Since this subforum is so dead, I figured I'd make some small talk...
Am I the only one who loves their notification LED? I was very disappointed to see the gray demo units at Best Buy actually have a pinstripe pattern under the glass that noticeably obscures/dulls the LED, and the pattern is even applied over the touchkeys, so they have a weird, wavy look to them. A foolish decision by Samsung, IMO.

Good to see you over here in the Note 4 area! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
I haven't actually seen the note 4 in person yet but i'll have my hands on one in a couple days. Are you talking about the same type of pattern under the glass of the note 2 and its touchkeys?
Yes that's the way it is on my Note 4 :/

Funny you should mention that - I just noticed it with my Note 4 about 30 minutes ago :$
Just got my note 4 and see the same thing. At least for the soft key buttons i dont mind it because i always keep them off

I dont know if its design or corner cutting. I dont like it, it looks cheap. Even the notification light has it. Luckly its only these items.
I don't have mine yet so I don't know. But you're saying this dulls the notification light? maybe Samsung did this so people complain less about their notification light colors when their phone is charging/charged in the middle of the night in a dark room

Well if they did it for any reason on purpose it is stupid. I usually don't mind software related mishaps with LED because apps and kernel devs usually give us a ton of options to workaround it. But this is the way they designed the phone from a manufacturing standpoint. Blah.

Black one has the stripes but my wife's white one doesnt.
I like the pinstripe and keeps it from looking plain. I always turn off the bottom lights, i know the buttons are there, so that's not an issue.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I like the pinstripe on the notification light. I like the dulling effect. I on the other hand hate the stripes on the lower buttons. It gives it an appearance that the lighted buttons are flawed or pixels are burnt out.

I don't like the dimmed LED. I use Light Flow, maybe my favorite program on Android. I rely on LED notifications almost every minute of every day. I'm missing the LED on the Nexus 5.
I don't have that problem on my white Sprint Note 4 at all. Not on the buttons or the notification light. I'm really glad because I saw that pinstriped look on the buttons on some YouTube videos and think it looks awful.

White spots on aluminum bezel
Anyone else have 4 white squares on their aluminum bezel on the top and bottom? There's 2 near the glass and 2 near the back on the top and bottom, no idea what they are or what they're for.

Yes, they're gaps to allow signal to get through the metal frame to the antenna.

I don't like the pinstripes; period. Last three plus years, the plain black bezel matched to the dark super Amoled native screen gave the black Galaxy a certain distinction that other OEMs with LCD couldn't match with their lighter looking native screen. Not appreciating this look; not so bad under low light but that wasn't the reaction Samsung hoped for. Thumbs down; face Palm. Not liking either of the browsers included either. Why no auto fit? Samsung's response is that natively, auto-fit exists; reset your settings. Nope. Second response: you can manually adjust the screen with pinch to zoom/minimize. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with this phone and look forward to development in this forum.

my first nexus s had darker whites than the display model at the store. I would recommend comparing yours with the store display or another persons nexus s, I think this is the best way, since we cant physically see how your phone screen looks. good luck
Are you referring to the gray section where your service provider is listed? Or the very dark area where the notifications are listed?
If I stare I can see some lines in the gray area.
I do see a slight grid pattern in the power control widget.
No I'm talking about grey section where your messages show up

I don't have a Nexus S, but I have a Galaxy S i9000M which has a similar (if not exactly the same) screen. If I bring up a screen that is a solid colour, I do notice some imperfections like you describe. They are hardly noticeable though.
Weird. My nexus doesn't have that and I would know, I modded my nexus 1 to be pretty much like gingerbread 6 months back, massive burn in.

Yes, I can see it. I can see it on any AMOLED/SAMOLED phone I've ever come in contact with. It's the nature of AMOLED screens unlike most LCD screens. With AMOLED, each pixel is individually powered, and it's impossible to have each pixel (or subpixel) be identical, which leads to slight differences in output and color reproduction. An LCD screen is backlight by either florescent tubes or recently, LEDs, which produce an even backlight (usually) where the colors are controlled by filtering each pixel, rather than having to illuminate each pixel.
Anyway, I only really notice it when the brightness is at the minimum and it's very dark in the place I'm using my phone. If I crank up the brightness or if I'm in a well lit area, I don't notice it at all really. Although if it's VERY obvious, you might have a screen that's significantly lower quality than average... it happens, bad QC or something, exchange it.
Oh, and if you stare at a plasma TV long enough you'll notice the same thing... similar technology, each pixel illuminated individually.
I love everything about this phone except...pinky tint at the bottom 1/5 of the screen!
It's especially visible with white background. It seems that the bottom 1/5 part gets very warm when the phone is doing lots of stuff or charging battery and I think that's when the pink tint is really gettung, well pink.
I will probably exchange it once the supply gets better and my local att store gets stocks. Hopefully you guys are not experiencing this.

Thanks guys for the reply. I've got blue one. It's barely visible as my friends couldn't see it at all lol. I have really good eyes, or I have to say "trained eyes " that I do graphic arts stuff everyday. Color accuracy is critical for my job.
My S2 had blueish tint but it was uniform color temperature for the entire screen. I'm currently using app called Screen Adjuster to mitigate the issue but it doesn't solve the problem because of the uneven color temperature. I really think that the heat at the bottom part really changed the tint permanently.
I'm happy that you guys don't have such problem!

I must say it'll be really hard to find the AMOLED screen with no ink bolbs unfortunately.. I went through 3 S2 Syrockets and 1 Playstation Vita. All of them have those blobs or lines of ink that you can see in a dark room with black or gray background. It's really prevalent issue. Personally I gave up about the issue as its only visible in some limited conditions. Sorry but if you don't have any other problems then i dont want you to exchange it with even worse unit...

