I have root my nexus 7 and also checked it has been rooted with a root check.
Now am trying to pick up a usb stick but stick mount wont pick it up, i dont have a ogt cable but a female to female usb adapter, will this work or do i need the otg cable.
Thanks
i just checked in superSU i dont see stick mount in it only see titanium backup and root checker
I think you must have an OTG-usb cable to read external drives.
You must need an OTG cable. GND and Sense are shorted in an OTG cable but when you are using an femel to femel converter GND or Sense(I don't remember which one) is open so this is not gonna work. You can cut the micro USB's plastic cover and short them to make it working as a OTG. Do on your own risk.

Which rom do you use, Stock or Custom ?
If it's the Stock rom, just install [root] StickMount apk
If it's a custom rom, which kernel ?
Maybe your kernel have some problem, try a another for seeing what's happen, and you can use Stickmount apk also
and you need to use an OTG adapter or cable
You can use Nexus Media Importer even with stock non-rooted device, but you have to use otg adapter or cable, they are really cheap, about 1,5 or 2 USD, so it isn' really big deal. Cheers!

Non of this is gonna work as he is using the wrong adaptor as I mentioned before. Female to Female adaptor doesn't get the job done for an otg cable.

I bought a used MyTouch 3G with the 3.5mm jack. Everything seems to work, except for connecting to either of my windows 7 pc's. I have the oem usb cable that came with the phone. When I plug it in, Windows says the usb device is not recognized and is malfunctioning. I attempted to install the drivers that come with pdanet to no avail. I also installed htc sync. When I plug the phone into my computer, it starts charging, but the taskbar message on the phone does not show it as connected to a pc.
Any ideas here?
try another usb cord?

Try to install the USB drivers that come with the Android SDK?
(I don't think you need the HTC sync stuff for that).
Depending on what ROM you are running, or if it was made by some paranoid network provider, you might not be able to use the phone as a modem (tethering)... I've heard that some network providers disable the tethering feature...
With CM ROM, I've had no problems tethering over USB in: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.4 (Windows XP didn't work at all).
You have to enable the tethering feature first on the phone before it will work (I'm not talking about installing some app from the market, I'm talking about the built-in setting: settings-->wireless&networks-->tethering).
Have you tried mounting your SD card to access it as storage device over USB?
If neither tethering or USB mount wants to pick up when you plug the cable in, I'm guessing your cable is bust or your phone...
Have you tried the same cable on another PC?
Are you using some dodgy USB add-in card or USB hub on your PC? Did Windows 7 install the correct drivers for your USB controller on your motherboard? (do any other USB devices work on your PC?)

I have a google tmobile htc my touch 3g 32B 2.2.1 android and under vista i have a load of usb problems device not recognized. have tried many many things still nothing works. called htc they told me to call ms. perhaps some conflict with the device. problem rooting it with sapping and gold card method and sapping as well. any suggestions?
Maybe you have a corrupted misc partition :0|
just restart your phone... it will surely work
So i recently ordered a new Usb Charging Port & Mic (Microphone) Flex Cable from china for my nexus 4 because the usb function was not working, it doesn't even get recognized on the computer, tried several computers/cables still no usb connection ( even in fastboot). i replaced it yesterday and i still get zero connection to any computer trough the usb cables, what could have gone wrong in my phone for this to happen?

Are you using the cable that came with the phone, use usb 2.0 ports, not 3.0. And try different usb ports, the ones on the back of the pc not the front. That's all I can think of

What I have tried:
Using 3 different cables, all works with other phones.
Using other computers both Windows and Mac.
Tried both Fastboot mode and adb sideload in recovery
Replaced the whole usb flex cable inside the phone
Installing a bunch of drivers adb/usb
still nothing, no connection whatsoever even with the BRAND NEW usb flex cable
I can't seem to get any USB drives working using my USB OTG cable. I have searched on Google and on XDA and everyone else seems to be able t use USB OTG with a Note 3. Why can't I?
My cable is a generic USB OTG cable. It does work because the USB stick lights up blue for a few seconds but then goes off. Also it worked fine on my Samsung Galaxy S3 with these same USB sticks.
Is this an issue with Note 3 and generic USB OTG?
Details
Device: SM-N9005
Rom: X-Note V21
I have tried using:
Stock Kernel
AEL Kernel
LeanKernel
Ultimate Kernel
With the following software:
Paragon NTFS&HFS+
NTFS Mounter
USB OTG Helper
With USB sticks of the following configuration:
32GB Transcend USB 2.0 in NTFS
16GB Kingston DT101 G2 in FAT32
1GB Kingston in FAT32
Please help?
Edit:
My phone does say "USB Connector Connected" when I plug in the USB OTG connector, with or without a USB stick in it.
Edit 2:
I ended up buying this hoping it would help: USB 3.0 OTG
I haven't tried OTG on Note 3 but on my previous phone (Moto X) I was having the same problem as well. Then I found that the Linux permission has to be Enforcing but Permissive to make it work (by default it's permissive I think), now I honestly don't remember how I did that, but a little more Google search might mention something.

