[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Asus Transformer

I currently own the Asus Transformer 16gb model. Is there anyone here who has opted for the Tab after using/owning the Transformer? If so what are your thoughts?
I feel the Transformer screen isn't very sensitive and feel i have to press pretty hard sometimes. Is the Tab any better?
Also I feel the Tab may have more of development community.

This is a question for the general area really, but we are also very nice here in the SGT10.1 threads, so I will also answer your question. Touchscreen is awesome in responsiveness in my opinion, and I like it a lot more than the transformer. Also, the devs we have here, a couple so far, have been working on other devices, like my Captivate, and they are all top notch. Lots of breakthroughs in the last 3 days and we are awaiting a brand new kernel which will make this thing fly

Yeah sorry to throw it in DEV but I figured it included questions regarding ROMs and such My bad.
I can still return the Transformer to Amazon and get the Tab but I want to make sure it's worth keeping. Have they fixed the lag issues and such with the 3.1 update?

I don't own a transformer but the tab is amazing. The screen is amazing. And the dev support is already pretty heavy after only a fee days. The update for touchwiz also looks neat. If ur happy with stock honeycomb I think there is an option but its always good to have more then one choice.

1. Build quality (big big difference)
2. GPS reception
3. Speaker quality
4. Display quality
5. Style (big difference)
To me these 5 reasons are well worthy to throw in an extra $100 and give up micro sd slot plus the mini HDMI slot.

This is my list too. I owned it for about 2 weeks and returned it as well. I am not looking back. The speakers on the transformer suck compared to the 10.1. Display's are both good, but the TF has horrible light bleed, build quality is awesome. This will be the first device I've purchased in a long time that will not need to be exchanged or returned.

Same for me, sold my Transformer the day the Sammy came out .... my only gripe is the damned typing lag on ANY website. This seems to be a Honeycomb issue because both the ASUS and the Samsung have it. Qualitywise (build) the Sammy is far far better.
However I can also understand why the Apple folks love their iPads. I played with one today at the mall and the scroll speed flipping between screens is untouchable by any android device and the 3rd party hardware available everywhere from Walmart to Brookstone is endless. You'll never see that happen to android because there are just too many incarnations. Problem is I hate "square" screens, they are so 90's. If the iPad had the same widescreen form factor as the Android devices I might have had to make a tough decision.

I like them both
I own both devices and I love the tab so much that it is hard to put it down. The transformer get little attention now and will probably get sold, but I like it as well.
The colors and brightness on the tab are much better. I keep my brightness at about 30% and it is as bright as the transformer at 70%. Blues on the transformer are a little gray compared. The IPS display is great, but the view angles on the tab are still good.
The weight, thickness and build quality. The edges are smooth and feels nice in the hand. The transformer have sharp edges and tend to hurt after a while and is also a little heavier.
Sound quality is better and overall screen response is better
3.1 is smoother on the tab. I think Asus could have put a little more effort in 3.1 before releasing it. It seem they spent more time in adding the eye candy over performance.
I do like having the HDMI and microSD ports but in relity I never really used anything but the MicroSD slot, so I can live without them. I use online storage for my music file so the extra storage is no big deal. I don't need to keep tons of movies on the device and don't plan on using it as a media server for my home. It will be used to entertain me while away from home.
There a two apps on the transformer that I wished I had on the tab - MyLibrary and (MyCloud that include SplashTop - currently does not work on the tab).
The tab is about 1/2" shorter, but I think Asus added the extra length so that it matches with the dock.
The carmers - I am not planning on using the device to take photos or make movies, so the quality is no big deal for me.

Switching from the Samsung keyboard to the stock android keyboard fixed alot of the lag. Switching to the dolphin HD browser fixed almost the rest of the lag. An overclocked kernel should take care of the rest.

I have to agree with everyone else here. Returned my Transformer and Dock for the Galaxy Tab. The weight alone sold me. But the camera quality and the display quality sealed it. You will not regret exchanging the Asus for this one.

GT10.1 > Transformer > iPad 2 > Xoom (We all know it).

I returned my Transformer after a little over a week of having it and ordered the Tab 10.1. I have absolutely no regrets at all. The Transformer had light leak issues on 5 places on the screen, 0 with the Tab. The rounded corners on the Tab are much nicer than the sharp squared corners on the Transformer. The tab weighs less, and is thinner which makes it feel much better in the hand. The flash on the camera is nice, and having vibrate functionality is very nice when typing and getting alerts. The overall build quality seems nicer, so I really don't think you would regret returning your Transformer and going with a Tab 10.1.

