Flash this rom for here with Odin and you are rooted. Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824. Does not increase the flash counter. Or flash this http://download.chainfire.eu/345/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip with a custom recovery.

ive found one root option that seems to work but you cant install a custom recovery.
my phone came with the mk2 update from sprint so is there any way to root it and have a custom recovery? im not worried about tripping knox if that matters. also does the cf-auto root method work with the full mk2 update?

Isn't that the method that ends up installing a root kit on your computer and sends all your personal information to China.

You might want to edit your post before someone actually tries doing that.

This is what worked for me
You've probably already found a solution, but this is how I rooted the Sprint MK2 4.3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uii_mYm8IGE
This worked fine, and I was able to install custom recovery. Just been having and issue getting a proper backup, but everything else worked just fine.
Hope this helps

The method is for Verizon GS4, can you reconfirm that its working for Spring L720 too?
Thanks
I can confirm that it worked for my Sprint MK2 4.3. I should mention that when I started the instal bat and the command prompt screen popped up telling me to hit any key to continue, nothing happened. I "x'd" out of command prompt and started the install bat again and it worked no problem. I have done this a total of 3 times now. All on Sprint MK2 4.3 and all successful. I checked each time with root checker to ensure root access.
I can also confirm that Safe Root tool was able to root my Sprint L720 MK2-based 4.3 Galaxy S4. I had Odin'ed back to stock MK2 days ago. I haven't tried the SafeTrap Recovery yet so I can back-up/install custom ROMs.
can anyone confirm that SafeRoot does not trip KNOX?

It doesn't . but once you install a custom recovery it trips it.

Thanks for the confirmation as it assured me enough to go ahead and root... and as confirmation on my end that it worked!!
One question though... as I'm now rooted, it's been mentioned that when you boot the device up you should see a "Custom" banner during boot because things have been changed. On my device I never see this and was wondering if that's the case on yours as well.
I can also confirm that QBKING&&s root method works for mk2 build..so does goomanager for installing twrp and disabling knox. Jut dont try the MJA native hotspot mod...i followed the video to the t and am now stuck in a boot loop

Why would you use the MJA native hotspot mod for a MK2 build? I believe in that same thread they released an MK2 hotspot mod as well, which I have installed successfully as I now have FoxFi WiFi hotspot availability!

There is no root for available for official Kit Kat 4.4.2 right now. Also due to locked boot loader there is no going back to previous firmware build. He is stuck on stock Kit Kat.

No you can't. The bootloader is set to disallow going back. Root has nothing to do with installing CWM or TWRP.

You have been screwed my friend...
This is why you freeze OTA updates. Thats what I did when I was still on MDL and now I've been running stock debloated optimized Kitkat 4.4.2 for months now. 300mb ROM vs the 2.2GB stock TW ROM.
Sorry man...sucks :\

Towelroot will work with 4.2.2 ucuamdl , at least it did for me. You will also want to stay on ucuamdl so you can install a custom recovery and custom roms.
I'm looking to root a Verizon S5 running 4.4.4 (G900VVRU1ANK2). I updated to 5.0 and didn't want it so I flashed back, but towelroot doesn't work for this version either. Is there a way to step it back to 4.4.2 and it work? Thanks!

Download this, flash via Odin, then root again. You will be on NGC, 4.4.2
