Do you want to tell everyone your thoughts about your HTC One? Well, this is the place to do it. Any reviews which are posted in their own thread will be closed and copied into this thread instead.
As always, when posting in here all forum rules apply as well as the rules posted below
Moderator Notice
After having a discussion, we have decided to reopen this thread once again. To make sure this thread stays open this time around there are a couple of guidelines we expect you all to stick to.
*No off topic/irrelevant conversations
*No asking questions which could be found from a simple search OR better suited to a separate thread in the Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum
*No direct phone comparisons (just as set forth by the rules for our section). Comparing features such as camera/audio quality etc. is fine but no directly comparing the HTC One to the SGS5 for example
The above reasons were what caused this thread to be closed last time so hopefully it won't happen this time around.
I just loved the photos of the device itself
Ill be collecting the reviews as well in the mega thread, thanks
They are also complaining that the speakers are too loud lol
The camera photos look awesome as well

Dial a phone claiming the screen on the Z is better? ok now this is why I don't trust reviews, as this guy has to be having a laugh I have held both phones side by size and while I dont think the xz's screen is crap in anyway the HTC screen is superior.

I love both HTC and Sony but I am not biased to either OEM.
Not sure they are claiming the XZ screen is better, the way i took it is that when you first see the XZ there is a wow factor, but then after actually looking at it and using it, you come to realise that it isn't up to scratch. I reckon that's what he means by the "breathtaking impression"
Just my opinion though
A mate of mine was 100% set for the Z until he saw the HTC One now he all is over that like a rash!

I do wish people would quote accurately from reviews. What the dial-a-phone guy actually says is
The 4.7-inch super LCD 3 screen may not be as bright and dazzling as that of the Sony Xperia Z but still offers a clarity that is pretty much unmatched amongst mobile devices.
Click to collapse
"Bright and dazzling" could simply be a reference to maximum screen brightness, or it could be that he likes over-saturated colours and is a fan of the Xperia's Bravia processing.
I'm skeptical of that Dialaphone review. He says some of your apps may be "tucked away further then you'd like" because of the BlinkFeed stuff, which is completely incorrect. Just don't use BlinkFeed for God's sake. Set another default screen (which he says is possible) and never look at it again. I just cannot understand that argument or how he thinks the Xperia Z's screen is better when every other hands-on, preview, write up, etc about the One says that it has the best display. Same goes for the tinny speakers, that is the first I've heard of them being tinny.

After reading through the review and watching the video, the way he presents it definitely makes it sound like he thinks the Xperia Z's screen is better. He doesn't even reference viewing angles which should be a huge part of a screen review and we know the One outperforms the Z in that area. Plus, as a reviewer, he should make his opinion clearer. If he is insinuating that he only likes the Z's screen because it is brighter, he should say that or at least give a clear indication to what he prefers (in this case, I took it as the Z's).
And what he actually says about the speakers is
Those stereo speakers we mentioned earlier also increase the handset’s abilities, although their use is limited. The HTC One struggles to produce low frequencies and we don’t imagine these will ever truly replace headphones or external speakers.

That's perfectly fair: you shouldn't expect deep bass from speakers that size. (But he doesn't use the word "tinny").
He does in the video review.

Oh, okay.
i do find it interesting what each review says about the battery.
The fact neither give any sort of details like brightness and wifi on off, 4g on off etc..etc...
Benchmark seems very impressed while dialaphone seemed dissapointed that it wouldnt last a whole day,
yet mentions several hours of streaming music and heavy usage.
If the phone lasted pretty much whole day on that kind of usage i will be chuffed. Means the way i use my phone
i will get 2 days out of it easy. (or i might just change my habbits and keep wifi and full brightness on because i could )

I had zero problems with my Xperia Z display. As long as it's the same with the Z1, it doesn't bother me.

Sony, what are you thinking?!?! These [email protected] sceens are not comparable to others! And frankly, makes bad favor for a good device! Actually, at first, i didn't think viewing angles would be a problem, but it is quite annoying, to put the phone on table, and see nothing on the screen! Same situation is when try to show something to anyone, and he sees only the white curtain if not pointed straight eyes! Come on! I expected to correct this issue asap with next devices, and would be happy to give Sony my money, but now i am seriously consider switching brand for my next phone!

