I've got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" SGH-T779 T-Mobile edition, which I am rather quite enjoying, except there's no means to overclock, or do standard USB charging because the /sys for usb forced charging is not available.
I'm wondering if anyone's working on any kernel mods for this tablet that's compatible with the stock ROM, or if there's even a Stock-based ROM coming for it that'll be compatible with it.
I don't trust going with any of the GT-P#### ROMs because I'd most likely loose cellular service functionality which is why I specifically got the T-Mobile version for cellular support.
Try this ROM .. It is a stock based one

Hmm, interesting. this is for the P5100, where-as I have the SGH-T779. The main concern I have with that is international version versus US version, T-Mobile support, LTE support (when it gets to my area).
I do have experience with rooting my devices, ROMing them, even hacking some pieces together to blend my own ROM as it were, but not a whole whole lot in cellular devices like this. This Tab 2 is the first cellular tab I've had, I got it so I didn't have to worry about where I was, I'd generally have internet access so long as I had WiFi or cellular data service.
I will try it after I insure I have good backups ready, and available on my microSD flashing card, if you still think that won't be an issue.

I'm in the market for a used 7" Galaxy tab. I want to be able to flash ICS on it so naturally I looked at which devices have ICS ports already posted in the development section.
It looks like those that have ICS support also have cellular data (which I don't need.) so I started looking for used Galaxy Tabs with a cellular modem.
I found some decently priced Sprint Galaxy Tab 7" and the Tmobile Galaxy tab 7". but it looks like these are not considered to be P1000 so will they work with Cm9/ ICS?
Also, how is the GPS chip in these units? I have a Galaxy tab 8.9 and the GPS is the best I have ever seen in a tablet/phone with a full lock in under 3 seconds.
Tmobile galaxy tab 7" is SGH-T849
I am using one that I flashed with Overcome 4.1 ROM with JPZ modem and using it in Australia
It becomes exactly like a P1000. I can get 3G/HSDPA speed, I can make and receive phone calls, everything like a P1000.
thank you for the response. Have you tried cm9?
CM9 has been ported to the Sprint Tab, (in fact to the Verizon tab as well,) the kernel is not perfect at the moment, so while the Tab won't be bricked, you may experience a few more issues than if you had a GSM tab. Bear in mind, both of these are in alpha, so they have issues. As with any Alpha, Beta, or work in progress, things will not be nearly as smooth as they will be once the rom is in RC (release candidate) or final. Also, you will probably want to keep tabs, (no pun intended,) on the rom's progress and keep flashing newer versions to get enhanced functionality and stability.
Here are the two posts in the dev section about ICS on the Galaxy Tab. They are both the same rom, they are created and worked on by the same devs. They just represent different stages of development. I would suggest reading through both:
The Current Work in Progress:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385153
(This seems to be the more current build)
The Alpha 3 Version of the above ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322059
(This is updated with each new Alpha, rather than on a rolling basis like the thread above)
I've never had any trouble getting a GPS lock in my Sprint GT7, I have on occasion used it as a GPS navigator (via Google Maps Navigation,) while in rental cars. It never steered me wrong, (pun intended.)
I hope this info makes your choice easier. Good Luck!
Thank you. Lots of good information.
If you haven't bought one, and don't mind paying a little bit more, I think you should get the GSM version (usually the T-mobile one is a bit cheaper?).
You see there are a lot more custom ROMs on GSM than CDMA, so more choices.
I think mainly because GSM is widely deployed worldwide, so we get more devs participating in that hardware.
I haven't used CM9 on my T-mobile tab, but I am 100% sure it will work. Just haven't taken the plunge.
Yeah, I'm trying to find the GSM version but the cheapest I've seen is $275 used.
The Sprint version is readily available for around $200.
This is going to replace my Pioneer navigation unit in my car so audio out via the dock is important. It will connect to a 4 channel amp. Reliable GPS is a must.
I have an 8.9" Galaxy tab which I love but it's too big and expensive to put in the dash permanently and there is no easy way to make it removable at that size while still making it look decent.
A 7" original galaxy tab is the perfect fit. Even the 7.0 plus is slightly too big.
Anyway, I'll keep looking for a cheap SGH-T849, one is bound to pop up at some point.
Hello
I just bought a 7.7 on Verizon. Primarily for SD Card & LTE. But I have major issues with lag on my training videos. I think if I upgrade to ICS this might help. I know Verizon is not releasing anytime soon....
Any suggestions? I Have been searching for 2 days now and just really confused. I really dont want to return this thing. I also bought a Nexus 7 and have had no issues with lag but the 7.7 is so much nicer (expect the lag)
thanks
Do visit this site and find P6800 ROM http://www.filefactory.com/f/16e5683c3e667a17[

