So, what works. What doesn't? Glanced through the thread and heard people saying that camera is not working on the current build, and then with the latest build only working with non-stock camera app? [instagram?]
Also how is the battery life, performance compared to the stock..
For a start, it would be great, if you could include such FAQ's in your OP.

This is a development area.
Meaning if you have created something fixed an error then this is where you post. if you have questions please make a topic in the General section this area is getting filled with junk and multiple post asking things that have been posted if you would just learn to use a button we call the search bar at the top right.
I'm not the mod on this Device but as a dev for this device I want to keep things clean unlike all the other areas. I want people to look as the development area and be like ok thats a rom or recover or root and not have to ask questions.
Next is when in a topic please keep on topic. a few topics are 90% junk because people not staying on topic. DONT make posts that say "I hope this is fixed soon or I'm going to get rid of this device" GROW UP go do some reading and help to to make a fix.
I have to add my 2 cents to this. It's really nice if people other their help and discuss things but sometimes threads have to stay clean in order to be helpful for other developers. So please think about if it's really necessary to add your stuff. Otherwise please use the general section.
If you help the developers to do their stuff quickly we'll be able to write how to threads faster for you guys.
Personally I'll pick only a few persons for testing. This will result in less bricked devices

Maybe link the [DEV] thread to a [DISCUSSION] thread in general section so noobs like use can talk about the development of a given project and not actually post in the [DEV] thread itself.
Also, I wouldn't hesitate to report a post or thread to the mod. I'm not sure how active he is here but it could use a little cleaning.

its a good idea but if people have a question since we dont have a questions area like other forums it needs to be in the general area. or they need to learn to use a search bar/engine. im just tired of pms/email/threads that have been answered already.

You would think by now with how prevalent forums are for all aspects of life, people would know how to use the search feature.

What I meant, exactly, was say a developer starts in on a project - they start their development thread and in the first post, add a link to a discussion thread in the general forum:
[DEV] My project Title
This is my project explanation.
Link to [DISCUSSION] Thread.
So basically, you start you [DEV] thread. Then when you're done, start a [DISCUSSION] thread then link the two together. So noobs, right from the first post, can see the link to the discussion thread. If someone posts a question or chit chat in you [DEV] thread, have it moved to the [DISCUSSION] thread.
I know, it's not ideal, just a thought.

This actually sounds really good to me. The only kicker being what is considred on topic and what isn't? Are testing successes and failures relevant to a dev thread? Only successes? Only "breakthrough" moments? To be determibed by an elite group of our super-dev peers? Determined by the original poster?
Its a very subjective issue, dependent on the knowledge level and/or experience of the poster and reader both (or simply based on what one is hoping to find at that moment as compared to how disappointed one is by what they do find instead).
It could also get really complicated really fast.
Ultimately thats up to the OP.
The whole point is that a dev thread can only stay as clean as there are ways to do it. At least with a seperate (though connected) discussion thread, it can be directed. If someone posts in the dev thread, it should be up to that threads OP whether or not it can stay or be moved- at least now there would be a place to move it.
BUMP!! cause people dont like going to the second page. STOP making questions here this is for DEV's that have something to make the Iconia better not hi can i do this. go to the GENERAL AREA
I am not a developer, and this is the only post I can see myself ever posting here.
I enjoy reading this section like I'd read a detailed tech news site. I know that these same people also read the general section, so I can benefit from their input there.
Here, this section, this is their place to work! They share ideas here. They make things happen here. Aside from this post, I never want to clutter their desks, because I benefit so much from their hard work!
Is there any way to just make you guys permissible to post? Maybe you should have to be a dev to post? All can read, but devs would contact the mod to post? With a Discussion Thread linked in that environment, I could see a solution.
I still want to read. Its valuable. But aside from this post, I have no reason to write here. Butt every reason to watch progress, for my own education and to see what might be round the bend
anyone can be a dev. it just means u fixed a bug or made something happen thats what this section is for not hey can some1 help get you tube working or something like that.
doing another bump to keep near the top
I think we need to identify what is wrong in our subforums and have someone step forward to be a new moderator. Things are getting out hand in here and its making me sorry to say this a part of XDA. Here are problems I've seen:
Stolen code (This includes Thor's GPL noncompliance and ProTekk's kanging of his kernel)
Subfactions either for or against Thor.
Useless trolling and personal attacks due to the above.
Too much useless clutter in the dev section (giggle* I'm blond and random stabs on the dark on subjects of development)
I know a lot of this is pety but this all happens far less frequent in other subforums. We are losing a sense of community and teamwork. A lot of it has returned since the ICS leaks but I think we have a lot to improve.
Keep this thread civil. No one user is the root of the problem. This isn't for blaming but finding a solution.

