Better colors on 4.3? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was watching a review of 4.3 and the reviewer stated this version of Android seemed to really improve the colors/calibration of the N4 screen...
Anyone else notice this as well?...
°N4°

Yes its a known change that happened in 4.3 where they adjusted the colors.
I still prefer custom colors but it is definitely a improvement from 4.2.

Yeah I feel it's ok in my eye and I dont calibrate it

It's better for me... And screen is much more brighter now.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

Colors do not look better at all . Not to my eyes anyway ?

Try putting on the new nexus 7 wallpaper. It looks gorgeous!

Same, they look mostly the same to me. Not great anyway, even if there is an improvement.

Look somewhat better...

I was taking some pictures yesterday and then held up my phone showing the picture I just took side by side with the real scene, the colours were very close.

I'm guessing a new thread is required for every single detail about 4.3 then?
I mean, it's not like there is a DISCUSSION thread for 4.3 out there already.
Oh, wait, there is? Hehe, silly me, right?

Looks better for me, screen is brighter also.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Wouldnt matter to me as i always flash franco anyway

Colors are the same for me as they were on 4.2.2, I don't see any difference.
N4, stock 4.3 + franco

I counted 7!! 7 threads about the same topic= OS 4.3!! Just, why would you do that?

same colors for me. no difference.

Placebo??
It's like a common syndrome in the iOS/Apple community. Every time after an update, people will tell you that "safari feels snappier"

I compared cloros on a device with 4.3 and 4.2.2 side by side. With same pictures displayed. I didn't notice any changes. The only changes I've noticed was by update from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2.

I don't know of its because I'm using to using franco.Kernel with custom colour settings, but when I briefly used 4.3 I couldn't see any difference.

I loaded up the new N7 wallpaper on my phone (4.3) and my wife's phone (4.2.2), both N4's, brightness at full and at auto. Findings were... They were EXACTLY THE SAME...
So, yeah, no difference... At least to my eyes.

I think on 4.3 have better blacks

[Q] Any Nexus 4's Without Backlight Bleed?

I've already tried out 3 brand new Nexus 4's, and they all exhibit light bleed around the top right corner.
I know, I know; I'm being obsessive or nit-picky. But, just humor me for a second, and chime in on the topic....
Anybody got a Nexus 4 without any lightbleed whatsoever? You should be comfortable around 30-50% brightness and have no uneven backlighting around the top border....
Does a perfect Nexus 4 even exist?
Thanks fellas
No bleeding here

No bleeding here mines the first batch HW Revision 10 :good:
No such issue here.

No idea what you're talking about. But maybe I'm not OCD enough.

I swear my Nexus 4 is the best phone I've had! Better than the SG3 and the One X I've owned! BTW no light bleed on mine.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Minor light bleed at the top & bottom.. although it is very minor. I really have to try to see it. I would say for a normal person, they would think it has "no light bleed". But to us perfectionists yes it's there.
I know this is asking a lot, but would someone with a perfect device mind posting a pic with your brightness turned up with your notifications dropped down?
No bleeding here either and I'm on Rev 11
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Lots of light bleed here in the top right corner. Nov 2012 version, rev10
Don't really care though.
No bleed and I bought mine at an insanely bright tmobile at sunset.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Maybe for some of the people who say they have a perfect device, just dont notice it or their brightness is too low..
someone, please, put my OCD worries to rest and snap a shot of your phone with no lightbleed with the notification dropped down with at least 50% brightness.
I will be in your debt.
Is this what your looking for? Sorry I'm half ass sleeping right now.

Thanks for the effort.... but taking a screenshot takes a shot of the software... backlight bleed is hardware..

i use both my n4 and gnex, but keep the sim in the n4.
I loved my GNex but my N4 is leaps and bounds better. I can't think of any reason I'd go back.
Why?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
As fan of nexus series can't see any point to return on Gnex (I had it before n4). Just my opinion.
No.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
No real reason why just asking.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Have both. But N4 is my major, I barely touch my Gnex or Nexus S now
No ways that I am going back
not even in my wildest dreams...hell no
My GNexus died. It was great device, i mean it provided great user experience in spite of really average specs (like very poor GPU). I think optimization in case of ti-omap was relatively more advanced than it is in case of snaprdagon s4 pro maybe due to ti's more open policy. Gnex cannot measure up hardwarewise to N4. It can hardly handle more demanding live wallpapers without lag. Its screen is the biggest flaw -grainy, horrible horizontal banding. But still touch responsiveness and scrolling experience is very smooth. To be honest I preferred stock browser experience on my gnex than the one provided with n4 and chrome. Just pinch to zoom and scroll. Literally, heaven and earth difference. But that's the end of gnex's advantages over n4 I noticed so far. I completely disagree with those criticising our lcd-ips screen. It's awesome! I really don't feel the need for 1080p screen. And... 2 GB of ram + 1,5 GHz x4 krait. Why would I downgrade to Gnex? N4 is all I need

