Granting root permissions - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I rooted my phone using the only avaliable exploit root out currently and was playing around with an app called Du Battery Saver.
I noticed there was an option for controlling the CPU and making it lower while in lock-screen but it needs root permissions.
I have SuperUser and I have tried opening it up, but currently there is 2 apps I am using that are in the list and where ever I go I can't seem to find a way to grant root permissions to this app. Usually when I open the app, it just asks if I want to grant permission to it.. but this one just won't and no google search is helping me out at all.. no info on it whatsoever.
----------
Also off-topic, but I have Next Launcher installed and was wondering if there is a workaround when you restart the phone and it asks which application you want to use for the home screen button, I've google searched it and it seems its like a pretty annoying problem.
I was maybe thinking of deleting Easy Launcher and ToughWiz home so that it defaults to Next Launcher automatically. Would that be possible or would I brick it?

Tell me some more about your phone model etc...

Is SuperUser updated to the latest and its binaries as well?

It's a Samsung Galaxy 4S SGH-I337, the AT&T version
I'm actually not sure how to update SuperUser, it was installed when I used the MotoChopper exploit, here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
I looked it up on the playstore and it just said installed, no option to update or anything.
no options to update within the superuser app either.

ok, I know this is a very late reaction. But I googled this thread because I had the same problem with root permission for Du Battery Saver.
The solution is simple:
You have to activate SuperSu in settings first.
Then when you go to Du Battery and activate Lower CPU frequency you can automatically activate root ...
Hope this makes sense and is mayby of use to other people with same issue.
Bye

bro I appreciate your quick response, and im here breaking my head, can you specify what kind of settings? if I go to SuperSu settings I don't see any option to enable the apps or something, and I really want this app the ask for root permission

I've looked it up, can't tell you exactly anymore where you had to enable Supersu as I don't have it on my new smartphone yet (OPO).
But I found this website with a bit of explanation. sorry can't help you any further. replace the 'dot' by a dot and 'slash' by a real slash as I'm not allowed to post outside links

good luck

If you want to save battery I recommend Greenify over DU battery saver for rooted devices.

Im having the same problem using supersu pro 2.40 du battery saver 3.9.6.5 note 3 n900 lollipop v5
There is no settings in the su as before to provoke permission what should we do
Please help

If you have battery issues you probably have wakelocks. The key is to figure out what those are and eliminate them. I recommend betterbatterystats from the play store. Also read this as a starting point http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31974989

[Q] Random Sprint GS5 questions.

The few questions I have are if I root my Sprint GS5 theres some things I want to know if I can do or not.
1) I wanna know that if I root my phone can I change the color of my pull-down notification center/entire settings menu or change my battery icon in the top right ir just little things like that in general.
2) Im not a big fan of Androids version of Twitter so I was wondering that if my phone was rooted would I be able to get Apple's version of Twitter on my GS5. Or if I could get keyboards that wouldnt normally be available without root access.
Any help or feedback will be appreciated, Thank you.

No. Apple IOS is a different operating system than Android, so you can't run Apple apps on a S5. See if there is an Android version of the app or look at the other Android versions to find a similar app that is to your taste.
Changing icons and colours is a lot easier. Given root, you can use Xposed framework and Wanam to make those changes. Or any number of other theming apps. You could even learn how to theme (make the changes manually) if you wish too by studying the theming tutorials in the forum.
Lots of keyboards and a lot of other stuff that you could never do on Apple as well.

Okay thank you. So you're telling me that "Xposed Framework and Wanam" will allow me to change the color of my pull down notification bar and settings, or my battery icon easily? Because I've wanted to root my phone for awhile so I can get these added benefits but I've been worried that I wont do it right and I'll somehow mess my phone up.

Look for towelroot in the Sprint GS5 forum post I provided (make sure you download the version posted in the forum by CCallahan and not directly from towelroot.com - it will not work: read in the post why) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737724
I did it to my SM-G900P and it was the easiest method ive ever encountered with a phone so far (1 click root) Just make sure to install SuperSU after you towelroot
And yes, download Xposed Installer and search for Wanam mod in the installer's search feature. And also get XBlast Tools. Wanam is for TouchWiz - XBlast Tools are for every device. Combined, you will be able to do whatever you want.
Hope this helps! - zmag

Nothing is risk free, including walking across a street or rooting a phone. But if you took a few minutes to read some posts in the forum, you'd quickly learn that 99% of people don't have any significant problems. If you're still worried, then don't root your phone.

[Q] Which Xposed & module to remove permission on apps ?

Hello,
I do not find which version of Xposed I should install on 2.2.0 to have access on app permission ?
My Google Play Service is pumping too much battery, and I would like to remove some permission, as "keep awake" ....
If someone could point me in right direction ?
Thanks
To avoid battery draining from Google Play services, I recommend getting the donator version of Amplify.
With Amplify you can block Wakelocks and Alerts for specific amout of times.
There is a huge thread about this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
Xposed does not give you app permission access on its own - it is merely a framework. As far as which version of Xposed the OP2 uses, install SDK22 for the ARM64.
Once you have that, download, install, and activate Amplify in Xposed, then go read the topic linked by @GerRudi.

