[Q] Locked Out - Acer Iconia A500

Happy Sunday!
So I have an old Acer Iconia a500 laying around, and I decided I wanted to play with it. Turns out I forgot the password because I haven't used it in so long. Its connected to my home wifi, but whenever I enter the password incorrectly ten times it doesn't show the Forgot Password? tab. The volume rocker is completely broken, so there goes that option. Its also not rooted. Any suggestions? I don't care if I lose all my data.
Thanks!

Do you have access over adb?
If so, this should help.

I don't have adb installed, but I'll give it a go later this evening. Hopefully it works, and I thank you!

No prob, good luck.

I finally got a chance to try, and I wasn't able to. I don't believe I checked usb debugging in settings. Anything else I can try?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

There's only one way out of this and that's a complete erase of userdata and cache I.e. hard reset/factory data reset.
If you had custom rom on there most of them have usb debug enabled by default that's not much help with yr issue tho.
If you have the v8 then use fastboot, see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35500578.

The tablets not rooted. So I'm not really sure what to do.

You are meaning the password on yr Acer aren't u? Then the button combo hard reset is yr only option sorry.

I tried everything. I decided to just do a drop test on it. It didn't hold up well haha. Thanks everyone though!

Experts Needed:Nexus S 9020a is bricked for real

I bought a bricked Nexus S form the marketplace. I tried to get it in to download mode and it is not working at all. The phone is charging so i know it has life in it. It is not recognized by fastboot or odin. I have a jig and I tried it and failure striked again. I really need experts because the phone is to nice for it not to work and i know it is no such thing as a fully software bricked samsung android phone.
That is amazing. I thought for sure that you could get it working with no problems.

power it off. power it on holding the volume up button and power button at the same time. if it goes into the bootloader mode, then its not bricked.
Take out the battery and hold the power button for 20 secs
Uncle Jimmy says hello
If you can go to bootloader mode, you can flash clockwork recovery and install a rom.

I think i need a JTAG service to revive this thing. I will pay the 50 bucks. By the time i buy all the equipment it wouldn't be worth it.
I need a pit file to reformat the phone. Please help.

A real brick of a phone.

Long story short, bought a DX at a good price hoping to flash and sell. Here's the best part, the phone will not charge or be reconized when its on by a PC. To makes things worse...I factory reset it hoping it would take care of the issue and when it boots, it boots to no home screen (black screen, white top bar). I can't sbf, can't load the home screen and it wont charge when on. It does charge when the phone is off.
Anything I can do? I just don't understand why it will charge when off but not on and because of that, there is no connection to the PC so no way of sbf'ing. Phone is currently 2.2, 30.03 bootloader.
Any help would be appreciated!

pm replied too hope it this helps.
i was just thinking of something. you may not need to do what i suggested in the pm i sent you.
try this FIRST!!!
charge the battery (obviously) and power up the device. if you cannot see the screen plug in a hdmi cable to your tv.
press the Menu key when you're at the Home screen or a pane, then select Applications -->Development. USB debugging to turn it OFF.
if it is already off....then turn it on.
either way hopefully when you plug it in the drivers will install to your pc. if not then follow the directions i sent you in the pm. goodluck.
note: i do not know if it will work as i do not use hdmi on my device. but hopefully it displays the homescreens on your tv.

nexus s vibrate

hey folks, just noticed my nexus won't vibrate at all. tried messaging settings and all options are checked. I've tried as much as possible to get this to vibrate with no luck. think it's toast?
does it give you the little bumb right when you turn it on?
take the battery out put it back in then hold the power button. it should give a vibrate then. if not, then yea you need a new vibrator.
Not going to say it.....just not going to say it. =p

thanks for the reply guys. Did a battery pull and still no luck. This is my wife's phone so its not rooted, and with all the games she plays I'll never hear stop hearing about the loss of progress. Installed a few different keyboards to see even if the haptic would fire up, no luck. She said it worked a few weeks ago, but noticed recently that it's gone. I went through ever setting I can find to try to test and and still not a shake.
Sounds like ur gonna have to use ur factory warranty.
Sent from my Nexus S
thats what I was thinking...ok my device is rooted so I can use titanium. Her device isn't. Is there any way to pull her game saves off the device without a root? If the nexus had oneclick root/unroot I'd rip that off no problem. The two rooting methods are quite different, and especially with this going back don't want anything to void the warranty.
Yea bro, sounds like your wife wore out her vibrator. You can root without unlocking the bootloader iirc then use titanium then unroot. Copy the backup to your PC then swap phones

been looking through root posts, haven't seen a 2.3.4 that doesn't wipe....

you should be able to do a
Code:
adb pull /data/ /data/
and
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/ /sdcard/
that will copy her data partition where the games are and the sdcard partition to a folder wherever you ran the command. i haven't tried this but without root there isn't much you can mess up
adb is new to me. this unrooted crap annoys me, compared to using my cap. So firing up cmd, running those two commands with the device in (recovery menu?), should pull the data files? now when I get a new phone back, I will be rooting hers, would I drop the data files back in?

Yea pretty much. It doesn't have to be in recovery but if you are make sure to mount the partitions.

I actually have this problem. It happened in the first month I got the phone. Someone on the forums recommended that I do a factory reset. But because I didn't root and I don't want to reinstall everything, so I just use the nexus s without vibration. The vibrate will fix itself once a month for a couple days and then die again so I dunno what it is. Please let me know how you fix it. Thanks!

[Q] Need help

I recently got this phone on cragslist, I rooted it and all but it always ask me to actavate service and i the only way I can stop it from asking me that is if I put the phone in airplane mode and reboot but the only problem with that is that is that I cant use home/search/menu buttons. XP it there anyway I can make it from stop doing that? I knew this phone has bad esn I just want to flash to boost. Thank you for your time.
The easiest way would be to flash 2.2 so you can turn mobile data off. But, that won't fix thevinderlying problem of the buttons goofing up. There is a button remapping tool. If you do a little research, and there is a post with instructions. That might help

You can try this, but I think you have to do it after every reboot.

Honestly, I'm curious as to why it's deactivating the softkey. I wouldn't think that its supposed to do that.

I dont know what I did but I made it work again thanks everyone. I just need to know if I can flash this to boost myself because i dont wanna pay some random guy to do it for me.
I'm sure you can, somehow. I've seen posts where people have done it before (not with our phone) I would suggest finding threads about it, and asking how on there.

Trying to recover my phone w/ broken screen

So my S4 took its last drop last night and I was trying to get my pics and music off. The phone shows up on my PC but since it is locked I can't access my data. Is this possible to recover the data before I toss the phone away? What about a usb to HDMI will that let me see the screen so that I might be able to unlock it? Any help would be much appreciated.
If you have a custom recovery or safestrap you might be able to pull it using adb in recovery.

I don't know if you want to try this before throwing it away, but I changed my wifes s3 screen for 7 bucks with a screen from amazon. Came with all the tools and checked how to on youtube. Took 45minutes but it was badly shattered. Just an idea.
If you have anyone that has the same phone just switch motherboards once you are done swap them again
