Thoughts on S4 wifi problems maybe solutions for some - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all I've put together a video explaining the current wifi issues some people have been having and offering some solutions.
Bottom line it's unlikely to be your S4 more likely the router that needs updating or replacing.

[Q] ***PLEASE READ*** Poll- Wifi/DNS issues caused by Nexus 7 2012 4.4 ?

Mods--I think due to the nature of this possible fundamental issue, it should be posted in the general section as well as the Troubleshooting forum area. Especially if it is affecting other devices in our homes...but if anyone disagrees, I apologize ahead of time if you feel the need to delete this. Otherwise sticky it!!
Full disclosure. I have the 4.4 160 update, not the very final patch that came out right after it, so it is possible that the patch secretly solved this issue. Also, I just bought my Nexus 2012...so I have no experience with 4.3 or 4.2.
I have an Asus RT66U router with the latest Merlin build and NO issues at all for months and months. It is commonly known to be the best router on the market (so is the AC version) . I have super finicky intermittent internet streaming on the Nexus 2012 Android 4.4, with YouTube buffering every 10 seconds and wifi signal boosting and dropping strength (it seems), but not disconnecting. I also had all of my other devices stop working around the same time I bought the Nexus (within the day I connected it).
I found a very interesting link as well-
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/PjerorpdZMA/LIJA7cToUiYJ
Right after buying the Nexus, I had to go into my router and change it's naturally acquired (by my provider) DNS, and put Google's DNS in place. I thought maybe the provider was having a DNS outage....I haven't put it back since then. But now I wonder (and I will check tonight).
So...here is the poll-
How many people, that have any wifi issues, are also having DNS issues?
Do you think this is a ROM issue.....in other words....did it happen with 4.3 or 4.2 to you?
Edit: Also I have heard of people disabling the NFC and taking off the back cover and reseating the wifi module (that is popped out a bit) and solving this issue... or changing the SSID, channel and password.

[Q] SG4 on CyanogenMod: Wi-Fi Tether Fix !?

Hey all, I'm experiencing an annoying problem that could become a major problem if I find no fix.
I'm on CyanogenMod ROM, 4.4.2, 11-20140210... Wi-Fi tethering is broken on CyanogenMod, that is a known fact; I'm looking for a fix, seems some people are able to implement workarounds. I have read like a hundred threads here on XDA and elsewhere, but still not sure what should I do.
Does anyone have this problem, and is there a reliable fix (besides changing ROMs)?
PS: this is not a phone problem or a provider limitation; I have been tethering for years with Galaxy phones on Fido... It's confirmed it's due to Cyanogen and something to do with IP Tables (whatever that is).

[Q] Poor wifi range LG G2

Hi all,
First post, hoping someone might be able to assist. I just received my international LG G2 and the wifi range is horrible. I have to be practically in the same room as the router to get a wifi signal. This is not an issue with any of the many other devices that we use around the house to connect including variius other samasung mobile phones and apple mobile phones or various tablets, laptops and game consoles.
Are there any settings I could try or is this most likely a faulty wifi adapter and will have to send back to the seller? I use wifi extensively so if this can not be rectified I can't/won't keep the phone.
Is this a common issue? Has anybody else encountered this?
Thanks

Can flashing baseband possibly fix WiFi?

Hello gents,
before you dismiss yet another S4 WiFi issue related post, keep in mind I am a Network Administrator for a living. What I do know well is wireless, what I don't is why my and many other's S4s are plagued with the WiFi issue.
If one is to search Galaxy S4 wifi problems, you will find a whack load of results with basic answers that don't resolve the issue. I am one of the lucky owners of a I337m Galaxy S4 that is a perfect phone, except the WiFi is absolute wonkers. My S4 is extremely inconsistent with being able to connect to 2.4Ghz networks, though 5Ghz is fine. I have attached a gif as an example of what occurs, though the signal is strong it refuses to connect instantly or gives "authentication error". There are good days, there are bad, but mostly bad.
I even gone as far as taking the phone apart and replacing the WiFi antenna with an external modified version, trust me it is NOT an antenna issue. I came across a youtube video of a fella with an i9505 who claimed to be able to fix the wifi issue by changing the baseband. This I would love to try though as far as I know there is only one baseband for the Canadian S4 if I read the forum posts correctly. At&t has a few which I wouldn't mind trying, but is it possible to flash the baseband from Bell to At&t (i337m to i337)? Would that even affect the Wireless functionality in the phone, or is it purely for the cellular network?

Galaxy S5 and the higher channels of 5ghz wifi

Hello all,
i'm sure i'm not the first to ask, yet i didn't find any threads about this.
my phone can't seem to connect to 5ghz wifi when the channel is a higher one (149-161). it doesn't even see the SSID. when I switch to the lower channels (36-48) I can see it and connect.
I would much rather fix this so i could use the higher channels where the signal is better overall.
any idea why this is hapenning? on my iphone 6 it works great when using channel 149.
I'm running 5.1.1 Fusion Rom rooted.
cheers!
Anybody knows ?
maybe it's a hardware problem?
i'm seeing this same behavior on SM-G900T (TMO S5) and other devices apparently due to missing country code and calibration files.
please see notes and upvote BUGBASH-2594 : 5ghz WiFi bands partially not seen as client and not available at all as hotspot
hopefully that helps bring together awareness of this widespread issue that seems to be easily overlooked (i mostly find myself using 2.4ghz networks anyway).
