[Q] WLAN Hotspot Settings - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Can anyone help me, I use static IP addresses to connect to my mobile devices, as such I need to know the IP config of the WLAN Hotspot on the pdaimatejam ROM
It may be that they are the same for all WP7 ROM's but am unable to connect using static adresses at the moment.
Many thanks

Thanks for that I hve already tried and it failed, I also have a specific requirement to use static information hence the post.
I used to use my Touch HD in this way and the settigs were
Ip adress: 192.168.1.2
Subnet:255.255.255.0
Gateway:192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1 being the adress of the WLAN Hotspot ie Touch HD.
These settings do not work on the HD2 conecting to WP7 WLAN Hotspot so an looking for the config details so I can manually connect to them.

ok, to clarify: you want use hotspot on HD2 and want other to connect to HD2?
no manually settings... all is automatically... just turn ON WLAN hotspot on HD2 and other devices automatically must find him and connect, enter password and thats all
my Lumia 920 connect without problem to HD2 hotspot
if help this is IP address from HD2 hot spot:
IP: 192.168.33.2 (Lumia 920 IP)
default gateway: 192.168.33.1
dns: 192.168.33.1

No it is used as a wifi router for a couple of laptops which use static IP adresses, hence why I need the IP configuration of the HD2 with WLAN Hotspot.
I have tried on both laptops setting to autoipconfig and they dont work and also screws up their settings when used elsewhere.
All I need is the IP config details of WLAN Hotspot on WP7
Thank you

After much head scratching the solution is this:
If you set the IP setting to static in WLAN then these become your WLAN Hotspot settings as well...
Problem solved and phone now works properly with static IP connections.

A challenge for the Profs

I can`t go into the Web via T-Mobile after I went into the web via WLAN
My wlan configuration is as follows:
network: Broadcom 802 DHD etc...
IP: I must put it in
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Standardgateway 172.16.1.1
DNS 172.16.1.1
Only when I erase the configuration I can go into the Web via T-Mobile but then
I can`t go into the Web visa WLAN
Crazy
What I get is that there is a "DNS error" when I try to go into the web via T-Mobile....
Is the challenge to guess your Windows version, ROM and installed applictions, browsers etc?
There's a thread for Q&A's, this is ROM Development.
Windows version: WM 6.1
ROM: The original rom from HTC
browsers: opera and IE
Pls help me because all WLAN and T-Mobile codes seem to be right
Although you dind't specify anything about the ROM and OS version you have, I can tell you a little about the way IP addresses work and why you're not having internet.
Every computer on the internet has an IP address and that is used to identify it. However there are on a home network more than one computer, so you have a router that re-routes your internet through it's own range of IP addresses. Meaning you get an IP from your provider, which your router stores, and your router gives all computers in a network an IP address. This way every computer in your network can connect to the internet without the ISP having to give you more than one IP address.
Normally routers work with a technique called DHCP, dynamic host configuration protocol, which allows all computers in the network to communicate and share addresses. So without having to enter information manually a computer knows that the DNS is 172.16.1.1 (for example) and that it's IP is 172.16.1.*. If you disable this technique you must enter the information manually.
This isn't a problem until you need to connect to more than one network. Since every network has it's own set of IP ranges, it's own DNS, etc. So when you connected to your WiFi and manually entered information for your home network you disabled the ability to connect to T-Mobile yourself. Since the IP you get from T-Mobile isn't the same as you use in your WiFi network.
The other way around is the same, when you connect to T-Mobile your getting an IP address assigned automatically, howevery our WiFi network doesn't give you one automatically and thus resulting in no internet connection.
I hope that made sense to you, kept it as simple as possible. Also I hope you can fix the problem... normally you can do that by enabling DHCP in your router by logging in into the device. (You usually do this by entering the IP address of the default gateway into your webbbrowser.)

KilZone - thank you so much for your kind answer !!!
I do only have an access point no router ?
Is this possible too ?
I think the access point functions as a router too, not sure about that, but you can try by entering the default gateway into your browser and see where you end up.