Well I dont really understand your point but anyways the z1 display is really looking good and the viewing angles which I don't really care about is way better than the z from videos showing it.

so its tn as opposed to IPS? my favorite is IPS LCD..what the hell is tn? I'm gonna be seriously disappointed if the display sucks, cause I love every other aspect of it. but a sh!t display could be a dealbreaker for me
Z1 display
I compared the display of Z1 against samsung s4... both looked same to my eyes... z. looked bulkier. but i think htc one screen was better.... Image does not have noise in low light

This looks fine and more than acceptable. It might not have as good a viewing angles as other phones but extreme viewing angles are useless anyway.
If the retail XZ1 does come with a screen which has these viewing angles then I think people will have very little to whine about.
Hey dudes,
I had to post it! I saw the HTC One max and I don't know what to think. I am impressed.
First idea was to sell my Z1 and buy the One Max which have 3300mha battery, microSD slot and 32gb internal storage. 1.7ghz quadcore processor, which will drain less your battery, finger scanner and more..
Most important, huge developing section, this is very important.
The only one thing stop me to choice HTC One Max over Z1, 5.9 inch screen FullHD! For me is to big but the hardware is impressive.
HTC One Max do not have a fantastic camera but I think still make a good pictures anyway.
I think is a huge challenge between this two.
What is your opinion?
Yes hardware very impressive but for me it's REALLY TOO BIG.....very good phablet anyway

SD800 in Z1 is more power efficient than SD600 used in HTC ONE MAX when running the same speed. but at their current speed 1.7 sd600 vs 2.3 sd800 they use the same power according to Qualcomm. So if you really care about battery, you can under-clock your Z1 to 1.7 and it will be more power efficient than HTC chip running the same speed. Don't forget that if you switched you will downgrade the GPU as well (from adreno 330 to 320 which will have an effect on the performance and game experience)
Additionally, I think that extra 300mha can't compensate for the extra 1 inch in the screen size.

regarding development, Z1 issue with unlocking the boatloader was just resolved by sony few weeks ago, its like the phone was released then because no-one was interested in developing or even flashing for the Z1. Therefore, the HTC ONE MAX had more time to develop for, which might change with time, though nothing is guaranteed.

Wait for follow up to htc one or any other in the 5-5.2 inch form factor.
IMO better wait for next flagships before jumping ship...
HTC one max is on early last years hardware architecture S600... it may not be that bad now, but 6 months down the road, you will feel quite left out...
3300 mah battery with 5.9 inch screen is not much different than 3000 mah with 5" screen, specially after the 4.3 update on Z1 which further increased our battery time 10-20%... doubt it will surpass battery life time of Z1
Finger scanner... LOL... trust me this is horse [email protected] more than half of all the Iphone 5s owners I know do not use this function... and trust me it will not work on HTC one max, you will most likely turn it off...
end of the day, like I always say, it is your money, what ever makes you happy is what matters...
If you want to go htc and don't want a huge pocket-ripping device then wait for the successor of the Htc one

I love my Z1, at the moment is back to Sony for repair the issue with touch screen and if I get back a fully working Z1 I don't really care to jump to HTC but the Max has something interesting, maybe if they will do same features but with a 5 inch screen or less I will go for it.
Or depending where you're based tried to get the Z1S (that Tmobile have) which is 32Gb onboard plus the micro SD slot, jammy sods.
I have to manage onboard memory, as I bought several large title games when I had the One X, which I didn't finish
The Bards Tale, GTA VC and Horn to name a few. I don't want to install all of these on my Z1 (which isn't rooted) as I'd be on low memory fairly soon

Because many users sent back the phone to Sony for the same problem and then they get the new device with the same problem again.
If the HTC ONE Max has the same processor as the HTC ONE, and i belive it has, i can only say, that it is NOT as quick as the Z1...
The feel you get from the Z1 is that it can do anything you can think of without any problem, the feel you get from the HTC ONE is that it is only just big enough to not bother you too mutch...
There are some nice things about the HTC ONE, my own is the Dual Sim version, and tha is really the only reason i bought it...
But to be hornest, the ONLY thing i think is better on the HTC ONE, is the two front speakers, and the Dual Sim...
All the other is Z1 leading by far...

I use the jolla phone from 8 months as my unique main device, and I LOVE it (I never swithc back to Android since there are the Jolla option); but there are some negative aspects: the camera is VERY poor, the screen is of the right size but it's quality and resolution isn't good for a end 2013 phone and the edges of the device it's a little too sharp.

Interesting... Since, on paper, the cameras on Jolla and N4 are in the same class it must be a software thing. Hope they are getting that sorted out. I mean, coming from Nokia they should be all over that camera with a quality software imaging package to match the lens.
Because the Jolla phone still isn't coming to the states yet, I'm betting on that N4 image. No camera yet. I guess we would get the CyanogenMod 10.1.3 camera???
I agree the Jolla needs a better screen resolution.
That one thing would be the touch latency/response time, at 46ms. This is astounding compared to the Note 3's 67ms and the iPhone 5s' 75ms.
If the S5 can come close, I'd be extremely surprised.
Touch latency makes a huge deal for the feel of a device, so it's great that HTC pulled this off!
What do you guys think of this?

Exactly. Touch latency is one big thing that keeps me on iOS. It makes the entire user experience SO much smoother, and it's even more noticeable when typing or navigating quickly.
I wonder if it's the same on the GPE though? That's my model of choice, but if it'll have more latency I wouldn't want to get one.
