Ok, this phone is sick - One (M7) General

I just got it yesterday (dev edition on Tmo), and I gotta say it's awesome. I love it.
Switching from an n4 with stock android was surprisingly not as big an issue as I thought it would be. HTC Sense actually works quite well. This was my biggest concern.
Also, little has been said of the phone as a music player. Using my LG Tone+ BT headphones, the sound is absolutely stellar! By far the best sound on a phone I've ever heard, and that includes the iPhone. Aptx Bluetooth sound is crystal clear and truly amazing. My headphones sound nowhere near as nice when paired with my n4.

Congrats on your phone. Enjoy it. It sure is a sick phone

Congratulations on your new One! Happy days ahead I went from HTC Desire HD > Galaxy Nexus > HTC One, and I have to say Sense feels much more pared down now, and it didn't take very long for me to adjust away from vanilla Android.

Same here guys, coming from Galaxy nexus and nexus 4. This device is so freaking awesome. Sense is pretty good too, didn't have a hard time switching from stock vanilla android

New to Galaxy S3

Ok so this is my first touchwiz phone & i wanna know if you guys are loving this phone as much as i am. coming from an htc one s, everything is better imop. display, signal, battery, and it has an sd card! only thing i miss is sense but its worth it
Sent from my S3 using xda premium
Yeah the battery is crazy good. I came from the one x and I miss sense only for the UI. I think this touchwiz adds much more
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
yea I don't mind touchwiz, & battery life is excellent. I'm waiting for the port of sense for the S3 though. Also I prefer the one S aluminum built, & One X polycarbonate but S3 is ok as well

I thought touch wiz was pretty good for stock out of the box interface.
You may want to try Apex or Nova launcher at some point, it allows UI customisation.
yea I was actually surprised, I tried touchwiz on the exhibit and it was meh

I am currently using the Go Launcher EX on my Galaxy S Mesmerize phone. IS the Nova launcher better?
I'm coming from the HTC X One (Had mine stolen on Friday night so decided to buy an S3 on Saturday)...personally, i love the s3. I've always been a strong HTC fan and hated the s1 and s2...i can overlook the poor design on the S3 for how it actually works. Fast, Reliable, Colourful and great battery compared to the X One.
A Happy customer overall

Apex is the best I have read...
Both nova and apex are worse than stock for me, hard to explain but the framerate of transition animation is lower on apex and nova than it is on stock and it really hurts my eyes, for that I can't use them.

What you guys think on the US versions sound?

Is it me, or is the sound like REALLY bad. I know it doesn't have the wolfson chip, but i was still expecting better. Any music being played sounds really bad. Even videos when you turn it all the way up, its not even decent. Same thing when the headphones are plugged in.
Mine sound nice...
Mine sounds great, and the amp puts out some decent power so driving decent headphones is easy.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Hmmm wonder if somethings wrong with mine. It's not cracking or anything. Just seems low turned all the way up, and when i mess with the settings Rock, jazz, bass, etc etc, it just doesn't seem right to impress me.
I'm coming from the tbolt...wich had decent sound IMO, so my standards arn't unrealastic
Mine was loud even using bluetooth headphones.

Good. Not awesome but good.
Mine passed my sound test, I play Pink Floyd's High Hopes off The Division Bell, at the beginning the is some low ambient sounds, I play the song through Google music with a semi decent pair of headphones, and with the volume in the "normal" range I can hear the crickets etc.
Its 3× better than my HTC one x half as good as my iPhone 4s. I can deal with that

Ehh its ok, for your average joe it will be fine. But if you consider yourself and audiophile then it is still not as good as the iPhone 4. Head over to head-fi.org they have some graphs and eq charts of the S3. The consensus is that iPhone 4 > International S3 > US S3.

