[Q] Chrome or standard Android Browser on N10? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all! Sorry to bother folks but I was wondering how you all felt about what worked better on the Nexus 10 with a CM based ROM, Chrome or the standard Android 4.2.2 Web Browser?
Both seem to work well for me and I think Chrome was "made" to go with this tablet but I was curious of others experience performance wise and website compatibility.
Appreciate any relevant feedback you can provide!
Cheers all!

Chrome for me

I tried using almost all of them last night, and I got best results from the stock browser, boat browser and Dolphin Beta.
Boat is decent, pretty snappy but comes with ads. Dolphin is silky smooth for me, but the lack of flash bugs me. I had slowness, stuttering and touch input lag from both Chromes and the others.
So I go with stock. Running CM current too.

Thanks! I appreciate the opinions! Anyone else care to add an opinion on the subject?
I've been using Chrome but I used the standard browser unintentionally after wiping the ROM and was kinda impressed actually.

To go into a bit more detail about this, both AOSP and Chrome work fine for me. Chrome from what I understand has an updated javascript engine, and password sync though (not 100% sure on the javascript thing). AOSP has flash support.

Chrome here, I like the bookmark syncing.
Also- I've started messing with the experimental options in Chrome.
Type into Chrome's omnibar:
chrome://flags/
I'm not sure what does what, but test and see if certain settings make things smoother, like enabling GPU rendering.

aosp browser is too good for me.

ASOP!

Stock, chrome isn't as fluid as stock.

Boat for Flash, and because it does "mouse over" well.

stock browser vs dolphin hd v5.0?

I just got the transformer and i was wondering which browser between the 2 that you guys like better and why. This is my 1st device with honeycomb so i dont really know which way to go.
i have both. i started out using dolphin cause i was using it on my nexus 1 already but lately I've been using the stock more and more.
they're both good imo. just play around with both and see which you like better.

sorry double post
Dllphin doesnt have graphic acceleration for scrolling anymore in newest version so its a no go for me.
dolphin is a much better browsing experience in my opinion, i didn't like how slow websites were with flash enabled on the stock browser but then again I haven't switch back to see if it's any better since the update[3.1].
stock browser in 3.1 is much better than previous one . flash video is in higher quality than dolphin. finally the swipe thumb quick control is the killing feature for stock browser
I use Dolphin, mainly because of the interface.
Edit: I did a quick benchmark with sunspider which tests javascript. Here's the results:
Stock: 1.7653 seconds
Dolphin HD 5.1.0:1.7919 seconds
Dolphin HD 6.0.0 beta 2:1.8261 seconds

I use both. I like Dolphin because I am used to it. I've used HD on my phone for a while. It has had it's problems on 5.0. It's getting better with the newer 5.1 releases.

The current stock browser now lets you set Flash to "on demand" just like Dolphin.
I tried really hard to like Dolphin but I just couldnt get over the interface.
Plus with the stock, I can easily sync my bookmarks, etc to desktop (Chrome).
I use Dolphin, mainly because of its plug-in support.
Anyone tried Firefox on their TF?
I have an issue where dolphina will not load the page.

You running ICS on your phone?
Used it on OG Transformer with paulburton's ICS ROM. The browser is pretty smooth, and looks just like the pc chrome browser.
I don't have enough posts to link to the file, but it should be pretty easy to find the apk by now.
i tried it on Sensation
its pretty sweet
we need ICS for TF101 now!
Does Chrome for Android have all the same security and privacy issues that Chrome for desktop has?
If it does, i'm sticking with Opera.
Google and Adobe won't support flash for Chrome on Android
Which is either good or bad depending on you.
I use Flash for live video so I don't like this decision. It's a good option to have, you can always opt to not install it

Same thing happened to me. Try moving some apps to the sdcard, that worked for me.
Its slow when loading a link from an app. The chrome browser loads up instantly but doesn't start loading the page for a while.

I love Chrome browser . I've being waiting for this since... well since Android 1st came out
But i'm going to wait for the official ICS for the TF101 before i try it.
I just hope that is not a RAM devourer app
Works great on my Rezound with 4.0.1! This browser is sweet! I would totally dump the stock browser for this anyday, but I kinda wished they kept the darker gray theme rather than going back to light gray..
The tabs sharing with the desktop Chrome is F-ing Awesome! Like what Chrome2Phone should have been all along!
No Flash in Chrome for now. Adobe say they won't support it but hopefully Google will adapt it later.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/08/flash_chrome/
Where be the tab stack? Do we lose that, another Tablet sacrifice?
Fairly stable for me. The only crash I had was with something like 7-8 tabs open (all XDA Prime forums, plus a few chrome blogs, LOL! I like it. A LOT! And typically I am hard to please, especially where browsers are concerned. There are way to many Android browsers out there that are acceptable, but not outstanding. Each has their own little tweaks and claim to fame, but under the hood they are ridiculousy similar. Let's see, I have had on my Prime, at one point or another:
Stock. - Works well. So well it bores me, LOL
ICS+ - A nice set of enhancements. I use it more than the stock webkit browser
Dolphin and Dolphin HD - I like, don't love it. A bit TOO slick, and some things frustrate me. It will be better when the HD catches up to the small screen version, I think
Opera Mini and Opera Mobile - What can I say. 2 solid browsers here. Mobile is a keeper. [
boat browser - Not imopressed, other than speed, it was buggy. removed.
Skyfire - I LOVED this one on my phone in early releases it was amazing. When Skyfire decided t charge me to see flash, I decided to cut them lose. Too many alternatives. It's not THAT great.
Firefox - a HUGE let down, but everyone expected magic here. Didn't materialize.
Maxthon. Very cool new browser.Jury still out on this one.
That's right off the top of my head.
Anyone know how to make the tab "Stack" appear in chrome, or is that only in the phone version, because we have the real estate to see the tabs. If so I am disappointed. That was chromes one big trick pony, and I was excited to try it. So far I can't see the button in top left to enable them, just a new tab button. Anyone?