Android 4.3 camera problems (2 so far)

Hey guys,
am I the only one who's not entirely happy with the new camera in Android 4.3.
The first thing i noticed is that many of my photos seem to be a little more washed out than they used to be.
And the second thing: Whenever i take a photo sphere with my N4, the corresponding location is not saved to the picture. No matter if location is turned on/off in the photosphere settings.
Does anyone have an idea for fixing these issues? Or at least for the second one? Or have you noticed similar behavior?
Thanks in advance
I don't have those. For me the camera seems taking better pictures than 4.2.2 and flash seems stronger. But I think camera has become a bit more slow in starting.

I noticed the washed out pictures as well compared to 4.2.2. 4.3 has too many problems. I reverted it back to 4.2.2.

You check these washed out pics on other monitors? It's probably just the colour on your N4, not the camera.
^^ nope. Its not the screen colors. I used PA 4.3 version which has screen calibrated colors.

something I said offended you or unusual?
I trade pics with my wife. She has an HTC One X. Pics she takes that look good on her phone don't look as good once they are on my phone. Pics that I take that don't look so good on my phone look much better on her phone. Colors are more vibrant on her phone no matter which camera was used and colors on my N4 do look washed out no matter which camera used.

I had the same problem with the missing location. Just go to Google settings and enable location access for Apps under the location settings... After that the camera stores the location again..

[Q] nexus 4 camera

We all know that N4 has a very bad camera..specially in low light photos..photos have very much dots..They seems good on mobile but when zoomed even a little its pathetic.
Was anyone able to find out what the issue is..? is it software or hardware..?
If its software related than is there any solution..?

Low light noise, no tap to snap picture, horrendous flash photos.
It's just not as good as the Galaxy S2+ I was going to sell.
The camera is the biggest disappointment for me as a one week N4 owner. I'm seriously considering selling the phone.
I tried the Moto X apk, which seemed to be a little better on the noise front, but I can't live with that aspect ratio. "Focal" was even worse than the stock camera.

No We are just expecting a decent camera..coz i think its a make or break feature for a smartphone..accept it or not..camera is not good enough on N4. And please i was just asking a question, its not about what i expect.
Just FYI i have a DHD and its camera is great..even in low light
agree camer not good..but it depends on what u use most..it is subjective..for me this is a perfect phone for daily driver

I just wanted to know whats causing this Low light Noise..i love the phone and i am using it from last 6 months..but if someone could figure out the root cause than i guess it could be solved..
I don't in any way think the N4 has a terrible camera. The pictures of takes for me at least are clear and sharp.. Way better than my S2 and honestly look just as good as my brothers Optimus g and NY wife's Note 2..
Not sure what your talking about..

Yea, I concur. I'm able to take great pictures with this phone. I'm not sure what the issue is. I mean I did come from the Evo 4G to this though, that phone had so many camera issues so I guess anything is better.
After reading around the subject, the only thing I've that gives me any hope is someone suggested using Snap Camera HDR app and fixing the ISO at 100. I'll be giving it a try in the hope of reducing noise in the pictures my N4 makes. Ta-ta, PmT
I am not expecting a 5DmkIII quality but I was expecting the camera to be as good as the one on my Galaxy S2 Plus (also 8MP).
My camera works great for a phone.

I think the camera is not bad but not the greatest either. What I hate about it is that you HAVE to tap the screen to take a pic. Is there a way to enable one of the volume buttons to take a pic or something?

you dont have to tap the screen. long press the shoot button until its focused, then release. or in 4.3, you can hold down the down volume button then releae when focused.
btw some recent photos..
This phone sold for $200, of you want better camera you're going to have to shell out more money for other phones with better camera.
If you want less noise in low light shoot with iso 100. Or get n HTC One.

I find the calibration is a tad bit better than JB. Can't confirm with proof though as it just looks better from a users perspective.
