I too would be willing to donate to this cause. However, I've been testing with GrooveIP over Wifi, and it works extremely well. Call quality is excellent and you can use it for incoming and outgoing calls without using your plan minutes. I'm using the $5 pro version which integrates with the native dialer, so you makes calls just like you would normally. I know this isn't the same thing as T-Mobile's Wifi calling, but it's a good solution nonetheless.
Best chances of it happening will be when opitmus g with JB is released by T-Mobile. Need system dump with rils, maybe some libs and maybe an apk will be in there. That's what we had to do with the G2 and many older devices when ICS came out. But might be a few months before u see anything. I heard rumors T-Mobile are setting up SIP support but its just rumors
I second the endorsement of GrooVe IP. I don't have my N4 yet (caught in Play Store limbo, like so many others), but in anticipation I've been testing GrooVe IP lightly on my LG G2x and have found it to be very good, with audio quality noticeably better than wifi calling.
sipdroid with a free pbxes account. disable all codecs except speex. excellent.
I really wish google would improve the native sip client...
i'm in for $30 for nexus 4 wifi calling. a lack of wifi calling is only thing holding me back from getting a nexus 4. I have zero tmobile signal inside my house.. (okay, a little at one corner, but not where my home office is.. )
I'd love to get a nexus 4.. but only if it has wifi calling.. even if it is a terrible cm7/gb2.3 hack to get it working.. Obviously, IMS calling would be best.. but as long as it works..
I use groove Ip for my wifi calling. I fwd all my calls to my phone anyway since google voice is my main number, when I get home and connect wifi, groove IP takes over and I receive calls on my phone anyway.
I haven't had any issues using this method on the nexus 4.

Using your Nexus 4 for wifi calling with Groove ip do the people ever mention echo or dropped words? I ask that because using my tablet for such calls I can hear a little of both. I have fixed some of it via settings for Groove ip but it is still there some and I was wondering if it worked better with the phone?
It might be possible if the T-Mobile version of the LG Optimus phones with the same hardware have it. Assuming someone can hack it together, and the differences in OS aren't a show stopper.

My testing has mostly been by calling my other voicemail line and listening to the recording, so it's only been short segments, but I haven't detected any echoes or dropouts so far.
I've made hour long calls to landline and mobiles with absolutely no drops or issues. In fact the quality is better than what I experienced on vzw. I would say it is on par with my FiOS landline phone. It will of course depend on the quality of your WiFi connection, particularly jitter and latency.

I had echoing when I first used it, but solved it by enabling the basic echo canceller. It send a beep when the call connects then auto magically adjust the device for echoes.
Haven't had a problem since.

I didn't realize google voice costs $20 to port my number to them. PLus the $5 for GrooVe IP, I'm going to be into this for $25, but at least I should be able to use my phone in my house again.
Has anyone tried Bobsled for this?
u are not alone in this hunt... good news is... 2013 is a good year for voip.
so first off all let me just tell u, ive been hunting for a good FREE VOIP, 4 wayyy to frigging long.
but i have finally got the perfect COMBO of apps that get the job done, and might i add quite well too!
first go set up ur google voice account and get u a free number....
download google voice.... pray ur phone has had service at one point or another....and google acceepts ur phone to allow u to use google voice (google voice is a pain in the ass to get it to register sometimes)...for some reason they want only people with active service to use their service... which makes no sense at all.....but... sometimes those free texting apps that give u 10 FREE minutes calling will do it....
then go download gv+ or mo+ (same friggin thing_ same devoloper) - seems like when one is acting up i can uninstall it and download the other and it will work perfectly for about 2 months then i gota switch back to the other again... its odd...
but i can call anywhere in america for free.... no questions asked... as long as i download voice and install it also. idk
i actually use voice for all my texting and then when i wana call sum1 then i use the mo+ app. and it works flawlessly. no weird numbers, no grainy calls, no echo... its wonderful!
Just thought i'd post an inquiry after having it drive me nuts now. I'll try to describe it but the subject should be descriptive enough!
Basically what happens, you go to dial a number (or dial from contacts) and the phone calls out then hangs up (hangup tone) then quickly dials your intended number. When you look at the call log you see 2 calls, one being 0min 0sec then the next one right after with the amount of time you spent on said call.
I saw this in another thread and decided to make a thread about the topic instead of clouding up that one:

