I understand that the bootloader is locked. I see articles from Techsites that say to avoid purchasing the phone due to the locked bootloader and bloatware and make it seem like it can never be unlocked.. I also saw where Cyanogen said to avoid purchasing phone due to the locked bootloader. Im sure nothing is never and eventually it will be unlocked.....or am I wrong and it cant no matter what is donr.. if the bootloader is unlocked will be able to run custom roms again? Is there any phone on AT&T that you guys feel is comprehable to the S4 that can run custom roms.

Do you have one? Is it pretty comparable to S4?

No I do not but I know a few who have it. They like it a lot and the build is exceptional. But if the S4 had a unlocked bootloader they would switch over in a heartbeat lol

No pressures but why dont you think about donating in this thread, hopefully the incentive can push a dev/devs to unlock this bad boy before our 2 weeks run out

My fiancee got the HTC One yesterday and she loves it. I haven't played with it to much but it's really nice I would say it's comparable to the s4 hardware wise. The front facing speakers are nice but not a deal breaker. I don't care for the lack of a menu button, it force most apps to put a three dot menu across the bottom using up value screen space. Software wise, I think sense is totally different experience than touch wiz. It's cool but I like having toggles in my notification tray to change settings on the fly. The one screen does have some nice colors to it though.
Okay so what im gathering is the BL could possibly be unlocked..thanks ill donate

Dude it will be unlocked within a month tops in sure. S3 was unlocked Note 2 was unlocked etc etc. It will get unlocked, just not today.
It could take months tho or it may never happen. T-Mobile s4 cones unlocked. I'm thinking devs are gonna jump ship too . Why deal with this locked bullsh1t when u don't need to
SENT FROM MY LTEVO
You could always give it time, sell your AT&T S4 if it never gets unlocked and buy the tmobile version. This way if it gets unlocked you can just hold out. If not sell and buy... As long as it is in like new condition you will make about the same. Unlocking the sim will only be about 15 bucks and you are set. Plus that will give devs time to build roms for it and so on.

hi all. last night i flashed cm10 (epinter). loved it for an alpha. but than today i went to the mall cause my wife wanted to buy some stuff, meanwhile i passed my time to bestbuy mobile. she was eligible for an upgrade device. and i discovered that i could trade my beloved atrix 4g for a value of 150$. long story short I added 50$ (+36$ activation fee for att suckers) and ended up with the SGS3. bigger and better finally true.

You're gonna love the GS3. I upgraded about 3 weeks ago. Screen, speed, and ICS are awesome. Touchwiz is also much better than Motoblur (although I've already started using Nova as my launcher).
That said, my daughter is loving the Atrix and lapdock that I handed down to her. Such an awesome phone that I couldn't part with it as long as someone in my family could use it.
There are a few areas however that the Atrix still beats the GS3. The Atrix bluetooth radio is better. Hooks up faster to my car, and has significantly better range with my headphones at the gym. The cell radio on my GS3 also flips between 3G and Edge more than the Atrix did (sorry, no LTE in my area yet). Also, I'm sad to say that the Atrix has better battery life too.
So, bottom line is that the GS3 is an awesome phone (really love the camera too), but the Atrix still holds its own for an older phone. Gotta love all the choices we have with Android!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Our company has 4 atrix's... 2 are stock blur and 2 are ics/jb and afaik there are a lot less dropped calls/freezing/glitching on the stock blur roms than the experimental kangs. The only complaints with android 4 is the camera problems! I sure wish motorola would hurry up and release ICS or a lot more people are going to jump ship.
I know I'm eyeing the SGS3. Itis pretty much guaranteed to get updated CM builds., I don't give two craps about Touchwiz, though. The only thing holding me back is that, specs wise, it's not a huge upgrade from the Atrix. So I keep thinking it's probably not worth the upgrade cost.

The GS3 is too big for my liking. Even my SGSII I wish would have a smaller form factor sometimes as well. Atrix with a TPU Case IMO is the perfect size for a cell phone.
If the next Nexus phone has the same size as the Atrix, plus had MicroSD support. Oh man... Yeah that would hold me over for a LONNNNNG time...

And on another note, the atrix is by far the "crappiest" phone on the market. You're obviously not familiar with the Motorola flipside that att STILL sells but can't even get a proper recovery and is forced to stay completely stock, although rooted, if you want a proper working phone.

i asked them if there will be any difference if the atrix was unlocked. they said NO!

dont know if atrix 4g bought elsewhere can be trade in on bestbuy mobile.