Yes, and fairly well. Xposed apps DO give more control, though. Amplify, for instance, will let you delay wakeups to every 15 minutes or so, instead of simply turning them on or off.

Enabling Call Recording and App Lock

Hey xda People,
can someone teach me how to enable native call recording on the s7 edge please? I rooted my s7 edge few hours ago and I'm done setting it up how I want minus the call recording... can someone help? also can maybe someone help getting App Lock to work? anyone out there knows how it's done?
cheers
I don't know if anybody else has this but after i have finished a phone call, all my conversations are in the Voice Recorder app on my phone inside the recordings tab. Very clear sound on both sides of the conversation. Try that.
Since you have root, get Xposed Framework, then get xTouchWiz Module, its in the settings. I have call recording through this.
Get Xposed here, then flash it AND ALSO get the APK for the Xposed app there,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960
Then get the xTouchWiz module inside Xposed framework, the phone recording can also be configured to on/off toggle or auto record every call.

Use what I've suggested. This is a small mod which doesn't have to go through Xposed.
I prefer system inbuilt mods rather than depending on an app or xposed.
Mental pleasure of making the rom lightweight.

YAAAAAAAAS!!! This is exactly what I was looking for! And I'm 100% on board with u on the Mental pleasure of making the rom lightweight.
I did what u told me. Added the lines in others.xml in the csc folder and and created a AppLock folder in System/Priv-App/ and copied the AppLock.apk in there and set the right permissions.
After reboot nothing.
read thread and installed busybox via playstore and installed busybox from within app. Do I have to keep the busybox app after installing the "framework" or whatever busybox is?
After reboot nothing.
looked at the "code" says something about SmartManager in the beginning. Does this depend on SmartManager? Because I deleted it whilst de-bloating....
trying to get SmartManager to work again right now. In the meantime can someone maybe point out something I could have missed or done wrong please?

It's a Samsung native app which allows to lock apps individually. For example you can lock Gallery using this app with fingerprint, pin, password and have to enter one of those to get access to the app. Very good security measurement.

What's your root method? This happened to me once before also. I was rooted with Magisk so I installed the add GA module. Quick and easy and it was back. If you are rooted with SuperSU then I would recommend uninstalling it with the uninstaller zip found in the SU thread. Alternatively you can install Magisk over the top of it but all the features like Magisk hide may not work. Another option would be to flash a different Rom. Nitrogen and Cortex are both good options and GA should work by default.

Rom Toolbox may be running into a conflict with the Pixel Launcher you flashed. I have a similar root and pixel launcher setup minus fonts and other customizations and my shortcut to RT widgets is broken as it will not create the shortcut on the home screen. I haven't had the time to investigate, but it isn't a high priority for me.
Have you tried a clean flash of the October rom?
- Wipe data/dalvik/cache
- flash your various stock rom images (bootloader, radio, boot, system, vendor)
- flash your root method
- flash pixel launcher and reboot into system.
- Setup phone, G Assist, etc.
- Install Rom Toolbox and desired mods
Lengthy process, but it may be worthwhile to contact JRummy, the author of the Pixel launcher, and sending various logs for analysis and help...
hello did you try to clear cache and data from the google app and reboot? that helped me.

I use Chainfire's systemless root method. I've had GA with this root method before... I'll research Magisk (I've read a little about it, but not enough to be comfortable to jump into it yet) if I'm not able to find another solution. Thank you for your suggestion.

I didn't flash any Pixel launchers... I use Action launcher. I was hoping to avoid wiping all my data, but will do it if I can't get anything else working. Thanks!

It'll be interesting to see how new permission model for restricting background idle usage will effect battery life.
I have a feeling we can squeeze a lot more out of the 821
The answer is quite simple....a lot of missed notifications!

Not notifications, but apps unnecessarily syncing data or using the sensors when in idle.
My phone deep sleeps 65% of the time according to CPU stats and I don't miss any notifications.

TWRP works fine, but Magisk won't work. You can flash it, won't do anything. No errors. It just won't work.
Can't life without Adaway and debloading. So I have to wait

Settings app is real ugly
I flashed the OTA image for my phone... Some of my apps don't work so I'm trying to go back to Oreo. I tried toggling the OEM unlocking toggle but nothing happens after I type in my pin. I tried rebooting into fastboot but it says that I cannot unlock. I am stuck on the preview with crashing apps. I need my apps to work (carrier related). Has anyone else had issues with OEM unlocking on the preview?
Does anyone have a fix?
Edit: I fixed it... Had to remove my PIN to get it to enable... Weird but it works. Going for downgrade now.