Do you not have report post button in the top right corner of every thread post . The trouble with this forum is people Complaining in public forum about what they dislike about other people.IF you feel someone is posting SO MUCH TRASH AND TROLLING . You should use the report abuse. You say this should apply to everyone But you Go out of your way to QUITE MY OLD TAG LINE.
This TYPE Of thread only adds to issues YOU ARE Complaining about. The biggest thing that causes trouble is Replying in a thread THERE IS another useless post. USE THE REPORT abuse link as im going to do Right now. Before this becomes another FLAME War. STOP QUOTING ME AS Being a issue on this FORUM.

You wanna see teamwork?
Look at the bootloader and ICS threads.
Or look at Vache's ROM thread for the last 100 posts. See the "Jerry Lewis" telethon.
Then post your comments. And I will thus... shoot you down. Metaphorically of course.
No offence but this thread is only a trouble maker.
Closed.
Just an innocent question.
The three threads already here should be in the "Android Development" forum as they are about Android kernels.
This Forum seems redundant, or at very least lacking unique purpose.
I suggest that what's here be rolled into N7 Android Development, so that both readers and posters aren't confused about what belongs where. If not, the mods who created this forum ought to make clear -- in a sticky post -- the differentiation between what belongs in "Original Development" as opposed to "Android Development"
(.... unless someone knows something I don't, and there's a plan to port WebOS or Symbian to the N7 )
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/ - here is the announcement on the portal!!
The dev section will be full up with rom after rom after rom... Most roms will only have small differences between them... I think this is a good move from the mods... Although, it can get a bit confusing, and we now have to check another place...
Anyway, I suggest you try to get this moved to q+a, as it isn't "original development"...

@OP: Is this thread needed?
I some what agree with the OP. Only because this is a nexus device. So wouldn't almost 95% of all development for a nexus device "original development"? I could see this for the Samsung Touchwiz or HTC Sense device threads, because alot of those roms are just .zip hack jobs.
I concur with OP on this forum... It is basically just another dev forum, except now instead of 1, I need to watch 2 forums. Not really a big deal, just more of an irritance. Seems like the same thing could be accomplished by a regularly updated Sticky topic in regular Development that tracked all notable software for the Nexus 7 without needing a superfluous forum.
Maybe the android dev thread could be in the Original android dev thread? Like on android central.
I kinda like how you can sorta find what your looking for... but it seems quite confusing also at least for a while .. watching two forums now .. ugh

Well, that defines the first three threads in this forum, all about slightly-derivative kernels, yet are here because the devs think they're original. So I'm not the only one who hasn't read the split rationale.
What this particular split represents is a choice of two forums based on a totally subjective criteria -- whether it's "original enough". Will there be a litmus test -- like what percent of AOSP has to be replaced -- before something is considered "original"? And how does that split really help people find what they want in terms of features, maturity, etc.
I agree that splitting up a crowded dev forum is a good thing to do, but believe that doing it based on "level of originality" is a recipe for confusion and needless police-work for mods. Why not consider something more straightforward and easier to categorize? One possible alternative could be
ROMs
Kernels (and basebands where appropriate)
Root/booting
HOWTOS and requests for help (both from devs and users)
That would make it easier for devs, mods and users.
Yeah, I find this setup a bit confusing too, honestly.

I'm lovin that idea. If were gonna have mountains of dev stuff, the more organized, the better.
Firstly, you don't start a thread in a Dev section to ask a question, ever.
Secondly, the decision to add 'Original Development' sections to devices that have or are expected to have very active development was taken by the forum Admins, not the Forum-Specific Moderators.
So you would be far better off posing the question to them, either in this section or even in this thread.
Beyond that, given how new the Nexus 7 is, it's extremely premature to conclude that the Original Development section will be a waste of space.

Done.
I'm starting this since I didn't see any other areas where its talked about.
Installed the rom, I just love AOKP, and its fc when I use the camera? It seems worse when I rotate it. Any suggestions?
It's talked about in the thread for the ROM in the Dev section.
Not everyone feels so entitled that they need to show their presence all over the forums with multiple threads about the same ROM
We have had this discussion before!
Let the team members decide where and what thread they want. I have no issues if a team member starts a Rom specific QnA thread.

