Nope. Sammy can go take a hike with their 10.1.
You get a bigger screen, but that's the only major benefit. The Nexus 7 has a better CPU (Tegra 3 vs Tegra 2, quad core vs dual), and is probably going to have a better development scene (however, I have no idea on the current state of development on the GT 10.1).
Edit: Hmm, it also seems to get cellular and rear camera. If you want cellular, and have a want for a rear camera, I don't see it as that bad of a deal.
No, I've never liked 10" tablets, iPads or otherwise. The N7 is the perfect size for me.
Don't need the cellular since I can tether to my HOX, and taking pictures or video with a tablet makes you look like an idiot.
Yeah I like that it has a rear can but do t really need it I have an s3. But I really like the bigger screen and as fas as the development I already feel too caught up with my s3 that I just flashed paranoid android to my n7 and left it alone.
I guess I just wanna feel good about giving up a newer product for an older model

If you can sell the Tab for more than the cost of the Nexus 7, then it might be worth it to make the trade, sell the Tab, and then buy a new Nexus 7.

The Tab 10.1 is a nice device. Its a generation behind in specs. I liked my 10" Transformer but it had a micro SD card and HDMI out. I found it tedious to lug around and eventually stopped using it because of such. Everytime I wanted to use it, it was dead.
I sold my transformer for $200. The N7 was $250+tax. Not sure what the Tab sells for but they are probably being flooded in the market since the 10" Note is out.
Sammy stopped updating the Tab a long time ago. I'm not sure if it even officially got ICS let alone jelly bean. The N7 has JB and will get KeyLime Pie when its released and probably LoliPop.
Tell him to sell it over in the Market and pick up a N7.

I've always hated larger tablets... once you hit 10" tablets I find little reason to not just get a laptop and be done with it. While the N7 is smaller, it's very workable. We're remodeling some areas of our house, and I keep a few pictures and measurement notes down in my N7. When I'm at Lowes, it's nice to pull out the N7 and get a better idea of what I'm facing at home. Since the N7 fits in my back pocket, it's only another +1 to that court.
That's just my 2c though. I've talked to some people who love 10" tablets. I personally don't, and on that premise alone I wouldn't do the trade. That being said, you're also swapping out for slightly older hardware too. Nothing wrong with that if it's worth it, but I see no compelling reason that I personally would do that trade.

the performance is TERRIBLE!!!!
i started using from stock honeycomb 3.1
its laggy beyond words, and i was forced to learn to root and flash custom roms that are 3.2
things got SLIGHTLY better but it was still laggy.
simple things like typing on keyboard, bringing up on screen keyboard, scrolling are still choppy.
then ICS came, and i flash various customs like AOKP and CM9
things got better again, overall UI is acceptable, no where near buttery smooth but still ok.
however only the UI smoothness improved in ICS, apps, games, any slightly 3D games will play in "slow motion" or "stop frame" style.
the tegra2 just dont cut it. its a dissapointment.
i sold my tab10,1 the moment i saw google IO announce nexus 7.
nexus 7 is superior in every way then that tab10.1 in terms of performance, responsiveness.
the only weakness is the small screen, but that gives it another benefit which is better portability.
the tab 10,1 browser crashes on a daily basis.
memory management is terrible even on ics.
try load FB desktop page on tab 10,1 stock browser, keep scrolling down,
as the FB page loads more newsfeeds, the scrolling becomes soo laggy, and it will start FC eventually.
NEVER trade your nexus 7 for tab10.1. you will surely regret it.
I actually did the opposite, sold my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and got the N7. Main reason was the weight and portability, I lasted 30 minutes with the 10.1 in the bath and my arms got tired. With the N7, I can watch movies anywhere, holding anyway I want and it feels great. Plus it's much more snappier (I did install a CM10 nightly on the 10.1 which was much better than its stock ICS but wasn't as great).
Nexus 7 is the best Android tablet out there in my opinion. Not just the best 7 inch, the best. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to tech. I've had an Acer Iconia 10" and 7", Transformer prime, Galaxy tab 2, and now this. Not quite every tablet on the market but a pretty decent cross section. I've also had a close look at a few other tabs.
The only thing that comes close is the transformer prime. That thing is ok but it's harder to hold, much heavier and the dock seems like a nice idea but ends up being a pita in practice.
This thing is a little pocket rocket, very powerful whilst being very easy to hold even for long periods and extremely portable.
By the way the galaxy tab is ****. Samsung don't even bother to support it so it was still on honeycomb when I last checked two weeks ago.

