Hows your Tablet after X amount of months? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! I'm looking to buy an Nexus 10 in the next few weeks but I'd like to get some reviews or opinions on your guys experience after using it for some time now. I have a nexus 4 and am real into the android eco system and all but I also have an Ipad and am worried about the app selection. Do you guys find it lacking? ANyone else have an ipad to compare experiences? I love android but if all Im gonna be doing is using the chrome app then I might as well stick to the Ipad and not spend the extra money. What do you guys think? I use my Ipad for mostly media consumption, web browsing, flipboard, reading books & time magazine and other tablet magazine/newspapers, movies and music, and some productivity stuff. Help me out guys! Also if you have the 16 gig version, are you finding yourself out of space? I may opt for the 32gig.

After 4 months of using my Nexus 10 it's defiantly one of my favorite devices that I own, my friend was a hard core ipad user but he recently switched to a Nexus 10 and really likes it. As far as app wise, Android has come a long way in regards to tablet optimized app's and virtually all of the major app's are optimized for tablets. For media consumption I love using the Nexus 10 I often find myself watching Netflix on that at night because of the great screen over my TV. It's also great for regular movies, and tv shows you have loaded on and the speakers for music are quite loud for a tablet. Web browsing is great with chrome fast and smooth. I haven't tired flipboard personally so I can't comment on that unfortunately, for magazines and newspapers most seem to read nicely but a couple of them can be oddly formatted. For productivity, I use app's like Photo Editor and Sketchbook Pro for Tablets which all work well in usage experiences. As far as storage goes I have the 32 GB version and I am glad I went for it over the 16 GB because there is not sd-card slot it's better to have the storage capacity for when you need it rather then being frustrated when you run out of storage room.

I've also had it for 4 months. I'm a full time student and I find myself using my tablet every day as opposed to my computer. Honestly I didn't expect it to be as useful as it turned out to be. The only thing I can't use it for is advanced video editing. And the only thing that I prefer doing on my computer rather than Nexus is typing long essays. I don't actually have a tablet keyboard though so I imagine it would be much smoother with a physical keyboard and mouse.
As previously stated, my Nexus 10 is an awesome media device. I have a lot of 3D action games that I enjoy playing. Plus whenever I go a few days without my Nexus, I'm always blown away by how crisp the screen is when I come back. You never permanently get used to the high quality screen.

Galaxy Tab 2 7" owners input wanted.

Hey guys i'm not from this forum but from the galaxy ace forums.
I'm looking into buying this tab but I just want to know how good is it to live with everyday. I'll just be using it for everyday tasks, web browsing, music, movies and regular fooling around but I would also be starting my masters degree soon so I will want to to take some basic notes and that sort of thing.
I would also like to know how easy it is to root and install custom roms on it, also on average what kind of overclocks can be achieved if I ever need any extra horse power. I was also looking at the Nexus 7 but that does not have any expandable memory slot which sucks and also I think 4 cores for a 7" tab is just being wasteful .
But any way, what are your thoughts on it, I've watched and read the reviews and I know its a good tab I just a want to know how good is it a month or 2 later.
Thanks again for any input guys.
The only thing I wouldn't use it for would be note taking because of trying to type on the keyboard would feel to slow for me. For note taking, I'd think the Note 10.1 would be great because of the s-pen that you could use. It is really easy to flash anything custom to the tablet, just flash recovery via Odin or Heimdall, then boot into recovery and flash whatever you want. I use my tablet for web browsing and as an e-reader and it's fit my uses just fine. Also thinking of using it as a "portable" media player as well since the audio output from the small speakers is really good IMO, and it also has the same audio codec as the SGS3, WM1811, which is a really good audio processor.

go for it its an excellent tab...
No lags at all...
All your needs will satisfied in a premium touch even without rooting/overclocking the tablet...
It can be overclocked to 1.3 ghz and for rooting tutorial search the forum you will get it...
Thanks for the speedy replies guys...I'm really leaning toward this tab just because of its' priceerformance ratio
Its a great tablet for its price.
Pros-
Sim supported, 3G with 14.4 Mbps speed
Good battery life (comparing to other tablets)
Light weight and looks awesome in white color
64 GB Expandable memory
USB On the go support
Cons-
Some awesome games are not supported (i think it because its new developers will add support soon)
No Gorilla Glass
No HDMI
The Samsung galaxy is full worth the money dude I'm 24x7 online in it using 2g gprs the battery stands for more than one day and the screen on time is 5 to 7 hours depends on the usage with games and stuff that means you can continuous use upto 5 to 7 hours till drain this is he only best tab at 18k to 20 k price range with ICS and don't forget to update to 4.0.4 from 4.0.3 from the box good luck

