Ingress and Nexus 4 Users - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone here play Ingress? How cool is it? I want to play SO BAD!

I wouldnt get your hopes too high. It is a unique and well thought out game. But depending on how many people play it in your area and your attention span, it doesn't have much replay value.
In my area, lots of people have the game, few are actively playing it. And most of those people are on the same team, so its stagnant.
I think the app fieldtrip by the same developer is a cooler experience (while not a game, you will see that its pretty much the same thing).

Thanks for the tip.
As for Ingress, I do play but only very little. I'm just not the guy to get overly motivated for "nothing" like in this game. I dunno. I play when I come across a portal but I don't explicitly go outside only to play Ingress anymore. I did in the beginning though.
Edit:
Fieldtrip: This app is incompatible with your O2 LGE Nexus 4.

Oh really? I feel like the idea is super cool. How does it work exactly? How long have y'all been playing?

It should work fine on the Nexus 4. Are you sure you are looking at the right app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.scout
Anyway Ingress is pretty fun when you are at lower levels and getting a lot of experience levels for doing tasks, which is a reward in itself, but once you have got to higher levels, you will start having to strategize more and play the game on a much larger scale. Depending on how active your area is, anything you do will be undone by the opposition pretty quickly so it can get a bit discouraging. I find that people who are enjoying the game are people who team up to work together to create huge control fields or coordinate attacks on the enemy, so I think the social aspect is the main reason to play the game at a more advanced level.

Ingress is fun. It does indeed slow down at higher levels, but I find a lot of fun in doing level 8 get togethers. Its nice to go out for the afternoon with like-minded people.
I have extra invites if you want.

So if there isn't a lot of people playing than its boring? Wouldn't that mean that you level up super fast because you have no competition?

Especially in the lower levels you will mostly be getting experience by hacking enemy portals and blowing up their resonators. Without competition there aren't many ways to quickly level up.
Edit: Although not saying that a small amount of players would make the game boring by any means. As long as you have active players on both sides to keep things moving the game will be interesting.

Pinch to zoom quick sand?

Thinking about the N4 as a secondary phone but I played with one in the T-Mobile store and noticed that pinch to zoom seemed to be pretty unresponsive and disappointing and that's putting it lightly. When pinching to zoom it felt as if I was moving my fingers through quick sand. It was as if my fingers had to literally transverse half of the entire screen before the phone started to react. Can anyone else confirm this? Like I said, this will be my secondary phone and my primary will be an iPhone 5 so I will going back and forth between the 2 phones often which will make the poor responsiveness even more noticeable and bloody annoying since the iPhone is very responsive and accurate in this department. So now I'm rethinking my purchase of this phone. Again can anyone confirm this??? Thanks
mine doesn't do this. it is very responsive.. are you talking about having to go out farther when zooming in? i think they designed the zoom in to occur after your fingers have spread over a certain distance so you don't accidentally zoom in when you don't mean to.
Its like people are just finding reason not to buy this phone cause it has real issues or they just like to complain....personal I think your all crazy . My coworker got his nexus 4 last week and its ****ing awesome the camera in HDR mode is amazing the data speeds are top notch and the screen is responsive. I don't know it everyone and there mama was playing with the display phone at T-Mobile ,but here a story I was playing with a Gs3 at T-Mobile and found pictures of a girls ***** on it .

There was another thread on this yesterday - this is actually Google almost certainly designing around someone else's patent on touchscreen usage. They probably figured that what was going on in older versions was too close to Apple's or someone else's precise method for interpreting multitouch input, so they designed something effective but different enough to avoid litigation. There's a reason why neither Apple nor Microsoft have sued Google directly over Android - Google designs around patents pretty well.

I hear ya, but even still it'd pretty annoying and making me think before I buy. Honestly I'm a stock app kinda guy. I like the stock apps, I actually want to use Chrome but I can't, I want to use the stock gallery since it would be more integrated but I can't without this bug/feature this will also make using Google maps bloody annoying more than anything as when using maps there is a lot of zooming in and out. I'm wondering if other ROMs have this issue with the N4 or not.... Hmmm... That would be an indicator if there was more of a real issue/hardware level issue or not. Wondering if Cyanogen, Paranoid, or AOKP would have the same issue...
this is such a moot issue based completely on software filtering/calibration of your touches. Capacitors are hyper sensitive to touches, so much so that you have to tone it down and filter out all the noise... You can easily go into the software and figure out where the pinch-zoom controls are and fix them...
I am running codefireX's build and my pinch to zoom works perfectly in gallery, chrome, maps, camera. Registers my touch input no mater what I try.
If this is a deal breaker for you, I would be more worried about thermal throttling issues tbh... Those are actually hardware related.

So you're saying right out of the box you can go into settings and configure pin h to zoom to react immediately rather than after transversing half the screen before it starts reacting?
Well, this is xda developers where we hack software and improve it for our own uses. Its part of the fun. You would have to get into the kernel for that

What are you doing when this happens . Watching movie Playing a game. Web browsing. Does it do this if your tablet is Turned off ?? My guess too would be speaker. It could be a loose screw a wire not tapped down . Could be just something from the bus ride and your associating it to the device.Could be vibration from the shielding inside the device causes by vibration and noise of the bus itself.Loud and some pitch sounds can actually cause pressure changes in a environment and make objects seem to be moving . Like a Dome Oprah stage .

Screen jitters, force GPU?

So I rooted and froze all I felt comfortable with (almost all of the bloat and non used) and seemed to have a few more moments of jitters. I thought it was my fast moving in and out of apps, or my games causing the hardware to stumble, but now think its totally hardware.
My question is, after switching to force GPU settings in developer options, has anyone noticed it stopping? Or at least a marked decrease in episodes?
Disable HW overlays and force GPU rendering of 2d being the two options I'm using. I just started last night and already I'm noticing things seem much snappier and no stutters.

[Q] Second thoughts about a Note 3

I just ordered a new Note 3 from Amazon and it was darned expensive.
I have a note I which I have used consistently for the last year and a half and I have used it daily. There are signs it might be wearing. I even have some small scratches on the screen. I expect to use the 3 the same way. I loved my 1 but thought I should upgrade before it falls apart.
The question is will I see a significant difference in the 1 and the 3? Is the 3 worth the price
I will appricate any thought you have on this subject
Wait until you get the note 3 use it for a few days and decide for yourself amazon is quite relaxed on returns

The battery life isn't much better than My N7100. However it's a 4g phone which up until now should have meant worse battery life than it's 3g counterpart. It's also a much faster processor and the screen has a much higher ppi and is significantly brighter. All these improvements and no sacrifices so far as battery life is concerned are pretty amazing to me.

Really? I found them quite adaptive. Especially since you can customize the layout of each individual button. The position of it on the screen and 5 different sizes for each button. Even the HUD map on the screen is customizable. I definitely couldn't rock the default controls on GTA 3 and Vice city for mobile. So I suggest you go into the settings

Same here. The new Moga Power series looks really good. They made it better than the v1 and it now can charge your phone while you play.
Ok that's cool I didn't know there was a new version. But I already have a ps3 controller so no point in buying something else. Unless there was something that attached to the phone like a slide case like the iphone one. Then that would be worth buying (except for iphone it costs 100 dollars id only buy it if it was at most 1/3 of that lol )
Amazon version is out now!! At least for the UK. I'm not going to purchase it from there though, I'm waiting for the Google play version.
