[Q] Nexus 4 with/without blink blink disco disco back panel - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, has anyone here seen the real Nexus 4 that is going to be sold in Google Play Store? Does the back panel comes in simple glass looks or with the disco-like crystal look?

the phone comes with the 'disco' look back.
the pattern is only visible under certain light conditions tho, its only pronounced in photos because of the flash or because they are using direct lighting for reviews.

It looks classy, not cheap. You'll love it, as we all will. Of course I'm saying all this just by looking at the photos of the phone and a few hands-on videos. I haven't seen or held it myself.

it is much less pronounced in videos compared to pictures (no flash). It's also only visible in certain light conditions and rather subtle in most normal conditions (at least that's what most reviewers said).

Here are some nice pictures of the back: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...phone-that-android-deserves/#design-materials
It does look pretty great and subtle

Yeh it looks like what some dancer from Las Vegas wears...

I never mention it looks cheap. But hell yeah it looks sexy! That is why the nexus caught my eyes with the crystal back panel showed up, LG always come out with nice looking phones like LG Shine and the LG Secret. But I'm not making a jump since I'm using the gnex now.

I'm just in awe with this screen. Now with EVO comparison pics!

I can't believe how fantastic it looks compared to LCD. I'm a huge fan of saturated colors (I crank up digital vibrance on my computer), and now my EVO's LCD just looks washed out. Anyone else who switched from LCD to this?

I wouldn't say 'switched' so much, as my Droid is still my main phone, but yes; the screen is so much more beautiful and vibrant than my Droid's LCD. When my Verizon contract is up, SAMOLED will definitely be a requirement for my new phone.

^ When there's black on the screen, it's hard to tell where the screen stops and the casing begins! And when the phone is turned off, it just looks like one sexy slab of obsidian.
I ended up taking back my MT4G because I couldn't stand the washed out colors on the screen. The G2's SLCD was fantastic, but the SAMOLED on this absolutely blow it out of the water.

That's one of the coolest features, in my opinion. I didn't think I'd like the black notification bar after using CyanogenMod for so long, but it just looks like part of the phone!

Pure sex. Umf.
IT'S TOOOO DAMN BRIGHT!
Screen is great, but it's too bright! Was at TRON Legacy midnight showing last night, after the movie, the lights were still down, I turn on my phone and blinded myself! Even manually set to 0% it's way too bright. Makes it hard to use the phone at night when you're laying in bed reading the news.
Heh, you should rip an Avatar DVD and watch it on the SAMOLED. T-Mobile knew what it was doing when it packaged the movie with the Vibrant, because it's an absolutely jaw-dropping combo. My iPhone 4-owning friends are just blown away when I show them movies on my Vibrant.
I lick my super amoled when I am in the bathroom and no one can see me.
Coming from MT4G ( and the inferior screen too ) It's really a big difference.

Pretty sure I saw one in one of the videos today, but it was just the soft-touch surround that was white; back and front are probably still black.

That's just a reflection off of the chrome bezel.
The chrome bezel is only a millimeter or two wide, there's clearly white below that.
HowEVER, it might just be a reflection from the lightbox they're shooting the photo in, but that doesn't really make sense as the soft-touch surround appears to be matte in other footage.
that is either white or a pretty good optical illusion from the materials or the light box...

Google exclusive as to it's employee's? If so I probably wouldn't think they'd go through such a hassle of making the device different color in its entirety just for their staff. For the Nexus Prime it was just a back cover.
I would really like to see how a white version would look like. Currently I have a white Gnex, which is awesome. I'd like a black face and a white back, just like the Gnex. Would be great if Google would shed some light regarding this matter.
It will return as Nexus the Grey to counter Sauron Apple of Mordor

As far as photos go from this phone, they're very nice, but sadly, the purple hue is still highly visible in both shots (especially in the area of your cats ears)
I absolutely LOVE my Moto X, but the camera makes me sad. I hope for a fix in an upcoming firmware update.

Sadly, it's one of the biggest problems this camera has. The problem is more evident in scenes with a lot of white objects or backgrounds.
Take the attached image as an example (yep, I brought Starbucks into a bar, lol)
Thankfully this is something that will likely be fixed in a firmware update.
No offense the first pic you posted is absolutely terrible. The colors are muted out and the entire thing is red.
Unless you're telling me you have red paper towels in your house.
as long as we're doing this. I know nothing about photography, i just thought these were decent pics
the third one i only put because somethign about the water and the way it caught the bird in flight so crisp i thought was amazing
This is with a quick auto correct of some colors and look at the difference. And it still looks like it's got a bit of a red tint.

no issues with the tint... I can fix that in 2 clicks. my problem is the "dry brush filter" look. You can't get those pixels back.
Youre all making laugh, I guess a benefit to being color blind is I don't notice the purple hue:sly:
Sent On my Rooted Moto X
It's a phone that has a camera, I don't expect to shoot National Geographic on this thing, so for me the camera is just fine.
A trick that you can try to prevent some of the redness or out of balance colors (not the purple hue) is to cover the light sensor on the front off the phone with your finger and then find something white to aim at and rebalance the shot before taking the picture. The sensor is to the left of the earpiece. It seems to help a lot when taking pictures in rooms lit by yellower CFLs.

Regarding all of the complaints of the Moto X's camera, are (some or all of) these things fixable by software/firmware updates or is it in the hardware? Anyone know? Details would be nice. Thanks.