I sold my TF101 today on ebay for 245 no dock 8gb and a leather case. My baby was in good condition. I will be getting a Nexus 7 for now. Until they come up with something higher than 1080p and quad core.
It's funny I'm going from 10.1 to a 7inch. I hate 7 inch tablets but since it's a Google tablet. I'm giving it a try.
I'm going to miss this community. We have so many talented devs here. I hope the Nexus 7 forum is the same.
It will be shipped on Tuesday morning. I have one last day with it.

Nexus 7 is great I have TF101 and N7. Just watch out for screen lift in your device and you might want to wait for a new batch of N7 for them to fix it.
i was going to get a higher res one and/or faster one but now that jellybean is out this thing is so damn fast... i'm pretty picky and i'm actually happy with it. i wish the bezel was smaller though.
looking at the windows 8 tabs since i'm enjoying my samsung focus flash.
It would be interesting to hear a long term (after the honeymoon) report from you six months down the road. Specifically looking to hear what your experience was going from a 10 to a 7.
I waited for the Infinity and now I'm waiting for the Amazon Fire 2. By Sep 6 I will know for sure if the F2 will beat the N7 then decision time!
BTW, I'm keeping my 101s. The 1280x800 res will be here for a long time and the Tegra 2 is not a slouch either.
What do you think the Kindle Fire will have that will make it so compelling? Stock Google love with Tegra 3 and a 216ppi display is pretty hard to beat.

I was considering doing the same, but I thought that the portrait orientation and smaller screen size would outweigh the benefits of the Nexus 7. I'm very happy with my TF101, and if I'm going to get a new tablet it would have to be of a similar size.
you`ll regret it I am afraid, 7 inch is too small.
Had the original galaxy tab and as my first major android device I thought it was wicked. Only issue for me is that it genuinely felt like an over sized smart phone at times so when I got the tf with the dock it just felt like a proper tablet experience.
However, I've heard the nexus7 is a great performer and video and games run real sweet. I sometimes miss that pocket size portability of the gtab...... but then I guess that's why I got my s2.
Thinking about the tf300 but may wait for the infinity and the big price drop that I've been informed about.

My primary reason for getting a 7 is portability and if the F2 can match the N7 with better memory and battery life then I may go for it. Just have to wait and see what Amazon has to offer.

I had a seven inch tablet before my Transformer. It was very portable so I see the attraction to the form factor. My personal preference is for the ten inch though.

I initially didn't want a 7 but as the resolution improved so did the legibility, N7 is definitely one of my choices but Amazon's next tab is about to be announced so holding my breath.
I was considering the N7, but since I have a Galaxy S2 (which, while not GNote-sized, is pretty big already), I don't need a portable tablet. I might switch up or get the Surface tablet though... that keyboard cover looks interesting. But I mean, that's what I thought about the keyboard dock too.
I have both the TF and the N7, and ever since I picked up the N7 about a month ago, that's all I use. The speed is incredible. I've run RaymanFX's JB ROM and CM9, and while both were improvements over stock, it doesn't hold a candle to the smoothness of the N7. Most of my tablet use is browsing in Chrome, and that's also where there's the biggest difference. The performance improvement in other areas isn't as dramatic.
The other major plus is the portability. It fits in my suit pocket, my jacket pocket, and even in the pockets of my shorts. As a result, I'm more likely to carry it around with me. I never bothered tethering before, but since I have the N7 with me often, it comes in handy.
If a keyboard is somewhat important, there are a number of folio cases with BT keyboards available for about $30-40. Sure, it's not as elegant as the TF solution, but it works. Since you're coming from HC/ICS on the TF, I would strongly recommend switching your N7 to the tablet UI. The phone UI just doesn't do it justice.
The N7 will probably be my last Android tablet for a while. I'm looking to pick up the Transformer Book. I'm a Windows consultant, so the idea of a Windows 8 tablet/laptop is pretty appealing. Plus I can run StarCraft .

You took the words out of my mouth, a 7incher is definitely more convenient to carry around. AFA Amazon's K2, if it comes with free 3G like their KDX it could blow away the competition. With GPS and 3G, navigation will be an attractive feature.
So what would you guys suggest, a 10 inch or 7 inch tablet? I'm really torn in the decision to keep my TF101 or "upgrade" to a 7 in Nexus 7. I know it is easier to carry around but is the 3 inch difference in screen size a major difference. I need your opinions!

