Hello,
I'm sure you are all aware of the very less storage space on the samsung galaxy s4!!
I was wondering if any of you tried apps like DirectoryBind or FolderMount to mount big folders (games, pics etc.) to the external sd card.
I myself tried both apps and none worked for me..
DirectoryBind use to work perfectly on my SG Note II, but on my i9500, it didn't work at all and I got reboots when trying to mount!
Then I purchased FolderMount, in hopes that it would work too.. But nope! That didn't work as well
I currently use a Class 10 Sandisk 64GB microSD card and I got it from amazon! And i've had no problems with it when I used it for my Note 2... I don't know why all of a sudden its not working.. Or is it the app itself.. Maybe they're not optimized for the galaxy s4 yet!!
Even for the folder mount app, I get the message, "Error: extSdCard permission - FolderMount couldn't fix the external sdcard permission and ownership. This could lead to read/write issues for apps that try to access your mounter internal sd card folders. Please try to remount all pairs after a while manually."
I have no idea what to do..
I don't know if this is a kernel issue...or a rom issue etc etc...
I was on WanamLite ROM v1.0 and I flashed the updated kernel that supported exfat cards!!
My card detects fine and I also have some out quite some stuff on it! Its only I cannot use any of the apps.
I really need to find a way, as the 8.5GB internal storage is just not enough!
Please help guys!!
Thanks in advance!
Directory Bind doesn't work anymore, only Folder Mount for Android 4.2.2
error
even folder mount is giving me error. something related to extSd card permissions...
i dont know how to fix it!!
maybe you need to format it, exFat is supported.
i did format it as well!! i have no idea why its not working..
i even tried genuine 16GB samsung microSD Card!!!
STILL THE SAME... Arghhh! this is getting annoying...
i cannot install most of the games i want... if i can, it has to be 1 or 2!!
I'm using AMDL build and AMDK kernel, not sure if this any help.

Is it a rom or just a stock firmware.. how did you root it??
If I cannot figure it out, I might give it a shot!

I have the same problem like roni2915, and I'm currently using AMDL build and AMDK baseband.
May I know which method did you use to root your S4?
i use the steps given here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258571
Event after root, under Device Status it shows Official
1) flash with I9500XXUAMDL_I9500OLBAMDK_I9500DXUAMDK_HOME.tar.md5
2) flash with Kernel_XXUADMK
3) flash with cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en and root it
4) flash with Kernel_XXUADMK
not sure if those were steps taken, but yeah finally it work. rooted with su 1.25 and did update and move all updated app to system.
did factory reboot and setup my S4 again - all went ok.

So I had stock firmware running rooted and using chainfires lag fix(ext3).
Today I tried to do the free sim unlock and it seemed to work fine.
Upon next reboot I kept on getting FC on all my apps, including launcher pro. Now I am getting a message saying that my memory is full and all the good stuff. I might have screwed something up when I was getting the blm3 file but my question is what is my best way to proceed, should I try to just revert back using chainfires exe or should I just use Odin and reflash the firmware.
If I reflash the firmware using Odin, how can I clean the internal sd card so I do not have remain of crap on it from the lagfix?
Thanks.
you could always get ROM Manager, and try a "fix permissions" it may help.....
can't install anything from market, freezes at starting download, also all my apps the built in ones show as 0 bytes space
I will most likely reinstall, too bad because everything was perfect before it all broke.

yes, both internal and external sd cards are mounted, I can see them in the "files" application and in terminal emulator

lol, dude. They're mounted on the phone not on the pc
wtf lol, i probably should have been more specific haha but yeah idk...
could you push the rom manager apk with adb? or you could try applying the lagfix again. I think your best options would be to either nandroid back, or better yet ODIN back, then unlock(you have the key), then root, then install all the goodies.
Maybe try reverting the lag fix? Is there an undo script for the particular lag fix method you used?