I think this is a pretty bad attitude. There are decent cameras in phones that cost just as much or less. There's no reason to make excuses, the camera can be bad, but don't write it off like it's not important or they couldn't include a decent sensor.

Could you share photos of your 6P device -not the camera?

I cannot decide which color of the 6P to get from the press photos of the device, and almost all the reviews used a black device -which actually look better than in the press photos. I thought if people here could take just normal photos of their devices, we'd have the 3 colors of the phone available for everyone before deciding.
Thanks in advance!
Check out the reviews thread. There's one recent video, extremely well done I might add, where he had the Frost one.

I just found the same video Googling Nexus 6P Frost review. I tried Googling Nexus 6P Aluminum review but no luck. I did actually like the Graphite more in reviews videos and photos than in Google press renders. And I didn't like the Frost color in the review video while it looked better in Google press renders. Right now I want to see a video or a photos of the Aluminum 6P before deciding -given how much different the two other colors looked between press renders and actual review photos and videos. Hopefully, someone can share some photos or videos or refer to some.
There's so many videos out there and in threads why are you making us do your search work for you.

Battery Monitor Widget by 3c
It has quite a few values you can put on the widget and it will record your charge/discharge history.
I think it'd still be a good idea if other people with Graphite and Frost colors devices would share similar photos, it'd give a realistic perspective to those willing to buy each color

Thanks for the review, but I meant "users" photos of their devices when they get them, that other people could be interested to see before deciding which colors

Slight pink hue.

I have noticed my unit has a slight pink hue. When tilting device vertically I can see it disappears and its only visible when looking straight on the screen.
I am not used to AMOLED displays, last I used was Galaxy S2 is this a common issue or maybe not an issue?

Are you sure its not your face, mine looks pinkish dead on and looks normal again at an angle.
Switch to sRGB aswel as the out of the box settings look like a HD Cartoon
I don't think it's a face reflection. I have tried sRGB but its way too washed for my liking.

My display is warmer/yellower than I expected straight on (not as much from an angle) - I thought they figured this stuff out by now?
When I turn on sRGB mode it makes it less yellow but too washed out and it doesn't seem to stick after reboot. Anyone?
Put it this way, whites on mine definitely do not look pure white like some reviews have said. I hate how screens can differ....

Yes sounds like mine. I called Google and they said if I want I can have another sent to me (they would put a hold/authorization charge on my account) and then I send the original back when received. Then the hold/charge is dropped. I told them I'd think about it.
Any chance the warmness will change/look more normal over time or no? I'm pretty positive that it is actually more yellow than it is supposed to be compared to "normal" ones, so don't second guess yourself if you think it is. I've had this issue so many times in the past with phones....

Hmm.. It's a bit gutting if something is wrong! I've just managed to set the darn thing up. It does feel awfully yellow... The only way I could know if it wasn't right was to see another one... So maybe I'll have to pop to CPW and see if they have a display one to compare to.. I only have 14 days to do an exchange of needed and I'm already 2 days into that now!
I'd feel stupid if I took this back and nothing was wrong but at the same time I'd feel stupid keeping this handset and finding out that the screen was rubbish!

I've just read online the 5x has had massive issues with yellow screens. Google is replacing them so I'm definitely going to pop into CPW and raise the issue with them. When holding my phone next to my old HTC one m7 its clearly very yellow, which can't be right!
Frustrating as I imagine that CPW won't have a replacement in stock yet...

Every amoled I have has had this to a certain extent or another. My GS6 edge, my Moto Maxx (international version of the turbo).. It's something I have grown use to on amoled displays. I can see it in all of them, even if it's slight. Some people just do not see it or notice it for whatever reason.
I have a felling that all phones will have this "issue".
I had mine against Galaxy S6 edge plus and it seemed that mine has a better colours etc. But it was on the first day and I didn't notice pink/yellow hue so wasn't looking for it in Samsung device.
Regarding CPW exchange stock. I have ordered it this morning in store and got a text it has been despatched so should have it tomorrow.
So don't worry and go to store. Just say you spoke to customer service and they told you to come to store to order new one.

I was just going to ask this - for the people who are saying the screen is great and whites are really white, etc...I mean they can't really be seeing what we are seeing right? It's not awful or terrible but it is definitely noticeable slightly yellowish/warm to me, especially compared to my LCD G3 screen and an iPhone 5 screen.
Do you really think all AMOLEDs are slightly yellow/warm? I can't let myself believe that but at the same time I haven't had an AMOLED in a while so it's hard for me to decide in my mind...

I was talking more about the pinkish hue. Amoled whites have always sucked. lol They are never white but always have a tint to them. With the nexus s it was a blueish tint, with later devices like the GS6, Turbo etc... it's a pinkish tint.. I mean if you just do a search of Insert_any_device_name_that_uses_amoled_screens_here and "pink tint" or "blue tint" or "purple tint" there will be at least one thread or something about it online for every single device.. lol I think some people's eyes aren't as sensitive to it so it's not as noticeable to them

Well I consider mine more yellow than pinkish, and also goes away when you tilt it - but I'm sure everyone sees the temperature slightly different.
I know there are always variations of screens but knowing that there PROBABLY is a much more balanced/correct version of the display out there is an awful feeling - the thought of having to get a second one and the second one will possibly suck too is just the worst (first world problems).
It also sucks that these aren't in local stores to go in and compare the display to.
Fwiw, mines the exact same way. There's a small degree of head-on angle that goes yellow-whites instead of bluish-whites.
Putting it side-by-side with my Turbo, its still a lot less yellow and I never had an issue with the Turbo screen.