Well, I strongly disagree about the note taking, I use Evernote, and for note taking it has been a dream-come-true! Its optimized for our screens, and syncs to their servers for backup. Price is very good for what you get. It has a couple of things other 7" tablets dont have, such as GPS (Glonass), and an IR emitter (universal remote for your entertainment system).
This tablet has also had most of its source code released so all the devs here should, in theory, have a field day hacking at it. It also has a very decent CPU and GPU; these chips are used in many other devices aswell, so their technically should be tons of support for lots of games and apps that indulge in nicer hardware (they run smoother, sometimes).
This has become my main music device. I use bluetooth headphones and they, and my tab, support Bluetooth 3.0 and Apt-X Bluetooth lossless audio codec by CSR; listening to music is simply delightful!
Bought mine to replace a Arnova 10g2 that was just not up to the job i wonted it for which was to read E books and Comics (My father now has it now! He loves it?) as the screen was really poor! Happy with the Tab 2 once over-clocked and cyanmod flashed! Got a bit disappointed with the announcement of the Galaxy 7 until they mentioned the lack of external memory support! Still if they release a Nexus 7 with external memory! Then I think my mother might soon be the owner of a nearly new Tab 2! lol!
Good screen, plays Dead Trigger well and SD Slot! What more could you ask for?

I'm generally pretty happy with this tablet, it was supposed to be a stopgap tablet until the Nexus 7 was officially announced but once I realized that there would be no external storage (which I pretty much knew anyway) I stuck around with this.
I'm not happy with the tablet but I am content with it, if that makes sense.
It doesn't have the fastest processors/gpu, the screen isn't the greatest and the proprietary dock (makes having to buy all new accessories a pain) but as
long as you come into this tablet knowing what to expect, then it's pretty damned good. It doesn't have a huge Rom community but that also cuts down on the over saturation
from some of the more popular phones (have you seen the Galaxy sII or Desire HD forums?!? Ai yi yi) off the top of my head, I think this has a Stripped down stock Rom,
CM9, CM10 (alpha) maybe a Miui Rom which covers all the major basics as far as I'm aware.
I've been running CM9 RC2 since about 2 weeks after I bought this and I'm pretty happy and Once I wake up from this nap I'll probably be flashing CM9 stable & supercharge
it.
I know that I didn't really productively answer your questions but I hope I gave you some perspective on the tablet.
P.S. The thing I hate and I mean hate is the limited internal memory (I think it's 4.7gb or some such) which didn't seem bad at first cuz I was planning
on buying a 32gb card for everything, but apps especially games chew into that space so damn quickly and it doesn't get saved to teh ext card instead, even though I have all my media moved to the external card, I still run into scenario's where I can't update apps because I get that dreaded notification Tablet space is low.
Dev's are working on ways to utilise ext cards for storage bbut there is nothing stable I'm willing to try yet.
I'm running CM1O and its sooooo cool.
The Tab itself is very nice to touch and use . The tab has a nice weight to it and is balanced to hold. one draw back is the placement of the speakers.... sometimes playing games the sound becomes "muffled" due to hand/control positioning. Same as charging /playing music , It is sometimes awkward to use, but not overpowering.
Cant say i have any issues with the Tab , apart from the ones that i have caused lol.
Screen quality is VERY good for a budget tablet /size, same as sound quality.
Storage could become an issue but has workarounds , but over all........ WOW.....LOVIN IT !!!11!!!
I liked it when I bought it but the Nexus 7 is far and away the better 7" tablet in my opinion with one exception. The advantage of the Samsung is the internal micro SD. If you are staying stock, and want to watch media from non cloud based sources, the Samsung is better. If you will be rooting, you can use an OTG USB cable and use micro sd cards on the 7. The 7 is better in almost every other way and has a plain JB interface without the extra bloat Samsung puts on their tablets. My guess is we may never even see an official Jelly Bean release for the Galaxy 2 given the speed at which Samsung updates their software. Of course, there are multiple JB ROM's already out for the Galaxy 2, just not stock versions.
My Galaxy 2 died last weekend. It would just go dead and then required you plug in to the computer and hold the power button for 60 seconds. As soon as the screen would shut off, the same issue occurred. I called Samsung and they were very quick to send me a shipping label to return it for repair. Within 4 days the unit was supposedly repaired with a "Software Upgrade (External Factor)" whatever that means. It should arrive back on Tuesday. Hopefully it is fixed.
Just my opinion....