I've done some reseaerch about all these tablets and yes the build quality on the Transformer laging a bit. I have one. The reason I went with the transformer is the micro sd and keyboard. Second reason, samsung lags on updates!!!!!. I have a captivate, have been running Andromeda3 since samsung doesn't update. Anyway, my screen seems really sensitive, I barely touch the screen and it registers. Yes speakers suck but other than that the transformer is very good, battery life is amazing, dock is nice. I don't have any light leaks either. I was this forum to check out rom dev. Compared to transformer one. One more note. If you want an Ipad get one not a clone

I think that this thread has been tolerated as the development is just now stepping up. However, whether you are joking or not, its comments like yours that just make people mad.
Samsung lags in there updates? This we know. That's why we are here, hovering in the dev section, waiting for these awesome guys to work their magic and unlock the full potential of these devices.
Everyone here is open to comments from helpful users trying to help better the development community and make it a great place to learn and play with our toys. Your comment, and all of its opinions, need to be in the Section market "General" as it does not pertain to the Android development on the SGT10.1 platform.

I have a 10.1v and a friend has a Transformer...
The 10.1v bezel is much slimmer than the Transformer and easily to carry.
It is way lighter too, and it is very significant.
Only plus that the Transformer's screen looks sharper and brighter... at least to me.

I went from the TF to the GT and haven't looked back since. I also sold my iPad and haven missed it since getting the GT.
Basically, what it came down to is... If you already have a laptop or a netbook, get the GT. Otherwise, stick with the TF. Period!

I had two Transformers, each for a couple weeks at a time. Now I've had my Galaxy Tab 10.1 for almost a week.
I think the ASUS Transformer is extremely competitive against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it was an agonizing decision between the two. They have very different strengths and weakness.
What I love about the Transformer is it's low price, the micro SD and mini HDMI ports, and keyboard dock that turns a tablet into a netbook. But the Transformer has very poor speakers and the bezel is extra wide and has corners, the tablet is somewhat uncomfortable in portrait mode.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is super light, great rounded bezel, just absolutely wonderful to hold. PLS display has great colors. But no micro SD, the accessories are very expensive and suck big compared to the ASUS keyboard dock. You'll spend $150 on the Samsung keyboard dock and adapters and still get much less functionality than with the same priced ASUS keyboard dock.
I know I'll need more than 16GB of storage. With the Transformer I was able to spend $400 for the 16GB model and use the 16GB micro SD card I already owned (you can get them on Amazon for $18-25). Lack of micro SD means I had to buy the $600 Galaxy Tab 10.1.
So why did I think the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was worth spending $200 more on? I mostly consume content with my tablet, watch videos, surf the web, read ebooks and mangas. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a pure tablet, it's light and very comfortable and has a great colorful display.
The Transformer is awesome because it can be a netbook. But I decided as cool as that is. I'm not sure Android is really up to the task of really being a laptop or even Windows netbook replacement. I'm not sure I'd see myself actually using that keyboard all that much, as I'd probably rather just get out the laptop instead.
I'm pretty happy with my decision now. Just really hope Samsung is more punctual with it's updates. Because Android 3.x really needs some updating.

I got the 32GB version of the TF. I like ASUS products and have a few of their laptops and have used their motherboards for years. So when the TF came out I got it right away. After playing with it for a few days I noticed how cheaply built it was and the first time I tried to watch a movie in the dark I freaked out! The backlight leakage was crazy bad. I took it back and got another one and it was worse. The backing of the TF was loose and made a creaking sound. The light leakage was worse than the first and the power button failed after 5 days. I took the second one back and got a third. Went to my car and went over it before I left Frys and it had all the same problems. Walked back in and got my money back. ASUS you drooped the ball big time with the TF.
After all that, I got the Galaxy 10.1 and was blown away with the total quality of the thing. Not one issue. Its perfect.
I love this thing and have used it every day.
Good luck to whoever got the TF. Hope yours doesn't have the issues my three different ones had.

I ditched my TF, i can tell you why in one word, Comfort.
I loved my TF, but compared to the Tab it feels bulky and heavy to hold.

