Optimus G screen Better - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I have an Optimus G along side my Nexus 4 and haven't been able to match the Optimus G screen colors with the Nexus 4.
They run the same hardware yet the G has a much nicer picture. It is even nicer than the HTC One's!
I have Franco. Kernel updater installed and have tried a few calibrations but to no avail. Is there any hope?
Ps don't flame me going on about how the Nexus is best, it is not.

Ah come one! try to be nice hahahaha. Actually LG has several software display adjustments not implemented on Nexus 4 due to Google.
May be some day they port it to Nexus 4. Nothing so far.

The Nexus 4's color's are a little washed out IMO, but since you have the Franko.Kernel updater, I'm going to assume you are rooted and have a custom kernel like Franco's or Faux's kernel. In that case, increase your saturation values in small increments until you're comfortable with those colors. If you're on stock kernel, I don't think you can expect too much, unless you flash one of PA's calibrated kernels.
Short answer: Yes there is hope. And there have been solutions to tackle this for quite a while. Just look around the dev forums.

Actually haha hope is diminished. The Optimus G has a higher ppi than the nexus 4. My friend just told me and it makes perfect sense because the Optimus G has a sharper screen.

Nexus4 is the best and the screen is vibrant with most custom kernels! Get over it or sell it.

Pretty sure they are the same screens, same ppi.
With the FKU app there are a whole set of example colour profiles, but you have to hit a menu item to load them up. You will probably be able to find one that you like, and then you can tweak it a bit further if you want.

The two phones have identical screens (In fact, most of the hardware is identical). The only difference is that the LGOG has different calibration. I don't know the exact calibration, but I know that the faux kernel has an option to set it to the OG calibration (LG presets). I just use the halfbreed calibration that I tweaked a bit on my Nexus, and it looks great

I'm not questioning your opinion on the colours but the screens are definitely the same model so you thinking the OG has a sharper display is probably just a placebo effect due to the colours. Since have the same displays you should really be able to match the colours using franco's app. Aside from the iPhone 5's screen I haven't seen a screen that has better colour reproduction than my N4's. Then again, I haven't seen a One or a OG yet either.

My eyes dont lie. Ive been using both and the Optimus G is more of a pleasure to use.

That may well be true, but I can guarantee that the OG's screen isn't sharper. Better calibrated maybe, but definitely not sharper.

Well about Nexus 4 VS Optimus G maybe Optimus G is better but the HTC One (Not One X) should have a way better screen...

While you may like the image better, sadly the eyes are the ultimate liars lol. I do home theater and HDTV calibration for a living, 10 years going...and I there isn't enough time in the day for me to tell you how horrible most people have their HDTV set when I get there, or while I'm calibrating ask why it isn't brighter or why did it look so much better in the store Lmfao. I always give the customer what they want but with the advice that having your screen at 9000k is not giving you the most true representation of the intended image but to each their own. I assure the same thing is happening here with your phone

Nexus 4 screen vs Optimus G screen?

I just saw the Optimus G for the first time, and surprised at how dim the screen was. Color accuracy was ok, but I compared it to my Gnexus with both at 50% brightness and I was surprised to find that it was slightly dimmer. Compared to other IPS+ screens that I've seen, I was really shocked to see how dim the Optimus G's was. Has anyone seen how it compares to the Nexus 4's? I'd assume that they're the same, but I just wanted to check.
Physically, they're the same. LG may have calibrated the OG's differently, though.

Lg optimus G display better than my Nexus

Hey, I work at a cell shop and I compared the Optimus G screen to my Nexus 4s today. The blues were so much more vivid on the Optimus, it was strange. I thought both had the same hardware. Could it be the software?
I think I saw a kernel before with screen controls, can somebody link me to it?

Search and read?