Im sure there will be sales on black friday and close to Christmas. The risk of waiting though is that if you are interested in rooting/safe strap, there may be an ota between now and then that could block the current exploits.
I'd wait for the developer edition.
Logically speaking it's like a stock...reading through the thread it's just a matter of time to get the bootloader unlocked. .it's been done before it's gonna be done again. ..why wait to pay a higher price for pretty much the same device that's likely going to be unlocked in no time..

You can get it price matched at Best Buy on Newegg.com's price ($229 for new lines/$259 for upgrades). That's a pretty good discount.
Go ahead and buy it now if you want Root. If you're not planning on Rooting your phone then you can afford to wait a little. Remember this though, the longer you wait, the longer you delay from experiencing all this Note 3 goodness!!!

Trying out T mobile with a Nexus 5 now. I love the phone and the service works well enough. Still thinking about picking up the X though so I can stay with VZ. Corp discount, much wider coverage, and unlimited data is hard to leave. I've been traveling over the holiday and haven't gotten signal in some areas with TMO. Not used to having to worry about that. The only thing that concerns me about the X is the near total lack of development. It's running 4.4 now but it remains to be seen if that update pace will continue in the future.
I have a feeling more people will jump on the custom versions. Especially now that root is available for 4.4 and AOSP isn't worth giving up Moto X features.
Edit: I had the Dev edition and am thinking about the custom version myself.
Edit: Just saw this as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48033832#post48033832
Currently have a Dev edition and may be trying out a custom one. Thing that sucks is I can't decide what color combinations I want. I like the look of the Dev edition though so I'm not worried if I can't get in on this. Hopefully Moto added some extra server capacity...but in the end it doesn't really matter since demand always exceeds the preparation.
If I do get it, it will definitely be the dev edition. I wish it was black but I plan on putting a case on it anyway so the front is really the only part that matters.

I just like the fact that with an unlocked bootloader I never have to worry about a future update killing root, etc.
theres about 5 of us among my friends who all rocked the vzw gnex.
i sold mine for a nokia 928 over the summer and then went moto x a few weeks ago. never looked back.
one switched to tmobile for a nexus 5..but now is tempted to get a tmobile moto x and randomlly sim swap cause of the deal.
and i think i convinced the remaining 3 to all go for the deal tomorrow to replace their gnex's haha
I debated swapping my 16gb for a 32gb dev edition...but i'm okay with running stock on this beauty.

I'm also having worries about this device (except that it looks awesome). I'm just not seeing much activity for this device compared to others. I'm wondering if I should just wait another month or two and get the LG G2 for free when my contract is up instead of buying this? Oy.
I jumped on the deal. Of course, "jumped" in this context means I spent eight hours bashing my head against Motorola's broken website before I was finally able to place an order, and by the looks of their Twitter feed I was one of the lucky ones. They left a lot of people out in the cold today, with the website issues combined with limited inventory....
Been looking for a replacement for my Galaxy Nexus almost since day one. I love the ease of flashing that puppy but almost everything else about it stinks. Crappy battery life, particularly on LTE, but the real kicker was the never ending reception problems. Others have documented these issues, and I've been through three replacement phones (at least Verizon tried!) without success. It's fine for me when I'm stationary, most of the issues seem to be with handoffs while mobile. I've dropped calls with the GNex in parts of VZW's network where I haven't seen dropped calls since the Bell Atlantic days....
$400 for the unlocked DE is an awesome deal, I think, particularly for users with grandfathered unlimited data who want a flagship phone. On that same note, I'm told it works flawlessly with T-Mobile, so if Verizon pulls UL data I know what 'Plan B' is.....

Hi, I'm at a crossroads at the moment. I currently have had the note 2 for a year now and love the screen size. However in 4 days, thanks to T-Mobile's jump program; I can upgrade. I'm stuck at the decision between choosing the note 3 or nexus 5. Has anyone here come from the nexus 5? I'm curious what there experience was that led them to get the note 3.
I understand the specs and differences. So I'm not sure about downgrading to a smaller screen (nexus 5) however my phones have always been rooted since the droid eris. Just before my note 3 received 4.3 I reset the counter and flashed back to stock. Then took the update. Now I'm unrooted due to not wanting to trip the knox counter. As I've read it's not possible to reset it, yet and I need to turn this phone in towards my upgrade. I miss being rooted and regular updates so I thought the nexus 5 because there's no tattle tale counters. But I'm not sure about the size and I'm not about the note 3 either, thanks to knox.
Anyone have maybe a suggestion?