I have no complaints. Does everything my Thrive does , i can put JB on, and have used this as a credit Card terminal. I had audio issues with a custom rom and video playback, nothing major. Only things i dont care for are the stock predictive text and that some of my tegra specific apps dont work (this having and OMAP cpu and all).
Was definitely worth the cash since it actually outperforms my Thrive for most uses and cost half as much. Thrive wins points for the full sized usb and hdmi ports though.
Thank you all for your time on replying...I think this is the tab I am gonna settle on...a good solid all rounder.
I have this (the 3G version) for a week now. So far I'm perfectly happy with the purchase. Excellent value for money.
I really like my tab 2 7.0", but....
My Pros
- TouchWiz actually has some nice apps on this device. File manager, email, pop-up apps, power toggles are nice features
- Speakers are awesome
- Expandable memory
- Works great with USB thumb drives, mouse and keyboard (with adapter)
My Cons
- Screen resolution sucks, things are blurry (like most Android tablets). Some newer devices like Nexus 7, Asus Infinity, iPad3 have HD screens
- No TV out
- TouchWiz although I think is quite nice slows it down at times. I rooted and froze a ton of unwanted apps. Not all can be to be disabled through native ICS settings
- Chrome that comes with the latest update crashes a lot. New bookmark widget is also bad. Install ICS browser+ from the market instead.
I got it yesterday, rooted and installed AOKP JB. The size feels perfectly great to me. I have not cycled the battery enough to give any input on tat. Games run awesomly well, including minecraft PE on fancy graphics. Its an awesome tab, i love it

the wireless receiver on galaxy tab 2 7" is the worst thing on this tablet, the second is the battery life with wifi on! i got mine, i like it but......
For typing, Thumb Keyboard is the best coming from a blackberry. The split keyboard is excellent and fully customizable. The only issue is holding this in portrait mode leads to the death grip but if you are note taking and don't need a strong wifi connection you got to try it. Landscape mode resolves this also.
I am going to try a custom rom to help boost this baby up a bit.
Yea this device may start out with OK performance but it does get pretty laggy. Rooting and running a Jellybean ROM will increase performance a good amount.

Nexus 10 vs ultra book? Which to get?

Hello,
In the past few weeks I have been getting pretty excited about getting a nexus 10.
Mainly due to the large screen with its insane resolution.
I have been an android user since my first smartphone.
Currently I have a Galaxy Nexus and a nexus 7.
I love the 7. It has great portability and I take it outside often due to its small size.
I am however thinking about adding a nexus 10 to my gadgets because when at home doing mainly couch browsing, I wish for a bigger screen, especially to use chrome.
However in the last few days I saw that for just a bit more I can buy an ultra book with a 13 inch screen hard drive, 4 gb of ram and not too much weight.
On that price range the screen is just 1366x768, but for a 13 inch laptop it might be enough.
So, hanging on the fence here.
What should I go for?
Nexus 10 or ultra book?
Cheers