You have a Verizon tab. It's a different model, with different hardware. The 6800/6810 firmwares will not work for you. In fact, they will probably brick your device. Do NOT Download any file for the international, GT-P6800/GT-P6810!!!
Over at the development forum, you will find CM9/CM10. Those are independent from Samsung/Verizon, based on Google's ICS/JB code. They are currently the only choice of ICS+ for the Verizon model.

You can use iocerra's cm9 and cm10 builds for ics and jb, but they don't have lte so that might be a deal breaker. Or you can root, install titanium backup and freeze/remove some apps to see if you can reduce lag. Or you can wait. All good options, depending on what you want / need.

Hi guys,
I think it's worth starting a separate topic for running CyanogenMod on the N7105 since we're clearly not getting our own section any time soon. I think there is a LOT of push behind getting CM10 running on the N7100 and this seems to be now progressing nicely with only a few bugs remaining. The problem is, us N7105 owners (LTE version) have been left running TW which I don't know about you but I absolutely DETEST!
As such, I figured it would be worthwhile getting all of the N7105 owners in one thread and see if we can hack together a method of getting our radio working properly on this wonderful ROM! There is another topic regarding creating a 'flashpack' but this focuses primarily on TouchWiz which isn't something I'm interested - switching TW to TW? Why bother? What I want is to run AOSP/CM on this wonderful device and enjoy the wonders of 4G with that lovely screen without all the samsung bloat and hopefully in tablet mode!
My current thinking on this is (and I intend to try this a little later today):
- Flash CM10 (N7100) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968949
- Flash our stock radio - backup original radio before flashing any firmware
- Flash Perseus N7105 kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852
It would be interesting to get a complete list of what we've tried and what has/hasn't worked - that way we make it easier for both ourselves and any developers who decide to take a look at this and they can at least save some time! I did talk to 'imilka' (dev of the CM10 port) and he said he will take a look when he gets the time so that's promising at least!

Sadly that's the conclusion I came to too - ah well, was worth a shot. It looks like part of the problem is the build.prop differences which is easily fixed. There was also mentions of differences in the paths for certain files as well as missing files for LTE usage. It does sound like this should be a very simple fix if we can compare the differences between stock N7100 and stock N7105 - surely combining the two should produce a working ROM. Then it's just a matter of finding out which specific parts are needed to get AOSP rocking.
It's a shame the stock Samsung kernel for the N7105 wont work with CM10. Any kernel devs fancy helping us out with this one?
I will compile an AOSP kernel for N7105 soon, however, it's not just the kernel, and i'm not really sure there's an easy way that you would expect to exist

Well the current N7100 kernel does work for us - its likely just missing a few modules for LTE (if at all.)
certainly appreciate you looking in to this though!
I assume that the fact our network lock details are stored differently, and the associated dialer hidden functions don't work are link to the fact that a n7100 leaves us without signal even with our radio. I also imagine any fix would help in identifying what files needs to be changed to remove network lock.
Overall I get the imprssion our device is more similar to the USA lte versions which would be unsurprising.
I was looking into how to root, deox, etc the stock rom but I dont hace Linux running atm.

That makes sense! Hopefully we can 'rally' the devs to help out - we already have one helping! It's just a shame that all we need is a few tweaks (possibly in the form of a flash-pack) and we'd be good to go and start enjoying CM10! If there's one thing I can't stand it's TouchWiz, bloated junk IMO!

