Hey all, I'm experiencing an annoying problem that could become a major problem if I find no fix.
I'm on CyanogenMod ROM, 4.4.2, 11-20140210... Wi-Fi tethering is broken on CyanogenMod, that is a known fact; I'm looking for a fix, seems some people are able to implement workarounds. I have read like a hundred threads here on XDA and elsewhere, but still not sure what should I do.
Does anyone have this problem, and is there a reliable fix (besides changing ROMs)?
PS: this is not a phone problem or a provider limitation; I have been tethering for years with Galaxy phones on Fido... It's confirmed it's due to Cyanogen and something to do with IP Tables (whatever that is).

Hey i have a 32B UK Vodafone Magic running Cyanogens 4.0.4 stable rom and have had the magic for about a month now.
For some reason my phone randomly loses connection - both 3G and 2G, the drop down notification will just say "No Service" and will only usually restore if i turn on- and off airplane mode.
There are also often times where ill be browsing the internet or the market and while it'll tell me i have 3G/2G, it wont actually "connect" and download/upload data e.g. the market will often tell me it has no connection and web pages will randomly not load, getting the "webpage cannot be found"-like error for no reason. wouldnt be such a bother but it seems to be a daily occurance that spoils an otherwise amazing device.
Is this a common problem? does anyone know how i can solve this if a solution is available (i thoguht it may be to upgrade the radio but i dont know how and ive heard its possible "brick-territory")
hope you guys can help
Hi there, this is getting to be a well known issue on the Vodafone technical forums.
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25796&st=0&start=0
have you read this and posted there?
Would be good from some feedback on here too from "the experts"
I'm having the same problems with my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556843
So far, turning off 3G has stopped it, but that's not really an acceptable long-term solution...
as you say, disabling 3g is not a solution to the problem encountered considering the device and its expected use, its connectivity should at least e stable.
i did not know about the thread on the vodafone forum and read through all of the posts, there didnt seem to be any strict correlation between the other guys devices and the problem itself, some had diff radios, some likely had flashed roms (but theyre not exactly going to mention that on a voda forum).
thanks for the help regardless, i think im going to do some testing of custom ROMs and some of the radios/SPLs to see if one of them may fix it. though again i dont think its a probplem that can be fixed from a ROM/android update alone
I've been having this issue too, i've gone through multiple roms in search of a fix, none of them solved it though. . .
Are you guys having any other issues coupled with this? My phone also won't autosync email anymore. No notifications, then i'll check manually it will find a slew of emails from earlier in the day. It's set to check every 5 minutes, but alas.
same here with a vodafone magic. I have this prob not only with 3g even with wifi. Turning wifi/3g on/off solves this issue. Its annoying though...
Hello,
I've been using tytung rom with Android 2.3.7 for quite a while and I recently decided to upgrade to the new 4.1.2 rom (NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a). The rom is great and everything seems to work fine except the wifi. For some reason, the AP is almost always out of range, unless I'm really close to it. A quick search on google shows that apparently a lot of users seem to have problems with wifi signal and Jelly Bean (regardless of their hardware, with other samsung, htc, etc devices). Do you also experience these wifi issues with newer roms on HD2 ? Is there something I could do to improve that ?
Kind regards,
Sébastien.
same here ...
I am having the same problem, I also had it with the ICS versions
I tried many solutions nothing worked, after connecting to wifi, I get no internet conncetion, but if I did, it's very poor at speed no matter how close was it ... hope someone can help us with this soon
After some more testing, it turns out that my problem could be hardware related.
I'm now experiencing the same issue with gingerbread roms.
Hi there,
after being on MokeeOS Crazy Speed (Android 2.3.6) for quite some time I decided to upgrade my Defy (MB525) to the newer MokeeOS 4.2.2 RC4. The update went without any problems any I quite like the Rom, but there is a huge issue with the Wifi-Connection.
I see my Home-Network and can connect to it without any problems and I also stay connected to it, as far as I can tell, but there is "almost" no data coming through. When I say "almost" I mean, that for the first 3 seconds (maximum) after I turned the Wifi off and on again and the device connects itself to it, I get data and can visit e.g. Websites or even the Playstore, if lucky.
I had this particular Issue with the latest stable and nightly version of the Rom.
Maybe I just need to change some settings on my phone or my router to get it to work, but I couldn't find anything on this or other forums. I hope that somebody knows this problem and may know a solution to fix it.

hi,
I have on different occasions tried the miui roms on different devices i've had and now would like to use it on my i9505, i love the simple easy to use UI that comes with the rom but one thing that bugs me is that there is no ''national data roaming'' option in the network settings that comes with other roms like cyanogenmod and so on. And in ireland we use that feature like in other countrys in europe, I have trawled threw miui's own forum so many times and found no fix to this issue. Has anybody solved this issue with this rom or know where to find a fix if any. Sorry for the big long story :silly:
Any info appreciated.
Cheers.
Mods--I think due to the nature of this possible fundamental issue, it should be posted in the general section as well as the Troubleshooting forum area. Especially if it is affecting other devices in our homes...but if anyone disagrees, I apologize ahead of time if you feel the need to delete this. Otherwise sticky it!!
Full disclosure. I have the 4.4 160 update, not the very final patch that came out right after it, so it is possible that the patch secretly solved this issue. Also, I just bought my Nexus 2012...so I have no experience with 4.3 or 4.2.
I have an Asus RT66U router with the latest Merlin build and NO issues at all for months and months. It is commonly known to be the best router on the market (so is the AC version) . I have super finicky intermittent internet streaming on the Nexus 2012 Android 4.4, with YouTube buffering every 10 seconds and wifi signal boosting and dropping strength (it seems), but not disconnecting. I also had all of my other devices stop working around the same time I bought the Nexus (within the day I connected it).
I found a very interesting link as well-
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/PjerorpdZMA/LIJA7cToUiYJ
Right after buying the Nexus, I had to go into my router and change it's naturally acquired (by my provider) DNS, and put Google's DNS in place. I thought maybe the provider was having a DNS outage....I haven't put it back since then. But now I wonder (and I will check tonight).
So...here is the poll-
How many people, that have any wifi issues, are also having DNS issues?
Do you think this is a ROM issue.....in other words....did it happen with 4.3 or 4.2 to you?
Edit: Also I have heard of people disabling the NFC and taking off the back cover and reseating the wifi module (that is popped out a bit) and solving this issue... or changing the SSID, channel and password.