The TF700 is a terrible scam.. sorry, but this thing doesn't even work beyond something from the early naughties. It's seriously underpowered, and for an expensive tab it has some bloody cheap internals - Tegra 3 is 2 years old, it was never meant to power a 1080p screen for much more than movies. If you want proof, 1080p is one of the things they're touting with the Tegra 3+. So just grab a Nexus. It has a better screen, anyway.
My first phone was this Samsung brick thing back in 2007, and it could play music. The Infinity can't even do that without it dropping out or stuttering all the time thanks to its terrible NAND.

I think Kookas went of the deep end. TF700 isn't that bad. I think it has been the best 10 inch Android tablet until the Nexus 10 arrives. And the first Tegra 3 device (Transformer Prime I think) came out early this year, so the Tegra 3 isn't that old.
However, unless you NEED a keyboard, I see no reason to buy an Infinity now. Nexus 10 has much better specs and a stock Nexus software experience.

Best Android tab until now isn't really saying much, and actually in terms of specs the Note 10.1 completely surpasses it aside from the screen resolution.
Trust me, it is an absolutely horrific device. It's laggy as all hell while the Nexus 10 does that awesome resolution like a pro. Asus doesn't deserve a penny.

"I decided to return my TF700 today, and await the Nexus 10 release. Sure, some people are saying its "ugly" but it's a beast internally.
I don't use the keyboard dock, nor do I really care to own one. I have a laptop to do any content creation, which I don't do on the go anyway. I'll be using it as a pure consumption device around the house, and it seems like a better fit for me. I even plan to pick up the 16GB model and save a few dollars.
That said, anyone comparing the two devices "Apples to Apples" is just wrong. They appeal to two VERY different types of users, and in my opinion don't even really fall into the same category other than "Android Tablets". The TF700 isn't a bad tablet, and overall I enjoyed using it (CleanROM 2.3 + Data2SD changed my life). No reason for everyone to bash it, it may be the most versatile Android Tablet around for some time and it keeps getting better."

Returning to best buy.. want to restore stock.

Got my note and rooted it in less than 30 min and now I think I'm exchanging it for an Asus that is giving me a good deal. I noticed my firmware is li3.. I have n8013.. where can I find the Odin firmware.. I've only found the lh2.. or does it not matter? Has anyone been successful returning it back to stock with untripped counter? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So I can get a tf300 for 300 dollars right now.. do u think its a bad decision over this note.. I love everything about the note but the screen kills it.. and for 150 dollars less the Asus seems to be the better deal. Anybody want to give me some opinions on this. Still trying to make up my mind. Its really tough.

Wait, the tf300 has about the same size screen as the 10.1 (1280x800). If you want the 1920x1200 screen you need to get the tf700 infinity.

Yes it has the same but its 150 dollars back in my pocket..I'm a lil bummed that there are others tablets for the same price with much better resolution. I have a note 2.. and things look better on it than the 10.1... basically I just want some Input on whether its better to save 150 and go with Asus or stick with the 10.1..

I have the tf300 and when I got the note 10.1 it was not a contest. The note is obviously more responsive. The tf300 has a couple of good roms available and Asus is the best with updates. But I keep the note with me and the wife has the tf300. It might not be that big of an issue to you since you have note II.

The note is way better than the ASUS tf300. The software and interface is better. The Note is faster and more responsive. I chose the Note over the tf700 for the same reason. I owned a Transformer tf101 for the last year and have played with the 300 and 700 extensively. Once I started playing with the Note it was over. I think the screen is quite nice, definitely better than tf101. II've only owned the Note for 2 days but I've been very impressed so far.

The note is by far the best. I had tf201 and tf700. Played with the 300 and it felt like a prime with better Wi-Fi. The note however beats them all hands down all around the block. Sure Asus updates quicker but they feel slower and stutter more. Not to mention you can kiss your warranty goodbye for Asus for custom roms.
Bottom line stick with the note.

Seems to me that someone who updates continuously is doing so because there are major problems with their OS... Look at windows, updates for vista were made everyday but with windows seven there are a lot less.
Just because updates are pushed by Asus doesn't mean its a better tablet, just that it is probably buggier and they're trying to play catchup...
The Note 10.1, though not perfect, was a very stable tablet from the day I powered it up for the first time. JB may be a long time coming but at least it should be a good, stable rom that is pushed out.

Is the note really worth the $450 even if you have no plans on using the s pen.
I played with one for a couple of minutes in bestbuy on Wednesday but couldn't get over the price point especially since i don't see myself using the s pen, worse now that the tf300 is $300 for the 32gb model.
My biggest need is a really good, quick, responsive web browsing experience. It seems like the tegra 3 is not equipped to offer me what I need but im not sure if the exynos can handle it either.

