers

Just went to settings>sony ericsson>internet settings then picked my carrier then nothing was happening then all of a sudden the h appeared and it seems fine now mate.
The other day i was driving and talking on the phone (i know.. guilty as charged) but then all a sudden my phone hung up.. i loooked down and my signal bars and service was gone.. they werent at the top anymore, its like they just disappeared..
After like 2-3 minutes everything came back up and was running normal (until i got home)
I got home and turned on wifi toggle.. put the phone down and noticed it didnt connect.. I went to wifi settings and the "Turning on WiFI" notification was there.. but nothing after that... it just gets stuck on that or something.
it wont go past that.. Ive tried 5 other roms and the same thing occurred. but on some roms that ive used, when i turned on the wifi, the wifi would be 'checked' but none of the wifi routers would show up..
Its not my router either.. because the colleges wifi doesnt show up on the phone either..
Ive also flashed the latest GB Radio as well.. No luck ..
Any other idea's or suggestions..??
Thanks guys
It wouldn't be the radio. The kernel handles wifi. Are you wiping /system before flashing a ROM?

i was thinkin that
But you can still connect to mobile network, right? How about trying to use your phone as a WiFi hotspot? I believe it runs on the same hardware.
EDIT:
Have you also tried pulling battery for a few mins? I can't explain it but I've done that to fix weird glitches on my phone before.
If wifi is not working hotspot will not work.
That's the point of trying. If hotspot works when WiFi doesn't, it can't be a hardware issue.

True, though the chances are less than slim. Still, troubleshooting means eliminating possibilites. So does hotspot work, or no?
Hello all,
Quick question. Is anyone losing Google Sync / Data when on Wifi ?
Happens at home and work. Never had an issue with my GS3 or One X. On cell service it works fine.
update 11/24
Seems as though its a pretty widespread issue. Also , it is an issue with the connection it self, not just google sync.
I opened up a "google issue" , if you are having the same problems I recommend posting on the thread. It can be found here:

I have the exact same problem. But it only happens at home. At home we've wep and at work wpa2. Never had an issue with my GS2. On cell service it works fine for me too.
Is android 4.2 incompatible with 128-bit WEP???
This is driving me nuts! Any ideas community??

I've noticed this too but seems to only be when the phone is sleeping? I'll turn screen on and bars will be gray and then turn blue. Did you guys turning off wifi optimization in wifi settings? I might try that next. It's some sort of power saving

hey guys,
I actually put in a google issue that seems to be picking up some steam.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40065
I have no clue what causes it at this point. It doesnt happen on all networks. Happens on my work network which is open / unsecured.
Also does it on my inlaws network which is wpa2 encrypted. However my home network which is also wpa2 encrypted is fine.
I recommend posting on the google issue to raise awareness
I added my experience, it seems to me like it's keeping wifi alive but not the Google connection. I have no issues on a Nexus 7 running 4.2 so it's not my router either but could be something specific to Nexus 4 hardware. I might try changing wifi sleep policy to never to see if at least this way HSPA will be connected when screen is off.

Anybody not having this issue? It's really annoying and for some reason even if I set wifi to stay on when plugged in or never it takes forever to disconnect so I still don't get alerts. Definitely appears to be an issue with 4.2 so i guess we just have to wait and hope it is fixed in next update.

It's happening to me both with my N4 on 4.2 and also with my Transformer Prime, recently updated to 4.1.1. Only on specific networks.

It actually happens to me on both new Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. Happens on home network (WPA2).
Any chance this could be a Google server issue? My Nexus 7 on 4.2 and GS3 running CM10 4.1.2 doesn't have issue either just my Nexus 4. Not sure what's causing it on my Nexus 4 but it's driving me crazy.

I'm pretty sure this is a general Wifi issue, and not limited to Google services. I've noticed that when the Wifi goes to sleep, I no longer receive incoming calls in GrooveIP or Sipdroid. I also don't receive email alerts until I turn on the screen, and the wifi re-activates.
EDIT: I ran a simple test. Loaded GrooveIP, called GV # from another phone, GrooveIP rang. Let the phone sit for 10 minutes to fall asleep. Called again. Didn't ring. I then loaded up Advanced Wifi Lock to prevent the phone from going asleep. The first call worked, and so did the one after 10 minutes. So, this definitely seems like an issue that impacts any service depends on a reliable Wifi link - not just Google's Sync services. I ran the same test with Sipdroid, and got identical results.

That's a bad example because GrooveIP uses GTalk on the backend so you're still using Google Services. What makes this more puzzling is I went to a Brooklyn Nets game last night and they have crazy fast open WiFi at the place while my phone was connected, it appears that all notifications worked even when the screen was off. I was too busy watching the game to pay much attention but I did get emails, etc. while the screen was off and I was on Wifi. The main difference between that WiFi and my home Wifi is the one at the arena had no security at all.
I've been playing around with my router and tweaking settings but nothing is working and I'm pretty sure this is a phone software issue. What I want to find is someone with 4.2 on a Nexus 4 who is NOT having an issue. I'm starting to wonder if this is an app or Google Service sync related issue.
My Nexus 7 running 4.2 does NOT have any issue on the same exact Wifi so I'm wondering if it's some app or setting on my phone that's causing this
For me it definitely seems to occur more on unsecured networks.
Not only is it google sync but the connection in general.
Anybody with this issue brave enough to try a factory reset? If it doesn't get solved soon I'll probably flash CWM recovery, do a nandroid and then do a factory reset to see if that fixes it. At least that way if it doesn't I can restore backup.
Anyone want to try now?

Weird! So you did a factory reset and still nothing? Did you still have the issue before you restored apps? I mean like completely stock with just what comes on the phone. If you still have the issue with that, then we know it's not app related.
I might also try downloading and reflashing the system image...maybe something got screwed up in the 4.2 update??

Interesting - is Franco Kernel 5 stable enough to use as a daily driver? Any issues? I'm willing to flash it now to test it but don't want to make the phone less stable.

Strange then that it might fix this issue since the wifi module is stored in system and he's not overwriting it so something in the kernel itself

Hi everybody,
I bought a note 3 from Verizon about one year ago, I started to have an WIFI issue that was not able to turn on (the button stayed in black-gray but never changed to on state), I thought with a hard reset that should be fixed but didn't remember that I had activated the activation lock(In that moment I was using stock lilipop), when the phone came up again I still wasn't able to access the WIFI so I'm stuck in there, I have tried flashing older ROM versions with no luck, the behavior was the same, do you know is this is a common issue or if there is anyway that I can modify a file in the system to fix this issue?, I'm in the Dominican Republic so I can't use the Verizon network to activate it.
Stock Android versions that I have tried:
4.4.2
4.4.4
5.0
In this screen it is supposed to show me all the available networks but instead when I press the Refresh button is saying this message but there is no wifi button to turn it on.

I presume the turn on wifi note at the bottom is not an active button and settings->general->wifi won't activate.
My first guess, all else being equal, is that the WiFi radio died.

I thought that but how can happen suddenly like that?, I was looking in the Internet and I see this is a common issue in Samsung phones but some of them can be fixed so I would like to test everything before buying a new phone.

That's how most electronic parts work these days, they either work or don't.
If it was working, and suddenly stopped, with nothing else changed.. That's a good indication the radio itself crapped out.
