Does anyone else have same problem The s health is always re setting to some earlier number. It does count the steps. But after some time automatically resets to some weird number.
Please help. I also complained to Samsung. They just gave some weird reply and basically said that there is no such issue.
Other similar apps from Google play are consuming too much battery.
Yup happened to me i had 8000 steps then i look at it i had 5200 -.- beyond annoying ...

Not sure I got you. If it reset the count on you the NEXT day, that is probably normal - it shows stats daily. You scroll the days on top of the screen to view history.
I do however notice that for me it resets a few times a day: I would walk 200 steps, enjoying the moving counter, then 5 minutes later the counter is back to before I started the walk.
I think it is either because it tries to not count small trips, or it is because once the program is running in background, and gets close by Android, it loses the current count.
I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW what the exact reason is, and how to make this work. My ages old ipod calculates steps better at this point
Just download accupedo. It works great and comes with a widget.

IMO WalkDroid it more accurate, very simple to use, and comes with a small minimalistic Widget. It's free and do not consume that much battery :good:
! BUT BUT BUT ... what the F....# why are we talking about 3. party apps?
Build in pedometer is one of the reasons to get S4!
It should just work out of the box with low power consumption ... typical Samsung crap unfinished SW!

Send a mail to Samsung! Lets show them that it's damned annoying that they release BETA SW!
This is happening to me as well.
So I'm aware this thread is three years old, and I wouldn't be surprised if no one reads this, but I found it looking for information so maybe someone else will too.
To me, this sounds like a date/time issue. Check those settings and make sure that it is set to update automatically.

I have had this phone for about 2 months now and everything has been exceptional with the phone. Have seen people complain about the battery life, however it has been really good as far as my experience is concerned. However since a week I have seen the battery screwing up a lot... A LOT.
I always used to charge my phone daily in night. Plug it in..set an alarm of 3.5 hours (yes it takes 3.5 hours to fully charge from less than 10% stage) wake up..turn charging off..sleep back. Okay, some of u might think it is stupid but can’t risk of leaving it on charge the whole night and burn my phone. Anyhow, so, since a week what I do is I charge my phone whenever I want (read it on a few thread and articles)..be it 50%... 80% or even 92%. I just make sure its 100% whenever I leave home.
But something weird has started happening... The battery percentage keeps on changing.. For instance:
when I unplug it..its 100%.. within minutes of usage it drops to 99..then 98.. then 97 and suddenly it rises back to 100%. (Pics attached)
Sometimes when its on charge and I come to check SMSz and reply them.. battery % suddenly drops.. e.g: if its at 99%... it will suddenly change to 96% in a second and in a minute goes back to 99% .. so on and so forth. And sometimes even when its charging..if it is at 80%, it will suddenly shoot up to 100%. The percentage doesn’t change even after a reboot. Weird, isn’t it?
Now the most weird issue, since yesterday the battery life and dropped to 50% less. I used to get 4 hours OST and now I hardly get 2 hours. During night, the battery used to drop 2% in about 6 to 7 hours and yesterday it dropped 15%. There was this one time when it dropped 9% in 6.5 hours (pics attached). Tried seeing through Wale Lock Detector but there were no Awakes during deep sleep. Too weird :s
I don’t really know where did I phuck up as I haven’t installed any shaddy apps or something. Please advice.
My phone info:
All stock. No root (and not looking). No custom Roms whatsoever.
TL;DR... Battery acts weirdly. Shows inconsistent percentages. Suddenly shoots up. Suddenly Drops. And now the On Screen Time has reduced 50%.
It sounds like it's nothing more than a bug.

Thanks for ur reply. How to figure it out? And measures should be taken? Any suggestions?
this has really kept me worried since a few days.
This is "normal" for the N4, and the most/all of them do it. Unreliable drivers, or a hardware fault, not sure.
Here are other threads about the various battery bugs, but there are many more:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012769
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086462

I know I searched many threads before posting and mostly had the Shooting up issue only, when charging.
Anyhow, this normal behavior has reduced my battery life a lot.. which I am not liking .. What to do?

Both my N4's (different H/W revisions) have been doing the 100 to 98 to 100 thing as well since new. Battery life is still excellent for me. An RMA would probably do the same.
Happens with my nexus 4 too. But this hasn't reduced my battery life at all...

You're pretty much stuck with that phone as you only have 15 days to RMA a device, your only option would be to send it into LG for a repair. My battery has acted up like this once so I stopped using the stock charger and it hasn't happened since.

