I love everything about this phone except...pinky tint at the bottom 1/5 of the screen!
It's especially visible with white background. It seems that the bottom 1/5 part gets very warm when the phone is doing lots of stuff or charging battery and I think that's when the pink tint is really gettung, well pink.
I will probably exchange it once the supply gets better and my local att store gets stocks. Hopefully you guys are not experiencing this.

Thanks guys for the reply. I've got blue one. It's barely visible as my friends couldn't see it at all lol. I have really good eyes, or I have to say "trained eyes " that I do graphic arts stuff everyday. Color accuracy is critical for my job.
My S2 had blueish tint but it was uniform color temperature for the entire screen. I'm currently using app called Screen Adjuster to mitigate the issue but it doesn't solve the problem because of the uneven color temperature. I really think that the heat at the bottom part really changed the tint permanently.
I'm happy that you guys don't have such problem!

I have some ink blob close to the middle of my screen that's visible at night in a dark room. It's very annoying and definitely swapping it out hopefully next week. I have a blue gs3.

Mine has a couple of those too. From reading the international thread, it seems somewhat normal with amoled. There's a chance you will exchange it and get once that's worse....
Edit: I shouldn't say normal with amoled. My nexus s doesnt really have it. My nexus s is also almost completely black while the galaxy s3 isn't as dark of a black

I must say it'll be really hard to find the AMOLED screen with no ink bolbs unfortunately.. I went through 3 S2 Syrockets and 1 Playstation Vita. All of them have those blobs or lines of ink that you can see in a dark room with black or gray background. It's really prevalent issue. Personally I gave up about the issue as its only visible in some limited conditions. Sorry but if you don't have any other problems then i dont want you to exchange it with even worse unit...

Until my exchanged unit arrives, I'll just enjoy this beautifully built phone!
Oh man I thought samsung noticed this issue with the intl version.. is it possible to use the SG3 without a simcard? I mean can I access the applications / browser using wifi without having a simcard in? I am asking because I ordered one from AT&T and I will unlock it, I don't want to unlock it then send it back if it has issues..

If you want to see if your phone has these blobs, do the following
Go into a pitch black room
Set your phone brightness to auto
Open camera app
Turn off flash
take a picture of pure darkness
View the picture in the gallery, and tap it once open so all the bars and menus go away showing nothing but the image
Inspect the screen up close, you may have to wait 5 minutes for your eyes to adjust
If you don't see those blotches, your eyes suck, didn't let them adjust enough to the dark, or you just wasted your luck on a nice phone rather than a lottery ticket!

How do you know that the blotches you see after this test are not just a camera flaw? Did you send the picture you took on the sg3 to another phone and view it again? If the bloches are there, its a camera flaw. If not, its a screen flaw.
Everysingle amoled screen that I have owned had purple tint. It is more or less common on samoled. Especially noticeable when the brightness turned to low.

Because, i used pinch and zoom while the picture was open and pretty much saw nothing happen on the screen. I could tell from some slight changes in some lighter spots, but the blotches did not move. You can do the same.

I don't have my Nexus 4 yet but I'm very concerned about the extremely warm tones I've been watching on some nexus 4 reviews, maybe some screens are defective? Does your screen have a yellow tone? Are the whites yellowish? I'm very unhappy with my Galaxy Nexus screen because the yellow tone of its screen, this could be a deal breaker for me, is there an app or something to give the screen a colder tone? Aka more blueish not as crazy as the galaxy s iii but you get the idea
Check out this comparison between nexus 4 and galaxy nexus for example
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
For me, if your looking at the phone directly there is no yellow tone, but once you angle it there is some yellow then turns back into regular white. (this gets really yellow when you do this while looking from any corner of the phone) not sure if that makes any sense.
EDIT: i see most reviewers on youtube have it at an angle and makes it look really yellow.
not sure why its like that. maybe it has something to do with the glue lg uses?

Slight yellowing when looking from bottom left or top right corners.
Looks slightly blue when looking from bottom right or top left.
No discolouration at all when looking head-on.
I think it's just how the pixels are aligned in the screen, it was built like that.

Thank you for explaining this.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's going to vary from unit to unit.
I've compared four iPhone 4's side and they all had dramatically different color casts from one another.
Just compared my Nexus 4 to an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S in the Apple Store yesterday, this screen is definitely a bit warmer than Apple's displays. It is sort of yellowish on white pages, but the iPhone's were a bit bluer so it all depends on the software.
It's like you guys are looking for any issue. You can find a flat in any product in this world. The sky is definitely not falling and this a non issue. Just use the damn phone. Lol

I tried my best to take a picture but it's hard to see if you're not looking from human eyes. Either way I don't know if this is part of the design or is it some type of weird defect. I attach some pictures check it out. Look near the light glare and you will see the little square patterns they are all over the screen I tried to capture it as well as I could.