Best threads are usually frowned upon as it's really a matter of personal preference.
To answer about Paranoid, you must not have searched much/at all.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502789

So under the vs980 folder on the downloads, it only shows 4.0 alpha and beta downloads. Are there any 4.4.2 roms?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes but they are all unstable. The Paranoid is still beta version and the Cyanogenmod is still nightlies version.
However both of them are great but for daily use the Paranoid is more stable than the Cyano.
The Cyano has also a lot of things that doesn't work good for now.
What r some good stable 4.4.2 rooms that still have the knock on feature and quick remote? And preferably pie and halo

Paranoid 4.0+
Depends on you, i like Slimkat, mahdi and paranoid, all then is very good

Hello, and welcome to the forum,
Before you click the "New Thread" or "Post Reply" buttons, please take the time to read some rules/guidelines for posting in this forum:
1) Read and follow the Forum Rules:
Plain and simple. No further explanation needed
2) Post your message in the proper subforum (see above):
All questions, requests, and help & troubleshooting needs, go in the Q&A Help & Troubleshooting subforum, if one exists for your device, and any misplaced messages will be promptly moved to their respective location. Users that make it a habit of posting in the wrong forum will be addressed accordingly. If you're unsure of where your post or thread belongs, please read the Forum Rules again.
3) No off-topic discussion:
While some Moderation Teams may allow some off-topic discussion and the creation of off-topic threads, we do not. There is an entire General Off-Topic forum devoted to this type of discussion and there are enough threads already available to meet anyone's off-topic needs. All off-topic threads, and posts containing off-topic discussion, will be deleted promptly and without warning. If you're concerned with the amount of off-topic discussion and misplaced questions in the Development forums, please consider making a Q&A Thread for your ROM/Kernel/Project/etc.
4) No threads or posts asking for the best/most stable ROM/Kernel/Mod/whatever, or created for the purpose of comparing Phones/ROMs/Kernels/Mods/whatever:
These threads/posts will be deleted promptly and without warning. They have a history of causing problems due to trolls, and fanboys, along with various troublemakers, and therefore are no longer allowed. Regardless of that, there is really no way to judge whether or not a particular piece of work is better than another because it's all relative to begin with. If you want to know what piece of work is better for you, install something and try it out for a while. If you don't like it, try something else. Our Developers work hard to provide us their contributions, free of charge. Please show them the respect they deserve by trying something out and giving them your feedback.
5) Don't ask for an ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival):
Asking for an ETA is the XDA equivalent of telling a Developer that the free work they do just isn't enough for you. It usually comes across as rude and/or demanding, and most developers will take offense to it. Even if a particular Developer doesn't mind being asked for an ETA, there are many that do, and there's a good possibility that it will incite arguments in the forum. In the end, it's just best to avoid doing it altogether. If you have no other choice but to ask for an ETA (i.e. the work you're doing absolutely depends on it), then please, do it through a private message and keep it out of the public forums.
6) Keep your signatures at a respectable size:
While members are given a great deal of freedom in creating personalized signatures, it is expected that this freedom is not abused. Abnormally large signatures are obnoxious to most users and they tend to be a major distraction from the topic at hand. If your signature is double the size of an average post or larger, expect be asked to change it. If you're not sure whether the size of your signature is within the respectable limits, feel free to contact a member of the Moderation Team that is assigned to this forum for clarification.
7) Be nice:
It's not that hard. If you can't say something nice to someone, don't say anything at all. If you feel the need to respond negatively to someone, please refer to #8.
8) Report all violations of the aforementioned rules/guidelines and DO NOT respond to them in the open forum:
If you happen to notice a rule violation, use the "Report Post" button in the upper right hand corner of the offending post, or send them a polite reminder through private message so they may resolve the problem on their own (for minor violations of course). Please do not respond to posts that are in violation of the rules in public. Regardless of the fact that it leaves more work for us to do when cleaning the forum, responding to them in public only compounds the issue and it puts you at risk of getting in trouble yourself. Moderators have much more effective ways of dealing with these situations than by arguing back and forth and disrupting the entire conversation, so please, let us handle it.
If there are any questions or concerns regarding this or any other matter, please feel free to contact a member of the Moderation Team that is assigned to this forum. You can find a list of the assigned Moderators at the top of each sub-forum page.
With that, here are a few great threads to help you get the most out of your experience here...please take advantage of them:
