Retaining root from MF3 to 4.3?

Hey guys, I've done a lot of searching in this forum and found a lot of conflicting answers, so decided to start a fresh thread. I've been on 4.2.2/MF3 for a while now running Safetrap. I'm looking to take the OTA from AT&T and upgrade to 4.3.
I havent seen any root methods for 4.3 yet, but the question is, can I upgrade to 4.3 and retain root if I am running the latest version of SuperSU Pro with survival mode enabled?
A custom recovery with the option for installing ROMs is not needed, especially since I havent been able to do that since I updated to MF3. All I need is to keep root under 4.3 and I'll be more than happy, thanks!

This is my exact question. I just need some concrete answer as to yes or no... but as you said way too many conflicting answers!

YES.
I used "Survival mode" and it worked for me.

Hi so there is a way to update stock to 4.3 and continue using safestrap to run 4.2.2 roms????I would doubt that with what Ive read so far.

I too can confirm this works using Survival Mode from SuperSU Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu.pro&hl=en).
Now, that being said, being a very big noob myself (switching over from heavily tweaked jailbroken iPhone 5), I did this, all was well, I thought I had some issues with some apps and thought 'hmm... maybe I'll just downgrade to MF3 and see if the problem is fixed'. Yeah, attempting to do that with Odin has left me soft-bricked, but for all intents and purposes (that I can tell) it's actually hard-bricked 'cause Kies did nothing, Odin does nothing, if I understand things correctly the only thing that could possibly help is if we had the MD5's available to us for MK2, which, my searching is coming up empty. So, point is according to what I can tell, if you go MK2, there is NO going back to 4.2.2, so use caution.
So just an important safety tip there (unless someone wants to correct my noobness).

Yes. I can confirm that enabling "survival mode" in SuperSU and updating will keep your root; i did this on my pphone coming from MF3.
However, with that being said, i quickly unrooted from there because i had issues with MMS/messaging and phone calls not being recieved, and i did not want to reset my phone. If you run into similar issues as i am not the only one reporting those issues you can so a reset on your data (your root will not be affected, you will be rooted after the reset) or an unroot will work.

First with Safestrap you CAN flash Roms. It is just limited to about 10 or so Roms that will work as they need to be 4.2.2 based.
Now with that said for those that ONLY want root on MK2 then someone in the Verizon thread has a WORKING ROOT available for MK2 4.3 firmware here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 and it DOESN'T come with the maliscious code that Kango and VRoot does. This DOES NOT give you recovery but it does give root. So thank the OP in that thread for helping out the community. I did and I HOPE I will never need to use it!!!

S4 I337m, Cannot root 4.3

Hey guys,
I updated my I337m Telus to 4.3 and since have been unable to root using CF or motochopper. I have tried using terminal but to no avail. Superuser sometimes will install and sometimes won't. When it installs it won't grant root priveleges. I'm on MDJ at the moment. Am I doing something wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.

You screen shows you are on 4.2.2. Are you on 4.3 or 4.2.2 ?

Sorry for the confusion, i reflashed the older software so i could get root. I cannot root 4.3.

Also why not just root on 4.2.2 and then flash a 4.3 stock rom and not take the update ?

I have tried kingo but to no avail. Also tried the second method but after flash to 4.3 I cannot access root privileges. Have tried completely restoring to factory and then repeating procedure step by step. Nothing. Any suggestions are appreciated thanks.

[Q] Lost root after update

Just got my S5 and used towelroot as soon as I got it, went perfectly.
Now I updated some Samsung OTA updates and lost root. To make things worse, towelroot now says device not supported.
How can I get root back?

This has been asked and answered (a lot of times) before. So almost any forum search would have answered your questions.
Updates usually break root. So that is expected behaviour. If you value root, you should probably be blocking the OTA updater app. Ironically enough, the update your chose also blocks the Towel root exploit. You can use Odin to reinstall a pre June 3rd build of the correct stock firmware which remains amenable to Towel root.

Or just flash the updated rom next time with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root Most S5`s are supported bij MOP.

Could I just do a factory reset and not update the firmware to keep root? Would that work?

No. And I don't see a rationale for thinking that might be viable. A factory data reset wipes the /data partition i.e. user settings /apps. Whereas root is configured in the system files.

I have the update available but I didn't flash yet because I want to keep root.
Is an unlocked bootloader required to use Mobil Odin Pro to flash the Latest update?
I have a VZW SM-G900V, Rooted, Stock OS, Locked Bootloader and no Custom Recovery installed.

Please disregard this question: Mobil Odin Pro does not support the SM-G900V yet.

Also it should be noted that Mobil Odin Pro will not launch at all if the device is running with ART Runtime System enabled. It will only force crash with every attempt. It will launch with DALVIK Runtime System enabled however it will only post a message of incompatibility with only the option of creating a system dump file for the developer!

Samsung galaxy s5 at&t sm-G900a isn't rootable.

Towel root doesn't work on the Samsung gs5 g900a. Root is blocked on this phone from at&t.

Same thing is happening to me. I had it rooted until the phone updated itself and now I can't root it through TowelRoot anymore. This sucks.

I'm sure it won't be long before one of the clever guys around here has it figured out.

Thats a known "problem"…
Towelroot used an old kernelbug for rooting, but since june/july Samsung use a newer kernel without this bug and towelroot cannot work anymore!
But following should work:
Update the Firmware and reboot! (Wait some time after reboot, to finishing the update on reboot!)
Then flash the old Kernel (ONLY the Kernel) and root with Towelroot. Ignore the Errors that comes from old (wrong) Kernel.
After rooting flash back the actual kernel…

Mine is rooted, no problems doing it.

I'm new to android.
Never done a kernel change.
I'm going to read about it.
What I do know is I was rooted with towel root, the then it installed software updates from att. At this point I was no longer rooted and towelroot now says it is incompatible with this phone.

[Q] old offline Towelroot no reboot?

Hey guys. I recently started a thread in the general android Q&A but was given the helpful idea to check these parts...
I used to have an apk for towelroot that would root the S4 (i337 or i537) without requiring an internet connection OR a reboot to work! I thought I got it from the towelroot website but I have tried all 3 official versions from there with no luck and am now wondering if anyone here had the same APK I was using.
I lost my copy and miss it

I have towelroot v3
let me know if you still need it

I believe v3 is still the current version on the towelroot website. For me it requires internet, but no reboot