Hi,
This is my first post on xda and I am sorry for making this about an issue. But this is the first time I didn't get the solution by searching.
Since today morning, I can see vertical lines of glittering dots on my screen when viewed under direct sunlight. Its there even when the screen is off, and is as if a row of pixels have become shiny and are reflecting light. It is visible only under direct sunlight and viewed straight on, and keeps moving in left right direction.
Its not the digitizer pattern under the screen, but these dots do seem to appear along the vertical edges of the digitizer grid
I got the phone just two weeks.. And was extremely happy with it. No yellow patches, no significant earpiece buzz, some issues with microphone but that's something a lot of people face. Dont know if glitteting was always there and I just noticed today or it happened all of a sudden, but this thing has really given me a big jolt.
Phone is a white nexus 4, rev 11 build 513k. Running franco kernel with stock rom.
I have this as well and was never 100% sure if it was just the construction of the screen or my screen protector. As you say, it's only visible to me at certain angles in direct sunlight so hasn't really bothered me.
It's normal.

This info is correct.
What you are seeing is the digitizer (used to detect touches on your screen)
Unfortunately there is little you can do about it as it is fused to the screen.
They are only really visible under direct sunlight so it's not that big of a deal. Mine look like tiny light blue dots

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.
Just to clarify.. I am not talking about the checkered digitizer patterns which are visible under sunlight only when the screen is off.
What I am seeing is a single row of glittering dots, which moves on the screen and is there every time I am viewing the screen in sunlight, both when screen is on and off. The digitizers are visible at an angle, this is visible straight on.
Now when I am viewing something on the screen and I see rows of glittering dots moving about.. I get somewhat disturbed.
If it is expected behavior I have nothing to complain. But to put my mind at rest.. I'll try snapping a photo and uploading it tomorrow morning for you to take a look.

Those rectangular shapes are part of the IPS screen, the dots are part of digitizer.
That's totally normal, I've had it with every touchscreen device I had been in contact with. Xperia Neo, Xperia Ion, and Nexus 4.
Great!!
Now that everyone has hammered it down my head that it is normal, when I checked it today it didn't look that bad except when I see dots bounce around when I am typing
Guess a lot of it is psychological..
So I am gonna drop this now and accept that this is expected. Thanks everyone for putting my mind to rest.

Since this subforum is so dead, I figured I'd make some small talk...
Am I the only one who loves their notification LED? I was very disappointed to see the gray demo units at Best Buy actually have a pinstripe pattern under the glass that noticeably obscures/dulls the LED, and the pattern is even applied over the touchkeys, so they have a weird, wavy look to them. A foolish decision by Samsung, IMO.

I dont know if its design or corner cutting. I dont like it, it looks cheap. Even the notification light has it. Luckly its only these items.

Well if they did it for any reason on purpose it is stupid. I usually don't mind software related mishaps with LED because apps and kernel devs usually give us a ton of options to workaround it. But this is the way they designed the phone from a manufacturing standpoint. Blah.

I like the pinstripe and keeps it from looking plain. I always turn off the bottom lights, i know the buttons are there, so that's not an issue.

I like the pinstripe on the notification light. I like the dulling effect. I on the other hand hate the stripes on the lower buttons. It gives it an appearance that the lighted buttons are flawed or pixels are burnt out.

I don't like the dimmed LED. I use Light Flow, maybe my favorite program on Android. I rely on LED notifications almost every minute of every day. I'm missing the LED on the Nexus 5.
I don't have that problem on my white Sprint Note 4 at all. Not on the buttons or the notification light. I'm really glad because I saw that pinstriped look on the buttons on some YouTube videos and think it looks awful.

I don't like the pinstripes; period. Last three plus years, the plain black bezel matched to the dark super Amoled native screen gave the black Galaxy a certain distinction that other OEMs with LCD couldn't match with their lighter looking native screen. Not appreciating this look; not so bad under low light but that wasn't the reaction Samsung hoped for. Thumbs down; face Palm. Not liking either of the browsers included either. Why no auto fit? Samsung's response is that natively, auto-fit exists; reset your settings. Nope. Second response: you can manually adjust the screen with pinch to zoom/minimize. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with this phone and look forward to development in this forum.