Rebooting might help. Could also be an app that updated that now doesn't play nice. You could try a factory reset just to clear out some crap but I'd back everything up just in case first. Not sure if a factory reset deletes all your user data in memory or not. I only did it once right after I got the phone so can't remember. Hate to lose all your pictures, files, etc. that aren't backed up.

Yeah, just go to settings, backup & reset and click factory reset.
By the way, I notice you use battery guru and I was wondering if that application really helps in saving/boosting battery life. Personally I like "Greenify". It's a great app.

It's normal. The N4 isn't great about showing the exact battery life. In fact, what you see isn't the true percentage, it's an estimation. Don't worry too much about it!

This is a question I can't answer along with any facts. I tried disabling it for 2 days and I noticed the OST reduced from 4 hours to 3.xx hours. May its placebo or something but then I enabled it...thinking if it's not doing any good then it's not doing any harm either.

Hmmm, I didn't know that. But why is that? Any apps or something to show the exact battery percentage left?
Happens to me once in awhile. Do a quick reboot, and if that fixes it, I would not worry too much.
Hmmm..
Yesterday when I woke up in morning.. the battery lost 2% only in 6 hours. I felt SOOOO relieved that my "good battery" is back. But who knew what was to come... today I woke up after 7 hours and the battery lost 15% .
My usage is always the same. I force close all the apps I use daily and turn wifi etc all off. So i doubt if its any app.
My experience with my S4A has been amazingly flawless up until yesterday, when it started experiencing one of the issues that killed my experience with the HTC One- random freezes. And what's strange about it is that they are the same type of freezes that my One experienced, only when browsing the web or using an internet based app like Pulse. It has happened 3 times since yesterday and is so bad that I've had to pull the battery to even get it to reboot. Which brings me to one of my suspicions...
The only thing that has changed between me getting the phone set up originally and when the freezes began was the fact that I started swapping batteries instead of charging the phone. Now, phone batteries nowadays are not just like your average AA cell, it has circuitry in it and NFC stuff... is it possible that a defective battery could be the culprit of my woes? I just put in my original battery and am gonna just wait and see if it happens. The other battery that I've been using is a Samsung OEM battery and not a cheap one. I did root and freeze a bunch of stuff, but nothing exotic, and it was fine until yesterday. I doubt anything I did caused this.
Has anyone else experienced any freezes like this? Help me solve this, I really want to keep this phone (at least until the next latest and greatest comes out). TIA

Same here. Nothing I froze should have any affect on system stability.
I Haven't had any issues since I've had the phone, going on 3 weeks. I've been rooted and have froze apps in TB with no problems since geohot gave us root. Also have done some other root mods, and have not experienced any issues.
Sounds like just some bad hardware circulating.

Man I REALLY hope it's not a hardware issue. I'm so tired of doing the repeated exchange thing. I went through 5 One X's before I found a suitable one, saw that pattern emerging with the One (had 2, both with same issues) and was really hoping the S4A was going to be the answer to my woes. I really love this phone but if it ends up being a hardware thing, I will be incredibly disheartened.

I dunno... My box is in another state so I won't be able to check it for a few weeks. I bought it on the very first day it was available if that helps any. On a side note, I put my original battery in last night and it hasn't locked up on me since. We'll see what happens by the end of the day.

The only thing I know I was doing at the time was watching a YouTube video then pressed pause.
Next thing you know I picked it up hit the power... Nothing. Hit menu... Nothing. The blue LED was just the normal notification indicator, so I knew it hadn't powered off... Resulted in a battery pull.
I also know that I didn't get any messages or new notifications while the screen was off.

I ALWAYS have issues restoring from titanium backup, esp going from one phone to another. My suggestion is to factory reset and start with a clean slate, cas only then can u verify a hardware issue.

I know on the Captivate the Build Number could be found under the battery (can be found there on the S4A as well) and it was the year/month that the phone was built, or so they say. My S4A Build number is 1306 so I'm guessing it was built the beginning of June...

