Glass screen is not what I expected W/Pics

Not sure if its my phone and it needs to go back.
At the earpiece there is a flat spot that runs across and then another one just below it.
Seems like the process to get the curve threw them a little since its wavy all over but that is something you have to look for and can look past. The earpiece area is what I am most concerned with. Would like to know if others are seeing this.

would you be kind enough to post a picture?

Probably have to pull out the gear to do that but will be taking pics of the vibrant tomorrow so can do it then.
If you look at the speaker and then to the right and left of it there is a flat spot that runs through the glass from side to side if that makes sense.
Either way I will get pics up tomorrow.

It could be designed into the screen but there is another line under it and its not real pretty when the phone is sitting on a desk and you see that. Guess I am just used to the flat smooth screens like the other galaxy s phones.

Is it like, indented into the glass? Looks strange

Mine doesn't look like that. Mine is smooth throughout.

Ok I see it in the pics. That kinda stinks I thought Google said the design was to be the screen blending in to the phone. Bummer.

Going to the store tomorrow and checking out others. If it was a common issue I would just deal with it. Oh well.

It is. Its a flat spot and I can see why its there with the speaker hole there and the cam and prox sensors. Seems they could make a smooth transition or I got a dud.

Take it back and get a new one.

Seems like a hardware defect, I don't see that on mine.

I also noticed that on the first one I got, although not as defined. The issue I had was with the plastic ring around the screen. It was deformed in a few areas. I returned it for another one. This ones perfect. I suggest you do the same.

I have it too.. but not as bad as yours. I have to really use the glare to see it.

I have the same thing...cant notice unless it has light glare on it.
I think pics make it look worse but you can always return it.

Maybe it's flat cuz of the front camera and the light sensors.
I can't tell on mine, unless i have light reflecting on it (like in your pictures)

Thats what I am wondering. I had to use the light to get it in the pics. I deal with glass all day so see these things more then the average person. The bottom is nice and smooth . but the top is a different story. I wonder if others have this and just don't notice it. I hope not but maybe the pics will help others see what I am seeing and give a definite answer.
Either way I am going to go check out some others at BB tomorrow and will report back with what I find.
It may not be a issue at all and part of the design of the phone.

IMO major product design flaw

I think Samsung blew it on the design of the galaxy tab 10.1
There is a serious screen and stability problem with the tablet.
Whenever I pull it out of my bag I have the Newton rings.
I know that a lot of people believe it is weather related or humidity related.
My experience is that this is because the glass is too close to the digitizer.
What makes it worse it the fact that the case flexes so much due to the weak plastic on the back. Even the weight of the battery can cause these rings to appear by holding it upside down.
I don't believe that a screen replacement can fix this unless they reinforce or separate the distance between the two surfaces.
Has anyone with a repaired unit tested it by holding it upside down to see if they still get the rings? Mine go away but some don't. It is always reproducible though.

My Tab has none of the issues you're describing. Why not replace it under warranty.

and trust me, i know such discussions (display related flaws) far enough from my SGS2:
there is/was a problem with yellow tinting especially on the left side of the display, most people have it to some extent, some not. the ones with the flaw almost never believed the other guys that their displays were close to perfect...

No replacement under warranty.
You will receive refurb replacement. Cannot request new unit. Mine sent back diagnosed with bad mother board. No motherboard available in US, will not be for awhile. A long while was what i was told by repair facility. I do believe they are cannibalising units to refurbish.

Yet another complaint thread for a well-discussed problem. Mod, please delete.

I was a little nervous about some of the flaws I read before I purchased my tab. I seem to have none of the problems except the laggy text input on the browser. I inspected my tabfirst thing when i opened the box and discovered no visual problems on the screen.

The Newton rings can appear later on... there are people who got them after 5 weeks.
My belief is that they are frequent on the first batch... My screen is extremely rigid and darker than the ones shown in videos. You can hardly see the difference between the bezel area and the screen:

The picture was taken at an angle against my black monitor screen. In the lower right corner you see the color difference between the bezel and actual screen, taken against a white wall reflection. I press it fairly hard in several areas and did not have any issues.
I guess it was the trade to have an unlocked device.
I'd rather have a locked bootloader and a perfect screen...

apple stores would have swapped it before you can finish your sentence.
they replaced mine for minor lightbleed ...got a perfect one.

Weird scratches beneath the screen

DAMN IT!
Got some weird scratches/marks beneath the screen.
It's only visible in low light surroundings, and on a black background, but it's very very ugly.
When I made this thread a few similar posts came up.
Apparently it's a known problem on the S2 and note too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335423
I can't make a picture of it right now. Will try tomorrow.
Somebody made this to explain what it looks like.

Please check for yourself in a dark room and a fully black background on the phone. Do you have the same?
I'm going return it tomorrow, and hope they give me a refund, so I can buy another one straight away (and check it off course). And hope I don't have to wait for 3 weeks for the repair/replacement

If not then it's not scratches. I think its an AMOLED thing. I notice it when my SGS2 freezes on a black screen. But not there when powered down or back up again.

Exactly. When i first saw my sgs1 under direct sunlight i thught that was broken. Later i discovered that the lines ias seeing was the circuitry under the screen. You can see iy under direct sunlight when the screen is off.

I don't see any spots or ink marks on my GS2 at all. But seems like a lot of the GS3's are having these spots.
Some have exchanged their phones for those with a lot less of of those markings.

It's only there when the screen is on, but it's actually visible in daylight now I know it's there.

