Audio problem with new Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Purchased new Nexus 7 32gb with mobile data, frankly I considered it the best tablet I own (I own 5 including an iPad 2 and a 16gb Nexus 7). Suddenly today while listening to some music the audio became super static-ey , like a busted stereo speaker. My replacement is on the way but I wondered if any else has had this experience.

So maybe we just got defective units, because my first N7 was a 16gb and its still working great. I just upgraded for more storage and mobile data which made it almost perfect. They will probably break down and give it an SD card slot and a rear camera and it will reign supreme in the tablet world.

My speaker started sounding like crap fairly randomly....rattling like broken.
Actually I believe the speakers are just coming loose in the housing.
I have seen this happen with phones before.
Not a big deal though...replaced with new with no issues.

Yeah! Got replacement Nexus 7 32gb in hand, hope it is as sound as my original 16gb. I think this is my favorite tablet, OK, I love this device, OK ... I said it. I wonder how many others got slightly defective units, and if they got a solid replacement. I don't care if I have to send for 5 of these until I get one that's right.

I have a question. I recently rooted and installed that beats drivers thing on the market. It sounds..average (using headphones BTW) the.. I decided to uninstall , the audio just sounded so off. Then, after removing the file in system, the audio sounds HORRIBLE. Base is distorted as hell! Someone help! I tried to use equalizer but it says something wrong with my framework!!!

[Q] Is it hard to find a nexus 7 without defects?

I returned mine yesterday, the only one I've had so far, because of some backlight bleed and screen lift, I was planning to replace it with a new N7 but it's really complicated to find one sometimes and the store was empty, so I got my money back. At the moment I mean to get another as soon as I find one with no defects, but with all I've read I must ask, is it that hard to find a N7 in good shape? I was loving this tablet so much, but right now I'm even thinking about getting an ipad mini instead because of it's problems...What do you guys think?
I have a CAO 32gb, bought at Tesco in Chelmsford 2 weeks ago. Extremely happy, with no problems, so it is possible.

Bought mine couple of days ago and haven't notice any screen lift or other defects.

I've had mine for a few months. Nothing wrong with mine.

Got my 3g on monday... Everything seems fine except for the slight delay with the power button when waking the device...
Got my 3G yesterday and it appears defect free! Quite pleased really as I was getting worried reading horror stories here. Maybe Google/Asus finally getting the QC right?
I'd say chances are fairly good - perhaps 70%?
You should be able to find a good one.
Well I'm getting one for Christmas. I know that my mom bought my 16gb from the local Staples. I'm hoping it is defect free.

I have C90, ithout defects. Then the motherboard died it started rebooting... now got it back from repair and all OK for couple of days,...
Got a an issue free one on my first shot, C80 with no lift or hardware problems. Good ones are definitely out there.

Now that demand isn't so insane, I think more tablets will have fewer defects. The 3g n7 I got a couple weeks ago doesn't appear to have any issues. There might be a slight bit of backlight bleed from the left side, but it's hard to notice it without looking hard for it.

My c90 purchased almost a month ago is defect free. So they are out there!

All fine!
I bought my wife the original 16gb one soon after launch and I've had a 32gb one for just over a month, and not the slightest issue with either! I have to say I think the build is great on them, just waiting for Android to get even smoother as it can still lag from time to time even with "project butter".
No trouble here. I got a C60 16gb 4 months ago...no issues, and picked up a C90 32gb wifi version two weeks ago (the "old" one is present for daughter) ... no issues with it either.
I can't be THAT lucky if the issues are so rampant. Good luck.

Should I still purchase Nexus 4

Is it still relevant or a good choice to purchase a nexus 4 from play store I'm got a Galaxy Nexus which is in horrid condition cracked screen broken headphone jack horride battery life but with the "nexus 5" coming up should I hold out
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The Nexus 5 may or may not come but people switch phones anyway so for now I would recommend the Nexus 4.
In fact the battery is just out of this world and standby is even more impressive.
Despite some minor hardware issues such as the speakerphone buzzing sound which you can only hear in a silent place placing your ear to it, it is a really good device.

Like andyabc said and also IMO it's a very good device
However, since the Moto X will be released within two days from now, you should wait a couple of weeks, the Nexus 4's price may hopefully reduce.