undid the lagfix and market was broken still, I ended up doing an Odin restore on my gf's pc (32 bit windows) x64 was getting stuck.
All in all not bad, and me being stupid, I am applying the lagfix again on the fresh install. Once I know how to do it, it's a cakewalk.
Thanks Peeps.
Hi Guys
I noticed another thread here on how to use your external SD card for apps only me being a noob it was far too complicated. I managed to find this video tho and tried it on my device and it works perfectly. You need a rooted device with Busybox and Script Manager to do this and then you will need to download this script and use Script manager to run this script at startup which basically swaps the internal and SD memory around so your device thinks your SD card is SDcard0. Video explains everything quite nicely.
There are other options out there that work too such as an app called Directory Bind, but this is way easier and much more reliable. With directory bind i was having huge problems trying to access the SD card or internal memory when plugged into my PC. Hope this helps.

do you the revert script again ?

Question. What size SD card are you guys using?
Can I add a 64gb SD card, on top of the 16gb internal?
so then I would have like 80 gigs total?

I used a 64 GB micro sd card. That became my internal storage (Sdcard0) while the original internal storage now shows up as (extSdcard) ( Which is approx 10GB ) so you can use it all but it will be 2 separate storage areas.
Just look at the OP's post, he has a pic of how your storage will be showing up.
I'm using FolderMount from Google Play to move specific folders to the SD card, seems to be working well.
The internal SD is probably much faster than the external, so I'd rather not do a full swap.

64gb SanDisk Ultra. Yes u can.
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda app-developers app
Hi guys.
I haven't watched the video yet... I just want to ask a few questions (and state my case) first:
I've just bought a 64gb SanDisk Ultra... I would like to use it as my internal memory as is described here... I have no intention of ever taking it out of the device.
Now my concerns:
1) I've never rooted a device before. I can get my way around windows and build a pc... that's about it. So I'm very nervous about doing this.
2) In all likelyhood I'll be staying on stock, so I want to be able to receive updates in the future.
3) I've already installed some apps to the internal memory... what's going to happen to those after I do this swap?
So what do I need to know?
Who's going to hold my hand in this?

hey man, I was in the same boat as you, never rooted anything before. you can root the note 8 by using framaroot. Its really easy and you can Install from the Link below and once rooted you Wont be able to do updates but you will be able to unroot when you would like to do an OTA update. I had to use the Samsung desktop application (Kies) for windows to apply the original firmware to do the updates. Not sure if you will need Factory reset but i did and I was able to update again. This is a software root and if anything goes wrong a factory reset will fix anything, that or just restoring your firmware, this also shouldn t void your warranty
the apps you have installed already will still work you just need to copy all the data on the internal across to your 64GB card (select all, copy and paste)
1 Install framaroot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1952450&d=1368232060
2. Open frama root and select SupesSu. Select the Aragorn method.
3. Reboot your device
4. Install busy box and open the app. Grant Su permissions and do the smart install
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
5. Now you are rooted and ready to follow the steps of this thread.
6. Use ur device to format the SD card

Had the script running for a while prior to a reboot last night....now smanager shows " sh: /storage/sdcard0/Download/app2sdNote2.bin: can't execute: Permission denied"...Don't know what happened??Tried deleting and reinstalling with no luck?? tried saving the download to the sdcard and the internal memory..neither worked??
This is great info and all but what happens if the sd card gets corrupt. Its a very real possibility as I have seen on AC it happens quite frequently. If the sd gets corrupted and that is where your android os file are now stored does your phone/tablet become a brick?

I wrote the hard to understand version of what's very much this process.
The gui is helpful, but you do need to know what the script is doing and what the script is to troubleshoot problems. It's not actually swapping all of your Android system onto the sdcard, to start with.
Your OS stays internal, and installer files for most of your apps stay on the internal memory. Applications write their data to the sdcard.
Gotchas with this approach include:
-your script needs to be executable by the process which runs it. When I first set this up there were issues around who owned the script and who could run it. If that's broken, you'll get the 'this script could not run' error.
- if you use one of the alternate roms, you will need a different script. Civato's kernel, for example, requires a different version of this script.
- I have heard rumors that 4.2 and above break this approach. Unknown by me.

