New ATT trend? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi, is it possible to remove the annoying "wifi connected" from the notification shade? it was on the htc one aswell. it seems that att keeps copying verizon, and their stupid additions to the software of a phone.
I know it goes away when you turn the wifi off, but i want to use wifi without having to see "wifi connected">
thanks

Not possible until someone develops a rom without it. Every company adds stuff to the software though, not just those two. At least there isn't a globe on the Note 2's home button like VZW lol

Go to applications manager and disable the stupid at&t WiFi app. That should fix it

It doesn't.

Disabling at&t hot spots app worked for me

All of these software additions seem stupid to us here at xda because they are put there with us powerusers in mind. They are simply trying to help those who are as tech savvy have an enjoyable experience with their hand held computers that happen to be able to call people.

If you are rooted you should check the dev section. I think someone posted a mod with it removed

Watch On S4 problem

All the sudden Watch On app is turning itself on and showing in the notifications area. I turn it off(tell it not to) but when I restart it's back. What happened? Fix?
Thanks.

Check your settings and disable the "show remote in notifications"

Thanks, but that's what I have tried 6 times now. It automatically puts it back on restart.
Please help.

I came here and was just about to ask the same question. I could not figure out why this thing was always on in the notifications and status bar!
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using xda app-developers app
That is weird because I use my watch on app all the time. I disabled the notification from settings once and it stayed true. Are you running a custom ROM? I'm on ShoStock v2.0.

Not rooted. All stock.

Same here. Started happening a couple days ago. Every restart its in my notifications. I'm running mint jelly rom.

I am running SHOstock 2 and it happens to me too.
I reported it to samsung, you should too,
in the Settings near the bottom
Send feedback or get help
Report this faulty app Please!!!!
fix
Unless Samsung has updated the app behind the scenes.
This seems to have fixed the issue:
Under settings go into your applications
go to Samsung Watchon and hit the clear button,
Yes, you will have to re-setup your TV\Cable,
but the checkbox does not reset now.
I emailed them about the issue. You can report bugs from the app. I suggest everyone do the same

Driving me crazy

These dang apps with the advertising in them are pissing me off. Everytime I turn on my tablet there is one in my notification bar. Anyone know of an app to block them? I just usually delete the app out of frustration but there are some I'd like to keep.

Then why don't you pay for them to get rid of the ads?

Correct. And some you need more than 15min to check em out.

I find i best to be more particular of what I install and do not support any app that uses notifications to advertise.
An ad blocker will not help with these either. I simply read comments on any free app and Always look at permissions before installing.
If one still slips by, I uninstall intermediately.
All I'm saying is, if it's a good app, why not support the developer? It's not like they charge you an arm and a leg for their app and you can install it on any device that is registered to you afterwards. Most apps only cost a few bucks anyways.

It sounds like what you are describing is a VERY annoying ad service called Air Push (puts ads in your notification bar). You can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector to figure out which app it is and uninstall it.
If you are talking about in-app ads, then you need something like adblock, but keep in mind, ads are how devs get paid for their "free" apps...so unless you want to help support them all going pay, you might want to reconsider.

All you need to do is "long press" the notification and select "app info" and it will take you right to the app to uninstall it.
Get Add on detector from the play store and run it
It will tell which app/apps is the culprit so you can delete it

Yep or airpush detector.

Just long press the notification. .. then you go into app info. . Untick notification

Unrestricted Tethering

So is the only way to tether without restriction right now to use that toggle switch app? That somehow bypasses the check Verizon does?

It does the check, but when it tells you NO, just press the home button. Enjoy the WiFis
I couldnt get superbeam to work using the tethering toggle. I wanted to transfer files from asus tablet to note3 and the connection seemed solid but when I hit transfer I got the verizon data message again and again. Maybe Iam making things too hard using superbeam but I was able to connect the two devices.

Which app is this?
Is my assumption that the goal is "tethering without Verizon noticing and trying to change your plan" a correct assumption?

QuickWindow case mod?

I know not many people have the quickwindow case but wouldn't it be neat to see what its possibilities are? With the right Dev and creative thinkers, it could make people want to get the case. Its just so bland stock. It would be nice to see a mod you could flash or app to install that would allow a customizable window when closed.
Also the ability to lock and unlock my screen just by closing my cover. Very convenient.

This would be great. I tried paranoid android but one of the things that took me back to stock for now was the fact that the cover doesn't work with the Rom.
There's also so much you could do with it. I would really like a snapshot of whatever notification comes through. Kind of like the Moto x notifications but modded for our cover window.

I just want to read the messages from small screen outside the case. It will be so awesome with that.

If anyone can tell me where the files are that are activated when the case is closed and opened I can make the mod myself. I just don't even know where to begin lol

Stock will probably never allow that. I don't understand why this doesn't have more attention. These type of cases are now available for 3+ well known smart phones. I figured by now someone would have made a way to customize these new features.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
This is crazy. I have posted about this and no devs even comment on this topic. Is it difficult or are they just not interested? I can't imagine why they wouldn't be. Being able to read and discard messages. Seems like a no brainer to me. Can someone in the know explain why this isn't happening? I mean I am not trying to force anyone to work on this, but I would have a little peace of mind just gathering some info from all these smart people on why it is not happening.

WiFi phone

Hi I was just wondering what can I delete in my system app/ wakeblock to just have my phone work only on WiFi. I don't have service anymore and I know that having all the service stuff on here drains my battery. Or dose it not matter? Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would honestly leave it, removing could actually cause drain. Just put it in AP mode and use WiFi
Sent from my SM-T217S using XDA Free mobile app
That's what I was thinking. ^^^
I know from experience. That stuff is built into the framework. Basically so deeply integrated that you would have to modify other things that I'm not even gonna go into.

OK thanks guy!