I've been using a 13 inch Macbook Pro for a couple of years and am replacing it with the Nexus 10.
Having recently gotten a PC again, I've found myself using my Mac less and less. With a powerful PC, the only thing I really needed my mac for was for internet access on the go and so my mac had basically become a cumbersome internet machine - something that a tablet is far more suited to.
It all depends on what you want to use it for. I do photo editing, light pc gaming and lots of internet browsing. My PC can handle all of that and when I want to be mobile a tablet is a more practical option than a laptop. I wouldn't want to just have a tablet because of the things I do use my PC for, but if I was just internet browsing then I could probably manage with just a tablet.
If you want something for couch browsing, then why would you pay more for a laptop which is more cumbersome to use than a tablet? The specs on the ultrabook are fairly average, and if you're only planning on using it for things a tablet could easily accomplish, then you may as well save the money and buy the thing suited for the task.
I was in the same boat like you last week, i ended up buying a Asus Zenbook Prime for $1,030 with Window 8, can't compare a Android tablet to a full PC, now if you want both a tablet with a full PC i would look at something like this
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/tablet-pcs/XE700T1C-A01US
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ATIV-Smart-Pro-700T/dp/B0098O9TRO
BTW that thing has the same spec as my Zenbook but has a better SSD then my Ultrabook
Thank you for the replies.
Currently I just have my Galaxy Nexus and nexus 7.
I don't currently own a computer.
My wife has a laptop I use when I need to do something pc related like using the nexus toolkit and torrents and such.
But that kind of use is not too frequent.
I like android os as I use Google services and having everything in sync between the devices is a plus.
I use Tapatalk to browse the forums on the 7 and some apps like ebay and imdb for specific uses.
When I use my Nexus 7 at home I wish it was bigger. I find it strange bit cumbersome to use chrome with several open tabs and for more intensive Web browsing.
So the nexus 10 looks like an option to me.
I don't work with a computer at home. For Work i have the office computer.
So, my doubts:
- would a nexus 10 overlap my Nexus 7 and one of the devices become redundant?
- would the 10 inch screen of the nexus 10 be big enough to overcome the limitations I find on the 7?
- would an ultra book be more agile and faster?
- would an ultra book be comfortable to use without a table or desk? Just for couch surf?
Don't know which side to turn.
Cheers

I dont know about this it might be dumb or you might end up challenging yourself but have you never thought of building your "own" computer, here is just one of million example, this is on the extreme side since its water cooled

Ultrabook Cons:
If you buy a Windows 8 ultrabook now, you're going to regret it in a few months once Haswell comes out. You paying about $800 - $1200 (ultrabook - ultrabook convertible) for something that will last only about 4-7 hours. Wait about half a year and the Haswell chips should allow at least 7 hours of use.
Tablets would be far more comfortable on your lap. Also considering how ultrabooks have air vents, if you block a vent on accident, your ultrabook might end up frying itself. So I'd think ultrabooks are far more comfortable to use on a table or desk.
Ultabrook Pros:
Ultrabooks are far far far far more powerful than tablets. You can't deny it. An i5 or i7 processor will blow any other mobile chips out of the water. So the performance will definitely be more "agile and faster."
My recommendation is that you either wait for the Haswell chips to be used in Ultrabooks or just go with the Nexus 10.

But who needs a far more powerful machine just for web browsing and watching videos.
If you need to be able to run demanding Windows programs, then by all means get an ultrabook. If it's just going to be used for light casual tasks like web browsing, the tablet is the better/cheaper option.
The only thing I'm concerned about with the Nexus 10 is what the screen quality is like. No, not the resolution, the black level & colours. If it's anything like the Note 10.1 it will be very good imo.

Had a wild idea today.
I can get a new ipad 4 for a sweet price of 400 euros.
The same price that the nexus 10 is supposed to cost from the play store.
Should I give the ipad a chance?
Or is the nexus 10 better?
How would the ipad play with my Android devices in the terms of syncing email, calendar, contacts?

It depends if you can live with their walled garden eco system. But you do get more optimized apps and games.
I wouldn't get one personally. Android allows me to do almost everything I can do on my laptop. IOS is too limiting for me. I also don't like Apple, but that's another story.

I used to use apple computers. Sold my latest imac this year.
I liked it more than windows.
Trouble free.
I never had a ios device.
But for what I use the tablet, I guess I could make do with an ipad, and the 4:3 screen is sweet for Web browsing.
And Google has a gmail app and chrome app, so I guess it would be doable.
I guess I could buy it and if I don't like it, sell it.

Definitely. That is why the ultrabook is far more versatile and can become your tablet, laptop, computer, etc. But if you don't need Windows software, then you're 100% right. The money doesn't justify simple internet browsing and casual gaming.

I don't want to weigh in here too much since I don't own an iPad, but if you're not someone who likes tweaking things, the iPad certainly looks like the choice of your device. "Best user experience" is based on you. "Feeling walled in" to the ecosystem, while maybe true, certainly won't be a problem for someone who simply likes a trouble free device.

