[Q] Jelly Bean roms and wifi range issue - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
I've been using tytung rom with Android 2.3.7 for quite a while and I recently decided to upgrade to the new 4.1.2 rom (NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a). The rom is great and everything seems to work fine except the wifi. For some reason, the AP is almost always out of range, unless I'm really close to it. A quick search on google shows that apparently a lot of users seem to have problems with wifi signal and Jelly Bean (regardless of their hardware, with other samsung, htc, etc devices). Do you also experience these wifi issues with newer roms on HD2 ? Is there something I could do to improve that ?
Kind regards,
Sébastien.

same here ...
I am having the same problem, I also had it with the ICS versions
I tried many solutions nothing worked, after connecting to wifi, I get no internet conncetion, but if I did, it's very poor at speed no matter how close was it ... hope someone can help us with this soon

After some more testing, it turns out that my problem could be hardware related.
I'm now experiencing the same issue with gingerbread roms.

[Q] wifi problem solved?

hello there,
this phone is just released in my country. i would like to buy it but i found this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptg6cLdA9OU
is this problem common? is there any software to fix?
this video is too old (the rom is B133), i used both B135 and B136 now, with no Wifi probs at all
that's great. thank you.
I agree. I am also on B136 and no issues at all with wi-fi. Good Luck. I think it is a great phone especially for the price.
B136 is the pre installed ROM?
Or in other words: people that buy the Ideos X5 today will not have any wifi connection problems?
Obviously I can only speak from my experience with my own phone, but it came (3 months ago) preinstalled with B133 and did an update over wifi in the phone's update options and had no problems before or after the update. The update was about 3 weeks ago for me and I have been using the wifi almost every night since I go the phone. I am very happy with it
Can warmly recommend this phone, its great !
The price is nice, the quality is fine and the phone is getting a larger community !
If you find trouble with old firmware always update to the newer ones !
Grab them at Huawei and upgrade your firmware, they have a guide included on each firmware download pack you download.
Agree without doubt. I never experienced wifi connection problem. But only some education institute use PEAP encryption may post a problem with most Android, though not the phone itself .

unfortunately its the phone thats causing wifi dropouts in my case..
i can connect to my wifi router with my iPhone 3GS, my notebook, my netbook, my NDS, etc.. in fact X5 is the first and only device that has connection problem with my wifi router..
though i like this phone very much, i can honestly say that wifi problem does exist, at least in certain instances including mine..
So it has been established that this phone sometimes has wifi issues. The question is; can they be solved? and how? anyone got any experience in that area?
I'm on B136 and WiFi is still broken. B136 seems to have made Wifi connections a little bit more reliable, but it still drops out pretty regularly, usually when I try to update more than one app at a time from the Market. In the middle of the downloads it stops because the WiFi has become disabled and has to be restarted again.
It's less of a problem when there's only one update to download, but if there's two or more it happens quite frequently. It also still sometimes happens (though perhaps less frequently than before B136 was released) while it's not downloading anything, just sleeping (I have it set to not disconnect when asleep) or awake and connected to my WiFi network.
The unreliable WiFi connections are one of the two worst problems with this phone (the other one is the wildly variable battery life).
Nobody has a definate solution to this problem?
Is it part of your insurance btw? it is clearly malfunctioning and perhaps should be fixed by the company you bought it from...
i am using genokolar's b137 and wifi is fine ( i had problems before with stock 135).

Where are you download this custom rom? I only find one V8 in chinese forum. Is this, you'r talking about? Is this multilangual?
yep this is it!
every android version is multilingual!
thats his latest version:
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-3177723-1-1.html
also use the google apps (GMS) from here:
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-2875088-1-1.html
be sure to have this installed before doing anything:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130524
if you find it hard to download them from there i have uploaded them here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IMZBGHIA (use the gapps that are inside this rar)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3DOP0APD (use this rom)
i have removed some apps he put in there (like nofrills[something like set cpu], a chinese market etc) to make it a total stock rom. just be sure the 1st app you install is Superuser.
I did some tuning to my wifi configuration file and that's all I did to solve connection problems. Just take a look through my thread in the general section with subject title "Wifi Client Tuning ... Solve Connection Problem "

[Q] Poor wifi/3g signal

I am experiencing relatively poor wifi signal. Has anyone else experienced this with ICS roms? My about screen shows the following:
Android 4.0.4
ICS333-2.0.1
3.0.8-Semaphore_ICS_1.2.2s
Baseband I9000XXJVU
Overall ICS is working really well, but the wifi is not so good. I get the feeling my mobile reception is lower than it used to be too...
Any ideas?
Cheers

I used FXR wiFi fix and rescue !:good:
I'm facing a related problem.
I have the obtaining IP address problem. I have tried moving back to stock ROM, Wi-Fi fix and rescue, Static IP and different modem. Sadly, I haven't found the solution yet.
Do you know how I can tell if the problem is with the hardware or the software ? Any advice is appreciated.

defy, cm10 and isyncr wifi

anyone else use this combo ? isyncr works on the phone via usb cable, cant get the wifi version to work. any tips ?
Yep
Having the same problem with CM10 and iSyncr. Only works over USB cable, not over wifi. Had the same problem in CM9. iSyncr Wifi hasn't worked since CM7. If anyone has a solution I would be grateful.
Moved to Q&A. Please post all questions there.

