Tip: Photosphere without the black holes - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just realized this myself, thought it might help others. I've been enjoying the Photosphere panorama tool on my new Nexus 10, but I wasn't a fan of the fact that there's a big black hole at the top and bottom of the panorama.
And then I realized (via this thread) that there needn't be!
If you've been getting the black holes, here's how to prevent them: shoot with your tablet in portrait orientation, rather than landscape. Your shots will now cover a full 360 degrees horizontally and vertically. (Watch out not to get your feet in the Photosphere!)
Also, one I realized myself: you can pinch-zoom the Photosphere tool to get a larger preview, making it easier to keep the tablet still at the right point...
Hope these help somebody!

Yeah that was useful info. Thanks for sharing

Vibrant Macro Pics

Hey Guys,
I have a 100% bricked unit a person donated for work.
I took some macro shots. First time. If anyone can give me hints on how to get them more clean / close etc. I will do more.
But, here you go.
Smaller images

Well, you basically need to change the resolution to something higher, and change the settings in the camera to macro mode. From the looks of things though, your camera won't allow close-ups in high detail.
I change to macro. I think i need a tri-pod to keep it steady. my hands shake
Yeah, change resolution to something much higher. Even if you camera doesn't have a macro mode, we should be able to zoom in pretty well. The more natural light, the better.
New pics up using a tri-pod.

let me know
Hard to tell on there... not even close to macro though. You'll need to get a macro lens to get real close.

I took the screws out of the plastic cover and was going to take some close up shots for you, but when I did it didn't seem to come loose on it's own. I assume that I'd need to pry it apart which I wasn't going to do since it's not bricked, lol....
Mine is just a simple 12M cam. Nothing special. Its not a SLR. But if you have a vibrant open. please take using a prof cam
How did you get the black plastic cover off? Are there some tabs or anything I need to push in, will it go back on nice after I take it off? I'd glady take real closup shots of all the components if it's easy to get that off.. I took out all of the screws thinking it would just come loose, but it didn't. I don't want to jack it up, I'm not the most graceful when it comes to working with small breakable parts. Would hate to jack up my new phone, haha.

Well this phone was taken apart already. and its a total brick.
He told me he had to remove the silver plastic.
The rest I just removed the screws and the connectors. Very simple.
What you have uploaded is maybe a 1mp image. When pulling images off the camera dont allow any resizing, and when uploading to the webpage dont allow any resizing. We need that 10mb+ file to view things properly. If your using your vibrant to take a picture of this vibrant, dont waste your time.

i wonder if the FF camera from the SGS is a combined vga FFC / 5mp main camera? you can see the hole in the chassis clearly in your pictures and its RIGHT behind the main 5mp camera.
it'd be interesting if you could obtain the FFC or the dual lens (whatever, forgive my lack of knowledge on the proper terminology) unit from the SGS and put it in a vibrant.
probably more trouble than its worth, but maybe not?
MOD, Why were these two threads moved? These are DEV threads. not Gerneal threads. Please move them back.
Thanks!

A Quick Adam Hands On, in case you needed another one

I wrote this up tonight after receiving the LCD version of the Adam today. Be happy to answer any questions if there are any not already answered here. The hardware is awesome.

Installing apps via .apk directly is a go. Should have read up first but thought is was relevant to let you all know just in case.
looks great!
Would love to see more of the LCD screen. Have not seen much of the LCDs and from your quick look it looks very good. Would like to see viewing angles and comparison with a high quality screen (eg iPad, samung phone or tab, ...).
Thanks for your first look and write up! Great to start seeing info on the LCD Adams!
Thanks for the initial blog post, pictures, and video! Like Greg G, I'm also interested in hearing more about the LCD screen - quality, viewing angles, comparisons with other devices/tablets. I'm tempted to switch out my pixelQi order for an LCD version.
I would like to see viewing some videos, hulu, anime (animedreaming or other sites), as well as reading comics (jjcomics viewer) in portrait mode. Please tilt as much as possible, perhaps take some lounging on a chair and or even laying down (serious).. Just to see every possible viewing angle, most people would be using their devices in.
Thanks,

[Q]Partial photo sphere ghost?

So I've been taking partial photospheres for awhile now, what i do is take a photosphere only partially cause once it renders it fully fits intagram without cropping and it gives a wide angle (fisheye) look. But by doing this, on the "stitched" area there is something that appears to be a dark smoky effect(ghost) on it. Please refer to the photos and please shed some light on how you guys fix it.
Ive been getting tons of compliments for doing this, they just cant wrap their head around on how i did it using only my phone without the fisheye lens accesory. And for those who doesn't know, im just sharing it to you guys enjoy
Note:
First photo: a lil bit on the middle left where the kids are
Second photo: on the bike itself
Third photo: outside the window
Fourth photo: on the bush right beside my car that my dad is fixing
Sorry for the long post

August Drawing Theme - Self Portrait

Last months theme wasn't much of a success, but as the creator of the idea I didn't do much to promote it with any drawings early on, but am hoping to change that this month (portraits are a preffered subject of mine).
Can be any style. Head only, full body, you in your environment, what ever. Help us put a face to a name...
As you know, this is a very busy time for me. Moving house and also product sourcing materials to expand my range. Had some sketches I lost when I had to wipe my tablet, but apart from that haven't had any time to do anything except play for a few minutes here and there. Would love to get involved with this, but can't make any firm promises at this point.

