What is a decent price for the galaxy tab and is it laggy or a good tablet for $250
Sent from AT&T Galaxy Note (The Machine)
Well I suppose it's the cheapest 10.1 variant at that price, but nothing compared to tablets running on Tegra 3. There's some lag here and there, sometimes in YouTube according to many users. For that price, I would personally rather get a Nexus 7.
Thx....i like Samsung though

If you don't care about TouchWiz, you can flash CM10 and it'll fly.

If your getting it for $250 (which to me is something like £180 ) it sounds like a good deal.
You'll have to know though that its not as smooth as the newer generation tegra 3 tabs and it does lag a little. I knew this buying mine but did so knowing that as soon as a stable/complete CM Rom comes out, I'm flashing it.
Any one who has tried the recent cm nightlys notices the massive speed improvements & it completely removes most of the lag.
In short its a good deal, you will probably be disappointed in it when you first get it butt as soon as the TW crap is thrown out you'll love it.

Hello, this is my first post as I have just sold my ip5 and moving over to android. The poor performing maps and siri were the straw that broke this camels back. I don't have the time and confidence that apple may get it up to googles standard, especially not on a device that costs over £500.
I have never owned an android before but would love some advice as to whether my first one should be a nexus 4 or samsung galaxy S3.
I intend to use it for games and photos etc. so performance is a huge factor for me.
Thanks for all advice in advance.
I am selling my galaxy s3 for the nexus. The nexus is faster, smoother, will have better updates and also will have build quality closer to the iPhone.

Um well the Galaxy 3 is an old low end device. Not good at all. The Galaxy S3 however is a different story.
Both are quad core phones. So both should be plenty fast. We can't say the exact performance of the Nexus yet as it hasn't been released and the software is still in beta. The Nexus does cost only half the S3 so that's worth keeping in mind
*samsung Galaxy S3!
Haha Galaxy 3 is a very old android
Get The Nexus.
Wait until the N4 is in shops and then go and see both in person - the issue with posting here is that people are likely to tell you to go for the N4...Personally, I don't like the S3's design - the buttons are too low to be comfortable to use with one hand

The s3 has all the (potential) downsides of he N⁴ covered; removable battery, sd card, bigger storage and LTE. If (one/some of) these are important/crucial to you get the galaxy s3. If not, I'd say go for the N⁴.
P.S. AFAIK the s3 will take better pics, but IMHO the difference isn't big enough to warrant choosing it over the N⁴. This is based off of my memory of reviews, not personal experience.

Seconded, especially if we're talking off-contract.
Like others I am buying the N4 (currently have S3) and will likely be selling my S3 shortly after.
The S3 is a VERY nice phone, I almost have no complaints about the phone itself. For me the problem is myself, I get bored and want a new phone. Add in the amount of dev for a Nexus device compared to an AT&T locked phone, and getting updates first, I'm sold. Then tell me its only $350 vs the $550 I paid for the S3... well gee
I am actually taking a detour in between to try out the Note II or maybe even a Lumia 920 this Friday when they hit AT&T stores, but again just out of boredom / I'll make a little money on it (buying @ upgrade price and sell) and possibly to try out WP8 just for something different.
Nexus 4 IMHO :good:
Dude, we can't tell you what to buy. It's your choice.
If you don't mind Samsung's touch wiz and you want/need micro SD, removable battery, bigger screen, or 4g, by all means, go with Galaxy
If you want stock Android, up to date software and hardware, and you want that "nexus" experience, nexus 4 will suit you very well