Just try Formatting your USB thumb/Pendrive into FAT32 file system, and try it by using Stock Kernel.
Thanks.

Not sure what you mean. enforcing but permissive? SELinux is either enforcing or permissive. On stock kernel it is usually enforcing. On these custom kernels I have used, it is permissive. I will try again on stock kernel to check my sanity but I believe it will not work.

As stated in my post, two of the drives are already in FAT32, however I will now try stock kernel and see if it works.
Edit:
Stock NJ2 kernel, NTFS and FAT32 USB drives don't work.
Hi. Have you tried by flashing Stock firmware using ODIN. ?
Try this:
Hard reset cellphone from recovery.
Install Official Samsung Stock firmware (check for CSC support for your cellphone) using ODIN.

Would this actually help? My ROM is pretty much stock anyway with added extra bits. It makes me think it is the type of cable I am using.
The cable I am using is like this:

@danieljamie
I don't think so it's the cable issue.
Bcoz I have used that cable on my N9005 and it works fine.
I guess you should by hard resetting and flashing Stock firmware.

The problem WAS the cable. I bought that cable I linked to. All my drives work now.
I have a sandisk USB thumb drive going to a USB OTG cable to my Note 3, and it works fine. However, When I boot to TWRP it doesn't work. The USB OTG option isn't there, and if I click on the 'USB' option the box next to it remains unchecked. I am on the latest version of TWRP, and running CM11.
Any ideas would be great.
I am on 2.8.3 and it's still not an option in TWRP. I just watched a video of a note3 with TWRP 2.6. and the guy selects USB otg no problem. Any help would be awesome.
You must use adb to access that feature. Sideload.

Well, I looked into ADB sideload, and flashed CM12 with my Mac, which is definitely cool. Thanks!
But I am no closer to just plugging in a usb otg drive and having TWRP recognize it. Everything I see with ADB Sideload concerns using a PC - nothing with an otg drive.
I am using twrp 2.8.4.0 i don't understand why can't you use it?

I just installed latest update to Android 5.0 and yesterday I received an OTG USB Hub and card reader. It works flawlessly on my LG G2 but when I plug it in the TAB 4 (SM-T535) it doesn't work at all.
I read somewhere that OTG was disabled on the Tab 4. Is that true and is there any custom rom that can enable it?
A,
hi, OTA's are like a box of chocolates, xD
it's more likely the ota killed otg functions, probably kernel/boot.img
look up how to dump your boot.img and upload it and link to me to it.
Also give me a listing of /system/lib/modules/
m
Well then. I will upload the listing. I have rooted the device and running CM 12.1 but still the same - I plug in the usb hub , the power LED on it flashes and that's it. The hub works perfeclty on my LG G2

A,
the boot.img you linked me to is either damaged during upload or dumped incorrectly. Try again by using either dd command
or by coying boot.img from your cwm backup directory.
if the partitioning scheme holds true your boot.img should live on dev/block/mmcblk0p14 so the dd command to dump a copy to /sdcard would be
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 of=/sdcard/sm-t535-boot.img

okay, from default.prop
persist.sys.isUsbOtgEnabled=true
the device you are trying to connect for otg functionality is it powered? [blinky lights]
can you test a mouse or keyboard with a "regular" no frills usb-otg cable?
m
I don't have an usb-otg cable. The usb hub I'm using blinks just once when I plug it in my tablet and that's it. The same device works flawlessly on my LG G2 - the power led stays on.

Ahh, well get hold of a "regular" usb-otg cable from somewhere. The device you are trying to use apparently does pickup but can't be supported most like by the port itself. Samsung and LG are two completely different creatures in the feature department.
Quick question, mtp functions correctly?

Well, I'm going to have to order one... Mtp functions correctly, if by that you mean images and files transfer when connected via USB to my PC ... I'm going to get rid of that Samsung and never get another thing from them again...

Yeah i understand completely, it's a good thing i'm so lo class, my tabs [sm-t330nu sm-t530nu] have been a step up! xD
It's kind of wierd that even the simplest things need to be ordered. You can go to you nearest Shmaples or Guest-Buy and get one of those
dual end flippy thumb drive whatchamacallit doohickeys and that would fit the bill, they have a standard usb connect on one side and usb 2.0/microusb on the other.
i have a usb drive with the blinky light thing but connect it with a standard issue otg cable and have no issues. But definitely thanks for the heads up, i wanted to get one of those usb-steroid hubs, but if i can expect the same results your getting, then i'll skip it.

I live in Bulgaria - it's much cheaper to order those from ebay here. I haven't seen those in the local stores - only online ones, but their prices are ridiculous.

Don't get caught up in brand names either, it's just a usb drive with two connection options.