I agree. But this is not why I'm considering it. Apart from the pen and touchwiz I feel like its about the same. Sure less ram but for 300 dollars it seams like a no brainer value. The note is quick I'll give it that and I'm starting to like it more and more but at times I feel like my note 2 has so much more to offer with the s pen, multiwindow jelly bean out the box. I thought the note 10 would be just as good. I can't even hover scroll with the pen like I do with the pen on the note 2.. the screen does look good but I would expect more from the price. I'll prob end up keeping this thing anyways tho.. hearing a lot of negatives about the Asus line. Even tho it seems just as good.

It really comes down to how you use your tablet IMHO. I want to use my tablet like a notebook with a pen and paper like interface, so for me the Note 10.1 was the best fit. The price difference was a factor at first when I was deciding between a tf300,tf700,nexus 10 and Note 10.1. But in the end, the most important thing for me was the user interface on how i used the device. The S-Pen and the applications like S-note, were exactly how I wanted to use a tablet device, so the price difference and even the screen resolution didn't matter nearly as much. I'd say look at how you are planning on using the device, and decide based on that first. Price is a factor but if you save 150 but don't use the device as much because you lost important features you didn't realize were important to you, then the savings weren't worth it IMHO.

I owned the tf300 for three weeks. It was purchased from BB for $269, 16G version. The tf300 was returned to BB and I pickup a note 10.1 for $459. Much more than I wanted to pay but this tablet is great.

I will keep this tablet for three weeks than make a decision.

I didn't have any problems with the bootloader unlock tool by Asus but many others did. If price is an issue then consider the nexus 10 over the tf300. Some of the issues with the tf300 have been fixed because simple tasks like downloading apps would cripple the tablet and cause the play store to force close. A few updates and a move to "Clean Rom" had everything running smooth. You wont be blown away with the note 10.1 because you have the note 2.

I have both the note 2 and the 3g note 10.1 with the jelly bean update. I love the 10.1 because it has not given me any major issues with regards to crashing etc it is super smooth with the quad core and 2gigs of Ram. Yes the display may not be as good as the newer transformers but everything else is much better in my opinion.
With the jelly bean update, it is as good as the note 2 because it contains all of its features but on a larger screen which is far more practical for professional use such as taking notes at meetings etc. The multitasking is also more meaningful on a 10.1 unless you are using the smart dock for the note 2 or connecting via an mhl cable to a larger display.
I have no regrets having both devices. If price is one of the biggest factors for you then go for the Asus otherwise stick to the note and you will not regret this decision. A number of people think initially that the pen is not going to be used that often but after putting it to practical use, they soon change their opinion about it.
I have come from the original transformer so do not notice or mind a reduction in display quality as the notes one is more than adequate and if I want true hd quality, I just connect it to a TV or projector with hd via an mhl lead or the all share cast dongle.

You get what you pay for. As someone said above, the TF300 is a de-contented Prime with better wireless which makes it over a year old both in design and components. The Note supports 5GHz dual-channel Wi-Fi with channel bonding (like the newest iPad), has BT 4.0 (the TF300 is 2.0 and the TF700 3.0), dual-channel RAM, 2GB of RAM (vs. 1GB), Glonass support for location services, two forward facing speakers, a flash for the rear camera, and a larger battery.
You specifically mentioned web browsing. All Asus tablets suffer from IO issues caused by their choice of storage solution. When there are background processes running the browser and UI can become almost unusable. There are hacks available to make things better but the device needs to be unlocked and that voids your warranty. Adding $100 for SquareTrade (unless you don't care about a warranty) puts the two devices closer in price. And multiview, even without S Pen, is a really cool feature in a 10” device.
Here's a component comparison between the TF700 (a "better" device than the TF300) and the Note. If there's a corner that can be cut, Asus will cut it. You'd be better off picking up a used Note or N10 off of eBay or CL to stay in your price range than buying a year-old new TF300.