I would probably prefer the nexus 10.
The problem is that Google does not sell it trough the play store here in Portugal.
So I will probably have to resort to some sort of tricks to buy one or will have to pay more than the play store price of 399 euros.
The ipad I can pickup the new 4 here with a company cuppon for 410 euros...
So the easiness of purchase makes me want to try the ipad.
If only google could come to their senses in regard to distribution of their products...

Tbh I just can't get by the fact that ios won't let you change the default browser. Currently on my sgs3 I don't have a default browser so every time I click on something it asks me what browser I want to use. Also I like having a user accessible file system because it just makes downloading things like pdfs and such so much easier. I just wanted to throw this out there because I considered buying an ipad due to the gpu, but have decided not to due to the obvious os limitations.

It really depends on what your goal is and how much you are willing to pay.
Personally, the most action packed system on the market (soon to be) is as someone else mentioned Ativ Smart Pro. Here is quick list of why:
Ativ Smart Pro
+Full HD screen - I owned Transformer Infinity and have seen iPad 3 a few times. The screen resolution jump from regular screen i.e. iPad 2, or current android tablets to Infinity's full HD screen was big. From full HD to Retina display did not seem as much. But certainly, good to have high resolution.
+Wacom stylus - I had Galaxy Note 10.1 for little. Capative screen with just stylus is markedly different in accuracy and experience compared to inductive pen technology.
+ Real windows - The Windows store market is nowhere that of Android or iOS; however, when you add legacy windows applications, things totally change.
+ Keyboard dock - Can use as real ultrabook PC
+ Expandable memory - One reason I am really holding myself back from buying Nexus 10. This was one of the major reason I jumped from iOS to Android.
Major downsides
-Price $1200 - Considering this is real ultrabook PC, and high end tablet. If you buy both, it may perhaps cost similar but still a bit too expensive. Plus as stated below, the tablet experience may not be as perfect.
-Battery life - Listed 9 hours, but in reality it may be like 4-5 hours (rumor)
- Weight - Close to 1.9 lbs is a bit heavy for pure tablet.
Alternatively, Ativ Smart PC or other atom based real Windows 8 tablet may be a valid option. It has Atom processor i.e. slower than i5; however, longer battery life, lighter weight. However, it does not have Full HD. But cost is cheaper like $600-$700. It is atom underpowered for real full blown PC power i.e. you won't be able to play skyrim or high end graphics game, but still has Wacom stylus, MS office, and even sunspider benchmark is still faster than any other Android or iPad 4.

For $1200, I would much rather have a $400 Nexus 10 and a $800 ultrabook instead of one compromised machine. I really wouldn't recommend anyone to get a X86 tablet until Haswell comes out.
As an Android lover... if you're not interested in tweaking or customizing your device, and/or are not willing to put up with lots of workarounds and the like, get an iDevice. I'm sure android will eventually be just as polished with just as many tablet apps, but right now you'll need a thick skin and a love for the platform itself to want the N10 over a iPad4.
That said, there are certainly many advantages to the Nexus 10 for me and my uses, and I wouldn't trade it for an iPad in a million years. But if you care about a smooth experience, get an iPad.

Is this device good for reading pdf's and ebooks?

Just wondering as that would be my main use, or should I just wait for the nexus 10?
If you will use the S-Pen a lot, for writing notes/drawing/etc: definitely buy this tablet, 100%
if you won't use the S-Pen much: wait for the nexus 10
simple as that
Or if you want to use multitasking features

Yes, it's terrific for reading on
I'm using it to look at PDF's, ebooks, and reading comics on it - the screen is fantastic, and one thing this has going for it is the microsd support - you can store a ton of things on it that way.
I upgraded from the original note 10.1 just for the better screen resolution for ebook reading. Most of my medical textbooks were available in Adobe DRM PDF format and the new note is much easier on my eyes as well as faster dealing with 2,000 page books with oodles of pictures. As others have said though, if you are not going to use the same pen, the next Nexus may be a better deal for you.

I'm not going to use the s-pen that much to be honest. Just wondering how this tablet displayed pdf's and ebooks, apparently pretty good . I'll wait to see if google announces the new nexus 10 tomorrow at their event. I'd be interested in the resolution and if it has an sd card slot, if it doesnt then I'm leaning towards this tablet. What about videos? Netflix, youtube, your movies off an sdcard? Any issues? buffering?

