There are numerous video's out there showing things the HD can do but MY version certainly can NOT. And despite how cool these features are, surprisingly hardly Anybody talks about them, I find almost no information anywhere on this forum or on Google.
Check out this video, for example. A nice demonstration of LOTS of features that to my knowledge do not exist on the HD:
http://www.theunwired.net/?item=videoview-hands-on-with-the-htc-touch-hd-windows-mobile-smartphone
- First of all, the thing that caught my eye the most, is THE LACK OF THE ZOOM TRANSITION EFFECT BETWEEN PAGES THAT WAS IN ALL THE PREVIEW VIDEO'S.
- Then, there's the the IN CALL RECORDER application. Where the heck is it?!
- And even more important (yes I like graphics), the OPERA TAB SWITCHING, with its Cover Flow-ish way of showing all the open tabs as separate windows in semi-3D... See the attached screenshots. Also note how the buttons in the browser (at the bottom) are aligned differently. Can I get this Opera version somewhere?
The list goes on.
Why are these things not in the HD, or are they in yours and just not in mine?? Is it some firmware update I don't know about?
Please, enlighten me.
why they have removed the tabbing feature is beyond me.
I wonder if these are features that can be enabled?
My girlfriend has the Nokia N96 and her version of Opera even supports this. No, it does not look as fancy with the reflections and all, but the same tab windowing is there.
Also they said this version would include Flash Lite 3.1 well I can't even watch a video on the YouTube site. It does show more than without plugin (the movie overviews) but no playback.
And the zoom effect... As stated in a different thread it may be a performance issue, I can imagine it can cause freezes and instability, just like with the Manila tab-to-tab scrolling where you would see one screen flip away and the other one in, like on the first Diamond firmware versions. They just removed that transition because it lagged a lot.
Too bad.. The zoom effect looked really nice, albeit a bit iPhonish...
The Opera tab navigation is a mystery to me though. It's completely unrelated to other software and so it would not cause instability, it's just a missing feature in Opera.
And where is my in call recorder?? Such a tool seems very handy in a lot of situations, such as when contacting help desks, customers etc.
hi guys,
i'm also very interested to enable or find the OPERA TAB SWITCHING like on symbian nokia or iphone, it is really great;
and another thing, i want to have more than 3 pages open at the same time in opera, and it is set to 3 maximum...do you know where to set more pages allowed.?
thanks
While I agree it sucks that some features were pulled, it happens. One feature I do like (a lot) that was left in was the zoom feature in Opera (not the tap on page thing).
Click on the magnifying glass (bottom left) when in full screen mode, zoom away.
I am currently working on a new framework to use on top of CF, that allows for fingerfriendly development on Windows Mobile phones, and would like to hear your thoughts and ideas (of cause this is a really early version).
The idea is to mimic the way that you create winform applications, but since it is based on the GDI+, you have the possibility to use it all the way from throwing a few buttons in an application, all the way down to just using the graphical manager to take care of load balancing.
Have a bit more details on my blog along with the first sample video showing the scroll feature, and the transistion effect between panels (basicly the same as forms).

So if there are any features that you would like, please write me.
We need a solid 2.1 discussion thread based on the new video leak, I've compiled some information here for you to enjoy, and none of it is certain so please don't jump conclusions.
Additionally, I've downloaded the video for everyone to enjoy and you can download the 8:41 Original Clip via Megaupload with the video rotated so it's correctly viewed. Lastly, you can view the video via Megavideo if you want to watch it instead of downloading the 93MB file. [Standard Quality]

can't this guy cut the video down to 4 minutes, since the first half only shows an endless booting HTC Hero...not that "quietly brilliant" imho

My kingdom for this ROM... (While waiting the official one)
I am always wondering why these people always make poor quality video, like they never used a phone before, and why they don't share the ROM.
The show nothing usefull on this ROM and they made a lot of manipulation mistakes. Is that a video from HTC tho show people that they work on it but without showing anything interesting?
I'm so excited with this new Video!

