Nexus 7 2nd generation FHD display - Nexus 7 (2013) General

I got mine today from Amazon uk and I must say that I am a bit disappointed from the screen. I watched many reviews and all of them were talking for one of the best displays out there. Well they probably haven't seen Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 super amoled + magic. I will post a video later on with both devices playing a trailer from imdb.
Don't get wrong here. I love it but it just can't display black. Period.

But of course everyone knows that Samsung make the best displays out there and nothing else touches them lol.

Get your eyes checked. You may be going blind.

There's the link. Enjoy. For argument's sake I am not going to tell you which is which although it is really easy.

I compared the display on mine with my wife's iPad4 with the retina display and I think its just as good if not better than that. Plus at this price point you cant go wrong.

I couldn't agree with you more. The Galaxy tab was retailing at 700 us while the nexus a fraction of that. However the amoled display on my "old" Sammy tab 7.7 is out of this world. The black and the color reproduction are just stunning. I was used to that display and the gnex looks to me a bit washed out. Other than that is is really great.

I suppose he is talking about the colours?
They are a little bit washed out and the white is a bit yellow when compared to my nexus 4 that has francos gamma settings applied.
However, when gamma controls are ported to the Nexus 7 the screen will look great with some tweaking.

Guys you do realise this screen is one of the few ones actually calibrated in the factory at two different stages and that the colours are accurate. What you see in the unfortunate Samsung models etc is a screen just with ridiculously saturated unrealistic colours. You guys need to train your eyes to see real quality...

400% saturation doesn't make a good screen

Nexus 7 Screen Calibration?

I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times but I figured I'd ask to get an up to date answer. Any news on possible color calibratin for the Nexus 7? I just got mine and while I'm really enjoying it the screen is badly calibrated. I'm not bother by the washed our colors as much as I am bothered but the high gamma/contrast. Anything bright seems over exposed and it hurts my eyes to set the screen brightness higher than 50%. Thanks in advanced.
Asked already and the answer is no. Calibration is apparently not supported by the GPU.

How can something so simple be so hard to obtain lol. Even my Nexus S had calibration capabilities through VooDoo sound. So disappointing lol. Ah well. Guess I'll kiss my retinas good bye!

[Q] Any Nexus 4's Without Backlight Bleed?

I've already tried out 3 brand new Nexus 4's, and they all exhibit light bleed around the top right corner.
I know, I know; I'm being obsessive or nit-picky. But, just humor me for a second, and chime in on the topic....
Anybody got a Nexus 4 without any lightbleed whatsoever? You should be comfortable around 30-50% brightness and have no uneven backlighting around the top border....
Does a perfect Nexus 4 even exist?
Thanks fellas
No bleeding here

No bleeding here mines the first batch HW Revision 10 :good:
No such issue here.

No idea what you're talking about. But maybe I'm not OCD enough.

I swear my Nexus 4 is the best phone I've had! Better than the SG3 and the One X I've owned! BTW no light bleed on mine.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Minor light bleed at the top & bottom.. although it is very minor. I really have to try to see it. I would say for a normal person, they would think it has "no light bleed". But to us perfectionists yes it's there.
I know this is asking a lot, but would someone with a perfect device mind posting a pic with your brightness turned up with your notifications dropped down?
No bleeding here either and I'm on Rev 11
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Lots of light bleed here in the top right corner. Nov 2012 version, rev10
Don't really care though.
No bleed and I bought mine at an insanely bright tmobile at sunset.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Maybe for some of the people who say they have a perfect device, just dont notice it or their brightness is too low..
someone, please, put my OCD worries to rest and snap a shot of your phone with no lightbleed with the notification dropped down with at least 50% brightness.
I will be in your debt.
Is this what your looking for? Sorry I'm half ass sleeping right now.

Thanks for the effort.... but taking a screenshot takes a shot of the software... backlight bleed is hardware..

Yeah I do find the screen colours washed out and too much red compared to the colours on my Asus PB238Q or my Xperia T. I might try to modify the colours with the franco kernel app.
I assume you're comparing it with the HTC One with the Nexus 7. Don't do that. The One has newer tech while the N7 is using much older tech and such. It has less ram and a slower CPU than the One. The colors of course will be slightly different. You havent seen washed out colors until you see a fully stock Nexus 4.

It really is an apples and oranges comparison. You're comparing LCD to S-LCD, 1.2 GHz Tegra3 to 1.7 GHz Snapdragon, and 1 GB RAM to 2GB RAM.
so i've been playing and it's fantastic don't know why i waited so long to get one.

Just got mine!

Oh my, finally an Android tablet that doesnt feel like a downgrade from an Android mobile phone.
Nice lcd screen, nice weight balance, nice keyboard and most of all so smooth, exactly like the Note 2 I had before.
I'm not a big fan of Touchwiz but on this tablet it actually seems to make more sense than in a phone.
I've wasted a lot of money on Android tablets, hope this one lasts me for a while lol!

Yeah just found I have bad light bleed. I'm going to try to get it replaced. It's only annoying when watching videos though.

In portrait mode top left on about 4-5cm and top right side 2-3cm. Shop wouldn't replace it... It's true that in normal use you don't see it, only with dark movies. My Tab2 was as bad or worse but on the 10.1 screen it wasn't so bothersome.
If it bothers me I will try to send it in under warranty.

I dont know I'm living with it for now. Fact is that when you flex the tablet the whole screen goes black or white so probably there is something with how these tablets are built. Also if I press at the spot the light bleed disappears...

Welcome to the club! While I was very happy with mine out of the box I'm getting a lot of pleasure out of tweeking the performance and trying out different apps to take advantage of the stylus (in between playing a shed load of games that wouldnt run on my old tablet).
There is no need to open a new thread because you bought the tablet. Imagine everyone who buys Galaxy Note 8.0 to open a new thread.
Thread closed.

pixels viewable?

I love the new Nexus 7 screen but I'm curious if you guys can still see pixels if looking closely...specifically at the keyboard buttons....its not a big deal I'm just curious as I heard some reviewers say that you can't see any on the 1080p screen
sure can if you want to go blind from the brightness of the screen. better off trying to find pixels looking at the sun
Considering that there are 2,304,000 pixels in the screen (that's quite a few in such a small display), just look at the number and call it good! :good:
Or consider that this tablet has a higher resolution than most tv's..
Can u count them for me please? ... I want be sure you got all pixels.