Could be software, as there have been reports of loss of color quality when installing a recent OTA update for the Nexus 4. Custom kernels can change the color balance, and Google itself may fix the issue later as well. The hardware itself should be the same
We should let Google know and make them tune it better

Just got a nexus

Is it me or is the screen washed out?I am also using a htc one.also anyone find it laggy

Yeah I do find the screen colours washed out and too much red compared to the colours on my Asus PB238Q or my Xperia T. I might try to modify the colours with the franco kernel app.
I assume you're comparing it with the HTC One with the Nexus 7. Don't do that. The One has newer tech while the N7 is using much older tech and such. It has less ram and a slower CPU than the One. The colors of course will be slightly different. You havent seen washed out colors until you see a fully stock Nexus 4.

It really is an apples and oranges comparison. You're comparing LCD to S-LCD, 1.2 GHz Tegra3 to 1.7 GHz Snapdragon, and 1 GB RAM to 2GB RAM.
so i've been playing and it's fantastic don't know why i waited so long to get one.

Better colors on 4.3?

Was watching a review of 4.3 and the reviewer stated this version of Android seemed to really improve the colors/calibration of the N4 screen...
Anyone else notice this as well?...
°N4°
Yes its a known change that happened in 4.3 where they adjusted the colors.
I still prefer custom colors but it is definitely a improvement from 4.2.
Yeah I feel it's ok in my eye and I dont calibrate it

It's better for me... And screen is much more brighter now.

Colors do not look better at all . Not to my eyes anyway ?

Same, they look mostly the same to me. Not great anyway, even if there is an improvement.
Look somewhat better...
I was taking some pictures yesterday and then held up my phone showing the picture I just took side by side with the real scene, the colours were very close.
I'm guessing a new thread is required for every single detail about 4.3 then?
I mean, it's not like there is a DISCUSSION thread for 4.3 out there already.
Oh, wait, there is? Hehe, silly me, right?
Looks better for me, screen is brighter also.

Wouldnt matter to me as i always flash franco anyway
Colors are the same for me as they were on 4.2.2, I don't see any difference.
N4, stock 4.3 + franco
I counted 7!! 7 threads about the same topic= OS 4.3!! Just, why would you do that?
same colors for me. no difference.
Placebo??
It's like a common syndrome in the iOS/Apple community. Every time after an update, people will tell you that "safari feels snappier"
I compared cloros on a device with 4.3 and 4.2.2 side by side. With same pictures displayed. I didn't notice any changes. The only changes I've noticed was by update from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2.
I don't know of its because I'm using to using franco.Kernel with custom colour settings, but when I briefly used 4.3 I couldn't see any difference.

I loaded up the new N7 wallpaper on my phone (4.3) and my wife's phone (4.2.2), both N4's, brightness at full and at auto. Findings were... They were EXACTLY THE SAME...
So, yeah, no difference... At least to my eyes.

Nexus 7 2nd generation FHD display

I got mine today from Amazon uk and I must say that I am a bit disappointed from the screen. I watched many reviews and all of them were talking for one of the best displays out there. Well they probably haven't seen Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 super amoled + magic. I will post a video later on with both devices playing a trailer from imdb.
Don't get wrong here. I love it but it just can't display black. Period.

I compared the display on mine with my wife's iPad4 with the retina display and I think its just as good if not better than that. Plus at this price point you cant go wrong.

I couldn't agree with you more. The Galaxy tab was retailing at 700 us while the nexus a fraction of that. However the amoled display on my "old" Sammy tab 7.7 is out of this world. The black and the color reproduction are just stunning. I was used to that display and the gnex looks to me a bit washed out. Other than that is is really great.

I suppose he is talking about the colours?
They are a little bit washed out and the white is a bit yellow when compared to my nexus 4 that has francos gamma settings applied.
However, when gamma controls are ported to the Nexus 7 the screen will look great with some tweaking.
Guys you do realise this screen is one of the few ones actually calibrated in the factory at two different stages and that the colours are accurate. What you see in the unfortunate Samsung models etc is a screen just with ridiculously saturated unrealistic colours. You guys need to train your eyes to see real quality...

400% saturation doesn't make a good screen