I would like to know if you have had any more problems since you put your original battery back in? If you could give a update I would really appreciate it. I really think the active is a great phone and I truly like it but if people are having a lot of issues with it, I'll just return it and get something else to save myself a headache down the road. gf has had similar issues; heres what fixed it.
battery pull
factory reset/restore
reboot
battery pull
reboot
root/etc/restore from there. check to make sure you dont have custom CPU voltage/speed mods enabled; i believe this was the initial culprit, though even after resetting them to stock it would still lock up. it only did it 3 times, and usually right after a new mod, but ONLY if CPU values were changed. after the above procedure, she redid all her cpu values but only AFTER all mods were installed, rebooted, and everything works great again.

Same problems no matter which battery. It seems to happen most when I'm using Chrome so I deleted the updates but it's still doing it. It happened while playing a game today which it's never done before. Next step is to freeze Chrome and see if that helps. If not, then I'm gonna factory reset and if that doesn't work, I'm gonna have to exchange it. I really did not want to have to deal with this. With my ridiculous work schedule I don't have the time or the energy. I might just start looking for a different phone because I'm sick of having issues like this.

I would say if the factory reset does not work than it is the phone itself. I had issues like this in the past with my old infuse and I did a factory reset and it took care of it. Hopefully that will help you out so you can keep your phone. Thanks for replying.

Yeah bud, I really hope a reset works. I might do it tomorrow, I should have enough time. I'm just frustrated that I'm having identical issues with the S4A that I had on my One. I was really hoping to find a phone that just works. I don't think I've had a problem free phone since my Epic 4G Touch. My One X had issues (though my 5th one was near perfect), my iPhone 5 was horrible, both my Ones had problems, and now this. I'm just venting now but I'm seriously tired of it. I've got my eye on that new Sony i1 that's coming out in a couple months, I really love their current design choices and I've never tried a Sony before. Or maybe the next Nexus. Who knows. I just don't want to deal with this crap anymore.

Idk if I wiped cache and dalvic but no I didn't restore anything from tb I restored apps from kies because I got the mf9 update from kies.
I wpuld suggest Backup your apps/data using mybackup. Redownload ROM, go into recovery, wipe /data /cache /dalvic, reflash, and restore apps (apks w/o data I get FCS fro, apk+data) and data. Should fix your battery problem.

I say go odin back to stock mf9 and check whether your phone still gets hot or anything and to let your battery sink in for awhile then root and install your rom. Before doing this back up apps and internal memory since it will wipe it clean.

Having the same problem here.
Any help appreciated.
Same, MF9 update from MDL stock, unrooted
I'm having the same issue (coming from MDL stock, unrooted).
Is it the ROM? Is it Google Play? I'm not sure anymore, but i'm severely annoyed.
I had this problem until
I was experiencing the same issue on my phone. note I'm stock and not rooted. Until I updated the samsung apps.
For some reason the samsung app store had an update and was constantly waking my phone for the update, but because I had never agreed to the TOS(becuase I never opened the app) it wouldn't update resulting in battery drain.
I stumbled on the answer in a forum in regards to the G Note II. I was skeptical as to why it wouldn;t show the samsung app as being the culprit(something about using the google services core functions to update), but I know that it worked.
I'm sure an experienced dev can better explain why it shows as android os and not the Samsung app causing the drain.
If you already removed/froze those apps though I suppose you have a different issue.

You could try a different kernel too. I use AGAT's Kernel. That kernel gives me SO much more battery juice.

Same thing has been happening to me since last night I woke up to my phone charging at 150+ degrees and ever since ive had crazy battery drain, and the android core apps is the main suspect

I've read of this happening with the N2 as well...
My N900A on AT&T absolutely will not keep time. I've tried every combination of time settings (sync to network checked and unchecked, sync to timezone synced and unchecked) and my phone ends up several minutes behind every time I lock it, go to do something else and come back to it. This morning my alarm to wake up was 40 minutes late because the phone was inexplicably 40 minutes behind. I set the time manually according to my PC which runs ntpd and it STILL ends up slow. If I have it set to sync to network time, I can force it to resync by entering airplane mode and then disabling it. If that's my only work-around, I'd have to do dozens of times a day and my alarm in the morning would still be late.
Does anyone else's $750 toy have issues with this simple task that my microwave mastered years ago? I wish I could just run a proper NTP service on it and force it to sync every 60 seconds either to my router or to the pool.
Well first of all that is extremely weird, and if I had that issue with my Note3 I would go insane.
For now mine doesn't have this problem and the time keeping is spot on.
Check out "ClockSync"

But... Anyways, I think it might be better if you could exchange it for a new device... Maybe you got a lemon?
Best of luck!