Wi-Fi Static IP

I have DHCP enabled on my router but for some annoying reason my HD2 seems to want to pick the IP address 192.168.1.1 even though my router should be assigning IPs in the range 192.168.0.3 - 256. Please could someone tell me how I go about assigning a static IP to my HD2? I have gone through all the settings and have google searched but come up with nothing. The address it picks means that it will be incompatible with my network and cannot access the internet.
Is it the settings under Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Driver or Broadcom 802.11 Network Driver?
Thanks

I can't remember where you assign a static IP address, but I'll warn you against it.
I did this a while ago and found that wifi worked as normal, but I couldn't get a data connection any other way. It was trying to assign the static IP address even when not using wifi, and obviously my provider's network didn't like giving me a 192.168 address.
My suggestion would be to assign the IP address to the MAC address of your phone. I've got that setup on my home router cos someone was "using it" without my consent. It now has a list of valid MAC addresses (PS3, Xbox, Phone etc..) and assigns each specific IP address to a specific piece of hardware.
Did you manage to fix that problem? In that case, how? The same occurs for me but I don't know which IP the phone suggests, where can I see that?

I've done this oce using the Broadcom 802.11 DHD one.
You could also try to use a utility like vxUtil (albeit an old tool) or another one of your preference to check your IP config per adapter and try to ping stuff. This way you can easily check your config changes.

What's the difference between "Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter" and "Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter" ?
i would recommend using WifiProfiles, although i dont use it on my HD2, it worked perfectly on my TG01, Atom and Neo.
once again, like vxUtil (mentioned by erik.alphenaar), it is pretty old.
good luck, and please share your findings, i'm sure i'll run into the same problem soon.

Just stop WIFIROUTER application (service) on you HD2... When this app (service) is started then your phone acts like a router (routing Cellular data to WiFi) and your IP will always be 192.168.1.1 (i think) and phone DHCP serves other IP addresses to the clients that will be connected to him.

Wifi but no Internet

Since I bought the HD2 before 2 month and after 2 Rom upgrade I still have the same Wifi problem. I can connect to my home network and the Router can see the HD2 but I can not connect to the Internet through the Wifi. All other computers and PS3 connect just fine. Ip adress seems also ok.
Please help ?
I did have the same problem a while back, and it occured after I used the wifi router. Have you ever used that, even just to try it?
No I never tried the Wifi Router even once and changed rom twice.

Probably not the same issue then. For some reason I had it trying to give me a static IP address that my router wouldn't allow (I've got MAC forwarding on my router to make sure that nothing other than the 4 things I have can connect to it).
When you connect to the wifi, can you open the router admin on your HD2?
Thanks for your help. No I cannot access the router from the HD2, could it be a proxy issue. I am not using a proxy for the internet

No worries mate - I hope I can help!
It's not a proxy issue, if you're not using a proxy server. Could you try this and let me know how you get on?
Start your wifi connection
Go to all settings, connection, wifi, wireless networks, network adapters tab
Select the Broadcom DHD adapter
It should be set to use a server assigned IP address, not a static one. It probably is, but it's worth checking.
When I open Wifi settings I can only open advanced no wireless networks or network adapter tab. How do I get there ?

After you've started wifi, go to the settings tab, menu and all settings. Then carry on the instructions in the last post.
Found the all settings, the DHD adapter is set to server assigned. Any other ideas ?

Well i think we have the same problem.. If you try to connect your wireless, do you get the failure after pressing get IP: Cannot obtain serverassigned IP....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627654 my thread was this..
I found out that if i you go under WIFI>ADVANCED>press on the NETWORKCARD under the field "SSID"> then go to the networkcard>Broadcom 802.11 DHD network adapter>remove the pin in use serverassigned, and write a static ip: example: IP: 192.168.1.23
UNDERMASK: 255.255.255.0
STANDARDgateway: 192.168.1.1
That helped for me, though i cannot use that fix because my college wont accept the static IP. so it works for like 2 mins and then it disconnect. hehe.
Heh - that would be pretty much my next suggestion.
Try a static IP address and see if that works. It's not a long-term solution, but it would determine whether it's your phone or the router that's having the problem.
Last time I set a static IP address, I liked it and left it like that, but I found (after a couple of days with no internet access) that it tries to assign the same IP address when you use your data connection for internet access. Your service provider is very unlikely to allow you to use the same IP address, so you probably can't connect.
Like I said, it's a test to see if you can connect - not a solution.
Do you know what IP addresses your router will allow you to use? Do you have a specified range of addresses, for example?
I have this exact same problem. I can connect to wifi networks at home, office, etc... But no network access. It connects to the AP's, gives me an IP Address, but I can't ping anything!
This thing gets more and more frustrating daily.

It also happened to me. Turns out it was the router I was using. I bought a new one earlier today and problem solved!
Hi!
I got a d-link dgl-4300 router, and had problem getting a IP adr. from it. When I gave my HD2 a static IP it worked, but very slow. After I changed from DHD network adapter to NE 2000 compatible ethernet driver it get IP from router and I can browse internet through wifi fast. Maybe it can help u 2.

