[Q] Poor wifi/3g signal - Galaxy S I9000 General

I am experiencing relatively poor wifi signal. Has anyone else experienced this with ICS roms? My about screen shows the following:
Android 4.0.4
ICS333-2.0.1
3.0.8-Semaphore_ICS_1.2.2s
Baseband I9000XXJVU
Overall ICS is working really well, but the wifi is not so good. I get the feeling my mobile reception is lower than it used to be too...
Any ideas?
Cheers

try a different kernel or modem. use CWM. I've tried different modems, eventually settled on ke7 which worked well for me.better wifi reception and call reception.

I used FXR wiFi fix and rescue !:good:

I'm facing a related problem.
I have the obtaining IP address problem. I have tried moving back to stock ROM, Wi-Fi fix and rescue, Static IP and different modem. Sadly, I haven't found the solution yet.
Do you know how I can tell if the problem is with the hardware or the software ? Any advice is appreciated.

WiFi Problem

Yesterday after bricking my phone, I recovered it by going into download mode and flashing gingerbread 2.3.4 XXJVQ but I've noticed that now I'm getting much weaker wifi signals. I only get full bars if i stand like within 5m of the router and I've checked with my other cell phone to check if the router is fine, which it is. So is this like some problem with gingerbread and is there a fix ? Thanks
Try another ROM, maybe a custom ROM... ?
I'd be willing to flash another rom but can anyone confirm if it will fix my problem. Thanks

Wifi problems with latest rom ICS, an idea!!

I notice that a lot of users have problems with "death sleep of wifi" on the new ics rom.
So i remember that when Samsung Italia roll out an update to 2.3.6 (KK1) a lot of users experiencing same issue as ics or even worse.
Then samsung italia sudden release the xila firmware to resolve these issue.
The issue coming from the fact that several models of I9100 have the wifi chip from
Murata Manufactoring
So everyone that have this issue should go on http://hwaddress.com/ and paste his mac address found on Settings -> Info -> Status
I try but i have one from Samsung Electro Mechanics
Mine is from Murata and I am experiencing some problems with Wifi
The only solution is to wait for a new firmware?

The objective of this thread is to establish if the issue is hardware related.
For now is only +1 to Murata
Well I have a Murata chip but I do not experience Wifi issues.
I have Murata and didnt recognized any issues with Wifi?
What exactly is the issue about?
Well i'd like to know chip version of People that HAVE THE ISSUE.
Not those that have not it
In anycase issue is that wife toggle stay forever with connecting...and the only solution is restart.

Exactly what happens to me. It does not happen very often. I would say it happens once a week, but it is still annoying.
I suspect that it could be something related to when you enable or disable WiFi with the 3G connection enabled. The WiFi icon freezes and the only solution is to restart the phone.
Another thing is that I used to connect to my MacBook through WiFi using GingerBread without problems, but now with ICS the WiFi disconnects from time to time.
Mine is Samsung Electro Mechanics and have the wifi problem since upgrading to ICS. Basically, sometimes I will turn wifi off but when I turn it on again it won't do anything until I reboot and only then will it connect. I think this is the same issue being experinced by many. I think its just an ICS bug with SAmsung's releases. Hopefully future releases will fix it

So it is not a privilege of Murata's
So it seems not hardware related :banghead:

Are you guys having this problem all the time? Mine is random. I could go most the day turning wifi on and off and not have the problem and then all of a sudden it will not be able to turn on. I am on LP4 build
I had this issue while on ICS, now back to GB. I have Samsung Electro Mechanics btw...
The problem was random and sometimes I was able to get over it by turning WiFi Direct on and off for a few times.
Hey there, i have Murata, i had the issue.. untill i switched to the latest siyah kernel (later then 3.0.1) since then the issue is gone, give it a try!
i have the murata chip, i am using lps and i was forced to move the router to wap only, in security settings of the router, in order to connect to the wireless network
i have murata, and i had that problem when I installed the second beta of ICS
and so far, no serious problems with wifi, nothing that a change of modem does not solve
The only thing i did with the Hydrogenics ROM, i disabled the 'Network notification' in Advanced (wifi)

unfortunately the modem is not related at all to the wifi functionality...
Wifi is handled by the kernel (library) and the rom (Drivers)...

