stock browser vs dolphin hd v5.0? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I just got the transformer and i was wondering which browser between the 2 that you guys like better and why. This is my 1st device with honeycomb so i dont really know which way to go.

i have both. i started out using dolphin cause i was using it on my nexus 1 already but lately I've been using the stock more and more.
they're both good imo. just play around with both and see which you like better.

sorry double post

Dllphin doesnt have graphic acceleration for scrolling anymore in newest version so its a no go for me.

dolphin is a much better browsing experience in my opinion, i didn't like how slow websites were with flash enabled on the stock browser but then again I haven't switch back to see if it's any better since the update[3.1].

stock browser in 3.1 is much better than previous one . flash video is in higher quality than dolphin. finally the swipe thumb quick control is the killing feature for stock browser

I use Dolphin, mainly because of the interface.
Edit: I did a quick benchmark with sunspider which tests javascript. Here's the results:
Stock: 1.7653 seconds
Dolphin HD 5.1.0:1.7919 seconds
Dolphin HD 6.0.0 beta 2:1.8261 seconds

I use both. I like Dolphin because I am used to it. I've used HD on my phone for a while. It has had it's problems on 5.0. It's getting better with the newer 5.1 releases.

The current stock browser now lets you set Flash to "on demand" just like Dolphin.
I tried really hard to like Dolphin but I just couldnt get over the interface.
Plus with the stock, I can easily sync my bookmarks, etc to desktop (Chrome).

I use Dolphin, mainly because of its plug-in support.
Anyone tried Firefox on their TF?

I have an issue where dolphina will not load the page.

Dolphin Browser Mini

If you have not checked out this browser you might want to. It runs great on my tab. It's really smooth and even makes the xda website not as laggy. I think it might be what i use from now on...at least till I find something better, but best I found so far.
I've been checking it out as well and after five minutes I made it my default browser. I think it's awesome and runs better for me than any other browser I've tried.
opera 10.1 beta is the best with no lag but has no flash support
What's the difference between this and dolphin hd?

Ive been using this browser for the last day, and all Ive gotta say is WOW! Lag? What lag? It just runs so damn smooth. Much love for this browser so far.
i will say again opera is much faster and lag free

I think you'll find that most of us have already tried Opera - it's good and fast, but IMO Dolphin Mini is just as fast and supports flash.
I'll only revisit the non-Webkit browsers (i.e. Firefox and Opera) once they support flash.
Regards,
Dave
Miren browser has been my default for a couple of weeks now. It is also very smooth and without lag. Are you running stock firmware?
Sent from my Galaxy Tab, running smooth on Roto-JMC!
I'm wondering the same thing...

Didn't really see much of a speed difference between Dolphin Mini and Miren, so I'm sticking with Miren for now.
Try this edited version of Miren Browser
Has anyone figured out a way to import Dolphin Mini's bookmarks into Miren?
It seems Dolphin backs up its bookmarks to a proprietary format only for Dolphin.
I want to start using Miren, but don't want to manually enter 60+ bookmarks.
Maxthon is my current browser. It seems that Dolphin Mini in my tab is having problems to close, well, its tabs. O_O

I mean, if you open Dolphin Mini and try to click the "x" mark to close the tab, it won't close.
For your question, I am not sure if you can. For the HD, you can download the, "Bookmarks to SD" add-on.
I'm glad I read this. I had tried dolphin HD and didn't care for it.Mini does run great on my tab though. Thanks

Same problem for me, also when you click in the address bar to type, you have to manually delete the address that's there to type something in. Wish it was highlighted so when you start to type it clears it. It's nice and fast though. I'm going to try the Miren browser nowas well.

Can someone answer this please?
Miren didn't work out for me. Downlading from Mediafire, rapidshare...etc sites do not work. It always downloaded an html page. Guessing it doesn't handle redirects correctly?
Ive tried every single browser in the market on my tab. To be honest, I prefer HD to mini. Dolphin Mini is a light version of dolphin without all the extra bloats. it takes less space on your card but the ram usage during use didnt really make that much of a difference. I noticed maybe 3-5mb difference in usage

Slowness..