I'm having the same issue. After exchanging a couple of emails with their support the problem continues unresolved (and with no clue onto how) even in their latest version
I managed to sync via wifi (pc version) once every few dozen tries, but my last successful attempt was almost a month ago
RUnning CM jellybean and I can't get it to work via wifi or USB - really kind of annoying. and thier tech support is non existant. no matter stock rom or any other rom, nothing works.

After more emails exchanged with one of the devs, I made a lot of tests (trying do get the app to work on a number of combinations of ROMs/OS and and detailed it to them. If this will ever make the app work properly I can only hope
On a possibly related issue, anyone here that reposted this problem with isyncr also have a bug were the wifi disconnects after every few Mbs downloaded (either via file download, app updates, normal navigation, youtube, etc) and the wifi icon is still displayed as if it was connected, and mobile network doesn't kick in if it was turned on beforehand?
Because this is also a wifi related bug that a only very few users reported on the CM and MIUI JB threads. Could it be a bug in a specific stock ROM kernel used as base? What SBF file did you flash (or where is your phone from, in case you didn't flash a Different SBF)? My had a Brazilian retail SBF

Don't hold your breath, I went through this exercise over a 3 week period for the developers to just tell me there was nothing they could do about it, so I gave up using this product altogether.
did this ever get resolved ? still doesnt appear to work for me
Nope. As far as I managed to communicate with developers, they couldn't figure it out, and CM10 users seem not do stumble upon this bug (plus an uncommon combination of Device+ROM+app) very often, so it's a bug that gets no attention
iSyncr is working with latest CM10! I don't know for how many builds since it's been a while I last tried to use it, but I can sync music via wifi now

[Q] MokeeOS 4.2.2 WiFi-Connection Problem

Hi there,
after being on MokeeOS Crazy Speed (Android 2.3.6) for quite some time I decided to upgrade my Defy (MB525) to the newer MokeeOS 4.2.2 RC4. The update went without any problems any I quite like the Rom, but there is a huge issue with the Wifi-Connection.
I see my Home-Network and can connect to it without any problems and I also stay connected to it, as far as I can tell, but there is "almost" no data coming through. When I say "almost" I mean, that for the first 3 seconds (maximum) after I turned the Wifi off and on again and the device connects itself to it, I get data and can visit e.g. Websites or even the Playstore, if lucky.
I had this particular Issue with the latest stable and nightly version of the Rom.
Maybe I just need to change some settings on my phone or my router to get it to work, but I couldn't find anything on this or other forums. I hope that somebody knows this problem and may know a solution to fix it.

[Q] 5GHz wifi and AOSP

My i9505 has been misbehaving when trying to connect to 5GHz wifi since the 12th of October, when I flashed the then-newest official Cyanogenmod 10.2 nightly; before that it had been working with any problem on those same nightlies. Something must have been introduced between then and the 2nd of October; I didn't do any flashing during that time as I was abroad on business, so I'm not sure exactly when the change might have been introduced. Since that time I've moved to a 4.4 ROM but the problem persists.
It seems that I'm not the only one having problems with 5GHz wifi on AOSP ROMs - Google turns up various problems on different ROMs and devices. There are even suggested solutions such as editing text files in /system/etc/wifi or changing one's router's channel. None of these work for me.
The symptoms vary. Some of the time the device will simply refuse to connect to 5GHz networks. Other times it will connect and work normally for a time, anything from approx. 1 minute to 30 minutes or more (the latter making me think for a while that the problem is fixed). But, eventually, apps will stop getting a network connection and I'll be unable to ping anything. Despite this total lack of connectivity the wifi indicator will show that the device is still connected to Google's servers. Turning wifi off and on will start the cycle again, until I give up and switch back to 2.4 GHz.
This is rather frustrating and I wonder if anyone has any clue what it might be, or how it might be investigated further.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yes, i have similar problem. i changed few custom roms, and nothing helps. First, it works normal, for few minutes, then wi fi go automaticly off, and then i cannot connect to wi fi network
I noticed this on 4.3 all versions, but since I updated to 4.4 official on my i9505G, the problem went away. I think it may be s bug in the NON-HLOS in the 4.3 roms .. official or otherwise.

I think it came in on 4.3, and I wonder why it is still affecting me on 4.4 as some people are reporting that has been fixed.
When official jfltexx CM11 nightlies come out I'll try a clean flash to see if there's any change.
I decided to try something similar - I updated to the latest UK firmware and then did a clean flash of an unofficial CM11 4.4.1. 5GHz Wi-Fi still doesn't work properly, as above.
I can get better results within a couple of metres of the AP.
