hi all. last night i flashed cm10 (epinter). loved it for an alpha. but than today i went to the mall cause my wife wanted to buy some stuff, meanwhile i passed my time to bestbuy mobile. she was eligible for an upgrade device. and i discovered that i could trade my beloved atrix 4g for a value of 150$. long story short I added 50$ (+36$ activation fee for att suckers) and ended up with the SGS3. bigger and better finally true.
almost a year with atrix 4g have been amazing. would never forget the first bootloader unlock, the first cm7 flash, the first miui emotions... cm9 and cm10 last night. thank you very much all the developers and testers all the community.

You're gonna love the GS3. I upgraded about 3 weeks ago. Screen, speed, and ICS are awesome. Touchwiz is also much better than Motoblur (although I've already started using Nova as my launcher).
That said, my daughter is loving the Atrix and lapdock that I handed down to her. Such an awesome phone that I couldn't part with it as long as someone in my family could use it.
There are a few areas however that the Atrix still beats the GS3. The Atrix bluetooth radio is better. Hooks up faster to my car, and has significantly better range with my headphones at the gym. The cell radio on my GS3 also flips between 3G and Edge more than the Atrix did (sorry, no LTE in my area yet). Also, I'm sad to say that the Atrix has better battery life too.
So, bottom line is that the GS3 is an awesome phone (really love the camera too), but the Atrix still holds its own for an older phone. Gotta love all the choices we have with Android!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Our company has 4 atrix's... 2 are stock blur and 2 are ics/jb and afaik there are a lot less dropped calls/freezing/glitching on the stock blur roms than the experimental kangs. The only complaints with android 4 is the camera problems! I sure wish motorola would hurry up and release ICS or a lot more people are going to jump ship.
I know I'm eyeing the SGS3. Itis pretty much guaranteed to get updated CM builds., I don't give two craps about Touchwiz, though. The only thing holding me back is that, specs wise, it's not a huge upgrade from the Atrix. So I keep thinking it's probably not worth the upgrade cost.

The GS3 is too big for my liking. Even my SGSII I wish would have a smaller form factor sometimes as well. Atrix with a TPU Case IMO is the perfect size for a cell phone.
If the next Nexus phone has the same size as the Atrix, plus had MicroSD support. Oh man... Yeah that would hold me over for a LONNNNNG time...

Yea, did you have to buy a phone from them for them to buy yours? Could anybody just walk in and sell them an Atrix for 150 outright?

I'm using my atrix on AT&T right now without a data plan. Unless they just did a straight swap on phones (kind of like what Microsoft did with their promotion a little while ago), I'm guessing I can't do this.
You can always sell on eBay or Amazon. That'll net more than a bestbuy trade in

And on another note, the atrix is by far the "crappiest" phone on the market. You're obviously not familiar with the Motorola flipside that att STILL sells but can't even get a proper recovery and is forced to stay completely stock, although rooted, if you want a proper working phone.

when i went to bestbuy mobile i had jellybean (epinter) rooted and bootloader unlocked. they couldn't believe their eyes.
i asked them if there will be any difference if the atrix was unlocked. they said NO!
I must say that I actually bought the atrix from them, so they searched for the receipt on their system and found it.
dont know if atrix 4g bought elsewhere can be trade in on bestbuy mobile.

Virgin has full coverage here in NYC. I don't talk a lot. I use a lot of text/gtalk. They have 25$ plans. The processor/gpu is the same as the thunderbolt. I was going to wait on the nexus 3 but if the Triumph comes out and someone can get CM on it somehow- I might pick it up.
I know the Triumph (Thunderbolt specs) and the Nexus 3 (supposed quad core) are totally different but for 25 a month- that's very attractive.
I know this place will be pro-Vibrant and most likely pro nexus since its a dev device but if the Triumph can get a 2nd init install of Cm or MIUI- why not?
Thoughts?

I am really tempted to pay my etf and make the switch to VM because the service (virgin mobile which uses Sprint's network) is a lot better then T-mobile's in my area. I've heard the Triumph also is running stock android, so thats a plus. I say go for it, $25 a month is a very good deal and VM has a 30 day returm period, so if you don't like it you can return your phone.
How much does that phone go for?

I think Virgin has a 30 day period to return the phone if you don't like it. It would be nice to try it. Worse comes to worse and you don't like it, return it and you're only losing the 25$ for that month.