First of all, lots of respect to the devs for all the work they have done so far. The last few weeks we've gone from almost nothing to one of the most complete android ports of all windows devices.
Now for the topic: I'm a (beginning) software developer and after a lot of development on the .net framework I started learning java last year, at university.
I was wondering what parts of android are actually written in java. I know that the linux kernel and stuff is written in low-level languages like C(++) or even assembler. On top of that, Android runs a java virtual machine (called drupal if I remember correctly).
Does the built-in software, like for example the standard camera software, run in java, or has it been written in low-level languages to improve speed? If it has been written in Java, can we actually edit that code from the roms that are commonly used?
If so, I think there are a lot of people that could look at stuff like fixing the video camera (by changing the button layout in that mode for example) and other small bugs that occur on higher software levels. I think there are a lot of people that know nothing about kernel development but do know stuff about java (or similar OO-languages like C#) that could help out with stuff like this.
Am I on to something here? Any people that can tell me more about this?
i dont relly know
up up !!
in XTarantula's ROM the Stock Video Camera works with sound.
his build is based on Android 2.1 (Eclair) update 1.
Model Number is Nexus One and is fully stock (even with Stock Launcher, no launcher pro preinstalled.)
its a great build, im just waiting for a Froyo Build with the same features.
hope this will help: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/ui-events.html
-Limited HW support.
-All FPS games. (No mouse detection in games).
Devs are finally working on it!
-Wine 3.0 and Linux apps support through OpenThos (Reason: to make Phoenix OS a perfect Windows replacement).
Reporting to devs.
-Drives are not shown on any app except for the File Manager.
No solution yet, Stickmount bootloops Phoenix OS (Idk why).
-No tethering & hotspot options. (Any sharing app can't be used)
No solution yet.
-Kodi works but video playback is a little bit laggy. (Codec problem?)
Solution: Disable HW acceleration and HW acceleration (Surface).
-HDMI audio doesn't work. (according to the user DrewYK, tested by me and didn't work too).
-Note for old 64-bit users: Intel Core 2 Duo and older PCs are not supported due to the lack of SSE4.2 (Android 6.0 except Remix OS and later requires SSE4.1 and 4.2), so users must install 32-bit version of Phoenix OS, or see the solution.
Solution: Phoenix OS 2.2.2 for 64-bit PC without SSE4 req. (Chinese site).
Thanks for reading!
Sorry for the bad English BTW.

It seems the 2.64 version, stable and fast.

Thanks.

I think that best choice is to provide up to 4K resolution, because Phoenix is a desktop OS and many people uses 4K display.
A workaround is "wm size hhhhxvvvv" (wm size 2560x1440) using the terminal, but it introduces some issue with font scaling and some program don't reads the real resolution.
Other thing requested from ALL the users is the auto update for Google Services, and i think that is possible to provide a method to download and install the latest "open" version.
Last thing, the patchlevel is very old...
Thanks, U.

Last thing: the bootloop.
Many users (me too) reports a bootloop. The machine try two, three, ten... twenty times, and finally the GUI starts.
It is needed a boot log to understand what fails during the boot process. Whay the GUI fails to start?
Looks like a stable version of Phoenix OS 3.0.1 has been finally released!

Good Luck!

Yes Ahmad, i saw.
Honestly I'm a bit 'fed up with its developers who do not listen to user requests (not really mine), and as soon as the public version of Chrome OS will enable the support of the Play store I will abandon Phoenix OS ... along with 218 systems Desktop that my clients migrated to Android from Windows 7, choice made to avoid the uograde to Windows 10 (all very satisfied).

Fun fact: I use Remix OS more than Phoenix, because it has better hardware support but unfortunately no sliding in the keymapping.
Jide used to hear the consumers when they were active, they were the first piece of software to remove adware (Fell Lucky, Apps' ads, etc...).
And they tried to improve Remix OS as they could.
But how will you install the public Chrome OS on the PC?
If you can, providing a dualboot tutorial would be great.

Remix is Android 6.x, good for hobby but not for professional use.
For the keymap you can try an app called "External Keyboard Helper"... my english is bad, so i hope i got it right
For me and other people I follow Phoenix runs fine, but the patchlevel is VERY old (2016), high screen resolutions are not supported and it is hard to start without bootlup.
But when it start it is rock! very fast and very stable.
To install Chrome OS on PC exists two distribuction, but the Play Store is NOT supported, so it's absolutely useless.
Please, if you can contact the Phoenix developer, tell to provide high resolution support and the bootlog.
Thanks.

Alright, I will try to contact after being a moderator (I wish so).
About Remix OS, the big problem is trying to record something crashes the app, and I can't even make a call in any app (probably due to media storage).
About the keymap, External Keyboard Helper is not a keymapper at all, I will try Game Helper on Remix OS.
If you try to switch multiple languages, press Ctrl+Alt(or Win)+Space or Win+Shift.
Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Space (as said) don't work.
Anyways, I'm trying to bring Remix back to the game.

Why?
If you want to work on an Android Desktop I think is better to fork Phoenix than to resume a dead OS.

Neverware CloudReady. They may or may not update their code to support the Play Store. But if they do, this will become the best option for my ASRock Beebox N3000.
---------- Post added at 11:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:46 AM ----------
Fork ChromiumOS and add Play Store support. This is where real progress can be made.
I found an OS called FydeOS, which is similar to FlintOS (I thought Neverware acquired FlintOS team already).
The big difference is that Android apps are finally supported! Link: fydeos.com
Cheers!
Ahmad.
please. check. phoenix. its not working properly. game keeps on lagging and crashing
I installed PhoenixOS and everything is fine except when I install "Fifa Mobile" it doesn't register anything and even when I assign buttons to the app from the game helper. Does this count as a bug?