Hey guys
Not sure where to post this, so feel free to report and move.
I am after a 10" tablet with Android O/S that has SIM card option, the purpose of the Tablet is for Google Maps only. I had a ASUS Transformer and the GPS was so bad I took it back (read reports of aluminium back causing problem).
The reason I am after a SIM card option, is to improve the GPS location; I currently have a Samsung S4 phone too.
Any help is appreciated.
Looking for Tablet Recommendation
As I was looking at the ASUS Transformer, I'll post my query her rather than start a new thread.
My ViewSonic gTablet finally died and I'm looking for a new 10" Tablet. The gTablet certainly had it's issues, but I liked it well enough once I found the right ROM. I'd like to know what the community would recommend for me.
Let me start by saying I'm a bargain shopper, but I'd rather spend $500 on something good than $250 on junk. I really would like to keep this in the $250 range and at the moment I can't go over $350. (The 32GB Transformer can currently be found for the low $200s)
WiFi only. No data plan.
I need a front and rear camera, and they should work with Skype. (I can live with just the front working w/skype)
HDMI out is very important, but not a deal breaker.
Powerful video processor
GPS would be nice, not essential
Strong ROM support from XDA
Milamber explictly asks for a SIM card. Are there 10" tablets that wouldn't take one?
Thanks for any and all input,
Andy

That's a phone, not a 10 inch tablet.
Check out the Lenovo S6000-H. We got one some month ago and it works quite fine.
how about note 10
Galaxy Note 10.1 3G & WiFi would be a perfect fit
I wonder how well updated a 8.4 (possibly LTE) will get regular updates. I had a 7.7, that I thought was a "premium" device, and I lost it before I could even put ICS on it. It started to lag, and lag and lag as new apps were updated and used.
So what do you think? Would this face the same fate as the 7.7 tab or the 8.9 tab, or more like the original 10.1 tab (which I think it was adequate and more in line with what I expect from a device.
Any input is appreciated.
As underwhelming as Android updates have been since 4.1, I don't think it really matters anymore. My Moto X got updated from 4.3 to 4.4... I barely noticed.

The 7.7 was Verizon I think. Anything involving Verizon will be very slow on updates. They are the worst at approving manufacturer updates and pushing them out. HTC leaked a final 4.3 for my former DROID DNA 5 and it took Verizon 5 months to release it.

All Samsung's high-end tablets starting with the N10.1-14 are running the same h/w and screen resolution. That's got to make coding updates faster and easier as so much is shared between them.
I'm optimistic that it will be different from the Tab 7.7 for a couple reasons. As mentioned above, the hardware and screen resolution is nearly identical across multiple devices this time, where the 7.7 was the only tablet with its processor and screen resolution (the Note 1 and Tab 7 Plus were the closest two. A phone and another low selling sparsely available tablet). The international version was updated slowly, but far quicker than the Verizon LTE version. However, I think it didn't sell well at all, was expensive, and was banned from multiple countries before or after its rocky unveiling (remember Apple had the courts remove it from the stand at IFA?). It became the best product that Samsung couldn't sell and therefore had little incentive to support it.
Not that I'm trying to make excuses for Samsung not supporting it, just that I'm logically hopeful this time around.