A review from a former Asus Transformer Pad TF300T user

Recently, I sent my TF300T in for an RMA (after to owning it for 4 months) for it to come back in a worse condition with the plastic case popping out, glass not bonded properly, scratches and a badly scuffed charger/adaptor. I live in the UK and it was the retailer's responsibility to fix the tablet, so when it came back with problems I was offered a replacement or a different tablet of my choice. I chose the Note 10.1. I've had the tablet for around 3 days.
Display
The Note 10.1s display is better than the TF300s. On the Asus Transformer Pad the whites appeared yellow and I had light bleed along the right side of the screen. My Note only has a small amount of bleed along the right side which is only really noticeable in a dark room. Banding was also an issue on the TF300 due to the use of a cheap screen. This doesn't seem to be apparent on the Note 10.1...
Performance
The TF300T suffers constant lags due to the use of cheap NAND flash memory, this caused the browser to repeatedly suffer 'Force close' messages, this doesn't seem to happen on the Note :good:. Running Androbench my Note 10.1 also beats the TF300T.
The processor bests the Tegra 3 found in the TF300T. The extra 1GB of RAM also helps :highfive:
Build Quality
The reviews I read criticised the Note for poor build quality and that it feels 'cheap'. Personally, I think it feels more high end than the TF300T as there appears to be no creaking, unlike my TF300 (which the back felt soft and the left side of the bezel creaked).
Other points
The S-Pen is also intuitive and is a useful addition. Android 4.1 on the Note 10.1 also mostly feels smooth.

i'm also comes from tf300t too. Tf300t only good with hdmi port, keyboard dock and software update really fast. The rest ( performance, battery, screen...) are really sucks though.

my previous android tab was a very low end micromax funbook i think it is called allwinner(not even worth comparing it to this) internationally and when i saw this tab when my nice came here for her holidays it blew me away and i just wanted it got it and im loving it The Spen is nice im just getting the feel of it and getting to understand on the same
i just love this Tab it great way beyond my budget but thanks to samsung having an offer on CC were u dont need to pay any precessing or interest on buying it i got it :laugh::good::good::laugh:

To OP, I agree totally. I recently had the chance to play with my moms TF300, and must say, my GN10.1 is a much nicer experience. Hers kept hanging up and force closing things. She had wanted me to root it so I could remove bloat and try to help it run faster, but I was unable to since reading up and seeing the complex process needed to do so. I was 800 miles away from my fast wifi and laptop and she only had dial up available to me. I was unable to help it and I think it is worse now with 4.1.2 on it from what she says.

i'm also coming from a TF300T and noticed a big difference with the Note.
The whole user experience (even if you don't use the S-pen) is much better, much more stable, smooth and faster overall.
I don't use the s-pen tho, it looks interesting but i mostly use the note on some surface (table, lap, etc) and it's not pratical to use it that way with the pen, i don't miss the s-pen either so may next tablet will probably not be a note, but right now the note is still worth it anyway for the general performance and smoothness, i think it's still the most smooth 10" tablet available.
For me the only drawback is the resolution, although perfectly sufficient it would be nice to have a higher resolution.

Former TF300T user here, too. Tablets perform like night & day. I was fed up with all the stutters on the TF300T. Yes, I DO miss the hdmi out, but the performance & benefits of the Note ae much greater. Plus, I have the Note 2, so I can sync s-notes between them both.

I came from the original Transformer, actually, but I think it's tough to compare the 300T, a budget model, with the Note, the flagship tablet of Samsung..
In any case, I loved the color and look of my Transformer, but I also love the color and look of my Note. I just wish the Note had a keyboard dock as well. That would make my Note completely irreplaceable.

I came from the TF700 and don't miss the overheating slow as molasses tablet at all. ASUS can go to hell.

2014 Vs T701

I have tested the 2014, but extrapolating with the T701, since had previous iterations w/KB and still have the TF300 (wife does anyway), plus reviews popping up now.
Up front, prefer the 2014 due to smaller surface footprint (less bezel), no proprietary charger / data transfer cable and IMO a better overall chipset than the Tegra 4 and I "could" see myself using the pen function. More precise touch and lesser getting the display all mucked up.
The biggie though for the 701 is $150 less and the KB option opens up more connectivity. That said, I did not use the KB much with the previous versions.
Looking forward to some direct comparisons of both devices, none the less. Assuming the media does after their raptures of lustful reviews and focus when the iPad Air and Mini 2 release. Might need to wait for
user reviews.

Well I had the TF700 and just upgraded to the new note 10.1. Before the TF700 I had the TF201. Asus really screwed the pooch on the memory on those and I don't trust them anymore. I had the KB, but the thing that I used it most for was to just charge the tab because of said proprietary port. The only thing I think I will miss is the USB on the dock. But I will just get a USB otg cable and call it a day. I have had the note for a few days and the spen is much more useful than the KB dock in my opinion. Also I think the Tegra 4 is not as good as the exynos. The tegra chips always seem just a tad behind the other leading chip sets.