Is anybody else finding that browsing on the Transformer is painfully slow?
We all know about the browser keyboard lag (really annoying) but finding web pages slow to load, especially if it is more complicated Google+ for example.
Does rooting and using Prime for example make any differences to performance of this device??
it did make a big difference and also u need to tweak it abit on those animation becoz it did improve it ! i just flash to prime 1.6 yesterday with blades's kernel 1.7 OC to 1.6ghz and it open everything in a flash ! it is really fast
but the stock browser is well known laggy if i am not mistaken they it is fine when using opera
dolphin is okay too.. seems like the keyboard lags when typing in forums but is fine in the search bars for me.. :-(?
Thanks, I guess I will root it then.
Yeah, I have found Dolphin better ... not tried Opera yet, might give that a whirl too.
I find that browsing with any browser on the TF is painfully slower than PC or even my iPad.
I'm rooted on prime 1.6 with a 1.6 OC. Performance is notably better than stock.
Agreed - dolphin beats stock browser for speed but not for rendering accuracy in my experience (I have not run dolphin 6.0 against the acid3 test yet.)
All in all - browsing on all my mobile devices (Transformer, iPad, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC HD2) with any browser (Safari, Dolphin, Opera, Stock honey comb etc) just makes me wish I was using Chrome on my PC. It would have to be number one on my wishlist for the next generation of devices. Give me a super fast and easy to use browser and I will forgive any amount of OS/APP/Hardware concerns.
My first tablet was an Archos 101. I can't believe people can call browsing "slow" on the Transformer.

NO ... loading times with Opera are horribly slow, but scrolling and typing is lightning fast.
I'm on a stock TF and loading times with the stock browser are only a bit slower than on my Win7 notebook.
I've now rooted and using Prime 1.6r2, much faster ... still a bit laggy in browser but not so much of a problem anymore

my stock browser is fast, opera is faster but not as smooth, set flash for on demand, it makes it a bit faster in stock, just click the arrow for flash content in page to view. Google+ is painfully slow on my TF, but the same on the Ipad, god knows why as the full FB web page works fine. Typing lag is my only real dislike in the stock browser, hoping 3.2 will help.
I'm hoping Boat Browser comes out with a Tablet optimized browser. It's blazing fast on my Evo 3D.
De browser is indeed slow. Especially on sites with javascripts. Seems something wrong with java engine? ! Seen some reports that browser was faster before 3.1 update?! Got mine already with update. Can someone confirm that? If its true this should be fixed hopefully next update?!

Opera is the fastest browser hands down in every category.
Opera just seems to hang when loading certain pages. For example I just did some speed tests using the same site for the stock android browser vs the Opera browser. The android browser routinely takes 3 seconds or longer to render any web page. The Opera browser will sometimes be displaying all its content but never actually finish loading. It's a glitch.
Don't get me wrong, Opera definitely is the fastest, but it is not without it's faults. You can enter a wall of text into a chat reply box only to have Opera completely delete all of it when you go to send it. NOW THAT is frustrating.

Try turning off opera turbo. It makes slow connections faster(compression) but it actually slows down fast connections merely because of the extra step going to the Opera proxy servers.

what browser do you use on ics?

Just wondering what the majority of you are using as your default browser. I've always used Dolphin hd but been getting a lot of force closes. Still use it though as I love all the addons.

Stock browser with added features. Works and integrates quite well.
Disabled stock browser, using Chrome Beta for Android, in fricking heaven!

Using good old Dolphin for PAD browser, imo still the best.

Originally using stock ICS browser but this week changed to Opera Mobile. So far it looks and behaves pretty good.