I still have a 7.7 and it's on JB4.1.2.
It's smooth as... AND twice as quick.
I remember the lag on the Default ICS ROM and I was very disapointed. Especially as I had an S2 with less power but it's UI was silky smooth.
Fortunately the was a developer UpInTheAir who kept the device moving forward. His first ICS Sky High rom for the 7.7 was a god send.
And now, if it were not for the Pro 8.4 I'd still want to keep my 7.7 with the JB 4.1.2 release available.
The point however to take from your comments is that WITHOUT xda community the 7.7 I would have been very disappointed. It would have stayed the best screen/worst OS tablet/paperweight device available. As it is now with this ROM it is a better alternative than for Apple iPad Mini 1st Gen.
I hope that the 'Tab Pro' given it's 'Pro' status Samsung keeps with the updates. (Given I've just ordered one)
Welcome to the world of Samsung. You'll be lucky if you get more then 2 updates or a year of support. They're in the business of making a quick buck then dump their customers to desolation.
Got the iPad mini. Samsung scares me too much. If I was going for the 10.1, okay, but the 8.4 may turn out to be not popular enough and will be forgotten.
I have a Mini Retina. Sorry but there is no comparison to the 8.4 Pro. Sure the Mini has a nice aluminum back (which you need to immediately put into a case as it scratches super easy) and a slightly more robust battery but that's about it.
The Samsung wins everywhere it matters, battery notwithstanding.
I'll put the two side by side and take some pics of the screen. The Mini Retina is much dimmer (my biggest beef btw with the LG G Pad) than the Samsung irrespective of what brightness levels you set it at.
The other biggie is the Micro SD slot. The Tab Pro + a 64GB Micro SD card (80 GB total) is about $160 cheaper than a 64GB Mini Retina. Plus the accessories are much cheaper (mind you less selection of cases).
Now that Sandisk has released a 128GB Micro SD for $120 that equates to a 144GB tablet for $200 cheaper than the 128GB Mini Retina.
Plus if you are an avid reader, you cannot beat the reading apps on Android. The closest is Marvin for IOS and its still barely usable.
Just curious, is tab pro 8.4 capable of making phone calls? and i mean real phone calls like tab 7.7
Buy the LTE version and you can...
seriously? any article or anything to support your statement?
im very interested to get the 8.4 pro but i need it to be able to make phone calls also

If you take a look at any reviews of LTE version then you can see Phone Application as well. And this fact is known, I' m waiting for the same thing...
hmm. so it's based on the picture of the phone application huh? okay2 ^^ thanks
Yeah i 'm also getting the LTE version to make phone calls
The reason the 7.7 didn't get a lot of support is due to it being banned in many countries so without them able to sell it they had no reason to keep it updated.

I ordered the 8.4 LTE from Hong Kong... it'll arrive in 10 days.
I use the 7.7 now as my phone. I'm expecting to use the 8.4 as my phone too.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE, Worth Upgrading?
Hi
Thanks for this topic.... above notes and comments. This has has been eating my brain for weeks....
I am also in this dilemma to, see actual comparison of two in terms of spec here:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/co...LTE,Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S-8.4/phones/6739,8663 (If im not allowed to add this, mods please remove link and keep post, thanks)
I wanted to know if it’s worth upgrading too or not, as I also used it for phone calls and video calls. I was wondering can the tab s 8.4 4G/LTE work in the same manner or are they different now? Also build quality on the Tab 7.7 is second to none. How does it compare to Tab S 8.4?
See that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 had the following available:
Tablet with support for GSM voice communication, SMS, and MMS
Does the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 have the same fate as the Tab 7.7. Meaning does it have the same capabilities of "Tablet with support for GSM voice communication, SMS, and MMS"
Does anyone know, if yes please advise. As I’m thinking of selling my tab 7.7 32gb Wi-Fi and 3G to purchase a tab s 8.4 WiFi & 4G/LTE…
Thanks
I currently have a tab pro 8.4, but I'm salivating for something that I should have waited for. How do we think this tab compares to the current ones? What does everyone think of the ps4 remote capabilities?

Yep. Have the tab pro 8.4 too. Wanted Sony, but the Z2 tab was too big.
This should be perfect. But my tab is pretty new.
It probably won't be available in India for a couple of months anyway.. Will seriously consider it.
I just saw a hands on video on android central. It looks like it would give me pretty much the same experience as my tab 8.4(aside from remote play obviously) . So the only thing motivating me now is my love for gadgets and ridding myself of this home button. ?