As much as I don't like verizon's phones. They have the fastest mobile network in the US hands down (LTE and not CDMA). Their devices average 12Mbs, and can hit up to 21Mbs. There's really no contest there. T-mo and the others can't do that today.
First, this is my first post in this sub-forum, as I have a fascinate, but I just wanted to point out 2 things about this phone and Virgin Mobile in general:
1. Sprint has wonderful service in my area, better than AT&T and T-Mobile, but not as good as Verizon. I DO know that I am willing to have one less bar and slower data to save $60 a month. Also, I don't travel where Sprint doesn't have service, so roaming is a non-factor to me, although to some people that should be a pretty big point, as VM doesn't roam out of sprint's network (trade offs... pfft)
2.Virgin Mobile's android phones follow a trend, sell the phone for ~ 50% of retail. I'll prove it:
Optimus S $299 | Optimus V $149 and Samsung Transform (Sprint no longer offers the Intercept) $350 | Samsung Intecept $199 (I see it all the time on sale at BB for $175)
What this leads me to believe is you simply need to find the equivalent phone and simply slash it's price in half, +/- $50. I believe the EVO is the closest match, so take half of that price and you get roughly $225, according to Sprint. Therefore, I believe the triumph will be $250.
What do you all think?
the phone will be sold for $299.99
you can pre-order it now on bestbuy's website.
just go there and search for "motorola triumph"
I'm kinda pissed that the price is so high, but unlimited data, text, and web for 25 a month... will make up the difference in a few months on the money you save from paying your normal phone bill.
If it can't be rootrom'd then im gonna wait for the nexus 3.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I wouldn't, what most people don't know is how these carriers are able to sell the phones for so little money. For example, the rumor touch is 100 bucks for virgin mobile while the off-contract price for the rumor touch on sprint is 250 in most stores, how are they able to do that? the answer is different parts, not just different brands, also lower quality, which is why most people who have a prepaid phone have the most phone problems, there's not a single prepaid phone in the last 3 years that I've seen with no serious problems. While the same can be said for post paid versions in this case it is much worse on prepaid smartphones.
Ask anyone who repairs/mods cellphones, most of the time they won't mess with prepaids :/
The reason those companies sell it higher at full price is to try to get you into their contract.I have never had a problem with a prepaid phone.I personally don't mind getting it cheaper without the contract.I also will dev or work on any phone prepaid or not.I am looking forward to the Triumph, finally there will be a nice spec'd phone on prepaid. While I am happy with th Optimus V I was already looking to use it as a donor for another phone. But with this coming out, I'll just sell my V and get it.Though I'm sure it will have a locked bootloader as long as it can be temp rooted to remove bloatware I'll be very happy.

its not lte who cares
Two reasons:
Not LTE (mentioned previously)
I've already got this phone and an Infuse.
I wonder if the GPS issue(s) that was on the Cappy also exist on the SGS2? Big deal breaker if it's still a problem.
I bought an Iphone refurbished when I started service last month and promptly returned it a week after. Bought a phone of CL. I've finally (3 weeks later) got everything sorted out with my return and supposedly I can go into store and purchase a phone at the new customer pricing (doubt it will work that easy). I was going to wait for the iPhone 5 or the SGS2 and more than likely just sell it because the Atrix is pretty good considering how old it is.
Question is do you think I'd be pressing my luck if I didn't by a phone soon and just waited. I have a bad feeling if I wait for the Prime or Holiday or anything more than a week away I'm going to get screwed out of my new customer discount I didn't get to use since I returned the iPhone and bought my own phone.
If there's any ATT sales people or someone with experience can you offer your opinion on me being able to get the discounted price since it is "in the notes"?

Sorry for the double post, but why don't any reviewers look into this considering Samsungs GPS issue history?
The SGS2 was launched quite some time here in Mexico and I've never even consider it.
I've seen it, I've used it, and it's a really nice smartphone, no doubt about it!
But it lacks soooo many things that my Atrix has out of the box that I consider it a downgrade for any serious Android user.
I don't like about the SGS2:
1. Does not have Webtop environment
2. Does not have Accesories, Car Dock, Lapdock and multimedia dock
3. Small battery and battery life
4. Lack of true HDMI output.
5. Too bulky, so my cool carrying belt case won't work anymore.
6. Super AMOLED Plus, contrary to popular thinking, AMOLED technology is not that great since it tends to degrade over time. Do some research about this, too many SGS and SGS2 users complain about ghosting or image burning after a few weeks or months of heavy use.

