I just started a gmail account and set it to forward to my 8125. i've had pop accounts on my phone before and it kept my emails. now, for some reason, I will receive an email, read it, then it's gone. The phone seems to be deleting my emails. any suggestions?
Yep, that's gmail. Do a search, there's a bunch of things you can do that sorta kinda make it work the way you'd think pop3 should instead of the way gmail actually does.
Hey, go into the setting ontop of the page in gmail and then go to fowarding and pop settings , there is an option to turn off that feature and keep a copy in your gmail inbox

My Gmail app won't send emails unless I turn on autosync, however I've found that if I go into my Gmail sent items, and tap refresh a few times, the emails will go out.
I've seen other posts about this problem, and I'm wondering if this can be / will be fixed in the next release of 2.2.
I've setup my Gmail in the regular HTC Mail app alongside my Exchange email, which always sends email either way. I have actually grown to prefer the regular Mail app vs. Gmail at this point.
My next question is - can I get away with using the HTC Mail app, and remove my Gmail settings without losing Gmail sync functionality on the phone, such as contacts, email addresses?
I haven't been able to find a way to remove my Gmail account info from the Gmail app without removing it under Accounts - I would rather use the regular Mail app, but I don't want the regular Gmail app to auto sync alongside my regular Mail app.
If this is fixed in 2.2, I have no worries....Any ideas until then?
Why don't you just turn auto-sync on?
I prefer to leave it off over the weekend to save battery life - I'm not always around a charger.
Hey all, I'm lost on this, maybe I cannot find the feature.
How do you schedule syncing? I can go into settings-accounts & sync, but I don't see anyway to set it up to lets say automatically sync ever hour or every 2 hours.
I'll use my gmail accounts as an example. How can I get them to sync on a schedule, not when the phone itself wants to sync them. Thanks!
Yeah I think I'm a moron becasue I coudn't find the sync buttons anywhere. In my G1 it was pretty easy to find, but not on this phone.
Think button is in accounts, scheduling does not exist here. I think this feature is in droid x
If you go to accounts and do a long touch on your selected account the settings for it will appear. Within this you can change the frequency that your email syncs.
Gmail syncs automatically and its push, that means as soon as you get an email the phone will download it, there is no time to set.
the other accounts (via email app) you can just press the menu button and go to settings when you are in the account and tell it how often you want it to check (5, 10, 15 mintues, etc)

Im pretty sure Gmail does not have "push". Unless they changed it in TouchWiz, Gmail never had push notifications. I use "Tasker" to schedule my syncing every morning at 4am.
I am not sure how long it's been, but it's been a while. I had a blackberry and HD2 and if you use their Gmail app instead of the email app native from the phone, it will be push and that is why there is no setting where you can change how frequent you want it to check. I can send myself an email from my work to my gmail and my phone will alert me whithin 5 seconds no matter how often I send the email... so it is push
I have four Gmail accounts syncing and set to "As items arrive". But I fail to see any sort of option that let's me get a notification/vibration when items do arrive, like the Outlook one.
Can anyone tell me where this notification setting lives? Right now, if I get Gmail items arriving, I don't know until I unlock the phone and check if numbers have popped up on the tile.
Also, are they syncing by WiFi when the screen is off?
I'm not understanding. Since I use only gmail maybe you are teaching me something...
What does the phone do when it is off when a normal POP message is collected vs how an imap is collected vs how a exchange is collected?
How do those differ from gmail?
My gmail makes a noise, a short vibrate and then the tile indicates the number of unread.
Does outlook, exchange, pop, or imap act differently?

When I unlock my phone, the WiFi status icon animates and "reconnects". Leading me to believe that when my phone is locked, it isn't using WiFi to do any syncing. This worries me.
My Exchange Outlook makes noise, vibrates, and updates the tile. But my Gmail things only seem to be updating the tile - so I was hoping there was a setting somewhere I just overlooked...
You know what, perhaps the secondary accounts dont get the same notifications as the primary or something weird. Maybe commit to a hard reset, setup only the gmail and see how it acts...I know there is goofy stuff with the calendar that is shown as the main one...
Not sure. I think we will get far more interaction int he at&t forums on certain items but it feels unnatural to leave my precious...my precious! XDA
I have one Windows Live, and 3 Gmail accounts linked to my phone. All my accounts give me the same alert sound I chose in the "ringtones & sound" settings of the phone. All are set to receive as sent. Ive tested, and showed coworkers a few times, emails always seem to arrive with in 30 seconds of sending an email to one of my accounts.

My exchange (work), windows live, yahoo, and gmail accounts are all working in terms of getting the notification via sound and a number of unread messages on the tile.
What is weird is that when I check the lock screen, I see icons for any unread exchange, windows live and yahoo e-mail. I never see an icon for unread gmail on the lock screen, I have to swipe up and check the tiles.
Is this what everyone else is seeing? No big deal, but I would like to see an icon for unread gmail on the lock screen. Oh, I have the Samsung Focus.

I have gmail, WLive and Exchange and I get unread count on lock screen for all three of them on my Focus. I have the alert sound turned off so can't be sure about it.

Thanks for the feedback dhan911. I may delete my two gmail accounts from the Focus and set them up again.

I think WP7 only shows your first 3 email accounts on the lock screen, each in a different position along the bottom.
I have 4 email accounts syncing with my phone (in this order): Gmail, School mail (essentially Gmail), Work 1 email (Exchange), and Work 2 email (Exchange). I can see notifications on the lock screen from my Gmail, school mail, and my work 1 email, but not my work 2 email. I do receive notification sound and vibration for all, however.

Thanks bremic9188, I am seeing icons for three e-mail accounts on the lockscreen, but am getting notifications for all five accounts. Sounds like that just may be the deal.
Another thought. If you are setting it to "As Items Arrive", why not try setting it up as an OutLook Exchange account?
First, delete the previous Gmail Account.
Now, setup a new account, select 'Outlook'. Use your Gmail info. When it fails, enter Your Full Email Address as the User name. When it fails again, select 'advanced' and enter 'm.google.com' as the Server, then select 'show all settings'. Now select any prefered settings, such as turning off Contacts and Calendar if prefered so it only grabs email. Probably change the Account name to Gmail, etc. Now hit 'sign in' and you should be set. It will operate exactly like an Exchange Account.
For GMail, I get my emails instantly. Just wondering if I have Hotmail, do I get emails instantly too? Thanks.
I had a problem with this, too. You have to set it up in the Email app and set the push notifications for each account you have.
I had a problem at first because I have a Gmail account and a Hotmail account on my phone. Everything worked, but when I got a new email from Gmail, I also received a notification from the Gmail app as well as the Email app. It took me a little bit to figure out how to get rid of that annoyance (go into Gmail app and turn off notifications).

Try the Outlook.com app.
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.outlook
It has push capabilities.
You have to have sync enabled as well if you don't already (a.k.a. Settings>Data>auto-sync app data). Without sync enabled it won't matter if you have your exchange accts, Hotmail, etc... set to Push in the stock email app. I get my corporate exchange acct, and hotmail messages, more or less "right away".
