So is the only way to tether without restriction right now to use that toggle switch app? That somehow bypasses the check Verizon does?

It does the check, but when it tells you NO, just press the home button. Enjoy the WiFis
I couldnt get superbeam to work using the tethering toggle. I wanted to transfer files from asus tablet to note3 and the connection seemed solid but when I hit transfer I got the verizon data message again and again. Maybe Iam making things too hard using superbeam but I was able to connect the two devices.

Which app is this?
Is my assumption that the goal is "tethering without Verizon noticing and trying to change your plan" a correct assumption?

That's right. But I don't know the app name. I just heard about this working for some reason.

Hi, is it possible to remove the annoying "wifi connected" from the notification shade? it was on the htc one aswell. it seems that att keeps copying verizon, and their stupid additions to the software of a phone.
I know it goes away when you turn the wifi off, but i want to use wifi without having to see "wifi connected">
thanks
Not possible until someone develops a rom without it. Every company adds stuff to the software though, not just those two. At least there isn't a globe on the Note 2's home button like VZW lol
Go to applications manager and disable the stupid at&t WiFi app. That should fix it

It doesn't.
Disabling at&t hot spots app worked for me

All of these software additions seem stupid to us here at xda because they are put there with us powerusers in mind. They are simply trying to help those who are as tech savvy have an enjoyable experience with their hand held computers that happen to be able to call people.

If you are rooted you should check the dev section. I think someone posted a mod with it removed

Hi I am trying to get rid of any internet connection on my nexus 4. Is there a way that I can edit the kernel so that wifi would not work?(also if I can disable data that'll be awesome)

Turn off wifi and mobile data from settings will not do it for you?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
you can delete(copy first please) any number of wifi related files with a root file explorer out of /sys/ or /system/(and reboot) which would essentially incapacitate wifi. then either reflash your rom/kernel/ or put the files back.
Their has been some pretty fishy posts lately....

Just use airplane mode, no???????
Edit; oh, thought he meant all data
Then you can't get calls or sms
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
use 2g and disable wifi, use droidwall if you want to disable apps from connecting to net
Airplane mode.. Lol

You could just not turn on WiFi.

You can get WiFi to stop working, You will have to modify the kernel.
Delete the following folder in the last directory:
/sys/bus/platform/WLAN_CTRL
/sys/bus/platform/wcnss_wlan
/sys/kernel/ipv4
I am not sure why you want to do this even if there are other safe ways to stop this interface.
What you are doing is really dangerous and can cause a soft brick causing you to reflash everything using the Google Developers Nexus flashing tool.

I always have my mobile data turned off so that I don't get charged for it extra on my bill as I don't want random apps to be using data in the background without me knowing. I want to find a way to only enable data to the app Cerberus which can track your phone and stuff when lost. Is there a way to only enable data on certain apps because I don't mind paying a few extra dollars if that means me finding my lost phone.

If you go to settings>data usage and tap on an app in the list at the bottom of the screen, then you have an option to turn off background data when using mobile. See screenshot (it's in polish, but you get what I mean )

How?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
A firewall from the play store. I recommend Android Firewall.
Edit: requires root
Use droidwall (rooted users only)
OK so a firewall did work and let me set which apps I want to allow WiFi and data... However it was really annoying because after I install a new app it would prompt me asking me to set the settings up for the new app... I don't want to keep doing this for every app I install is there any other way??

I have 4 days left to return this phone with 50$ restocking fee. Unrestricted tethering I is very important but is found on the note 3 but not the g2 T-Mobile from some developers. Will the g2 would ever have unrestricted tethering? Don't like note 3 size.

They already created a tethering mod for vzn I don't see why it is any harder for T mobile

What do you mean by unrestricted? T-Mobile tethering and wifi Hotspot work just fine. If you're trying to use tethering without noticing from the carrier, I use PDAnet. USB tethering works undetected.

I turn my mobile hotspot on/off quite a bit and would love to use a widget to speed up the process. However, none of the widgets I have tried from the Play Store have worked. Has anyone had any luck with a mobile hotspot widget? Thanks!
There's an app called hotspot toogle widget. Works with my s2

Doesn't seem to work for me. I have the provision check being skipped, as per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338
Could something with that be causing the widgets not to work?

Still seeking widget
Has anyone found a solution for this yet? Like the original poster, I use the Mobile Hotspot regularly to tether my LG Gpad 8.3 to my Verizon G2, and I would definitely like to reduce the steps necessary to establish the connection. I have no hotspot selection on the Q settings, nor do any widgets that I have found thus far work for the Mobile Hotspot feature. My guess is that Verizon removes that selection from the Quick settings because they do not want to make it easy to tether.
If I had more time to experiment with Tasker, there is probably a way around this. Can help with this, I would be greatly appreciative.
Or maybe you need to start looking at an alternate ROM