7 inch on the road, 10 inch or more at home or office. But format is only part of the story, the other consideration is specs like wifi, gps, camera and bluetooth. I intend to have both.
I was going to but the N7 at staples on Tuesday but ima wait for amazon offer (s) first before I spend money. I still need a tablet.i hate using my vita at my college.

for me it´s a simple choice, i´m always with a backpack so 10 or 7 it really doesn´t matter...
but from experience, i found the tf101 a little "tall" for portrait reading... the balance is just not right to do that naturally..
I really want a tablet mostly just for leisure entertainment at the house but also possibly for school work or something. I want an Android tablet because Android is the way to go but for me I like to have the absolute best of the best that's out on the market... I see all kinds of complaints on here about this tablet but as far as I am aware there is not really that great of an Android alternative as powerful as the Nexus 10.
But what I really don't want to happen is for me to buy this tablet for $500+ and then it either not be as good as I want it to be or it to be usurped in a couple months by something far better... So to y'all who own one would you think it's still worth it at this point in time to pick one up? Most likely this summer probably but maybe sooner. Thanks in advance
I bought my N10 about a month ago and I absolutely love it. Out of the Box power it on it updates straight to the Latest build of Jellybean 4.2.2.
The Display and graphics are amazing.
The Battery life is fantastic. (Think Energizer bunny)
The CPU is fast and very fluid.
The only downside in my opinion is 16 & 32 gig. That's it. No SD card slot to upgrade. Though there are ways around that off course. (USB OTB)
The latest update also reserves 385-400mb from ram to GPU. That leaves it with about 1.2gigs of ram which is still decent. No biggie.
Overall I love my N10 and it can only get better with updates and time.
Plus you will always be one of the first to get the latest updates.

Hi, I'm in the same situation as you are. I think I will wait for the next generation of Nexus 10.
Furthermore, I wouldn't go for any other not-Nexus tablet because of the updates directly from Google.
It s a nice tablet if you are lucky to get one without problems . battery and bleeding screen

I just got a N10, pretty smooth, barely had any lags, memory is more than sufficient. Love it!! Get the N10!!!

I also bought the tablet in the last month. I bought mine used off ebay for 440 with a case (compared to the 550 shipped cost from google). It is about to be usurped in the next few months... Tegra 4 as a chipset will lay waste to the tablet on speed. Exnos 5 quad (or 8 core as they call it) will be 30+% faster. Snapdragon 600/800 will also be faster.
Unfortunately, nobody has announced a tablet of note this year so far. I'd expect the Vizio CES tablet to be the standard of Summer 2013 tablets. This means similiar screen resolution (but possibly higher quality) and faster processor.
If I were a financier or economist, I'd question whether owning this tablet for the next 3-6 months is worth the depreciation the tablet will take when newer tablets are released. Questions like "Would I pay an extra $150 to upgrade s Nexus 10 to have SD and Tegra 4 but much slower official updates." If your answer is yes, then the question becomes this... given the new high-end tablet will always be 500, how much would I pay for a Nexus 10 32gb if I plan to sell it this summer for 350 to upgrade. If you wouldn't pay $150 more for Tegra 4 + sd - Nexus updates... then getting the Nexus 10 is a question of do I want to pay today's price and start using it today or would I rather pay tomorrow's price's.
I absolutely love mine, but i'll struggle with myself when they make a refresh, I know in advance I'll be craving it. Still, it's an amazing piece of kit and I use it every day to watch stuff and take notes in class.

Doesnt matter , the nexus 10 will have the fastest GPU available on the exynos line , sgx544mp3 on the Exynos Octa is weaker than the MALI T-604 on the N10 by atleast 20% , Only the 'New' Ipad with its SGX554 MP4 has a faster GPU .
So go ahead and Buy one . Performance is only going to improve with time, since most of the things cannot take advantage of the the A15 architecture on the exynos. The only thing that will destroy the T604 is T678 , that is a monster. But it will only see the light of day in Q4 2013 on consumer products during holiday season .
So you still have the bragging rights for atleast six months.
And Dont forget the screen resolution , that right stays with you for atleast a year , because anything higher (4k) would kill in the battery in a couple of hours.
Screen is mind blowing. I've had every high end android tablet and iPad available and this tablet smokes them all (including the Note 10.1)

I was sold for the N10, but never went through with it because of all of the issues most users here were complaining about. Tbh I'm no longer considering on buying it, I think I rather wait for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and it's probably going to be better than the N10, don't get wrong though N10 is still king of android 10 inches tablets imo.