You can root and deodex stock roms in Windows with cygwin and to make it even easier, you can use dsixda android kitchen.
Have to admit, I do find it extremely strange that Xda Developers forum has opted to ignore the existence of the N7105. It's very popular over here in the UK and elsewhere in the world and is set to get even more popular as LTE is adopted in more places around the globe. Would make getting developers to notice us a lot easier if we had our own forum IMO! >_<

Yeah man. sad case is that development for this phone model is zero to none. We are able to root n use perseus kernel bt for the only difference btween n7105 and n7100 is just the LTE and none of the roms are available to be used. Felt so left out coz of the issues in the radio firmware just coz one is lte n the other is not.

While I do appreciate that - I'm not really keen on running any form of TouchWiz on my device. I just absolutely detest the modifications Samsung made to AOSP - CM is really the ideal setup for this phone. It also means we can run true tablet mode which on a Note 2 is a fantastic experience.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble but unless N7105 becomes the only Note2 available and distribution exceeds that of N7100 the development for this device will be as limited as it is for the I9305 compared to the I9300.

With the i9305 there is a flash pack as far as I'm aware which allows you to flash i9300 ROMs and simply flash a flash-pack and i9305 kernel to allow you to run custom ROMs. This doesn't yet exist for the Note 2 and I'm not really asking for anything outlandish here - I'm just asking for CM10 on the N7105 *and* I'm even willing to throw money at this to make it happen. May be worth raising a thread for us N7105 owners to donate to developers who are supporting our device actually since while N7100 development is wonderful it doesn't benefit us in the slightest until we have a patched kernel, etc. to support AOSP/CM10 on our devices.

I'm not aware of such thing unfortunately...maybe I missed it in the I9305 forum?
I think the case was with the S2 I9100T variant where you could just replace the modem with your T modem and still flash any standard I9100 rom.
There are many similarities between the two variants I bet, but as it turned out the I9305 doesn't have FM radio. It might not be the most important thing in the world however it points to how different the devices might actually be.
That's the same difference as the N7100 and N7105. The FM radio was replaced with an LTE radio it seems.
Have to say though, its a small price to pay for the 26Mbit speeds I'm getting from mine!

I ask because last time I took the time to do one for the Verizon SGT (the original 7 incher) there wasn't that many interested "customers"

True.. I'm past all that at this level and it would just be the time invested. Sounds like it's not worth it. Heh
If you did an ICS rom and left the samsung video player in it and added ntfssd (from google play) or compiled your own kernel that would use exfat or ntfs (TWRP supports exfat) for large file support I would test it.
Keep in mind ICS has been done, but If you could figure out how to port kitkat to the device that would be awesome. Kitkat is supposed to have great memory management. The galaxy 7.7 only has 1GB of system memory HC ran fast on it but ICS is a bit of a dog even with bloat removed and tweaks applied. The port of PAC rom to the i815 gave me issues due to incorrectly signed files in the rom.
I haven't checked the general section on this forum for a long time but yea I still use my i815 quite often and the lack of stock development has been extremely disappointing. But there is a lot of driver work afaik particularly with the IR and LTE. I don't have a data plan on my i815 anymore but from time to time I may throw my phone SIM in there. Biggest thing for me over the other ROMs is having the function of the full hardware. I personally dislike touchwiz thoroughly with the exception of multiwindow features
So yea
I would definitely be interested there are likely a few others who would be interested but don't frequent this section. The i815 info thread I think still have a decent number of subscribers.

Hey, Guys.
I've had this phone for a while, now. I'm pretty attached to it. I'm pretty sure I have some 2 or 3 year old posts here about this very phone.
BUT...
I haven't seen any new support for it. I'm currently running PAC-ROM, but I'm still on jellybean and while I LOVE the rom, it can be a bit glitchy (blame Tyler). I've tried flashing plenty of roms for this thing over the years. i9500's, i9505's, jfltexx's, etc. etc..... I've even gone in and added my phone's model to the rom compatability list (I'm sure there's some other technical name for it, but hey). But nothing actually work works.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some snazzy newer rom for my phone? I don't wanna go back to stock just so I can have lollipop/marshmallow.
Stock sucks.

thanks for replying.
US Cellular runs on a CDMA network, while CSpire runs on GSM.
Meanwhile, T-Moble ALSO uses a GSM network (every other major carrier uses CDMA), but I believe that they use a different chipset.
