Here are a couple of pics comparing the 2 screens(as requested on another thread, I have tried to keep everything as similar as possible brightness on max etc.
Text: The x10 is super sharp when it comes to text, thats one of the major differences i noticed when I got my galaxy S. The galaxy's screen just wasnt as sharp when web browsing etc( but you only notice this if you stare at your screen really close like i do).
Images: This is where the sgs shines, refer to pics. Some say its over saturated some say its just vibrant, either way its definitely better to look at.
Believe it or not, the sgs screen is actually on.

As you can see I have both phones so this is no fanboy comparison.
As i said on the other thread i like the SE Red roses better.
Wow, great job, dude. Black is black on SGS, no doubt.
Thanks a lot
Quick question.
Did the X10 have any screen protector on it when you took these pictures???

I think it had that pre applied one that is stuck on when you buy it, the sgs also had a screen protector which i had applied myself.
just wondering.. correct me if i'm wrong.. but i thought sgs has a 4.0 inch amoled screen. why does galaxy screen look so smaller in this picture?
oh andi think x10's looks more saturated.. and sgs looks more concentrated... does that make any sense?
Would be interested to see the comparison once the X10 has received the 2.1 update.
But the SGS looks good, nice clear colours.

Thats a good point i was wondering myself why the sgs look smaller in the pictures and i have no idea why. I kinda get your second point especially when looking at the rose picture.
+1 on that. Actual visible area of screen looks smaller on SGS.
The text defo sharper on X10 imo altho pink roses better on SGS but red roses better in the later picture on the X10.
I guess its a matter of each to our own and whats available to you at the time you made your purchase. I still love my X10.

I didn't read it because I don't care but I had to comment because the title is great.
Edit I just read it. Interesting stuff. Since ur not a fanboy would you mind doing an in depth comparison?

I can try, anything specific would like to know? If not i will try to find any subtle differences and will write it up tomoz
Nothing in specific. I just thought a comparison from an xda member would be much better than the garbage online.
Next week I'm gonna compare my x10 to the liquid e and iPhone 4.
Ok so its fairly obvious that the camera bites. Is there a decent app on the market which can take nicer pics?
htc camera's always been like this, even if there's an app, i think you will be better of getting to know the limitations, and get used to manually specify the settings, this way you can really get some decent shots with it. the main purpose of a camera in a phone isn't to replace camera's at all, it's a way of having a way of the ability to quickly take a snapshot when you forgot your camera.
learn to hold your hands still, the best thing to do with a HTC phone if you use the camera
and for the app, search the market in the free section, you can always try them out to see if one suite's you

I have to agree when it comes to using the flash the pics are cap all yellow and washed out. It's like the timing is off or the auto white balance is not changing to flash.
A toy camera out of a Christmas cracker could do better.
Example of flash pic
twitpic.com/34l2mp
it seems your camera didn't even focus on that event, the yellow glow can also be caused by a street light nearby? if street light was nearby it uses the flash to fill in the photo, and leaves the shutter open to receive the lighting as it is, so the faces don't shine etc. otherwise the timing and or white balance is of, or even possibly be a smudge on the flash or lens? finger near the flash unit could also cause this.
I took about 10 pics all look the same I ended up using my old n97 which took a perfect pic.
you still get the yellow from the flash indoors aswell and I tried all the white balance setting none look right with the flash.
If no one else is finding this maybe I have a bum phone.

So dose anyone else het pics as bad as me with the flash or should I take my phone back?

ok so its fairly obvious that this guy is rude and obnoxious and doesnt mind insulting a product we all paid a serious amount of money for.
I am a professional photographer specialising in weddings for over 12 years and the camera is perfectly adequate for a phone.

I would say it depends what you are comparing it to. It rubbish compared to a good camera phone like the N86 or N97 but ok compared to the iphone. So if you have only had bad camera phones I guess that's why you may think it ok.

my old nokia n95 camera thats 5 years old takes better photos, though ive found it does take nice close ups, SGS camera is perfectly adequate though
@jeffmason : have you tried setting the flash to 'on' instead of 'auto', mine takes blurry night photos too unless the flash is set to always on.
Hi, has anyone here seen the real Nexus 4 that is going to be sold in Google Play Store? Does the back panel comes in simple glass looks or with the disco-like crystal look?

the phone comes with the 'disco' look back.
the pattern is only visible under certain light conditions tho, its only pronounced in photos because of the flash or because they are using direct lighting for reviews.