I need to see reviews first, especially the battery life... If GSMArena will rate the video playback for more than 10hrs, then it's golden...
Sub 300 ppi is a deal breaker for me.
Also priced at same level as Retina Mini and Samsung Tab S. However Samsung Tab S has 20% off code which is really its true RRP. Therefore this Sony is expensive.
Only positive is that it looks like it has a dialler. If so I would consider using this as my daily device over my Sony Ultra. (I rarely make or receive phones calls anymore as communication is usually through data).
I am considering this as a replacement for my Ultra. Unlocked SGP621 for me, I am already prepared for an imported unit since I am very skeptical against US availability for an unlocked, unbranded LTE edition. The lack of such information yesterday indicate a huge risk for a new Z2 Tablet LTE flop, aka carrier exclusivity, disabled radio bands and bloatware.
So I expect to buy it from either At GSM or Negri Electronics as I usually do (I got my Xperia Z half a year before a crippled T-Mobile version came and I also owned the Ultra for a similar length of time before they gave it a US release).
I made a mockup of the Z3 Tablet Compact yesterday and it could replace the Ultra without too many problems, it is just a few mm wider than the CP12 power cover I use. Since I read a lot on my device, big screens are a necessity and since it is a tablet, I expect fully operational 213 DPI as well with build.prop edit. The more I check it out, the more convinced I am about it as the "Ultra 2".
One thing I really hope is that they give it a proper keyboard cover, then it would also replace my TF700 as well. They had the BKB50 for the Z2 Tablet but cancelled it but I hope a "BKB40" will arrive for this new baby.
The dialer is also the key enabler as an Ultra replacement in my case as well and I am not afraid of buying an imported device. Getting it through a US carrier is just out of the question.
Well I just bought the Nvidia Shield Tablet, so I wont be getting the Z3 Tablet Compact... but I really want the launcher...
Definitely pre-ordering one as soon as the option is available in the US. I love my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, but the remote play option is too good to pass up. Not to mention the fact that it's waterproof.
Waiting for the price. It it's closer to $300 I might consider it other wise Tab S 8.4 for me.......
Have the Tab S 8.4. I'm just sick of Samsung's crapwiz and this stupid home button. I'm so tempted to get the z3 tablet, but I will wait for the next Nexus 8.9 I could get behind.

I'll be getting the LTE version unlocked @ ATGSM like E90 mentioned. Hopefully it'll work out to be my only device for 90% of my tasks (calls, texts, reading, browsing, etc.) Can't wait til Nov. 4th!
Also from the overseas pricing it looks like it'll be $499 for the 16Gb LTE version.
Will this have "tap-to-wake"-functionality? Does anyone know?
November 4th is the release date? Man that's far they all look so good shield tab s
I'm interested, as long as they have a 32GB LTE version. Too bad Samsung keeps screwing up their tablets. Now I have to wait....
Unless something more interesting comes along before then.
Look for it to be $399 in the US for the 16gb WiFi version. I have money already set aside for one. Been wanting a Sony 8" tablet for a while.

Hah it's funny how the first two posts mention the Tab Pro 8.4. So I got a Tab S 8.4 thinking it would be the ****, but I was disappointed by the performance of the Exynos CPU and Touchwiz, as well as the Knox counter, and how development for the device didn't look very promising. I got a Tab Pro 8.4 for comparison, which I like more than the S, actually, but...
I just had/have this gut feeling there's going to be better devices in the near future. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact (shoot whoever names these damn devices) is one such promising device. The other device I'm waiting to hear about definitively is the "Nexus 9" (if it's going to be called that), which is rumored to be an 8.9" 4:3 device.
Can anyone comment on how hackable I should expect this thing to be? I got a taste of a relatively dead development scene with these two Tabs; a far cry from my Nexus 4 which has tons of potential. I know that the Nexus 9 will probably be good on this front, but I've never bought a Sony tablet before.
I'm going to guess the nexus devices will always have the most active development because of how easy it is to unlock and go crazy. It's a little funny how few roms there are for my tab pro 8.4 considering how nice the hardware is.
I'm not seasoned enough to comment on the possibility of roms for these sony tabs. Evidently , nice hardware may not be a motivating factor. One plus, though is that it won't have knox. ?

That's not bad...not wonderful but not bad. Trying to figure out if waterproof is worth that much, or if I should go with a SHIELD Tablet.
So just heard it maybe white only 32gb for the US WiFi and lte version. Not sure why only white 32 but that's the latest info I am getting.