Weak Wifi Reception

The only issue I am having since updating to Ice Cream Sandwich on my a500 is with a weak wifi reception. I have no issues at all with connecting to the router, but the signal strength is much weaker than under Honeycomb. Is anyone else having this problem? I have tried this with different routers but the same result. I have already done a factory reset which did not help with the reception problem. Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

From what I've read the a500 has weak wifi all around I have noticed one or two bars more since the ics update :-\ I'm planning on replacing the antenna to see if it helps any....I heard its the metalallic back on the Acer but not how true it is...do you have the officiol ota or a rooted version?
I've noticed the same problem. Can't surf from my couch anymore...
Same here, just about 15ft from the router. Weak signal and got disconnected all the time. Signal was great before the ICS update.
I've been having the same thing happen to me since the ics update
+1 more to that list.
as you mentioned, I do find that became a problem for me. It was working fine before.

I adjusted my router and added a hawking antenna and can surf from the second story no problem.
Very strange problems on leakage 0.004 for A501 with WiFi there, although the core of their essence do not differ much. As an option, I would advise you to put the Linux shell to manage WiFi (dd-wrt), there is a function of gain WiFi signal.
In general, it is a hardware problem, because on Russian portals surprising number of complaints about this problem, I think in the near future, Acer will fix this bug.
Same problem too.
Worst wifi signal on my ICS.
Hope to settle it soon
Ditto - same here as well. Used to be fine, not great but just fine. My Skyrocket right next to my a500 show 10 to 15db more signal than wifi analyzer on the a500. I'be even upgraded to Amped Wireless high power router and 12db gain antenna. My Skyrocket can work the AP in my neighbors house, but the a500 barely work around the house.
Wifi before was ok, not great. Now its worst than before, cant get signal went laying on my bed anymore. Wifi on all phones are strong. downloading via googleplay is fast while acer is super slow.
-acer ics ota
-build #: acer_av041_a500_1.033.oo_pa_cus1
Router running N only mode. WZR-HP-AG300H
My experience is opposite: I had constant disconnection with hc and all is good now.
I also had less than stellar wi-fi on my A500 before ICS, but has actually gotten much better after ICS.
I usually had only one bar on my LR couch, now have 3, sometimes 4. Always have had some kind of little symbol showing occasionally over top of my wi-fi signal, but signal was so weak, I couldn't make out what it was, now, with stronger signal, I see it kinda looks like the microphone symbol, why is it randomly showing up, even though I am not using the microphone?

[Q] Jelly Bean roms and wifi range issue

Hello,
I've been using tytung rom with Android 2.3.7 for quite a while and I recently decided to upgrade to the new 4.1.2 rom (NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a). The rom is great and everything seems to work fine except the wifi. For some reason, the AP is almost always out of range, unless I'm really close to it. A quick search on google shows that apparently a lot of users seem to have problems with wifi signal and Jelly Bean (regardless of their hardware, with other samsung, htc, etc devices). Do you also experience these wifi issues with newer roms on HD2 ? Is there something I could do to improve that ?
Kind regards,
Sébastien.
same here ...
I am having the same problem, I also had it with the ICS versions
I tried many solutions nothing worked, after connecting to wifi, I get no internet conncetion, but if I did, it's very poor at speed no matter how close was it ... hope someone can help us with this soon
After some more testing, it turns out that my problem could be hardware related.
I'm now experiencing the same issue with gingerbread roms.

[Q] 4.4.2 wi-fi issues

HI, I've got constant wi-fi issues on ma nexus 4 4.4.2. It certainly isn't the hardware, I got a replacement and the problem persists, which annoyed me cos all my photos cos messed up in order . anyway my wi-fi always disconnects and doesn't connect, this keeps on happening. im on a dual band router. is this only on 4.4.2? this problem only started happening in the last month or so. as far as i know it doesnt happen with other networks but when my wi-fi on my nexus drops, it doesn't drop with any thing else in the house. thank you
p.s. - i have a feeling it may be to do with something about the dual band. also the problem doesn't persist on my iphones, does this happen for you too?
was on paranoid android 4.2 beta with matr1x now on complete stock though

In your phone's Wifi settings, select either 5.0 Ghz or 2.4 Ghz and see if it helps. Also, try to search for Wifi fix by Kalo in the Development Thread and then flash it in recovery.