It looks classy, not cheap. You'll love it, as we all will. Of course I'm saying all this just by looking at the photos of the phone and a few hands-on videos. I haven't seen or held it myself.
it is much less pronounced in videos compared to pictures (no flash). It's also only visible in certain light conditions and rather subtle in most normal conditions (at least that's what most reviewers said).
Here are some nice pictures of the back: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...phone-that-android-deserves/#design-materials
It does look pretty great and subtle
Yeh it looks like what some dancer from Las Vegas wears...

I never mention it looks cheap. But hell yeah it looks sexy! That is why the nexus caught my eyes with the crystal back panel showed up, LG always come out with nice looking phones like LG Shine and the LG Secret. But I'm not making a jump since I'm using the gnex now.

One of the main gripes I had with my Note 2 was the poor pictures it took. I looked at a lot of the reviews of the S4 and looked at all of the sample pictures on the web that the S4 took. I was thoroughly impressed by how good of quality pics it took and that is want got me hooked on getting it. After getting it I see it does take better pics but at the same time I don't get the quality I saw in the pics on the web.
I was wondering is there anything I can do to maximize the quality of my pictures so I get comparable quality that I saw in the review pictures?
Yeah I'm not sure. I always feel like this as well. Just make sure that you set Anti-Shake to on. That helps me, otherwise all my pics are blurry.
Check your camera and check to see if there's the clear plastic protective shipping film over. I was thinking the same thing about picture quality and found that. It almost looks like it should be there and is a little hard getting off.

Some people say the film makes their camera not focus. I took mine off for good measure
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
I took the film off the first second I got the phone so it's not that.
Try shooting pictures in Rich Tone (HDR). I've noticed consistently better quality pictures.
Ya I kind of noticed that as well but the only problem is whatever you're shooting has to be completely still in order for it to not turn out blurry.
Antishake on or hold your breath when taking pictures
The camera is only as good as the person's skills using it. Don't rely fully on the camera/software itself to do all the hard work for you.
The people who post reviews of these devices generally have decent photography skills and thus their "sample" pics turn out much better than the average user's.
Like stated, try to use HDR. Keep a steady hand by resting it on something or squating down low to the ground with a good steady poise. Play with the focus on different subjects to get the desired focal length as well.

Try Sport mode. But I agree, the S4 sucks big time. My girls iPhone 4 takes better pictures.

People forget the fact that youre not supposed to buy a phone for the pictures it can take...you want a good picture you firstly get the skills needed and get a better camera...tge s4 is probabky the closest youll come but dont expect the same results aa a dslr

As far as photos go from this phone, they're very nice, but sadly, the purple hue is still highly visible in both shots (especially in the area of your cats ears)
I absolutely LOVE my Moto X, but the camera makes me sad. I hope for a fix in an upcoming firmware update.
P.S: Your cat is pretty

Sadly, it's one of the biggest problems this camera has. The problem is more evident in scenes with a lot of white objects or backgrounds.
Take the attached image as an example (yep, I brought Starbucks into a bar, lol)
Thankfully this is something that will likely be fixed in a firmware update.
No offense the first pic you posted is absolutely terrible. The colors are muted out and the entire thing is red.
Unless you're telling me you have red paper towels in your house.
as long as we're doing this. I know nothing about photography, i just thought these were decent pics
the third one i only put because somethign about the water and the way it caught the bird in flight so crisp i thought was amazing
This is with a quick auto correct of some colors and look at the difference. And it still looks like it's got a bit of a red tint.

no issues with the tint... I can fix that in 2 clicks. my problem is the "dry brush filter" look. You can't get those pixels back.
Youre all making laugh, I guess a benefit to being color blind is I don't notice the purple hue:sly:
Sent On my Rooted Moto X
It's a phone that has a camera, I don't expect to shoot National Geographic on this thing, so for me the camera is just fine.
A trick that you can try to prevent some of the redness or out of balance colors (not the purple hue) is to cover the light sensor on the front off the phone with your finger and then find something white to aim at and rebalance the shot before taking the picture. The sensor is to the left of the earpiece. It seems to help a lot when taking pictures in rooms lit by yellower CFLs.

Regarding all of the complaints of the Moto X's camera, are (some or all of) these things fixable by software/firmware updates or is it in the hardware? Anyone know? Details would be nice. Thanks.

I think this is a pretty bad attitude. There are decent cameras in phones that cost just as much or less. There's no reason to make excuses, the camera can be bad, but don't write it off like it's not important or they couldn't include a decent sensor.