No flash not a problem for you? I watch a few online highlights (football) sites.
I can't try it myself, it's unavailable here.
Chrome is good for me only to grab the websites i 've open on my computer, then copy paste the url in the STOCK browser...
I just hope one day get rid about this CPU eater FLASH!
just trying out opera now, I'm quite surprised. Last time I tried it images on sites wouldn't load for me and it kept opening mobile versions of sites. Granted it was at least 6 months ago that I tried it last but it seems to have improved a lot.
I may stick with it for a while until dolphin gets sorted for ics properly.

Try tint browser , very similar to to ics+ browser but alot faster

New Firefox Beta worth trying

The new Firefox beta is quite impressive; it's way better than the crap they released to the play store and I thought I'd share. Enjoy.

Agreed, give it a try. It's pretty darned good.
Still really slow in comparison to Opera Mobile, and the Firefox rendering is flakey at times.
No real reason to use Firefox on Android right now when Opera is offering Opera Mobile.

For me, Opera Mobile is actually slower than the latest Firefox nightly. With the bookmark sync, it's sweet, fast and useful. Scrolling is far smoother than the stock browser, too. It's pretty much what I've been waiting for Firefox to do. Quick controls aside (I will miss them), I think I can finally get away from the stock browser for a lot of things now.
this is much better then previous version. scrolling is pretty smooth. can't wait for final version
I'll give it a try simply for the fact that it is open source.
It's pretty good, although it's not available in the market/play. Download from mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/
I've been using Dolphin browser on android for a few years, and this might be a replacement.

The nightly has a setting to request the desktop site. It's not in the beta version.
FYI, there are a few versions: nightly, Aurora, beta, stable. Nightly is the bleeding tip of the sword, Aurora is the pre-beta, and so forth. You can have all versions installed seperately and they don't overwrite each other.
I downloaded a few, and these are the versin numbers I have now:
beta 14.0
aurora 15.0.a2
nightly 16.0a1
I'm sure it would help the devs out if you ran one of the non-stable versions and turned on the performance tracking.
I just noticed that the nightlies have their own link (see OP), and the more stable versions have a link (posted a few posts back)
It is slow and still isn't touch friendly. All the controls are at the top like a desktop application. The "tab" hack is pretty horrible.

I have yet to see a browser on an android tablet establish the key 30fps stable...the stock browser is beset, with chrome a distant second, and dolphin behind it.
Firefox was by far the worst junk I've ever installed on my tablet. I sure hope they've made improvements, because honestly, I liked the tab management better than all the other browsers on offer.

[Q] Chrome or standard Android Browser on N10?

Hey all! Sorry to bother folks but I was wondering how you all felt about what worked better on the Nexus 10 with a CM based ROM, Chrome or the standard Android 4.2.2 Web Browser?
Both seem to work well for me and I think Chrome was "made" to go with this tablet but I was curious of others experience performance wise and website compatibility.
Appreciate any relevant feedback you can provide!
Cheers all!

Chrome for me
I tried using almost all of them last night, and I got best results from the stock browser, boat browser and Dolphin Beta.
Boat is decent, pretty snappy but comes with ads. Dolphin is silky smooth for me, but the lack of flash bugs me. I had slowness, stuttering and touch input lag from both Chromes and the others.
So I go with stock. Running CM current too.
Thanks! I appreciate the opinions! Anyone else care to add an opinion on the subject?
I've been using Chrome but I used the standard browser unintentionally after wiping the ROM and was kinda impressed actually.

To go into a bit more detail about this, both AOSP and Chrome work fine for me. Chrome from what I understand has an updated javascript engine, and password sync though (not 100% sure on the javascript thing). AOSP has flash support.
Chrome here, I like the bookmark syncing.
Also- I've started messing with the experimental options in Chrome.
Type into Chrome's omnibar:
chrome://flags/
I'm not sure what does what, but test and see if certain settings make things smoother, like enabling GPU rendering.
aosp browser is too good for me.