Just another reason Asus need to pull their finger out, and stop sitting on the ICS update.

what browser do you use on ics?

Just wondering what the majority of you are using as your default browser. I've always used Dolphin hd but been getting a lot of force closes. Still use it though as I love all the addons.

ICS +
Stock browser with added features. Works and integrates quite well.
Disabled stock browser, using Chrome Beta for Android, in fricking heaven!
No Flash support, don't care
Using good old Dolphin for PAD browser, imo still the best.
With best regards, maris
Originally using stock ICS browser but this week changed to Opera Mobile. So far it looks and behaves pretty good.

No flash not a problem for you? I watch a few online highlights (football) sites.
I can't try it myself, it's unavailable here.
Chrome is good for me only to grab the websites i 've open on my computer, then copy paste the url in the STOCK browser...
I just hope one day get rid about this CPU eater FLASH!
just trying out opera now, I'm quite surprised. Last time I tried it images on sites wouldn't load for me and it kept opening mobile versions of sites. Granted it was at least 6 months ago that I tried it last but it seems to have improved a lot.
I may stick with it for a while until dolphin gets sorted for ics properly.

Love chrome. Did not know even a beta was available. Installing it now.
Stock or Dolphin
I use firefox for the sync and the addon. Plus I've been using firefox on my desktop for like 4 or 5 years
chrome beta so far the best for me...
Try tint browser , very similar to to ics+ browser but alot faster

Anyone else worrying about the web browsing experience?

I've got a galaxy note running Samsung's leaked jb ROM. It's dam quick, and web browsing is enjoyable with the stock browser but no way near as fluid and quick with chrome.
Considering this I'm worried the n4 will be lumbered with a browser (chrome) that is already behind the stock android browser. Dolphin beta it's pretty quick but no flash.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Stock "Internet" and "Browser" are around somewhere. AOSP browsers are easily installed if you don't like the Chrome browser.
I think flash player support being dropped from android is going to be a bigger concern than the browser IMO. Although the last flash player still works with JB, eventually something will changed in android firmware updates that breaks it.
Firefox ?

It's very possible that Chrome is weak because you are running a leaked JB rom.
I've run Chrome on my EVO 3D (with CM9), Asus Transformer (CM9), HP TouchPad (CM9) and HTC One S (CM10) and it runs perfectly. Fluid. Quick. Feature filled.
Also, it is not behind the stock Android browser. Now Chrome IS the stock Android browser as far as Google is concerned.
I agree, on my Nexus 7, Chrome was very smooth. On any other device that hadn't an official ROM, it was crap.
Chrome sucks on every device including the nexus 7 I am sending this from. It is so laggy and not 60 fps by any means. I hear there is an update coming soon though to make it better.

As long as the hardware can handle it.
The Nexus S (512mb RAM, single core) has 4.1.1, so i reckon a long time!

No reason not too, after all how hard is it to update stock android? It doesn't have a skin or anything to update.

What Browser are you using?

So question is, what browser are you using?
And what browsers is out there for least battery and ram usage?
Over the years i got used to chrome so much that i just cant make myself try other browsers, even if its not necessary the best one
I had problems playing video within other browsers, including Firefox a long time ago. I've been on Chrome for the past couple years, now.

Exactly this. I've tried so many other browsers... But I just can't pull myself away from chrome. Chrome I think just works better for what I do/need.
Chrome Beta or Dev. Gives a good glimpse of experimental/upcoming features.
Used to use dolphin and only reason i didn't move away was i had lastpass, now i use keepass i've moved to chrome and i much prefer it.
I've been using Chrome for long time and I don't plan to change that anytime soon.

Chrome got a stranglehold on me on both phone and desktop. I can't get jiggy with any other browsers.
Chrome. Mostly for the syncing. It's so good. It's not the fastest by any means. Aosp browser blows everything it if the water for speed, but not worth giving up syncing for me.

CM browser is fast..dolphin browser for flash player..:good:
Like Dolphin as my daily driver....
Chrome Dev. Regular Chrome crashes webpages way too often on Android N.
Forever on Chrome as well.
Opera is the best BY FAR! Like not even any close seconds.
It's pretty quick, smooth (mostly)....but the main thing..REFLOWS TEXT!!!
Google got rid of reflow text so you would be forced to see their ads. Chrome sucks because who wants to keep scrolling constantly to read!
Makes a huge difference.
Also can set to use Desktop sites. Highly recommended.

I'm pretty sure chrome, Firefox and most browsers can be set to use desktop version of the website you're visiting.

That's not the selling point. Reflow text is. Try it out.
It makes it SOOOOO much better than Chrome.
Why do some people got for chrome beta instead of just chrome? Are there different features?