im waiting for a LTE phone personally. The SGS2 doesnt seem like a big enough upgrade to warrant paying money. I will say it does seem like a better phone than the atrix but only by very little, worth the 200$ to upgrade? nah

I'm on Sprint and ready to upgrade my Hero. The problem though is that the Hero has left me very hesitant to buy a phone with a custom skin, and I will not spend my money on a non-stock Android phone. Is the Nexus S 4G still a good phone compared to current dual core phones or should I just wait until Sprint gets the Galaxy Nexus?
I went from the hero to the NS4G when they had them for $30 after rebate and such, and I don't regret it at all. Even running stock it blows the hero away. Could that perception change over the next 2 years? Sure, but after dealing with the hero being pretty inadequate from the get go I doubt that it will be anything I can't deal with. The only complaint i have found is that the external speaker volume is about half of the hero. I can't pay ~$200+ for a phone any more.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G running CM7/franco.Kernel
Depends on the amount of money you want to spend. The NS4G is a fine phone and I enjoy it and like dpeeps the only complaint I would have is the speaker on it. I like to listen to podcast on my phone, when I'm at home I still listen to em on the Hero, I pretty much use the Hero it as a iPod/MP3Player type device now.
I had to make this same decision back in August and am so happy that I did. There will always be faster, prettier, better...etc. phones coming out so you just have to accept that. I haven't ran into 1 problem yet with my Nexus and I'm not leaving Sprint so for me it's the best phone they had and still have available. I'll upgrade once they get their LTE system in place and phones to work on it.
Good to hear that it is still a very capable phone! I was planning on buying it used off of Craigslist or eBay so that I can save my upgrade for the Galaxy Nexus, if Sprint gets it. I remember when the NS4G came out that a lot of people were complaining about the reception on it and I was wondering if it had ever gotten fixed or if it was ever a real problem to begin with.
Quad Core phones should be coming by springtime. LTE or not, that's what I'm waiting to jump on

Seems for some people it really was an issue, supposedly a update fixed it, I was one of the ones that never had any reception issue so can't say.
ns4g is already really outdated in todays mobile market
spending a few hundred bucks for a phone your going to use for maybe a month or 2 seems a little ridiculous.
you should save the money.
and if i were you i wouldnt wait for the galaxy nexus on sprint, i would jump ship to another carrier like im planning on doing. (with sprint for 9 years now)
sprint reception is getting worse and worse, their data speeds are getting slower and slower
just yesterday we had major problems, couldnt make or recieve calls or send texts.
i would highly consider switching carriers.
that being said if you want to stay on sprint the epic touch is a really amazing phone, held back by its carrier.
good luck
Outdated is probably a stretch. The phone is more than capable of handling anything a dual core phone can handle. I'm sure there's some few exceptions, but spending a few hundred bucks on anything that's as disposable as a mobile phone these days isn't too bright. Wait a couple months and they all become exponentially cheaper on some sale or rebate.

Well do you like huge phones?? The Galaxy Nexus is HUGE...Well if you absolutely need a new phone just now then get a Nexus S 4g. If you can wait a few months to see what comes out then the Galaxy Nexus will probably be worth the wait....

Sprint makes it easy to swap really... Just log into the sprint website and find the option in there. It asks for the numbers located on the back of the phone under the battery and then transfers your service to the new phone. Your old one should still have a clean ESN and be good to sell. My family has gone the eBay route a few times now to save our upgrades.
And really to anyone talking about only going for pure stock Android phones or waiting for the galaxy nexus, your missing out lol... Take 5 minutes on a 1ghz phone with Sense and you'll be hooked. The Hero just didn't have the power to handle it. And the Galaxy Nexus is really kind of a letdown tbh. In literally 3 months we'll see 2+ ghz quadcores and higher than 8 megapixel cameras as a bonus. And 4.0 ICS will be all over the place by then

Per chance do you know if this works with the old non-premium data plans? If I swap ESNs will they want to charge me the $10 a month "premium data" plan for a smartphone? I'm boycotting upgrading until this goes away. I mean my heroc does everything I need and we've almost got ICS there, I don't see a reason to upgrade. (Yes armv7/front camera/dual core/soon to be LTE would be nice but those aren't "necessities" imo)

The $10 fee is just for any data plan now I think, and its here to stay There isn't a loophole there though I don't think. If you switch to a 4G phone they'll probably slap it on there.

