"Is anyone having problems with the camera app? A few times now I have gone to take a pic and the screen is black like it is in standby mode but I can see the the icons around the screen it is like I have covered the lens with my finger but I have not."
phone is stock, fully up to date. I am able to get the camera app to work when I toggle between the black screen and the home screen once it displays warning camera failed. I did factory reset 3 times already...
anyone else got this problem?
Had that same problem on my first s4 and ended up having to exchange it for another one.

Woke up today to my alarm. Was going though emails when the screen started flickering. I rebooted the device and after a few more flickers it went black.
A little background - Phone is running Galaxy S 3 software. Didnt drop it recently or do anything out of the ordinary.
I can unlock it and it kicks back with vibration. I know it unlocks as then i can hear the volume key chimes when pressing vol up and down.
Could this be a power cable to the screen came loose? or am i screwed and have to get a new phone??
Any help would be very appreciated.
You could always try getting to the camera app, either through the lockscreen or the camera button. It should light up your screen then you could go change the brightness in the settings.

Yeah i tried that. The screen itself is just not turning on. Time to get a new phone i guess. I have ready horror stories about trying to replace them. I just wish Tmobile had a HTC device that i liked.
So after the last two weeks of using a blackberry,:crying:, i finally ordered a GS3. When i got it yesterday i decided to pull the SD out of the mytouch. Then the phone booted up with the screen working again!!! I have been playing with it all day and there are no more flickering or dead screen issues. Looks like i have a back up now. I still dont understand what was wrong or why it just decided to work after two weeks of being shut off.
So I was using my phone yesterday to take pictures of my computer. I tried on two occasions to touch and zoom in on an area (which worked fine) but as soon as I press the shutter button to take the picture, the phone would make a weird noise (seems to be coming from the lens?) then it just freezes. It eventually took the picture after the reset.
I have to hold my power button to get it to fully reset. Then this morning I noticed that my clock and date were all messed up.. set back to 1970 and time was reset.
Anyone else experienced this before? Nothing else is wrong with the phone but I'm not sure if this would be a software or hardware issue.
Thanks.
Yeah Ive had the camera app lock up a few times. Shutter button does nothing (didnt notice any sounds as I was outdoors), closing the camera app does not fix it, full restart is necesary but my clock worked fine at boot. Ive also had an issue where if you touch to focus and then swipe to see the gallery then the LED flash will stay lit indefinetly, forcing you to go back to the camera app and re-focus.
What rom / kernel are you guys using ?
Not sure if this is related but I've had the camera refuse to take pictures a lot, especially in low light - the camera cannot seem to focus so hitting the shutter button does nothing. I find switching to another mode (video for example) and then back again sometimes cures it. I've also had it lock up and leave the flash on. I'm surprised this got through testing as it seems quite a common issue from other N4 users I've spoken to.

+1 same problems here.

Same issue here too - just received mine 2 days ago and I sometimes need to change the camera to video mode then back to picture mode for it to be able to take pictures again.
Pure vanilla phone here, no custom kernels or any roms of any kind.. hell my phone isn't even rooted.. lol.
I've just started to notice that since I've been trying to take more pics with my phone lately.
And yes I've been seeing issues with the camera not wanting to take shots or focus properly either.
Same issues yesterday i was taking pics of my x-mas tree and gifts, suddenly the camera wouldn't focus anymore, had to restart the camera app, also auto focus is really not functioning too well... It can't seem to lock when focused on a subject...

For some reason my camera app turns on by itself sometimes, especially when my phone screen is off and i receive a text and my screen turns on. It is not S voice because it doesn't go through the S voice app.
Sometimes when I leave the screen on sitting on a desk, it turns itself up as well. Does anyone know what bug this is? I'm not rooted and using the original ROM. Im using the rogers variant note 3

Do you use S-view cover?
Is it possible that while hitting the power button to switch off the screen, you accidentally touch a camera shortcut and when the screen turns on, it opens to camera?

No I don't use the S cover or any cover for that matter. This happens right before my eyes. I don't touch anything and if I receive a text while my phone is on the table, the camera app turns itself on right after, but this doesn't always happen though. It's really annoying.

Camera turns on by itself
I have the same problem. In fact I just turned my note 3 on (after being powered down all night) and set it on the counter. As it powered up, the camera app started.
Using beanstalk Kitkat 4.4 uring calls my screen has been going black, when i hit the power/home button it comes on for a spit second then shuts off so I am unable to use my keypad... screen protector is not blocking the sensor, is there an option keep the screen on in this rom? I went into the beanstalk option and tried to remove the sensor proximity option but still getting thr same results. Any help is appreciated
Ill answer my own post as this seems to be an issue with galaxys. If you are having issues with your screen during calls its more than likely a proximity sensor hardware issue.. Had to unscrew the back and open the sensor area then spray with computer duster.. Fixed it immediately

I've recently purchased a Huwaei Nexus 6P. It's fantastic in every way including the camera... That is of course, when I can get the app to work. I use the camera to take pictures and occasionally video about 5% of the time. The app just hangs on the screen just before the viewfinder appears, and the only way to get the camera working again is to reboot the phone! It's incredibly frustrating, because everything about this phone is flawless! Anyone got any ideas?
you might have to take advantage of the warranty to get a replacement, if it persists, when i open the camera app on my Nexus 6P, i do not get that issue. however, i have only owned mine for less than 1 day. so we shall see....
BTW, i'm curious, does it still do that even if you double tap the power button when screen is off?
I've noticed that it only really does it when I come back from videoing something. It doesn't do it with the double tap the power button also, I don't think it's the handset, just the app I think
Mine acts a little wonky at times too. I tried to reproduce the issue you said you're having and can't get mine to do that, however mine does a few other weird things.
The camera on my phone takes a lot of double photos. I'll snap a pic and look through the photos quick and i'll see 2 of the same pic, but the google photos app only shows 1. If I delete that pic then both disappear from the camera app. I also get some pics that turn out as just a grey screen like the photo doesn't process completely. I've also had a few pics randomly disappear after closing the camera app. I'm really hoping it's just a buggy camera app.
I get the same issue as the op. But mine eventually says "cannot connect to camera" after 10 seconds or so.. Have factory reset a couple of times too..
Also my NFC of pictures from oneplus one doesn't work, 6p goes blank screen whenever I try to send...
Is there a way to take a picture while shooting video? If not, is there an app that you can recommend?
Unfortunately the camera situation is a bit beta-ish