Whoever said that is full of it, I've used all 3 generations of SGS, AND the last 3 generations of iPhones, the SGS always sounded better to me and most others, and this is using half decent headphones, not the included crap ones, listening to FLAC or 320kbps MP3s

Audio problem with new Nexus 7

Purchased new Nexus 7 32gb with mobile data, frankly I considered it the best tablet I own (I own 5 including an iPad 2 and a 16gb Nexus 7). Suddenly today while listening to some music the audio became super static-ey , like a busted stereo speaker. My replacement is on the way but I wondered if any else has had this experience.

So maybe we just got defective units, because my first N7 was a 16gb and its still working great. I just upgraded for more storage and mobile data which made it almost perfect. They will probably break down and give it an SD card slot and a rear camera and it will reign supreme in the tablet world.

Actually I believe the speakers are just coming loose in the housing.
I have seen this happen with phones before.
Not a big deal though...replaced with new with no issues.

New Nexus 7 Sound Chip

On my original Nexus 7, the sound chip is very bad, at max volume the sound isn't even medium loud on my headphones.
I use PowerAMP with bass boost and treble boost on (I listen to electro mainly.) How does the new Nexus 7 compare?
Also, can someone compare the new Nexus 7 to S III in sound quality on headphones? Mainly how long each can go? The old nexus is terrible compared to SIII.
The new sound chip is really really good. Like really good. I use similar headphones comfortabley at about 25-35% volume, Clarity is great, good DAC.
i agree as well. i like the new sound chip as i listen to trance. and to add the new speakers and layout work better as well

As stated in the thread you linked, this does not affect headphone output, only the speakers on the tablet's output so it's not entirely relevant to the OP's question.

I'm finding its close to my HTC One coming through the headphones. Won't go quite as loud and clear but it definitely has impressed me. By far better than the first gen nexus 7!
Is the sound good because it's good? Or is the sound good because of how crappy the OG nexus was? The sound is the only thing I hate. Headphones and speakers. Makes me wonder if mine is defective. Or maybe I shouldn't expect more from a budget tablet. Would love to see more opinions.

About the topic, I use my own custom made earphones, with superb bass, with AwesomeBeats mod. Works like a charm, though ViperFX also improves sound quality, I'm comfy with AwesomeBeats because its simple. Try any audio mod(requires rooting).

While I wait for the N4 to arrive

Hello all,
I have just ordered my Nexus 4 and while I wait I'm looking at all the apps/Roms/mods for it. I have chosen N4 over S4 or HTC One mainly because of the price. I hate the fact that this will be my 3rd Android experience without acceptable audio recording in videos with loud environment. Finger crossed for a fix but I doubt it.
I think I made the right decision although Nexus phones don't excel in best hardware they are very well optimized running pure Android and not to mention the latest versions. The development for this model also is better then S4 and HTC One
From what I have found so far I am going to get Faux kernel and sound and I will also install the mode to improve the camera quality and maybe enable LTE.
If anyone has other advice or apps/ROM/modes that you think they are worth please post them here. Thank you devs for this wonderful forum! Cheers!

Audio recording in loud enviroments is impossible due to the way microphones work. Take a $5000 microphone and it'll suck at it too.

I have asked on other threads if anyone can test Faux Sound and modify the Camcorder Microphone Gain to -10 or -15 I think it will make the recording OK but I can't yet test since I'm still waiting for the Nexus to arrive .
Everyone is obsessed with modifying GPU and CPU values but there are few who are interested in sound and those that are care only about the quality when listening to music. I think it's very important to be able to record OK sounds even if the sounds are loud. I know about the copyright thing and believe me this is not the issue since there are still phones out there that record good sound. If you are are someone's birthday and you want to record some memories you will have to ditch the sound
Wonder if Nexus 5 will still have this issue and finger crossed for 4.4 to allow mic gain control.
I finally have my Nexus 4 with 8GB. I have it for about 1 week and I have not root it. Did anyone managed to reduce the gain on the mic to record K loud sound?
I think this is the most amazing Android experience yet and I don't mind about the battery or thermal throttling at all.
I am even pleased with the 8GB since I have 50GB on Box and 15 on GDrive.
Only complaint is the poor sound when recording loud sounds.