S3! Waiting for something like vibrant that u can use for more then a year an not feel like I need a new phone! Only Samsung for me!

Never another Samsung (unless its got Nexus in the name). Google phones for me from now on.
Im stuck in this phone for about another year. Don't want to pay to exit fee, and don't want to sign up for another 2 years to get a phone.
Not paying 500+ for an unlocked phone either - no money.

These are my same sentiments. I'd love to get the Galaxy Nexus if it came to T-Mobile.
Though, I hope I can hold out until the S3...
I would potentially look at another samsung, I bought it as soon as it came out and almost a year and a half later I am still very happy with it. As of right now I would lean towards a nexus device, I guess it really depends on what is the new hot phone is out over the summer.
Does anyone know if any manufacturers have a better updating reputation than samsung?
Question for you guys. When my contract ends with T mobile can i go to non contract plan and save some money every month? So that i can get unlocked phone from out side. Also galaxy nexus seems the only phone that works with t mobile 3G bands. So we are pretty much stuck with one option if we want to get our own phone and still be on t mobile.
Id say galaxy nexus, if it ever came to tmobile. I wont spend full price on another android phone that is not a nexus.
from now on its....nexus or get lost. (simply because of updates)

I bit the bullet and got a Galaxy Nexus before Thanksgiving, and I'm glad I did. I will never get hamstrung by another carrier branded phone again as long as the Nexus phones are available. I had the Vibrant for a year. The Froyo update barely happened. Gingerbread? Yeah right. ICS....keep dreaming. Even CM doesn't want this phone anymore. I don't blame them either, the 911 issue was definitely a problem.
With the Nexus, I finally have a GPS that actually works (and works indoors). I get locks in a few seconds instead of waiting 5 to 10 minutes if it locks at all. Sure, I could have got an S2 - which IMO is another redheaded stepchild of the GS2 family and locked on TMO. One of my driving factors is that the international Nexus is pentaband. No phone is future-proof but this one suits my needs for a while.
iPhone 4S on AT&T. Don't have to spend $600 upfront and never have to worry about if it will fall out of support in less than a year.
Android is not reliable that way, and even the Nexus phones here are carrier locked. I'm not importing a phone.

Doesn't solve the upfront cost issue nor does it solve Android's built in problems. Plus, iMessage is hot and almost everyone here that I know has an iPhone.

I've had my vibrant since it came out in July last year. I hadn't thought of getting a new phone until I heard about the galaxy nexus. I'm going to wait for prices to drop, then choose between the gs2 and the galaxy nexus (depends on if the s2 actually gets ics). After having a phone with an amoled screen protected by gorilla glass, I can't go to something dull in comparrison and easily scratchable/breakable.

My problem is with choosing a phone is....
If I want to go to get a 2yr contract again, then I'd go for either S2 or Amaze... BUT... Here's the dilema:
What really IS the truth behind those two phones... People have been saying S2 is great, and there are others that say PIXEL is worse, go with Amaze. ARGH!
If I want to go OFF contract, then definitely no question: Galaxy Nexus.
Right of this moment, I'm using my friend's Nexus S, we swapped, because he wants to dev on my Vibe, and I want to flash happy on the Nexus S. Until he's satisfied of what he's doing to my phone, then I'm happy to be on Nex S for the mean time. Besides, if he bricks that damn Vibe, he'll get me a SGS4G. So I'm not too worried.
BUT, here's the dilema...
THE DAMN PRICE OF THE GALAXY NEXUS!

Agreed. A $600-700 phone is not in my budget at the moment. I have more important things too spend my money on (bills, 4mo old, etc). As much as I'd love to have the Nexus, it's just not going to happen and it won't come to tmo anytime soon (if ever).
Been looking at the sgs2 and Amaze the past few days. Going into the store this weekend and probably walking out with one. My Vibrants days are numbered.

To me service is more important than phone. That's why I'm gonna ditch tmo/att for Sprint. Would rather put up with slightly slower 4g that's unlimited than to have "the nation's fastest network" at 2 gig a month.
I'll probably end up getting the evo3d cuz after my Vibrant experience I'm not thrilled with the way Samsung fails to update their products.