Best purchase i have made since the original galaxy note. The tablet is perfect for me. Excellent size, amazing screen, and sickeningly fast. I too was extremely worried about all the problems considered by reading through some of the various threads here. went ahead with the purchase anyway and i am so glad i did. This is my first nexus device and i am likely to never leave the brand in the future at least for tablets. Very content with my purchase.
Also very excited to receive OS updates as soon as available from now on.
Hi all, i recently switched from iphone to android phone.. and since my cat knocked my ipad and shatted it on the ground ($250 repair) i feel like junking that and buying an android tablet for a little savings (plus i love customizing with roms etc.)
anyway, I have never even tried an android tablet in the store or seen anyone else with one so I am starting really from square 0 here.
My main questions are:
1) Is the nexus 10 the best 10" (or 7" for the 7) tablet on the market right now?
and if 1 is true:
2) how long has it been out, i.e. how close are we for a due upgrade?
I can be patient here as i do not use the tablet that often but i'd like to have it around for my board exam im taking in august to study on that month.

1) Depends on usage. If you want to tinker with custom Androids and Kernels, yes, it is. Any Nexus tablet is. If other things are important, sometimes other tablets win out instead. Samsung has excellent displays and the S-Pen on the Notes, for example. The Nexus 10 is the best for me (I reflash it almost weekly when its not out on repair >.<)
2) December 18th. It probably won't get an upgrade until Decemberish, and honestly, despite being dual-core, is really daggone fast.
Both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 are great. I own both. I actually prefer the 7 better. It's not as powerful but it's easier to hold and navigate in general. It's a lot more portable as well. But it's just personal preference. Both are top tier tablets. I hope you enjoy whichever you choose.
Owned the Nexus 7 for 4 months then sold it to upgrade to a Nexus 10. The wife has a retina iPad. I can say that the Nexus 10 is the best 10" tablet for ME.
Size wise i love the Nexus 7. Very portable and easy to travel with. Handling the device isnt cumbersome as some 10" tablets. However, the successor is due soon.. I would hold of buying this. The only alternative to the N7 is the Asus Memo Pad. Same size and form factor with an even lower price but the specs is underwhelming. Then comes the Note 8.0 (which i think is pretty awesome) but its priced at $399.
Nexus 10 will have the same general feel of a 10" tablet. Feels a bit lighter and easier to hold than my wifes retina iPad. The screen sharpness is in its own league.. If it didnt have such a high res screen i would have opted for the Note 10.1. I dont think we'll see a successor to this tablet until the end of 2013. This tablet is fast! No slowdowns unlike the Nexus 7 (due to the poor/slow memory Asus used in it). Its cpu is a generation ahead of most quad core cpus currently available.
Thanks for all the opinions so far, really helpful! I strongly considered the 7" variant because I am a physician and it could fit easily in my white coat, but since I use the galaxy note 2 as my phone, or would seem a bit redundant. Well I think I'll go get the nexus 10, thanks!
If you had a choice would you buy the Asus TF300T again?
Personally, I maybe about to switch to the Galaxy Note 10.1 as my Asus TF300T has been sent in for RMA due to banding (something inherent in 4.2, and not an issue it turns out). Anyway, I think I may have the chance to say 'if you can't fix it, I don't want it to my retailer (UK)'.
The things I like about the tablet are:
Fast updates
Smooth (at least some of the time)
The dock
It's creak free (mostly)
The things I dislike:
Very very slow internal storage makes the tablet lag
Creaking from the left bezel
Constant force close messages (improved a bit in 4.2, but still occasionally happening due to I/O issues)
Slow web browsing (improved partially since 4.2)
Edit: Just received my tablet back and it's in a worse condition. I'm now exchanging it with my retailer for a Note 10.1.
i wouldn't cause of the screen quality... i would probably go for a nexus 10
At the price I got mine at...yeah I would.
At the price I got mine (close to 400 euros, last summer), I wouldn't buy it again now. It's a good tablet, has been serving me very well, but technology has moved on and expectations have increased.
If I HAD to buy a tablet now, I would go for something cheaper, a nexus 7 would be okay or something at that price. Very similar to the TF300 in capabilities and much cheaper.
(btw, I use my tablet mostly for educational purposes... to read books, browser the web, youtube etc)
I am waiting for the next generation of tablets where 400 euros will buy me much more than the TF300 currently offers.
Yes, I would buy it again if it was at the same price I originally bought the 32gb tablet for $299 and the blue dock for $49.
I'm very happy with the TF300T. It does everything I need it to. The great Devs we have in the section are an added bonus.