I have directdial feature on my SIM which allows me to dial international numbers directly. My AT&T MVNO includes international calls - H2O Wireless but you normally needs a access number, their new SIMs got direct dialling now and I think that's what's causing the double dial thing.
When i dial an international number it sends me to the access number then my phone pops up a toast that says "Sending" which then sends the actual number i'm calling. It then connects after some information about the call. I think it does this for all calls on the N4 but then drops the first call to the access number and dials the number straight to the local number instead.
What's weird however is i don't have that issue with my SGS2 and the NEW SIM cards so it's something with the N4.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-4/236548-solavei-google-voice-2.html
Seems to be going on there too with the double dialling issue but obviously with a different provider.
same here
You're absolutely right, I had noticed the same issue but never really thought of checking the call log. After reading your post I checked my call log and every single outgoing call had been logged twice. The first had a zero second duration and the other had the actual call duration.
Solavei
Theres a couple of use having this issue on the Solavei network! i think it might be a bug with 4.2 and mvno's. we tried reporting this to our carrier but they have no idea what can be causing this! I have replaced sim card, phone, and deleted the google voice app and none have solve this issue! i think we have to contact google and let them know about this issue.
I've had a similar issue. I'll type in the number hit send, then after i put the phone to my ear I hear it dial the number and I get nothing until I end the call. In the call log, it shows 0min 0sec but it's not duplicated. Strange thing is that it only happens when I dial a toll free 877 number. It's never happened on local or long distance call or on 866 numbers. Haven't tried an 800 number yet.
about the double dial... i noticed a different issue few days ago...
i dont get a double dial for call log... but what happens is
after i finish a call... the phone automatically dials the second last person from the call log...and disconnects the call automatically...
first i got scared of whats happening and but call never went through... it got disconnected after a while
I have the exact same problem as shotta35. I'm in Canada, so on a different network most likely (rogers).
I've tried the factory reset, didn't fix anything. Tried switching to EDGE mode, doesn't do anything. enabled/disabled bluetooth (in case it was some kind of bluetooth dialing thing). Incoming calls don't seem affected in any way.
However, this hasn't happened every time to me. there were 3 or 4 calls where it did work the first time, just after a reboot typically.
Anyways, still looking into it and hoping someone can find the solution because this is annoying!
Any updates on this? Quick question for the ones with the problem. Is your Sim cut or micro? Is it rooted?

My Sim is not cut, and yes I am rooted on stock ROM!
Ok I'm on solavei with a cut Sim card. Rooted using mmuzy ROM. So the problem could be root. I asked about the Sim because last week I was on straight talk with micro Sim and had no problems. What service are you on?

With solavei
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I doubt root would be the cause of this but I guess anything is possible. I had the same carrier with an older SIM (manually cut) when I first got my N4 then upgraded to the microSIM. With the original SIM I didn't have the double dial thing but I rooted around the same time I switched SIMs so I don't remember when it started.
I have this too. If you use Google voice, even as VM only as I do, it double dials on outbound calls. Only seems to happen with solavei if you have voice installed on N4. Doesn't happen with any other phones with solavei AFAIK.
I just don't care I'm so pleased w solavei otherwise. I tried porting my phone # to Google voice previously, and I hated how text messages would not be left alone with the stock app. Then I tried T-Mobile prepaid and I found out it doesn't let you use Google voice as VM. So given that I have Google voice voicemail and SMS working properly finally at least, this bothers me very little.
I found that if you return a call directly from Google voice voicemail it only dials once..

double dialing fixed
I had the same issue, and I finally figured it out. I`m on Rogers Canada, so I switched my sim with my wife`s (on Rogers as well) and my Nexus 4 had to restart. When booted up the problem was gone. Next day I went to a Rogers store and bought a new sim, activated it and I`ve been using it for 24 hrs now and the problem is completely gone.
Another issue that got fixed was using the 2 second pause or hard wait while dialing. I guess when the phone was double dialing it dropped the pause/wait in the second dial. but now it works perfectly.
By the way new sim is LTE enabled, and I have LTE enabled on the phone as well and it's working fine.

I switched to net10 a few days ago and I use text banking pretty often, mostly just to quickly check my balances. This morning I got an email from my bank saying my number was carrier disconnected. I was able to go back in and re-add my phone number and it's working again. But does anyone know if net10 has some sort of issue with me sending and receiving texts from 6 digit number? If this keeps happening I don't think I can stay with net10.
I always get something like that when I change carriers, even though your number is the same (I'm assuming you ported over you number). It should be fine now.

I have a problem. I recently switched to my note 3 from an I5 and love everything except for there doesn't seem to be a way to text via wifi. I have a lot of classes in the basement or in labs at my school where data service is non existent but on the iPhone I could I message over my schools wifi..... what can I do with my note to mirror this? It drives me and my wife nuts that for hours at a time my phone is a paper weight unless we talk via FB messenger which eats up her data plan.
Is there a solution to this problem or is this phone doomed to not send a text using wifi data?
You my friend may be outta luck looking to text via wifi. Something I wish I could do. You probably was using Imessage on your I5 which can use wifi

If you don't mind having a Second phone number for texting, Pinger might be your best bet to txt over wifi.

If you don't mind having a second phone number to text from, you can set up a Google Voice account. Then you can send texts via wifi with the VoicePlus app.
You can also use hangouts

I was going to suggest hangouts as well. I don't use it but I'm guessing it would work over wifi
Take a sec and hit thanks if I helped or if you're in a good mood!
FYI, one additional limitation of Google Voice (yes, it works over WiFi) is that can neither send nor receive MMS.
Which means that if you text using your GV number, you have to hope your friends and relatives will be able remember that they can only MMS you using your cell #, but not your GV #. They won't get a notification that an MMS sent to your GV number got silently dropped, and neither will you.
Looks like Hangouts is supposed to do both
https://support.google.com/hangouts/answer/3441321?hl=en
(although I haven't used it yet)
but YMMV may vary depending on country. (Same goes with GV too I would presume).

Sounds like you found the magic answer, however, your SIM card may only be provisioned for data only. Take the SIM out of your phone and try it.

in looking at the user manuals it appears the T337T does not have an additional microphone (for speaking into as in a phone call) unlike the T335 which does. This indicates to me that the T337t could not be used as a phone even if someone managed to get the phone app, modem etc all to work together (unless microphone arrangements were changed and even at that would not be worth the trouble-unlikely it would work well-as the folks using CM/AOSP on such tablet phone devices-no solution for echo issue due to speaker/microphone config)