For those who are getting tired of their vibrant you should head over to the dev section and flash deranged9 by jcc. I just flashed it yesterday and it feels like I have a completely new phone.

I wish galaxy nexus it seems very powerful,
any one can send it to me from usa ??
I just switched TO this phone a week or two ago and couldn't be happier.
I got the Vibrant for $100 on Craigslist and signed up for the month to month T-mobile plan.
Dual core or not there's nothing I ran on the G2x that I can't run on this phone (Even Tegra only games with Chainfire).. except video conferencing with FFC, which I never did, but could always add a FFC later.
I'm getting the same data rate on this "3G" phone as I did on the G2x "4G" phone AND I'm not locked into a contract.
One of the reasons I got it was it's MIUI supported.
I've tried MULTIPLE smartphones since the first iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3Gs then switched to Palm Pre.. then to Android - MyTouch, HTC Hero, DroidX, Samsung Intercept, LG Optimus V, G2x, Motorola Triumph and now the Vibrant.
By far the best one of all those I've mentioned.
I know it's a year old, but I won't be switching anytime soon.
At Sprint website.....trying to take some GN thunder lol????
Yup people don't know the difference

If there was ever a LTE version for att of the NS, I could honestly say it would be the last phone I would ever need.
I would be happy with a HSPA+ for TMO or ATT
Hell I am hoping the LTE version will launch for Sprint too
If the GN comes I see it being the LTE flavor. Or maybe dual WIMAX and LTE?
I was thinking of the Epic Touch but seeing ICS on INT GS2 left a horrible taste in my mouth . Hopefully they will leave the stock launcher like they did for GB?

I've reached the conclusion that buying expressive electronics when they first come out is simply a bad consumer choice. How often do new electronics (especially phones) ship with some kind of defect? It takes at least a few months for all the bad batches to reach the suckers and the bug-free versions to hit shelves.

Eh, I dont know. My Launch day Nexus One is still alive and working very well. My Launch day Nexus S 4G is stable up to 2Ghz (if it doesn't get too hot anyway), and has no major issues. Hell I even get better signal on my NS4G than ANY other phone I've ever had.
Think about it...

Nexus S is somewhat of a special case; most if, if not all, the bugs were worked out the year prior with the galaxy s line. And if you paid attention, which i did, the gs had plenty of problems til they released the the updated versions without bugs (gs4g and ns). On top of that, the ns4g had the ns out before it--> that's about 3 generations of product field testing. You should really thank gs, ns, and gs4g for making your ns4g what it is today
Current evo4g owner eligible for an upgrade. Was on the sprint website trying to decide between this ns4g ($0.00) and the epic touch4g ($199.99). Love the gs2's hardware, but I agree with don'tshootmesanta's distaste for TouchWiz smothering the ICS goodness underneath. Love the nexus s 4g, but it is getting a little long in the tooth. Would it be wise to get the nexus now?
As a premiere customer I believe my annual upgrade will disappear in two weeks as the program comes to an end, and the opportunity to (finally) own a nexus device, for free, seems foolish to pass up.
The foolish thing would be not to get the iPhone 4s and flip it. Nexus S 4G are too cheap to use an upgrade on it.

Yerp. Lnib I've seen them hovering around 100 bones.
Follow the leader @corythug
So you're saying I ought to:
1. Use my upgrade to buy the iPhone 4S for $199.99
2. Sell iPhone on craigslist/ebay for ~ $600
3. Keep using the evo or use the $400 profit to buy new phone off contract?
I jumped on this today for my other line...anyone recomend any good roms...or is stock rooted good enough....I would like to overclock a little too...any recommendations would be helpful cause this won't be my phone so i won't be able to tinker with it...thanks

For me it's either Nexus or no Android phone but I'd get the Epic Touch 4G. You could easily sell it, buy a Nexus S 4G and have some cash to spare. You could even wait and see if the Galaxy Nexus hits Sprint and sell the Epic Touch 4G then.

Just saw this and this makes even more sense than my suggestion. You could get a NS4G on ebay and still have money for another phone.

Yea Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast GPA 19, very much stock but better. You can just d/l and install it through Rom Manager although it's probably still on these forums some where, just to much other ICS stuff to wade through and find it. I've tried them all and his is by far the smoothest bug free one I've came across, great battery life as well. I'll stick with it until he gets a ICS version up and running.