This is the only part of the script in red when I view the log inSuperSU:
stdout redirected to /dev/null
Don't know if that clears things up a little?
you might try enabling adb and running the script from an adb prompt;
adb shell
cd /etc/init.d
find the script (probably called XYmount where X and Y are numbers) and
type
sh XYmount
That should give you fuller output of the error.

Since this is not a full swap to the sd card I think I am just going to leave it alone....don't want to mess around and risk bricking the unit. If I do decide to try the adb route I will let you know what I find. THANKS!

Thank you for the step by step instructions . I do have a couple questions before I dig into this method.
1 - You mean to copy all the internal sd card to the external one?
2 - the script was written for a Galaxy note II, would it work for the Galaxy Note 8?
3 - When you mention to download and save the script do SD card, do you mean the internal one?
4 - Did you write this script?
Thanks for your help. The lack of internal memory is my biggest issue with the note 8.
Yours,
Alex
Hello,
Can't get Locus and Tomtom working on my note 3
the Navigation programms are installed and are working fine, however it is not possible to get any access to the navigation maps
Already did the work around in this Topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617921
(is this only working for media or also data)
Also changed the path, where the Navigation maps are stored, even stored the navigation maps in the main storage
it seems to me, that the Navigation programs are looking for the navigation maps a non excisting map, or can't acces that map.
Anybody an idea, Tia
Hi,
I had a similar problem after flashing the official 4.4.2 ROM from Samsung, and applying the same fix.
I just used Root Explorer to move the whole TomTom directory from the root of the External SD card to the root of the internal SD, (NOT phone memory) and then it all worked with no worries.
Hope this helps you out.

Hi wiebew
Apologies for not getting back sooner, I've been out most of the weekend.
Just fyi, I had this problem when I updated to the official Samsung 4.4.2 (N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5_XEH). I'm running rooted using Chainfires awesomely easy to use, CF Auto Root.
This is what I did, step by step.
1 - Using Root Explorer, I copied the tomtom directory from the root of the extsd card
2 - I then pasted the tomtom directory to the root of the internal sd card. So afterwards it was /storage/sdcard0/tomtom. I may have rebooted, but can't honestly remember now, sorry.
I didn't have to change any permissions or anything else, after this copy/paste procedure TomTom started to work again.
I've since updated to the latest official Samsung ROM (N9005XXUENB3_N9005OXXENB1_XEO) and TomTom is still working quite happily.
Hope this helps, if there is anything else I can do to help let me know.

This thread will probably help you if you follow the points step by step. It´s originally written for the Note 3 but can be equally applied for the S4. If it doesn´t, then your SC card is likely to be broken and you´ll need to get a new one.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply but I don't think this will work, nevertheless I will try it an post the result here. My card is definately not broken because it works in my computer and in other devices as well.

KitKat disabled SD Card support for anything other than regular files. this means you cannot move apps to a SD card anymore, you have to roll back to a Jelly Bean rom, or use SDFix, run it, and then use Link2SD to move your apps.

What asus build version have you installed? Is a version number like 12.4.5.22
Had you inserted a micro sd when trying to backup?

Yes, it was inside as I booted to recovery mode.
I tried backing up with a micro sd and without one but gives the same error. The sd card us fine since the phone can read it and store stuff.
Try by changing microsd, using a formatted fat32 of min 2gb
I had your error when trying to backup without sd card

I'll do that as soon as I get another sd card.
Have you tried installing xposed framework on your A500KL?
Sent from my ASUS_T00P using XDA-Developers mobile app
I remember that I had tried it, but i don't like xposed so I had removed it

I finally got another SD card and it worked perfectly.
Which one did you use? I used xposed-v67-sdk21 to install via flashing and it bricked the device. Good thing I had a back up.
Edit: Found one that worked!!