Thanks for the input--Clocksync looks useful but root's required for automatic sync it says, and I have the securely locked, highly incapable (for now) AT&T variant. It should still prove useful for diagnostics--wondering if this is extreme drift or if it's being reset somehow to some totally incorrect time while the phone is locked. The clock stays accurate as long as I watch it.
The only way I could see it being hardware-related is if it had a battery for maintaining time like a CMOS battery or one in a game console, and I'd be shocked if any smartphone had this. It's a serious problem but I can't imagine it being exclusive to my particular model. A bug most people haven't run in to perhaps, but something software-related nonetheless.
Edit: Someone with a Note 2 with the same problem. Then again, after staring at ClockSync for some time, the local offset isn't changing significantly which suggests drift isn't the problem at all. What is I don't know, but it appears to only happen when I'm not using the phone.
You welcome and sorry to hear that...
Yes, for automatic mode the app needs root privilege.

Just confirmed it's drift.
When active, the phone keeps time well.
I just allowed it to sleep for 10 minutes then checked ClockSync: it had drifted 29 seconds behind. Totally unacceptable but I'm just going to use an old-fashioned alarm clock under the expectation that eventually I'll be able to root it and have it sync automatically, and frequently.
I agree that you should return it. Even if a hardware problem seems inconceivable, it is an obvious, unacceptable problem. And very likely the next one you get, for whatever reason will probably not do that. Or by changing phones and setting it all up again you may stumble upon the solution.

Thanks. I'm starting to consider getting a replacement as crazy as losing seconds while in sleep mode being a hardware issue is. I'm still curious as to if anyone else is experiencing this. With the Note 2 it seemed to be exclusively an AT&T problem, and it apparently was never fixed.
This kept my phone awake for an hour. Anyone know what this is?

Indeed. You can see this yourself within BBS (or other similar applications) by changed the point at which you wish to view statistics. For example, set it to list all events since the device was booted and it will show up. Now change this to only view events since the device was last unplugged off the charger. Now it's no longer there and since it's only happening while the device is charging, it's nothing to worry over.
I haven't researched what this service is though, but combined with the logic of what I started and what NervGaz said (awesome name the easy), I'm certain that it isn't having any ill effect on battery like all. I started monitoring battery consumption again street the OTA KitKat update because of several complaints I read about and was trying to help then out as MANY of them were suggesting just to do a factory reset and I had jump and say something because a factory reset is a drastic last measure attempt and quite honestly told them that a reset won't help a thing since they will go back to the same habits as before, meaning installing the same battery sucking applications (*cough* Facebook) or have apps such that set to sync all the time, etc.
Even if it was an issue brought on by a bad KitKat installation, the phone can always be fixed (with the knowledge i guess) without resorting to a factory reset. I've never had to perform one on my life, even now using my unrooted replacements G2. Never got around to rooting this one and also currently using apps which require me to remain unrooted. Now, being that I'm unrooted now, there could be the small chance of a system file getting corrupted etc that I wouldn't be able to fix, but if that happened I'd just root, fix the issue, and unroot.
Kind of went of track there, most likely due to the fact that performing a factory reset is always thrown around as the first step in trying to solve any issue on the phone. In rare cases like a corrupted file in a directory you can't access and you don't want to out can't root your phone, then yes. The Verizon telephone service people (I don't like giving them a title...some are very good at what they do but...we won't go there) are famously guilty for using resets the magic portion that cures all ailments.
Anyways, the point that I was trying to make before going on that rant was those posts on the other forum was what prompted me to investigate battery concerns, because from what I thought, KitKat was supposed to improve on battery consumption by (no clue the accuracy that numbers as I don't have an official source) up to 20%.
On KitKat I've been getting around 5-6 hours of battery life. So far I'm at 37% battery left, with 4 hours and 17 minutes since being unplugged with an estimated 1 hour and 57 minutes left. Doesn't sound very good does it for the average G2 does it? Not until you realize screen on time has been 4 hours and 6 minutes, with my main activities being surfing forums and typing a LOT as well as some time dedicated to my favorite mobile game at the moment which also happens to use more battery than ant other game I've played...Avabel Online (IgN is Styrael if anyone plays - lvl 64 gunslinger)
I haven't run across anything out of the ordinary yet when it comes to battery life but kids still early. Sorry for the long post there, I think I'll get back to Avabel. I hope the 100% exp, jexp (job experience), and drop rare bonuses are still in effect.