I read somewhere that this is a residual issue caused by the bonding glue they use t to attach the glass, they should fade as the glue dries, but keep any eye on it and nuke 'em if it doesn't!

Yeh galaxy nexus has a similar thing its the amoled display some of the pixals are not turning fully of, I think that was the conclusion .
But only noticeable in very dark room with the screen black and when your eyes adjust. Could be wrong without a pic I can't say.

I think its an inherent flaw with AMOLED panels. It looks like patches of the screen do not go as dark as the rest of the screen.
Some screens are brighter than others in general though, among the same phone. This Nexus was brighter than another one I had at the same time, at both lowest and highest settings, and had less black dots on black screen, presumably because the screen was brighter overall.
Doesn't mean to say I won't check for the problem before I purchase though

This one is flawless
I'm glad I bought it in a physical store now vs online!

Yep I have the exact same thing with my SIII but not as bad as yours. What did you do about your SIII? Did you return it? I notice it mostly on a black background whilst watching films/videos mine isn't really that noticeable on my SIII but still pretty annoying.

Advice on purchasing the Nexus 7

Hi guys,
I plan to purchase this week a Nexus 7 16GB. Based on the reads, the device could have 2 issues: screen lifting and dead pixels. Can you please let me know if the screen lifting was visible when you actually opened the box or it started to pop after a while? I plan to go at local shop and open the case in front of the salesman, to check for those issues.
If you have any other tips I should check for, please let me know (i.e look for a specific build number etc.). Thanks.

That's a little unnecessary in my opinion. Yeah some people had that problem but it was a small percentage and opening it on front of them isn't going to change anything other than the fact that you can return it faster if something IS wrong with it. But I'm guaranteeing there won't be anything wrong with it

Ya... the idea is to save time and exchange it right away, in case I'm "lucky" to get one device that might have issues.

I was nervous too. I bought one today and it turned out perfect. I believe you would be able to see the lifting almost immediately .

I didn't notice the separation in my first unit for a week. I think it got worse over time, but can't be sure.
My second and third units were more subtle, but because I knew what to look for I was able to spot it straight away. I think that if you get one that's flush out of the box you should be alright.
Go in with some idea about how much lift you're willing to tolerate. If it is only lifted a hair, turn it on and press firmly on the left side of the display to see if there's any distortion. Listen for any sticking or clicking sounds. I'm not convinced that the most insignificant amount of lift will inevitably lead to problems down the road, and in hindsight my second unit was good enough to keep. The third was lifted enough to ripple when pressed in the raised area.
The most effective way to test for screen lift is to hold the device with the right side facing you. Look across the display and use the left bezel as a silver horizon line. If the black display is higher than that line at any point, you'll be able to see it.
Here is an example of a perfectly flush display, looking across the device from the right side.

I did more research, might help others on checking the tablet. So far, the main issues that will bother me are:
1) Screen lifting, follow pxlitup's tip or run your finger across the edge where it meets the silver bezel.
2) Blur or trailing, while viewing the Applications screen see if the icons lag or leave a trail behind when you flip through.
3) Color gamut, mainly Green or Yellow tint due to low quality Hydis IPS LCD displays.
4) Bad solder joint, set the brightness to the lowest to second lowest level, open Google Maps and scroll around to see if the display fluctuates or flickers.
I think I'm going to wait for the new Sharp IPS LCD display, they plan to use it into next batches. If anyone has any inside related to the Sharp screens, please share it with us. Thank you.

Who are you to guarantee that? I've gotten five defective Nexus 7s in a row...so far... It's not that small of a percentage dude. You were just lucky to get a good one haha.

Screen malfunction

I was browsing the web and I started getting this lines going vertically down the screen when I was scrolling now they fade in and out with my live wallpaper. Has anyone experienced this? Going to contact Google obviously

I had similar lines on boot up once happened once though.

Screen banding. Possibly could be fixed in certain ROMs, but definitely an issue you should get it replaced for.

Had this first time today ....if it won't happen again not an issue ... My galaxy nexus when battery was dying screen was going off like an EMP just hit it ... Not worried yet ...

Well yeah, if you're going to be a **** about it no one is going to go to your thread.

And I wouldn't exactly link dead pixels and this banding together.

I have this same issue on my N4....not as bad as yours but under certain conditions vertical banding is observable (generally when at 100% brightness). Having it replaced this week.

I don't think that is banding. Banding is whole a other thing. Very common on Panasonic plasmas and some LCD TV's. Those seem to be GPU going whack lines. Or possibly some bad interference and it showing up as that. But if I had to put money on it I would guess broker or going bad adreno 320's.

Just noticed something like this on my screen. It's very (very) faint and only shows up against gray backgrounds but the pattern is pretty similar. If it gets worse I'm going to contact Google.

I'll be contacting google soon, only have my phone on me and I'm on Tmobile's web exclusive plan so only have 100 minutes to talk and I'm not spending them on a 30 min hold. I'll update everyone on the situation.

I had something similar. I turned on the phone and it was just a black screen, and those lines started showing up. Turned the phone off/on and it hasn't done it since. But now I got red pixels that show up by the notification and navigation bars. They disappear once I touch the screen. It doesn't happen allot so I'm not sure if I want to return it

Replacement is being shipped, should take 3-5 days from what I was told.

I had this same issue last week. Except my left top corner was really bright. It persisted after reboot. Hasn't happened since.

I too had the same problem with my nexus 4 but i dropped it from a foot height.The display suddenly got blurred and these vertical lines started to appear.can anyone tell me Whether LG accepts this under warranty or I have to pay for it?