Heres mine! I sat a few hours yesterday using dropbox and floating browser as my "mirror" in Ps touch. Please note that i am 14 years old with no previous experience of art school or thr like and just bought my note 8 because i like to draw (to justify my summer-working money on it i said i would use it for notes in school.). Constructive criticismare very welcome as ive seen that virtually everyonr here is a lot better than me at drawing and I will gladly listen to any advice you have. For the glasses and the head being smaller there, that is what you get when you are nearsighted and have 3.50 on both eyes.
Never had lessons in digital drawing eh? You are on the right track. Great shading and use of colors and depth. It may not be realistic looking, but you have a talent that many (including myself ) wish they had.

My self-portrait contribution. Auryn Ink app. You can't damn save or underlay a reference picture, and the worst - erases the entire what you are working on if you rotate or press the back button. Though the closest to replicating watercolor behavior.
I didn't mean to make it as a formal portrait. I've be done lots of those for other people. Quick sketch. Unfinished drawing. I'm happy with the way it is.

Looks good to me. I'm still getting used to drawing on a tablet and the main thing I have learned is not to be affraid of layers and as a general rule build up a drawing from back to front. I'll try and get something up this week. looking to do my rough sketch and outline work this week. I'll end up with quite a few layers on mine. Rough outline. sketch. ink. then varous shading layers. 1 for back ground. 1 for skin. 1 for hair and 1 for details and a colour layer.
Looks like you have the patience and thats the hardest thing to learn (something I'm still struggling with). Keep up the good work.
Spent 20-30 minutes starting my initial sketch. layerpaint. first layer was rough outline and general shapes (done in pencil. 100%. red). then i added a new layer to start my sketch proper. pencil. 60%. black.
I'll continue my sketch to get more detail in it then move it to a different app to shade. I'm thinking clover paint, as it can import PSD files and unlike sketchbook pro, has a smudge/ blend tool but I haven't confirmed that it does all that I want it to yet so have not purchased it as of this moment.
I may do some more tonight, but my girlfriend is getting on at me to finish editing our photos from our weekend in brighton 2 weeks ago so she can make one of them her profile picture. More to follow...
Imported into clover paint and coloured. Shading still to do. Need to practice hair.

Good!
I've been doing portraits since my secondary school. The biggest thing i learned about after 2 decades of of on and off doing portraits is just being lose. Going with the flow. Yours is such.
A lot of people consider portraits to be the hardest to do. Not really so. All drawings have the same principles of edge, angles & proportions, shape, and shades & shadows.
All you need is the 50% light - 50% dark formula for contrasting.

I finished this on Wednesday but forgot to up load it. Felt I learnt a lot in the process. Gonna do a few fun pieces now, but may do another portrait before the end of the month:beer:

Very nice!
I think it's a very nice drawing hertsjoatmon, I like how you've made the eyes look so natural, thats the part where I always fail. When I draw eyes i either fail completely while drawing the left one, or i get the proprtions totally wrong

Camera question - Can someone test this for me on their A7?

I use my camera to take pictures of documents, it's faster than scanning them in - I'm finding something that bothers me.
If I focus on the center of the document, the top is a little fuzzy. If I focus at the top, it gets fuzzier as it gets to the bottom. I don't notice it on regular pictures I take, just when I take an up close picture of a document. You can even see this on screen as you are looking at the document.
Can someone take a picture of a document, focus in the center and see if it's all phones, or just mine?
I've attached a picture, you can see it's "fuzzy" at the top of the document, but still legible.
[EDIT]
I noticed if I folded the top of the document towards me, it comes in focus.....So it's almost like the lens is warped possibly? If this is an inherent trait of the A7, I keep it.. If it's just mine, I'll send it back for a replacement, because this is something I do quite often.

Really? Hmmm
I just spent 30 minutes on "live chat" support....I sent the original picture and they seen my issue. They walked me through the normal "stuff" and then had me restart in Safe Mode. After restarting in safe mode and taking more pics and sending them all to the tech, they said it looks like my lens is slightly tilted.
So, I had the option of:
1) Having them fix it with a 10 day turn-around, which means I'd be without a phone for 10 days
2) For an additional $79 they'd send me an exchange first, "Advanced Exchange", so I wouldn't be without a phone
3) Going through with my Amazon exchange and hope I get the replacement before my 30 day window is up to return the faulty phone.
I told them I'd go with Amazon, but if yours is like that, I'm wondering if I should just keep mine now?
Thanks for testing that out for me!

Yep, looks identical to my issue. Regular pics look great, just the close up's are an issue.
I'm gonna think on it and leave my exchange in place until I decide.
Thanks again!

Haven't tested yet but my theory is that the part/section the camera is focusing is clear and the rest of the image is having a DoF effect, i have to test this out but is just an idea.
I don't own the phone yet so i can't test it :/
But trying something similar with my Find 7 i got this :
So we have the same effect, just much less pronounced...
I'm no expert in the optic behind a smartphone camera but isn't it just due to the fact that the top of the page is at a far greater distance than the middle ? The difference between the two distance is too great for the camera to get a good focus of both. This would explain why it's only showing on macro pictures...
EDIT : Well, seems i got the same idea as @DrakenFX but he was faster ^^'

^^^ That plus soft edges which most of these lenses will suffer from unless the are premium glass elements. Is there a way to shoot in the 4:3 mode instead 16:9. I think the wide sensor is exposing edge blurring even more

Yeah, here is a screenshot from the Camera settings
Mine does this as well...I took side by side pictures all day with my op3 and thr op3 was substantially better. Making it 4:3 helped some.

the 4:3 will force you to move away from the page in order to capture it fully, which should in turn decreases the DOF and soft edge effects. Not sure the 16:9 sensor was a smart choice, samsung went back to 4:3 after S6 because the blurring on the edges was too much.

Could you also do a low ligth shot at full res and 12MP, i am interested how the pixel binning will affect performance. If you can post exif data that would be great. Makes me wonder at what res does the Night Mode run...