Nexus devices have a history of not including a sd card slot and the resolution would probably be similar to the note 10.1.
Videos work great as on any other recent android device but the nice thing about this one is you can multitask very easily with some apps like youtube or the built in video player and play a video on one side or in a floating window while you do something else.

I know about the nexus devices but just maybe they may change that with the nexus 10 but thats just wishful thinking. The multitasking sounds cool, wish it worked with apps of your choice. Like youtube on one and and some workout timer on the other window. Hearing a little bit about lag especially in apps like flipboard? Samsung has made a rep of lagging their devices up like the samsung galaxy s4 which I sold for the Lg g2.

With root, you should be able to multitask on almost any app. I disabled a lot of the samsung bloat like the eye tracking features and it doesn't lag at all anymore. If you want to make it even faster, you could install a custom launcher like nova, apex, etc. and it should be extremely fast.
Also I have the S4 as well and some custom ROMs really optimized the phone and I get no lag on that anymore either.
If you're not sold on the pen, its still probably best to wait and see. Also one thing to note, nexus tablets have multi-user feature while samsung took that out for some reason.

There is root for this?
I read ebooks, comics, pdf (magazines and some school papers) on mine without issues. Besides the awesome screen, having the microSD card was key. Those documents that have graphics tend to to be big...and they add up after time. And I must say, simply using the S-pen to flip pages has been useful in keeping the screen clean.
I also have a few movies and TV episodes, as well as a ton of music, and they all run flawlessly directly from the card. I have to do this because I am deployed and I can't stream anything where I'm at (especially when I travel).
As others mentioned, just disable the bloat and you'll be lag free. I was originally planning to install Nova Launcher to keep things fast & clean, but honestly, I hardly had any lag to begin with, and now that I cleaned up some of the bloat, it runs great with the stock Touchwiz (which has certinaly come a long way since I last used Touchwiz when I first got my S3).
I absolutely LOVE the multitasking too! being able to browse the internet with a book, video chat, facebook, or a movie going is absolutely awesome! Quite a few (of the main) apps are supported by the side-by-side multitasking option...I was quite surprised. It's the small hovering window (that you draw with the S-pen) that only supports a small handful of apps.
So if you don't care for the S-pen, the microSD storage option, or the multitasking, then wait for the cheaper Nexus.

About 5-6 hours of screen on time with moderate to heavy use. If you're just going to be reading, it'll probably last a lot longer than that.

I have only had it for a few days, but I have not had to charge it each night. It's on par with my other tablet...which is pretty good. Probably a good full work day (or school day) of heavy use, otherwise, more with light use.

If that is your main use, I suggest saving 70% of price and buy a Nook HD+. Seriously. I have the Nook HD+ and besides a few games that are resource hogs (Asphalt 7 and Vice City), the HD+ is great for everything else and blows away my two Tegra 3 tablets for game emulators like MAME, PSP and N64. Asphalt 8 actually plays smooth on it, so 7 must really have been a hog.
Since however you are mainly reading, the Nook HD+ has a better form factor for reading (4:3 and 1" smaller overall) and you save 70% of the cost of a Sammy 2014. It lasts at least nine hours if just reading, but not tested until dead. About 7.5 hours with mix of browsing, videos, games, etc. 3D games though tend to drain quicker, so the number goes down from there.

I would definitely recommend the nexus 7 over any other 7-8 inch tablet.

Nexus won't likely have removable storage, but is rumored to have a 64GB option. Something to think about though, is if you're going to be reading a lot on the tablet, using the S-pen to more easily highlight text and make annotations is handy.
PS: Videos look AMAZING on this! Full 1080p videos play from my MicroSD card fine with MX Player Pro!

I think its big enough but I have never been a fan on 10" tablets. I prefer something I can cold with one hand and still click/type.
I don't use my nexus 7 a whole lot, mostly laying in bed or on the couch to browse the web while watching TV. I find it a good middle point between my Nexus 5's smaller screen and sitting at my desk on the desktop PC.

Great for ebooks and for everything else (surfing, music, games, etc.) but not so much for magazine subscriptions. With most magazines, you'd have to expand and move around the article while trying to read and it's a limitation not because of N7 but because it's not text based. As far as sound, my wife has the mini and comparing both, I think n7 (2013) has a better sound, imho.
I think a 7" tablet is a golden middle between size and portability. It's light, easy to hold in hands in any position. 10" is heavier, would be tiring to hold for a longer period of time.