Get neither.
I would suggest getting a Note 3 but since you are worried about Knox, then forget it. Well there is also a possibility of rooting without tripping Knox and that depends on your software version [check Root de La Vega thread].
I don't like LG Nexus 5 because there is no microSD slot, you cannot replace the battery without unscrewing the phone, no usb otg.
Have you considered getting an LG G2?
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g2-5543.php
Is it in your upgrade plan?
I believe it might be, since Note 3 costs a lot more
I've thought about the g2 actually but not a whole lot. T-Mobile is my carrier and almost everything in the store is zero down right now so I'm wide open decision wise.
Thanks for the link

I came from the note 2 then to nexus 5 then to note 3. I like the change in every way except missing kitkat and dislike having a physical button to go home. Beyond that the note 3 build quality and extra features included with the note 3 make it an easy choice for me. The Nexus 5 is an awesome phone for the price but the quality is no where near the note 3. The knox issue.... I checked all the basic functioning including multitouch and after everything checked out I rooted and never looked back.
Awesome,
Only reason I'm even partially concerned with knox is it might effect exchanging the phone in later for another (jump) upgrade.

I like you faced this dilemma although id already purchased my note 3 but knox P***** me off so i wanted to sell the device and buy a N5 or G2 - after playing with both of these phones...I stuck with my note 3 partly due to the bigger screen and i just thought to hell with samsung Knox - Rooted it and installed what i wanted ive never looked back.

I had the nexus 5 for little over 2 months. I enjoyed it and still prefer Kitkat over jellybean any day.
I purchased the n5 for the price for performance. I decided to upgrade because I wanted apt-x for blue tooth audio, I prefer the larger screen, and I still like having the removable battery and SD card.
There wasn't much on the fence... I had never had a nexus device and decided to try it out and see what the hype was about. For the price from Google play it's unbeatable imo. Paying the extra 100 because it came through tmo is a ripoff. Just my personal experience get the 32gb version so you don't have to compromise on what you can carry.
I liked the phone enough and for how cheap it is I decided to give it to my gf instead of selling it. If she didn't want it I would keep it around as a backup phone for when it's not a good idea to carry my note 3.
So in closing you can't go wrong with either one. For staying connected and having the latest Android the nexus wins. For bells and whistles the note 3 wins.

Well I think that settles it. Thank you everyone for you input. Between everyone's generous advice and going to T-Mobile tonight to play with both. I have made up my mind.

And the winner is....
The note 3!!
No I just need to decide on the color. HA!
This Wednesday is the day. My wife and I are going to T-Mobile and she'll likely get the white and I'll probably get the black.
Thanks guys!!

Just an FYI - most carriers don't even check KNOX/Warranty status when you trade in etc.

Just bought the black note 3 and the white one for my wife!!
Totally awesome phone! I thought the note 2 was amazing. This phone is incredible. Thanks everyone for your input.

hi,
had note 1, than iphone5s, now note 3. Nothing beats this screen size, wondered what to choose and there is no competition so far…
Can you not do what I did?
I got a sim free phone and a much cheaper sim-only deal (Paying £15 PM instead of £36+)
No waiting around if you want to upgrade early, I got the S3, then Note 2, then Note 2 LTE and finally the Note 3 - petty good resale values.
I would still be stuck with my S3 if I hadn't gone down this route. 24 Months is too long to be tied to a phone
I've got the note 3 on contract and cos the nexus 5 will get updates first I bought one outright as the price is so cheap and it works for me as I prefer the smaller N5 for work...

Is there anyone else happy with this device? I just got it used for 100 bucks. Clean imei. I like the phone.
Which variant did you get?
Is it running hot, does it lag?
I have an opportunity to get one at a low cost, might just take the plunge. It is black and unlocked.
For $100 I'd say if you like it and there is no issues well congrats and enjoy.
I love mine yo. Bought it a little over 5 months ago.
Sure, there's a lot of bugs/lags, heats up (Pretty rarely burning) on minimal use, *un-rootable*, late on Nougat, and so much more; but it get's the job done. I don't play games much and only text, answer emails, and browse some social media apps. Only phone I think about now is the Oneplus 3T because I regularly used the Oneplus One before the Priv. I customized it in just so many ways!
I got the unlocked variant I got it for s cheap price. I got to try the att variant and oh my goodness it was a nightmare until the uodates were installed. It's still not as smooth as the unlocked one. Still don't understand why it takes so long to install apps though
