Finally "Viber" is released on android.. All my mates with iphones use it and its a really cool cross-platform app.
"Viber is an application for iPhone® and Android™ phones that lets you make free phone calls and send text messages to anyone who also has the application installed.
You can call or text any Viber user, anywhere in the world, for free. Viber integrates seamlessly with your existing address book, has great sound quality and once activated, does not require a PIN, username or any additional "in application" purchase. All Viber features are 100% FREE!"

A really cool app,but I have some questions!
1.Do I have to be connected to the internet, via wifi or 3G?Does it consume my 3G data when connected via 3G?
2.How much Megabytes does a typical call cost approximately?
Nice. I ll try it today.
I was testing the Beta before. Great...but you need wlan for a good Performance

Hi m8, you do need a data connection and according to the folks at viber it uses approximately 240 KB per minute up and down, 14 MB per hour up and down. I'd assume that is under ideal conditions (dont know what they are tho). i've heard it works way better on wifi than 3g..

And how is this different from Skype, qik or facetime?

Hi m8, not sure of the exact differences but heres some general ones..
1. Viber’s interface is very easy to use – it looks completely similar to the iPhone basic application, and this makes a huge difference for most users in the world. Simple elegance is what works.
2. Viber does not require login/password in order to log in, unlike the great majority of VoIP applications today, but instead it uses the user’s original cellular phone number. This makes the registration process very quick, and helps users find other friends who have Viber very easily. This way more and more friends recommend each other to install Viber, and have free calls.
3. Finally, Viber doesn’t have to be open when receiving a call, thanks to Viber’s support of Push Notifications feature. This means that Viber saves battery, and that users are always available to receive Viber’s free calls.
not working on my sg3
Not sure why but SMS works, I can hear but no one can hear me. Have used wifi. Now even linphone does not work (even echo calibration fails).
Am on JP4 with g3mod 1.3.2 performance. Am not able to find the issue here. Phone works but any voip app does not.
Is there anything I am missing here. Voice search works but voice dial does not hear me either.
UART and USB are both set to PDA (not sure if that had anything to do here) and dev mode is ON.
Hmm I'll try this with some friends

You should post this comment under the comments section of the viber app on the android market because the OP is not the developer for viber.
From what I've seen of this app, it works pretty well, but I'd recommend What's App. I wonder if they both connect to the IOS version of this, not many of my friends have Android phones
I've looked throughout the forum and I haven't found any concrete answer to my problem. Is there any way I can receive group texts across platforms? So if my friend sends a text from his iphone to multiple people (including other iphone and android users), it will show in one thread? If there is a solution, can someone post step by step instructions? I saw that ATT messages does this but I don't like the UI. Sorry, I am new to android and would really appreciate the help.
EDIT: Also, if my friend sends that group text, if does show up in a thread, when I respond I want the app to respond back to everyone in that thread....thanks for the help guys
Without a 3rd party app, it's not possible. If your friends get Chat On or Whatsapp (I have both and they are both very good since they use data instead of cell to send messages. Also super fast), you could group chat across all platforms.
EDIT: Also some extra info about the apps, they are connected to your phone number so as long as anyone installs it, you will see them on your list. No need for usernames or anything, it uses your number. I also prefer the Whatsapp app because I guess it's a bit cleaner you could say but they are both good.
You can do group texting with Handcent and goSMS...need to enable an option in settings.
I've seen this question pop up a lot, but I thought I would see if any Nexus 4 users are having a problem on 4.2.2.
I participate in a group SMS chat with 5 other people. Everyone is an iPhone user, except one person who is on a Blackberry. The text messages from the Blackberry user show up on my N4 as individual texts to me, not in the group message.
The only way I've gotten this working is by installed a 3rd party app called GO SMS Pro. Since installing that, the Blackberry user texts now show up in the group message on both applications (stock and 3rd party).
From everything I have read online about SMS and MMS, this would seem to be a problem with the Blackberry user's texts, and iPhone is just handling it better than Android.
I would really like for this to just work in the stock app. For now it is, but I don't like that it just magically started working after installing the 3rd party app.
Thoughts?
Loving the phone running wicked rom with kt kernel on att. Everything has been great but even with group messaging turned on I can send the group message but comes back one person reply in group message and the other not. Anyone experience this issue with the s4 yet? Thanks in advance.

My phone originally seemed to work great for group texting....now doesn't seem to work...idk
And neither of you are on stock rom are you. The Rom you're on doesn't support group messages.

Group Messaging on both stock ROM and CM10.1 Nightlys have worked fine for me. It all depends on who you're sending it to and how they handle group messaging.
Prior to the S4 I had a iPhone 4S. I regularly have a group message with two iOS users, and one BlackBerry user.
On iOS 6.1.2, it handles it fine. One box for all 3 users. Every response from all 3 users would go into the same group box chat.
On my S4, with stock ROM, using both stock messaging apps and 3 different Messaging apps I tried out, and on CM10.1 Nightly, it has some issues but its the other devices causing the issue. Same 3 users, 2 iOS and one BlackBerry. I can group text all 3 users. They will all get my group text in a Single box. The two iOS users responses will show up in the group chat. However, the BlackBerry's response will show up in a separate box from just that user. (Hard to tell if they are talking to just me or the group).
This is due to the nature of group messaging. By the standard spec, MMS and SMS messages do not allow group messaging. However, there is non-standard protocol and headers in MMS and SMS that will allow for Group Messaging so long as the phone supports it. That's the tricky part. Because there's no standard for it, every phone and device implements it differently. When I send group chats its sent as a MMS message. iOS picks up on this and replies in kind with a MMS message. Apparently BlackBerry, at least the way my friend has it set up, it gets the group message but instead replies with a SMS. Apparently iOS had a way of deciphering that the SMS was a reply to that group chat, and throws it in the same group chat. However, Android is not able to tell that that SMS belongs to the group chat for some reason and interprets it as a separate text.
So it's all about what devices/settings your friends have set up and whether they reply in the correct manner that Android can respond in.
Thankfully for me 90% of my friends have iPhones which does support group messaging fully, at least where it can interact with my S4 properly, and so long as they have the "Group Messaging" function turned on it Settings>Messages, so it's not much of an issue for me. Just this one friend with a Blackberry I have a issue with. Theoretically you would run into issues with Android so long as they have Android 4.2+ or GoSMS or any 3rd party Messaging app that supports groups.
Which App do you prefer? Android Messages by Google or Default Messages App by OnePlus? Tell us why choose it?
SMS Organizer - Clean, Blocker, Reminders & Backup
SMS Organizer by Microsoft, best app I've ever installed on my phone. Has great support for OTPs and Financial SMSes as well. I believe it's only available for India, but hope they soon expand.
There's a pretty great article about it as well on AndroidCentral: https://www.androidcentral.com/micr...rfect-messaging-app-you-can-only-use-it-india

+1 for Signal. It might not be quite as full featured as other ones, but I prefer the security of it.