[Q] Any Killer App?

Hi mates,
I have my N10 since the invention of the wheel (meaning, since it was first released) but I have it a home doing nothing, once in a while I use it to netflix or youtube, not even for gaming since I have also an N5 which covers most of my mobile necessities and since the N10 has no data plan, even gaming outside of wifi coverage is imposible.
So, being that said, I'd like to know if you guys know any killer app that makes the N10 the one choice over the N5 or a laptop, I don't want to sell my N10 I just want to find the value I can give it.
Thanks in advance.
Peace
Interesting comments as I have both a Nexus 5&10 but in regards to media consumption I primarily use my Nexus 10. While my Nexus 5 is only used as a phone/sms, for grocery lists and as a music player when on public transport.
Media consumption that I'm referring to:
Rss news and Web browsing
YouTube, Netflix, recorded TV shows (MythTV) via Wifi/Ethernet adapter/microSD card
Ebooks
Remote control for my audio equipment (media server)
Steaming music/videos from the Internet and/or my NAS
I do have a few games that are all HD quality and prefer my Nexus 10 due to screen size.
Using a small screen for viewing text or video content seems like too much of a compromise. But of course that's personal preference.
Sorry for not answering your question but you seemed to have already eliminated any of my reasons for owning a Nexus 10 or even one of the smaller tablets.

Hi,
There are some things I do on my Nexus 10 that cannot be replaced easily with the Xperia Z1. First is running Fedora OS on it as dual boot (LinuxOnAndroid), the screen size with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard makes it my laptop replacement easily . Also, watching videos with those stereo speakers and QuadHD screen quality is way better than a 5" FHD screen with a more or less quality audio.
Another point was ebooks, but since I have a Kindle I don't use Nexus too much for it, but reading some news articles and such on Nexus cannot be ignored, it's pleasantly good and some manga with smaller font I prefer using the better resolution of Nexus other than Kindle.
I think that's pretty much it .

Could I ask for some tips regarding Linux On Android? Have you found an optimal resolution? I set up Ubuntu 13.10 today. I've been trying different resolutions and androidVNC Input Modes, but nothing has satisfied me yet.
I do have a BT mouse and keyboard. Laptop replacement sounds awesome!
I'll see if Fedora feels better than Ubuntu. Of note, I am a linux noob, so that is a limitation if advanced customizations are required to bring this together. Pointing me in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
First, for the optimal resolution I recommend you to use expanded desktop (if you're on Cyanogenmod just long press Power Button and it'll be there, if not there are some apps that can do it, if I'm not wrong this app does it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures ). Then with this option on you'll input the 2560x1600 resolution.
To make it better as a laptop replacement (at least for basic things like LibreOffice and web) you'll need an app called Jump Desktop, as it supports the two mouse buttons. Then connect it and login, and there you are, a 10" "laptop" with a super high resolution! Keep in mind that running Android and Ubuntu will use some power so it's not very fluid, but I can use easily and feels pretty good!
Also, I started to use Fedora 3-4 months after installing Ubuntu (complete Linux noob at that time), and changed completely 2 or 3 months later. It's up to you, as on laptop you have to configure graphics card, packages, etc. it's harder to use, but on tablet as you get most installed, I prefer Fedora for being faster .

Thanks for the quick feedback!
Edit: Sweet! I had Jump Desktop in my Amazon account, a free app of the day at some point in the last few years. Yes, Jump is more polished for sure.
Edit x2: The All in one gestures did the job, like you said, for getting rid of the soft keys on my stock ROM. My >40 year old eyes need half the resolution though.
Thanks again for the tips! And, Fedora does feel better. . .
I'm slowly migrating my navigation et al to my N10, for I know is a beast tablet and doesn't seem fair to have spent that much coin and don't use it.
Question: Do you mates got to find a good, strong metal/aluminum keyboard/w/,w/o case) for the N10? I have one with soft keys that doens't encourages to use it.
Thanks in advance.

I bought this keyboard a few months ago: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BKW2410/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Works very well, and I love it because it's super thin and light, and IMO, the buttons give good feedback. Doesn't come with a case, but it's a quality piece. I use it with my Nexus 5, 7 (2013) and 10.