New Nexus 7 Sound Chip

On my original Nexus 7, the sound chip is very bad, at max volume the sound isn't even medium loud on my headphones.
I use PowerAMP with bass boost and treble boost on (I listen to electro mainly.) How does the new Nexus 7 compare?
Also, can someone compare the new Nexus 7 to S III in sound quality on headphones? Mainly how long each can go? The old nexus is terrible compared to SIII.
The new sound chip is really really good. Like really good. I use similar headphones comfortabley at about 25-35% volume, Clarity is great, good DAC.
i agree as well. i like the new sound chip as i listen to trance. and to add the new speakers and layout work better as well

As stated in the thread you linked, this does not affect headphone output, only the speakers on the tablet's output so it's not entirely relevant to the OP's question.

I'm finding its close to my HTC One coming through the headphones. Won't go quite as loud and clear but it definitely has impressed me. By far better than the first gen nexus 7!
Is the sound good because it's good? Or is the sound good because of how crappy the OG nexus was? The sound is the only thing I hate. Headphones and speakers. Makes me wonder if mine is defective. Or maybe I shouldn't expect more from a budget tablet. Would love to see more opinions.

I find the sound quality through the headphone jack is just average. Kind of muddy to be honest. I thought the original nexus 7 had a better DAC than this new one. Speaker sound is of course better than the original

I take back what I said, I had the equalizer on and it made the sound poor. The old 7 doesn't sound as good as the new one.

There is a static buzz at low volume on the speakers which appear on most if not all of the new nexus 7.

Don't have it on mine, but I do have a little dust on the upper left corner.
About the topic, I use my own custom made earphones, with superb bass, with AwesomeBeats mod. Works like a charm, though ViperFX also improves sound quality, I'm comfy with AwesomeBeats because its simple. Try any audio mod(requires rooting).
The sound on the 2013 nexus 7 is really good, I mean without headphones on it, it's totally another world from the first gen nexus 7.

What devices do you have? I will do some comparisons if I have any of the same devices that you have. I have a Note 2, Evo LTE, Evo 3D, Asus Infinity, 4th gen iPod Touch, and an iPhone 4.
Just so everyone knows, the iPhone 4 was free, I'd never buy an iPhone! I just use it as an iPod (never been activated by me). I did buy the iPod Touch when it was released though......SMH......

Headphone jack broken?

Hey everyone, so today while walking home, I noticed that one of my headphones wasn't working and I was pretty pissed because I love my headphones, anyways, so I tried my other headphones and experienced the same problem, so I concluded my phone broke. So, I've spent about 20 minutes poking around with it and blowing air into it, and I've managed to get one side working, but the other side isn't. One thing I noticed was that the side which isn't working is the side with the mic and these headphones -do- have the 4th prong. I don't have any 3 prong headphones to test with, so I'm going to go to my friends house and test with his, but does anyone know how to fix this because I love my four-prong headphones because the clicker and they're just awesome. Thanks, all help is appreciated.

if its in warranty, they will fix it.
Rooting and all never matters for hardware damages!
Hmmm, I bought it off craigslist, but it was brand new, do you think warranty applies? And do I call LG(

Who do I call to get an RMA?

Hey all, I wanted to ask a couple questions.
1. Is the headphone jack under warranty by Google? Like, one side stopped working.
2. Who do I call/email to get an RMA
3. Are RMA'd phones bad/do they have any problems? One thing I like, don't know if this makes a difference, but in the CPU bin, my phone is "fastest". Don't know if that actually means anything, so yeah.
Thanks!

Oh, and also, should I restore to stock before sending it in?

What do you mean one side of the headphone jack stopped working? You only have one headphone jack.
You have to call Google to request a RMA. I don't think the phone you get will be a defect. That would be counter productive. The CPU bin won't matter. They most likely won't check to see what CPU bin on the phone that will be replaced for you. You should factory reset your phone before sending it in. They might give you a new phone/refurbished device.
Like, one side of the headphones stopped working, also, what's their number? I can't find it o.o

It sure doesn't sound like it's the headphone jack. It sounds like the headphones are broken.

This exact problem happened to me as well, Not so long ago...
Maybe about a week ago at most. My left ear cup is gone but my right ear cup is still working perfectly.
I think it's the contact between the jack and the plug. I'm sending it in next week for a replacement.
I've had my N4 for 9 months until this happened lol
Let me know how it goes!
You ain't the only one.
(855) 836-3987
You have a Google Nexus 4 why not just search google for their number... LOL The phone is under warranty for a year so check when you got it or they will let you know when you speak to them but its not like the new one is expensive at all. How did you get the phone through web or off somebody
Call Google if you bought from Google or call LG if bought from somewhere else(i.e. T-Mobile). And when i was on the phone with Google a week or so ago for an RMA, they said it would most likely end up being a refurb. device.