[Q] manual ip config

Hi guys,
i am brand new to android, and love it. i used win mob before.
but i have a question. i tried to set my ip adress manually to a specific adress so i can connect to a wireless router, which has no dhcp activated.
i can find the wireless network and can connect, but the dhd always says "optaining ip adress from server" but it cant because i set it manually?
does that mean i can connect to this router?
any ideas or thoughts?
btw: i edit my ip setting in the wirleless-settings -> advanced or is there any other way where i have to do it too? is there another connection method for non dhcp routers?

HD2 Android WiFi Problem - Experience Sharing

The strangest thing I have even experienced, and perhaps can save you time and headache.
** Summary (for those not wanting to read the whole story, but just the fix)
If your HD2 Android can connect to your home WiFi but cannot access Internet, check if your WiFi network uses a 192.168.20.x IP subnet address. The HD2 Android's USB port uses the same subnet, causing a conflict. If you change your home WiFi to use any other subnet, it will work fine.
** The Long Story
Been reading and admiring all the Android developments in XDA-Developers for some time, finally decided it was time to give it a try. Picked one of the more popular and stable MDJ Froyo (Desire HD) for SD and loved it.
Problem is couldn't use the Internet via WiFi from my home. Internet via GPRS works fine, Internet via USB/PC works fine, just not WiFi. The connection to WiFi is successful, picks up a DHCP IP address just fine, but no Internet.
Oh well, perhaps there is a WiFi bug in HD2 Android not reported so never mind.
Wait! On a business trip, when HD2 Android connecting to the hotel's WiFi, Internet works fine! Subsequently in many other places WiFi works also flawlessly.
Must be the WiFi router at home. Not too surprising as I don't use much wireless but wired all my other computers (including notebook PCs), it is faster anyways.
So went back and tested WiFi on a notebook PC (prior to that upgraded the WiFi router's firmware), PC connects and works, but HD2 Android still not. Tried all kinds of WiFi and encryption combination (BGN, BG, G only, WPA2, WPA, WEP), just nothing works for HD2 Android. >> Conclusion: not the WiFi router at home, just HD2 Android working with this particular WiFi router.
Finally (but forgot what app it was), I saw the USB port binding to 192.168.20.x subnet, exactly the same as my LAN subnet in the WiFi router.
Bingo, changed the LAN subnet to something else (really anything is fine because it is inside a NAT so not an issue getting out to the Internet) and HD2 Android works like a charm.
Hope this helps.
sorry, can you explain more where to change in the router settings? i can't find anything to change in my wireless settings
Look up the LAN (local area network setting) in your router, where the IP address for most WiFi router is set to use 192.168.0.1
In my case the WiFi router is set to use 192.168.20.1 (and DHCP to pass out 192.168.20.x IP addresses).
By changing the IP address of the router, most router automatically change the DHCP assignment to corresponding subnet, say from 192.168.20.1 to 192.168.x.1
x can be any of 0 to 255, just not 20 for my case or it causes conflict with HD2 Android.
Hi Dear friend , And Thanks for sharing experiences.
I have the same problem , but my router's setting is :
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
and my Starting IP Address : 192.168.1.100
IP Pool Count : 101
DHCP : Enabled
NAT : Enabled
Default Route : YES
but no webpage loaded , the weather not work . but the meebo messenger
with my yahoo ID just worked .
so how can i fix it ?
tnx
I notice the conflict (with my 192.168.2.x) when I checked the HD2 IP addresses (after connecting to the WiFi). When I see the USB port bound to 192.168.2.x I know the two just conflict with each other.
If something (meebo messenger?) works but not others... could it be your HD2 not getting name resolution (DNS ?). Say if you try opening this do you get the Google page:
http://74.125.153.104/
** This is Google's page without the need to resolve via DNS.

I have following problem : At my university i have hidden Wifi network, locked with password.. But, ofcourse, we cracked their password, and now we can use their WiFi.. But i cant use it.. On WM i could use it .. One more thing to mention, there is a proxy u need to setup before u can go on internet trough that Wifi network.. but thats not my concerne yet.. I cant get connected to that Wifi.. I make new conn, with password and other settings, and it keep saying : Connecting... Disconnected...
Any ideas to help me ?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem. I solved it by updating the radio to version 2.14.50.2. I think this version works best.
For me 2.15.50.14 works, too...