If you want to see if your phone has these blobs, do the following
Go into a pitch black room
Set your phone brightness to auto
Open camera app
Turn off flash
take a picture of pure darkness
View the picture in the gallery, and tap it once open so all the bars and menus go away showing nothing but the image
Inspect the screen up close, you may have to wait 5 minutes for your eyes to adjust
If you don't see those blotches, your eyes suck, didn't let them adjust enough to the dark, or you just wasted your luck on a nice phone rather than a lottery ticket!

How do you know that the blotches you see after this test are not just a camera flaw? Did you send the picture you took on the sg3 to another phone and view it again? If the bloches are there, its a camera flaw. If not, its a screen flaw.
Everysingle amoled screen that I have owned had purple tint. It is more or less common on samoled. Especially noticeable when the brightness turned to low.

I really don't buy the fact, that it happens on a particular coloured device, it's the exact same phone! Just a different colour, if it happens to X it'll happen to Y.
It's not like the white ones have a differently designed front where it doesn't have the gap, they are both the same. If dust does get in there, you'll only see/notice the dust that gets contrasted by the colour of the phone, lighter colours would show up more on the grey, where as darker colours should show up more on the white.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I have the dust "problem", but I don't care as don't affect the screen and it is almost invisible.
It's less visible on the white. I've had blue s3 and white s3 same issue with them.
There is variable gaps on the grey also, I've had 2 Grey. Take a paper and drag across the gap. Does it fall in you will get dust filling up. The good thing about the white one is that dust is not so visible.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
For me, this will be minor issue. Note 1 has the same. Taking a sheet of paper and sliding it gently through the gaps helps remove dust. Can hardly see it. imo despite picking up fingerprints like crazy, grey seems like the classiest colour.
I like things staying pristine but gosh, if I were going to worry about eg. possible dust build up between keys on pc keyboard, would go nuts! Gotta accept, its gonna happen. Hopefully casemate or others will produce a tough case that covers these gaps.

I don't have my Nexus 4 yet but I'm very concerned about the extremely warm tones I've been watching on some nexus 4 reviews, maybe some screens are defective? Does your screen have a yellow tone? Are the whites yellowish? I'm very unhappy with my Galaxy Nexus screen because the yellow tone of its screen, this could be a deal breaker for me, is there an app or something to give the screen a colder tone? Aka more blueish not as crazy as the galaxy s iii but you get the idea

For me, if your looking at the phone directly there is no yellow tone, but once you angle it there is some yellow then turns back into regular white. (this gets really yellow when you do this while looking from any corner of the phone) not sure if that makes any sense.
EDIT: i see most reviewers on youtube have it at an angle and makes it look really yellow.
not sure why its like that. maybe it has something to do with the glue lg uses?

Slight yellowing when looking from bottom left or top right corners.
Looks slightly blue when looking from bottom right or top left.
No discolouration at all when looking head-on.
I think it's just how the pixels are aligned in the screen, it was built like that.

Thank you for explaining this.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's going to vary from unit to unit.
I've compared four iPhone 4's side and they all had dramatically different color casts from one another.
Just compared my Nexus 4 to an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S in the Apple Store yesterday, this screen is definitely a bit warmer than Apple's displays. It is sort of yellowish on white pages, but the iPhone's were a bit bluer so it all depends on the software.
It's like you guys are looking for any issue. You can find a flat in any product in this world. The sky is definitely not falling and this a non issue. Just use the damn phone. Lol

No yellow tint here either and I did check with a full white screen well a pretty much blank web page
I have seen a redder tint on the N4 than my previous phone, but it is probably that the other was bluer.

+2 Mine is really good stock. When I tryed some of the custom ROM/KERNEL combos out there, it had a bluish tint... Weird. Stock for me. No creaking or anything else going on either. If it makes a difference, it is a newer build with the nubs on the back.
No tint

A lot of people really on had this issue and it went away for some over time. Dunno if that was a placebo though. Also you can fix it with using kernel with color rgb and gamma control.
We see you meow on our nexus⁴ can we haz some more?
Mine came with yellow tint but went away after a month or so.
Well I'm glad to know other people have had positive experiences with their nexus 4, because I've been having the worst luck in terms of build quality with every nexus device I've owned. I just posted a huge rant about my experiences with the nexus line of products (specifically the nexus 4) and how what you pay for really is in most cases what you get.
I paid 99¢ for my wife's HTC One X.

You pay 650-700$ for an unlocked galaxy s4 and you still get display burn in after a while..
Or you pay the say amount for a galacy s3 and get the corrupted EMMC and sudden death syndrome. (I had an s3 with an affected chip).
One more point, the nexus 4 sells outside the playstore for over 500$/600$. The 300/350$ playstore price is not a regular price.

if you mean the whole screen is yellow tinted from bad calibration, then yes. the yellow splotches that ive heard about, no. ive only seen the yellow tint for a matter of minutes when i first got my phone and flashed it to 100% stock, a custom kernel will completely get rid of it.
No yellow tint on any of the three nexus 4 devices I've used. Now my galaxy nexus... that's yellow!

No yellow tint but when my nexus gets warm, i have a yellow blob at the bottom left corner. Goes after it cools down.
Not great i.m.o. Does anyone else get this?

I got 2 yellow spots on mine but its only noticeable on white backgrounds... One is on the bottom left of the screen and the other is at the bottom right of the screen just right above the navigation buttons