For me personally, I wouldn't buy it again because mine got give me a bit of issues when the touchscreen didn't work properly only after two weeks of having it before i teared the whole thing apart and fixed it which is still a bit wonky but i can cope with it.
But the device itself works very well but like what other have said, the technology with this tablet is a bit outdated compared to other tablet but the form factor of the tablet being able to transform to a netbook is what made me buy it.
If anything I might go with the tf700 as my next tablet or a future generation of the transformer series
I upgraded to the tf300t from a tf100 and I'm really happy with it. I don't like Android on tablets in general, I use Ubuntu mostly as it brings out the full potential, and makes it more of a netbook.
Build quailty isn't great mine scratches really easy being a white model and compared to my tf101 doesn't feel as sturdy. I previously had a samsung windows 8 hybrid tablet that cost waay more than the tf300t and the built quailty was terrible and the Intel atom processor was nothing on the performance of the tegra 3 not to mention the gpu on the tegra is about 5 times faster. I beleive the tf300 is well worth the price.
Although id proberly buy the tf700 if I had another chance.
Hmmm... Is this question asking "if you were to walk into a store today, would you buy the TF300T?" or more like "If you could go back in time, would you still buy it?"
I bought mine right after it launched. My only other real choices were the TF201, the Acer A500 (I think that was the model number; might have been the A510 or something), a Samsung Tab 2, or wait several months for the TF700. If I were to go back to that point in time, I would probably still buy it as it was the best option available.
If I were shopping for a tablet today, I would pass up the TF300T and get a Nexus 10. That's a no-brainer to me. It costs the same as I paid for my TF300T with a way better screen and dev community (not that our dev community isn't great, but let's face it; the TF300T isn't a Nexus).
No I like it but I keep running into random lag issues for no real reason just flipping through the screens it some times lock up for a second. I also don't like the size of it I can't carry it around with me. Its even large for a 10. Inch tablet I got a 10 tablet case and it wouldn't fit. I wanted to get the galaxy tab 7.7 but felt that was extreamly over priced. If I were to buy a tablet now I would either get the note 8.0 or maybe Ipad mini even though I don't really like ios but size is more important to me.

i wouldn't, keyboard is more novelty then useful for me and the tab is a bit too big for the task i use it for, i would just get a nexus 7...or something in that market
maybe if i didn't have a newer laptop and the tf300t was my main laptop then i would be singing a different tune...
I certainly wouldn't. A couple of days after creating this thread my tablet came back in a worse condition. I'm now about to exchange it for a Note 10.1
I wouldn't because I'm completly disappointed with a Tegra 3 CPU, with TF300 screen and battery. It's more likely that my next tablet will be iPad Mini or something really worthy on Android.
But I can't say this tablet is bad. It's okay but there are still some issues I really don't want to face again.

If I was to buy one today, I voted no. Back when I bought it for the price I got it for, yes. It was the best option for $280 when I bought it during the boxing week sale as no other comparable tablet was within a hundred bucks in my area.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 on friday, and can with hand on heart tell that i would never buy another Asus pad again, i have had both the Tf201, and Tf300, and they are slow in everything, compared my new Samsung

I'm very happy with my TF300T with CM10.1. Traded it for an Ipad. It was the best trade IMO.
Maybe I never had a Samsung so I don't notice the lag. The creaking from the left bezel is the only thing that annoys me.
Maybe it's just me but ... running the Tablet with CROMI 4.2.1 (4.5) with Hunds Kernel at 1.6 ghz...
For 250 $ (refurb) ... It's running flawlessly and it's fast.
Very pleased with it.

Could you describe in a little more detail why you are completely disappointed in these three areas?
Tegra 3: Not the fastest but it's a pretty decent processor. Certainly not of the slower ones out there. I think the TF300T is having some performance issues due to its sloooow internal storage (the I/O issue). Where does the Tegra 3 disappoint you?
TF300 screen: I had the chance to check out a Samsung Note 10.1. The screen looked 'better' in the sense of more color saturation and less distance between the display and the surface (not that the TF300 is bad at this). But it wasn't a huge difference. What I wish was better on the TF300, is the glass. It's not very scratch resistant. Why are you completely disappointed in the TF300 screen?
battery: I think the TF300 has a pretty standard/expected battery life. Not outstanding but not too short either. I personally charge once per day or every couple of days. Are there tablets out there with substantially better battery life? The reviews I've seen do not point to such conclusion. (Perhaps you would get an extra hour or two at best?)