I owned both the original Transformer and also the Prime(which they screwed up so bad with the metal back). I was going to wait for the T701 looked at it and compared it and feel the Note 10.1 is a much better premium tablet. The T701 looks just like the Prime with a better screen resolution. I have been using the 10.1 since day one, no issues at all and it's very fast. It has more memory, S-Pen, Multi tasking, those things alone should make your decision for you.. yes pricey but worth it for a top of the line tablet. Oh did mention the stereo speakers. ?. Excellent sound compared to the dinky little Speaker on the TF701.

I had the Asus TF700 before the 2014 Edition of the Note 10.1. And there is a world of difference between them. I was initially excited about the TF700 with the hardware keyboard, extended battery, USB, etc, but I grew to really hate that tablet. It was so laggy, so slow, so cheaply assembled, etc. Battery life was actually pretty horrible (worse than my old Galaxy Tab 10.1). Custom ROMS didn't help. (Well, CM10 did perform OK, I just don't like a lot of things about CM10 and actually rather like Touchwiz.)
I have not looked at the TF701, so this post may not be of any actual help. But after my issues with the TF700 and my wife's issues with her TF101 (which have really paled compared to mine), I am completely done with Asus, especially the Transformer line. They are cheap, low performance, pieces of crap. The Note 10.1 2014 Edition may be $150 more, but it is well worth it. From physical build quality to performance, it is worth it.
I find I don't miss the hardware keyboard at all. My hands were really too big for it anyway. Thumb typing using SwiftKey works better. My son already has an OTG cable, so if I NEED full USB, I'll just borrow it, but I haven't needed it yet. Battery life is much better with this Note than on the ASUS even with the keyboard battery. And the S-Pen is so amazing and fun to use. I've never been as excited about a stylus, but I love the S-Pen.
I have used this Note 10.1 2014 Edition more over the last few days (and have had more fun doing so) than I have used the ASUS over the last several months.

I am coming from the Tf201 and will never go back to an Asus product again. I suffered for almost 2 years with that hunk of junk. Constant freezes, anr, reboots, etc. I was shocked to find out 3 versions later they still have not corrected these issues. So far I'm in love with this device. This is how a tablet should be.I was going to hold out for the Nexus 10 until I read Asus was manufacturing it. Get one, you won't regret it.

Former TF701/dock user here and miss it, but don't miss the lag. Had hopes for the TF701, even had it in the cart at Adorama, but decided the speed and pen features of the 10.1 were worth it and picked it up.

I purchased the TF701 as soon as Amazon got it in stock, sooo much faster than my Tf700. Regrettably the new 701 would disconnect from the dock with the slightest touch, after receiving a replacement - +10 to Amazon for their effort - the second one had the same problem. Well, as much as I loved the form factor of the Transformers I had to say goodby to Asus, screw me once and all that. The Samsung rep at Best Buy convinced me to try the Note 10.1 (2014) and even threw in a 10% discount to match a sale NewEgg had going that day. Bottom line: In my opinion there is no other tablet on the market today that even comes close, and I looked at them all. I almost didn't buy the Note because of the s-pen, reviewers were not too keen on it and it seemed like more Samsung bloat, was I ever wrong, never buying a tablet without it. Install Nova Launcher and this thing flies!

I too recommend installing a third-party launcher, I use Next launcher 3D and it's beautifully smooth on the 2014 and gives that bit of extra eye-candy this tablet deserves and can easily handle with no loss of performance.

Barry your picture expresses an overlooked feature I feel. The overall size of the Note 2014 is wonderful. The bezels are at about the perfect size for this form factor. It also makes using it in portrait much easier

I have the tf701 without dock but my note 10.1 2014 is my goto tablet. I just love the extra features and the size. The main reason I got the tf701 is because of tegra optimized games and the option for kb dock but so many issues with the dock that I haven't bought one yet. Without the dock it doesn't compare to the note IMO and probably will be going back to amazon.

I really dig my Note 10-14. I use an OTG with a multiport USB hub. I can use my wireless keybd and mouse at the same time. And they work flawlessly. Now I can do a lot more of my homework on my tablet. Funny how my laptop seems huge now!
I too use Next Launcher. Tablet is very smooth. Still trying to decide on a browser. Might give next browser a shot. My only gripe at this point is not having the ability to add apps to multi window without rooting and such. I'll eventually root; I always do, but not till there is a custom rom that I think I may like.
