[Q] Just got my new s4 - OTA & Rooting - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I just got my new I9505. If I plan on rooting it over the next few days, should I install/not install the OTA update that was downloaded when I first switched my phone on.
I'm wondering if the new OTA will make gaining root access more complicated. I'd like to stay using TouchWiz for a few more weeks before I get CM or other ROMs, so is the update worth it?
Currently on XXUAMDF
Thanks

[Q] AT&T Galaxy S4 AMF3 build root question

Hey guys, I purchased a Galaxy S4 16GB and rooted it almost immediately last week (I also took a nand backup as it is a must I've been told before installing any custom ROMS). A few days later the OTA update from AT&T seemingly forced itself onto my phone (AMF3 build) and I lost root privledges. Any way to get them back on the AMF3 build?
Also, if not, is there a way to block these updates from installing themselves without me giving my explicit consent?
Thanks guys!
there's information pertaining to these questions in the Q&A section, where this should have been posted.

[Q] Update after rooting

Dear gurus,
I'm new to Galaxy family, I have a small question. Provided that I have root access for S5 and using Stock ROM. Am I still able to OTA/Kies update?
The reason I want to root is to get rid of SamSung bloatwares and use custom kernel.
Thanks
No. You have to download firmware/rom updates then flash them to your phone now.
Using the phone for updates after rooting will cause you to lose all root access and then would just cause more problems. As stated before, you'll have to manually apply them once rooted.
Tks you all, I got it!

[Q] Galaxy note 3 update kit kat Help!

My galaxy note 3 tmobile Version was recently rooted. After I rooted it, I noticed that a software update was available. After research, I realized that you cannot update the software while your device is rooted. I tried using Xposted and Wanam, but it didn't suffice. Is it possible to flash an updated rom such as c-rom onto my phone? Or would that end up in a soft brick? I was hoping to install c-rom 4.4 onto my phone but its been taking a while to load up. It shows the c-rom logo, but I get inpatient after about 15 minutes of waiting. So I end up going into recovery. Is there another way I could update and keep my root?
Help would really be appreciated
Anyone?
I use stock rom and update with Mobile Odin . I Keep root with it

[Q] Dumb question: Will OTA update break my phone?

Hi all,
I did search before posting this, but couldn't find quite the question/answer I was looking for. I've got a rooted S4 SPH-L720.
I've got a custom ROM installed, Sacs 4.3, and the phone has been fine. I just got the system update downloaded and the button to install it. I've got TWRP as my recovery right now.
Last time I had one of these I just turned off notifications, but wasn't sure if this is an important update, or what it even updates? Is it only for phones running Stock?
Thanks,
-Jeff

Question about Root and OTA

Hi Guys,
im new to the Samsung World. I bought a S5 (G900F) with Lollipop 5.0. Today i rooted it with CF-Autoroot, installed rootchecker and so far everything is fine.
When i go to the Systemsettings now, to Softwareupdates and check for updates, there is an error now. It says, that the firmware was changed not authorized or something like that.
What does that mean? Am i still able to Update to Marshmallow, once it comes out? How can i do this? A few days ago, i received a Securityupdate via OTA. Is this possible in the future with this root? If not, how can i do it or how can i get back to stock?
Thx
Questions you should have asked before rooting really
But you're OK, the G900F is easy enough to get OTA working again, just flash another stock ROM over the top, and you'll be back to "official" status and able to receive updates OTA
sammobile .com for ROMs and ODIN that you use to flash them
Thx for your answer. I don't need OTA as long as i am able to update to Android 6 somehow. Is it still poossible to update via Kies 3 ? Am i also able to update the Securityupdates via Kies?
If so, im fine with that.
thx
